The thing about Joey was his sense of composition, push and pull, his suspense and how he just mixed it up, so many break-downs and various phases, there was something so compositionally exciting about Joey that went beyond his speed and technique that made him so unique. There are 15 year olds on youtube who are faster than Joey but I dont hear many drummers do what Joey did. This is what Slipknot I believe are looking for, that sense of excitement.
I agree. I absolutely love the creativity and composition of Joey. From not being a drummer first (or preferable, whatever) to then writing some of the best drum parts of the entire metal scene is incredible.
For instance, this is the reason my favorite drummer is Matt Greiner from August Burns Red. I'm amazed by every song they release mostly because of his drumming.

The other thing I dont hear get mentioned is HOW MUCH HARDER it is to be considered a great metal drummer now. Hell, 10 years ago even on youtube the market for really great drummers there were like 5. Now theres thousands, if you think about 1999??? Shiieet Joey was probably a God comparatively.

Have you ever actually heard extreme metal? Like technical death metal, technical deathcore, melodic death metal, etc.? Slipknot are soft in comparison. I grew up on SK and they will always have a special place in my heart, but check out band like Fleshgod Apocalypse and tell me that Slipknot is brutal.

Eloy it's IN! Sad for that.... Sepultura it's on farewell tour.... that was a painful hit... but... I understand Eloy's motivation.

I saw Eloy when he was 15…he was on a drum clinic tour in America. He wasn’t really doing metal but this kid was better than 95% of drummers hope to be in the height of their careers
Frankly non metal drummers can just put in a little work, and become one of the best metal drummers while the reverse is far less likely, and much harder to do
@@MassholeDrumsI can defintely agree with that! Especially when it comes to gospel and fusion drummers. Speed and technicality are fundamental to those genres, so it's a relatively natural transition. Eloy had this 4 or 5 pedal set up and the limb independence he had so young was incredible - it's been awesome seeing him grow even more over the years

That really would be an awesome fit. I'm a guitarist myself and not big into the whole Slipknot style. Same with Sepultura BUT back in their early days I jammed on them often. The percussion was the main reason. That stuff hits different. I love the "tribal" influence.
Yea me myself loved sepultura back when max and Iggor was with sepultura.the chaos AD and roots album had a lot of tribal influences in them

Leaving sepultura like that right before a giant farewell tour has to have some giant $$ implications. Hes got to be joining huge band that is helping pay those "buy out clause". That all said; "fortune favors the brave"

Eloy is ascending, before Sepultura he played with André Matos (ex-Angra, Shaman vocals), just when was a teenager he studied with Aquiles Priester, he lived for the drums since your childhood, he deserves to keep growing more and more, probably the decision of the end of sepultura has changed so many thoughts for him, and today i think: "He maded the right decision"

Love the song. I will be listening for sure. There are many legendary drummers out there, you are crazy awesome, and a legend in the making. I’ve performed with tons of drummers and you are uncanny. I’m the last video you mentioned drummers to check out, some of the best drummers I’ve played with or seen were Dave Cosgrove from Alien Ant Farm, I know I know, prob a weird one, but this is one of those guys that when he’s playing he’s not even there, he’s effortless. Obviously Danny Carey, Charlie Benante, and John Tempesta. I know you’ve prob heard of those guys but those are some of the drummers that are wow factor. You are wow factor. I look forward to your videos, watch at least a couple a day even if I’ve seen them before. You are awesome. Have a great rest of your day!!

A Sepultura farewell tour NEEDED Eloy. He became the core of the band for over a decade. He revigorized those guys.

If Eloy joins Slipknot, not only will he elevate that band, but he may be the man that raises metal back to its former glory. His attitude is amazing and his ability shows most Americans something they could have never expected. Much of the South in the US has only caught glimpses of this level.

I think you are right. What is you take on Greyson Nekrutman, for 20 yrs old he is quite talented. I heard a cpl of Sepultura with him playing live and was quite impressed he was solid. Especially since he is a phenomenal jazz drummer.

You might want to watch some of Greyson's work with Drumeo before you sound like a know-it-all. He may be a kid, but that kid is a f*cking prodigy.
Greyson is insane too, it's just about giving him some time to adapt.

I'm good with Eloy's decision. Hope he goes to Slipknot, would elevate their level 10fold. I loved him in Sepultura too and as much as I wanted to watch him with Sepultura this Tour, Greyson is an amazing drummer and I'm sure he won't disapoint. I'm watching Sepultura this saturday!

Well they just played a small show and the BIGHOUSE was blasting the kit.
I was on a tour called "THRASHFEST CLASSICS" back in 2011. The lineup was Exodus, Sepultura, Destruction, Heathen and Mortal Sin (my band). It was 40 shows across Europe in 40 days.
That was a very young Eloy's first tour with Sepultura and he was relatively unknown in the metal world.
Even then he had old veterans like myself, Tom Hunting and Nick Barker standing behind his kit with our jaws on the floor. He was a monster even at that young age.
To see him now in the juggernaut that is Slipknot is amazing to me and they could not have made a better decision.

I think you're right about Eloy and he will do a masterclass on the drums in Slipknot. On the other hand, saying he is the best metaldrummer and does stuff nobody else can... I can't agree on that haha. For example I think that Kevin Paradis is probably the most allround (extreme) metaldrummer out there.
