  • This motor belongs to a friend of my dad's. it was brought to me in good running condition just needing a new water pump impeller installed. I replaced the impeller and got it out for a lake test before returning it to the owner.

I have 15 h.p. version of this Merc. It’s a great runner as well.

I'm sure the 15 is a strong runner, I was pretty impressed by this 9.9. Thanks for watching!

Yes, very good. I was fairly impressed with the performance of this motor. Quite strong for a 9.9. Thanks for watching!

20 MPH on that boat, with a couple extra gallons of ballast in as well I see. Nice motor.

Yes, this is a very nice running and impressively strong 9.9. It has been well taken care of and everything works exactly as it should. Really nice little motor. Thanks for watching!

I have a 1997 version of this motor, got it with a boat I picked up a few years back, it's the only non OMC I have but I learned to like it once I got used to the tiller shift.

They're nice little motors. Really strong runners and a very decent and quiet idle. I have the '86 25hp with the tiller grip shift. It is one of the few Mercs I run with any regularity. It is a fun motor with lots of power. I just don't find the tiller angle (straight) to be nearly as comfortable to run as the angled OMC tillers. Thanks for watching!

    That is a nice runner!
    It surprised me!

Very nice runner. I was pretty impressed with it. The tiller grip shift is kind of unnecessary and I don't really like not having independent control of the throttle setting from the gear shift, but it works OK. My '86 25hp has the same setup. Thanks for watching!

You did a great job on all 3 motors. The owners should be pleased. This wasn't the best summer with the heat and rain. Take care.

Thank you. These motors all turned out great. The two OMCs are the only ones that really got tuned up, but they were all fun to run. There have been better summers, but I got some boating in this year at least. Hopefully next year will be a little nicer with less wildfire smoke and wind. Thanks for watching!

The "old" merc is quiet and strong for sure. That all in one shift/throttle set up is kind of cool also

Yes, it sure is. That's a nice strong running motor and it's a great idler as well. The integrated throttle and shift control onnthe tiller is kind of neat. Makes a great setup for using a tiller extension. I just miss the separate throttle control for starting. There is the option to turn up the idle on this one that my '86 25hp doesn't have, but it only does so much. If you flood one of these, getting it started can be a frustrating endeavor. Other than that they're really nice runners. I prefer the ergonomics of the angled tiller on a classic OMC, but these are not terrible. Thanks for watching!

Wow that runs well! Was it retuned to a 15? went and sounds very like my 2001 15

It is a great runner. It's in very nice condition. It is still a factory stock 9.9. Thanks for watching, Bill!

I seen one for sale at a garage sale for 200.00. Looked just like that one but it was to big for my 12’ John Boat.

If I found one of these for $200 in any decent condition I would snap it up in a second. I'd run this motor on a 12 foot jon boat any day, although I can understand that being sketchy in the handling department if you're not used to tillers on little boats. I had a 12 foot cartooper with a 9.8 Merc that was a scary ride when I was new to driving a boat. Thanks for watching!

Wow 20 with a 9.9😆 amazing! What do you need 300hp for?

I was pretty impressed with this 9.9. 300hp is good for 55mph on a Tri-toon, I guess. LOL.
      Thanks for watching!
