  • In this video we look at an alternate approach to creating some electric effects in Blender still using the addon ivy generator as our starting point, but unlike in the previous electric fx tutorial we will convert the curves into a mesh and work from there.

      @RIOTGEAR3D  3 года назад +3

      Nice, I abuse that one too. Extra tip, instead of using a noise modifier, you could 'bake sound to fcurves' basically generating your curves from a soundfile to animate your effect to some sound

    for those making 3d loops animating an empty should always one on 0-360 (or 720 or any full circle value) and for interesting variety you can set empty to follow a path of a bezier circle and animating an offset to 0-100 for an endless loop
    Also thanks for the tutorial this is so much easier than other lightning tuts

    Hey at 6:21 what are the key binds or buttons you use to save them into the keys? Also kind of new to blender so how would I select each branch like you did?

    • @RIOTGEAR3D
      @RIOTGEAR3D  Год назад +2

      To save the shapes into the keys, in object mode create the shape key then enter into edit mode and make the changes you wish, when you go back into object mode the changes will be recorded into the shapekey.
      Remember the first shapekey records the default shape.
      To select the whole length of a branch, you can select one vertex and hit ctrl+L, or just hover over your preferred branch and hit L to select all linked vertices.

    I can’t seem to find a way to export these bolts out of blender while keeping the glow / emission / bloom. I try rendering a PNG sequence with a transparent background and the glow is gone. If I have a solid background, the glow is back. Not sure why this is.

    • @RIOTGEAR3D
      @RIOTGEAR3D  3 года назад

      Could be the glow is there but just not very visible on a transparent background. Try adding a solid background in compositing

    • @bananaboy1100
      @bananaboy1100 3 года назад

      @@RIOTGEAR3D My workaround since I made my post is this: The Eevee engine in blender doesn't render emissions on transparent background. Why? I don't know. Cycles maybe would work but I didn't see anything that says it would. So I rendered with a black background and in AE blended it with "screen". If I pre-composed the bolt onto the footage in blender, this method works pretty well If I'm not 3D tracking (which is a whole other can of worms I'm still figuring out.) Anyways that's where I'm at with that.

    This is a bit of a weird question but 6:17 how do you rotate the branches and how did you select the vertices of the branch without selecting the whole thing

    • @RIOTGEAR3D
      @RIOTGEAR3D  Год назад +1

      Hover over your preferred branch and hit L to select all vertices linked to the target vertex.

    • @RIOTGEAR3D
      @RIOTGEAR3D  Год назад +1

      To rotate them, I set the pivot point to 3d cursor and place the 3d cursor at the point of branching, I can then rotate the selected branch around the root of the branch... I hope that made sense
