How to Electricity in Blender 2.9

- In this video we look at an alternate approach to creating some electric effects in Blender still using the addon ivy generator as our starting point, but unlike in the previous electric fx tutorial we will convert the curves into a mesh and work from there.

That’s so smart to use ivy gen
Briliant use of the tools in blender! Thanks for the tutorial!!
I always pick up something new from your videos!
what did you pick up in this one?
Animating the multiple shape keys procedurally is something that's going into my toolbox
Nice, I abuse that one too. Extra tip, instead of using a noise modifier, you could 'bake sound to fcurves' basically generating your curves from a soundfile to animate your effect to some sound
Damn... You are my go to channel when it comes to FX!
Thank you. Love this tutorial!!
each time i thought it was done, you kept improving it lol. amazing video, helped a lot thx.
LOVE it, thank you. I'm gonna do this, this is great.
Great effect..using the Ivy generator is brilliant
Deserves more views, thank you!
for those making 3d loops animating an empty should always one on 0-360 (or 720 or any full circle value) and for interesting variety you can set empty to follow a path of a bezier circle and animating an offset to 0-100 for an endless loop
Also thanks for the tutorial this is so much easier than other lightning tuts
Very handy tips! Thanks for watching!
this is so awesome!
amazing, love this
Thank you, I'll be using your technique in my LEGO Trailer
This looks absolutely amazing! Very much looking forward to learning the technique and applying it to my project... perfect 👌💯👀🎥😎🌟
Id love to see it when its done.
@@RIOTGEAR3D Do you have an account on Motion Array as I have a subscription on there and the later models of the scarecrows etc. were excellent!
I don't have an account there unfortunately
great, thank you for sharing
Dude are you for real, That intro was awesome man. Your tutorial are really good man.. keep up with your awesome tutorial man. 👍🏼
Thanks, will do!
@@RIOTGEAR3D is a pleasure. Thank you for responding back. You will man.
Nice vid. really helpful
happy to help
This is amazing, but I have to much to do so I bought your FX pack which is just amazing.
Glad you love it, I'll try and pack that kind of usefulness into future products
Been waiting for this!
looks like you're charged up!
@@RIOTGEAR3D oh yeah for sure!
@@RIOTGEAR3D also I made a car morphing VFX shot on my Channel following your tutorial if you could say something about it it would be great 😄
Thank you
i love this
Brilliant
thanks for sharing, so it is much better to control,
had tried with geometrynodes but it gets too messy, your approach gives more control how it should look.
2005 called, they want their youtube intro back xD useful video tho! and really impressive transitions! Thank you
I wasn't old enough to be on RUclips back then, I'm afraid history will have to repeat itself 😂
noma sana brathe
Can you help me or send your blender's link
im not able to find the generator option in the animation area...when i open animation the graph editor doesn't open but i have to manually bring it through the drop sheet drop bar which im guessing is messing things up?
You need to have a key frames set on the value you are animating, the options will then appear
Is there any possible way to do both the growing animation you can get with curve AND the displacement modifier from the mesh?
I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get the best of both worlds, but unfortunately it's a tradeoff game
This could be fixed if somehow curves were updated to support the displacement modifier!
Brilliant man! Which country are you from? Asking as i am looking for 1 on 1 lessons and we may be in the same time zone. I am in South Africa. Hit me up if you can do real time lessons and let me know your fee.
Hey at 6:21 what are the key binds or buttons you use to save them into the keys? Also kind of new to blender so how would I select each branch like you did?
To save the shapes into the keys, in object mode create the shape key then enter into edit mode and make the changes you wish, when you go back into object mode the changes will be recorded into the shapekey.
Remember the first shapekey records the default shape.
To select the whole length of a branch, you can select one vertex and hit ctrl+L, or just hover over your preferred branch and hit L to select all linked vertices.
@@RIOTGEAR3D you are amazing thank you so much I love your videos and tutorials! 👍🏻
@@oditty thank you, I'm going to keep them coming
@6:16 How do you select the individual ray of lightning? tried ALT-SHIFT, but that didn't work. This would help tremedously. Thank you!
Just hover on one vertex and hit L, it will select all vertices connected to it.
Or you could select one vertex and hit ctrl+L
I can’t seem to find a way to export these bolts out of blender while keeping the glow / emission / bloom. I try rendering a PNG sequence with a transparent background and the glow is gone. If I have a solid background, the glow is back. Not sure why this is.
Could be the glow is there but just not very visible on a transparent background. Try adding a solid background in compositing
@@RIOTGEAR3D My workaround since I made my post is this: The Eevee engine in blender doesn't render emissions on transparent background. Why? I don't know. Cycles maybe would work but I didn't see anything that says it would. So I rendered with a black background and in AE blended it with "screen". If I pre-composed the bolt onto the footage in blender, this method works pretty well If I'm not 3D tracking (which is a whole other can of worms I'm still figuring out.) Anyways that's where I'm at with that.
where can i get the lightning sound effect?
those used here were sounds sampled from a falling tree, but a good place to get sounds is splice.
This is a bit of a weird question but 6:17 how do you rotate the branches and how did you select the vertices of the branch without selecting the whole thing
Hover over your preferred branch and hit L to select all vertices linked to the target vertex.
To rotate them, I set the pivot point to 3d cursor and place the 3d cursor at the point of branching, I can then rotate the selected branch around the root of the branch... I hope that made sense
@@RIOTGEAR3D I think I understand what you mean by that and thank you
yo help me i'm tryna figure out how you got the ivy generator to just appear there im trying to add it to text is that possible?
You may have to convert your text to a mesh before you can do that
@@RIOTGEAR3D oh yeah I figured it
why did u timelapse this its so hard to see what your doing
i am not able to get that add-on
Just search 'ivy generator' it should be available in all builds, even experimental ones. What version are you using?
sry i dont understand what addon to enable - thx
Ivy generator
@@RIOTGEAR3D thx
I can,t find ivy generator in my blender 2.93
You'll have to enable it in the addons
@@RIOTGEAR3D how I can solve this problem
I am totally beginner in blender plz help me
There is no option of 'create'
Thanks for helping me .
Spending lots of time in blender then finally I found that option
I would like if you went a little slower, you're going very fast. I'm not new to blender, I am to this particular field, however.
I think his speed was perfect, the cool thing about youtube is you can always rewind if you miss something.
@@MintyMeta I still understood the video, and had high-level results, it's just the speed, man.
