Three years ago I rigged up a teleprompter for Zoom calls / Skype interviews, specifically so I could see the person I was talking to while also looking directly into the camera, and at the time I searched RUclips to see if anyone else had been using the same setup, and I found literally only ONE video, and the guy was just as excited as I was to have thought of the idea. It is a game changer for interviews and calls. I almost wish Elgado didn't make this, cuz now everyone is going to be doing it!
I got the Glide Gear TMP100 on Amazon and use SpaceDesk on an old Android phone. Since SpaceDesk makes that Android phone a wireless monitor for my PC I just run the Teleprompter Pro and control it with a mouse.
Elgato always coming in to change the game!! I’ve been working with a workaround setup that does all the same but with like 5 cables lol I also vote for a bigger one - actual monitor size would be dope!
I use a teleprompter outside a lot and having a SUPER bright screen would be the best feature for me, so hard to read off the mirror outside in sunlight, any prompter will work in a dimly lit studio like yours. Larry
Love the Freudian slip in the video info "Elgato PROMOTER". Seriously, I'm planning to redo my home office and I will plan some space for this. The Prompter-XL would absolutely change the world of web meetings.
First, thank you for your work. Always neat and straight to the point. Second, this gadget happens to solve a lot of my problems with recording scripted videos and the chat idea is AWESOME! I hate when I read the chat and I have to remember to look at the camera for engaging. Thank you so much Senpai!
The use of an external monitor (also big ones) as the base of a teleprompter is not a new idea. That’s basically how many teleprompters work in TV production. What elgato has done is make it much smaller, more affordable, and convenient in an all-in-one solution for prosumers. This whole setup can be done DIY, but the bigger you go, the more you run into bulkiness, weight, cable, and light issues.
This sounds awesome. On a full scale display teleprompter… you might have get less perception of eye-contact because the speaker would potentially have to move their head and eyes further from edge to edge.
After a great many hair-tearing sessions trying to figure out how facecam RUclipsrs (and later streamers) looked seemingly into the camera while gaming or so-close-as-makes-little-difference. And even considered trying to build my own rudimentary solution with one-way glass and a projector years back. Yes, please, a "Monitor" that just lets us look "at" the camera would be incredible. Especially with advent of things like ghostchat letting you keep chat and such on screen without being captured for output to audience
This looks great! But how's the software? You didn't mention if it has standard features like auto-timing to your voice, things like that. User friendly?
Saw the tweet from Elgato this morning and instantly ordered it. I do a lot of UGC work on TikTok, so this is a gamechanger for me. This video of yours just made me even more happy about ordering this.
Considering I spent about $200 on my glide gear teleprompter and it honestly is falling apart already after barely any consistent use, this is a really interesting product, at a very attractive price point for what it is...
HAHAHAHAHAH I laughed so loud in the end when you mention the full size monitor because that was what I was thinking from the first minute of the video! I felt like you read my mind 😂
I've been looking to build something like this for myself, for Zoom/Teams calls. I've been looking into 10"-12" teleprompter stands and thin HDMI monitors that would fit it. Everyone who takes their Zoom calls seriously, seriously needs something like this or the setup I described.
I havint been streaming for a while. But I can say this sounds and looks like a game changer! Feel like this is a good step in the right direction of creativity. Great video Harris!
Thats really cool. I've been taping a piece of paper with my typed script. What is that awesome video of the earth and underwater scene on the big screen?
Your take on it being "Apple enough" is exactly right. There are millions upon millions of people working remotely, and WAY more that are very regularly taking on Zoom calls, even if they're in the office. Literally every single one of them is a potential customer for this. Sadly, I hesitated when I first saw this, and now I'm just waiting for it to be available. GREAT video, BTW.
the problem with doing a big monitor for the prompter is that your eyes are not going to be centered if you are reading stuff. Maybe with AI that can be fixed
I love it! I've made various DIY teleprompters in the past, but they're never quite up to par and they also require one of my devices like my phone or tablet. Definitely not clean enough for a streaming setup. The fact that this works as an external monitor is amazing! But does it take one of the video outputs from my graphics card? I assume it does. I can work with that. Adding it to my Christmas list.
What a sick mind game. when we click on the are subjected to lawyers. Who pretend that they're out of stock to look like they are important and that they're selling
My first thought when watching this was using it for twitch chat, but Im not sure how many viewers would be unnerved with someone staring right at them on a live stream while talking to them.
while watching this i kept thinking about why not take regular cheap monitor and put it like the elegato and plug it into computer and resize the window and to match the teleprompter screen and figure out a way to attach it - and make it stationary or mobile on a tripod or modify a 4 wheel tool holder or what ever works for you and make it temporary or permanent if for studio use - anyway thats some machinations that your video provoked in my inventors mind
I’ve been on the fence about this prompter, especially since I use the Elgato Ring Light as my camera mount. Mounting this on my lens would not work with the light, so I was wondering if I could mount my Sony cam on the bracket and use the prompter as ghe actual mount on the Ring Light. Seems like you answered that question for me. Now I definitely need to get one 😁
A full-sized monitor/prompter would be killer! It would go a long way toward making Zoom calls seem like person interaction; attendees would all be looking directly at each other. 👍 How do we get Elgato to make a PrompterXL????
Or if you're doing something like Just Chatting stream you can read chat and look at the camera without needing another/separate monitor just for chat or discord
@senpai I agree what if they made an XL version, but not just an XL version but a wide angle vertical model as well. Or at least the screen can rotate to a vertical position. 🤙🏻
I think this looks like a top tier teleprompter. And since I was already in the market for a teleprompter, I'll probably buy one. But I still can't figure out why anyone else would. The "Zoom meeting" argument Harris made is the only one I find remotely intriguing, but at nearly $300, it's nowhere near intriguing enough. I think if you need a teleprompter, buy this teleprompter. If you don't need a teleprompter, don't buy this one...at least yet. Maybe by the next generation someone will have figured out a good use case to make it necessary.
The moment I saw this my immediate thought was: what if you used the Prompter as a Zoom/Google Meet display so your eye line is always perfect on your camera feed An XL model would be absolutely perfect for this usecase
For those of us whose eye sight maybe isn't a great as yours, this might be to small? I like your larger promter idea. Of course the price would also be larger :)
This is really cool for even reading chat on a stream, but I noticed when you were reading your eyes didn't look "natural" as you can tell you were reading and scanning the lines left to right. Maybe if there was less words on each sentence to squish it narrorer it would be better?
People may also want to reconsider using zoom, there are better options out there that don't have such terrible policies around your privacy and data. I'm sure the only reason they backtracked on using your calls to train AI was because of backlash(and maybe some laws in certain countries....if any are quick enough to have made any decent laws already).
😂I too have for years wanted a full size monitor screen with a camera embedded somehow in the center, but how would I put my black tape over it when I want some privacy.😮 Great review for something that gives my Glide Gear 100 a lot of competition. Thanks, Harris!
They should have made it HMDI, not usb. Would have worked way better with people like me who could have used it connected directly to the camera without a computer for client works
I'm guessing it was 3 separate clips... One where Harris introduced the product, one of a zoomout of the prompter (while it displayed the first clip) and then one panning to the side where Harris has the prompter in front of him. That's just my guess :)
As a podcaster, I use a teleprompter for making the connection feel more real for the guest and viewer. They are also amazing for making ads and other content in one take which I love as a busy dad and husband who doesn't have hours to make a single piece of content. I'm super pumped for this!
Have you entered to win $25 and started getting free highlights and compilations from Sizzle.gg here, yet? ► bit.ly/SenpaiSizzlegg
Look at you, becoming an artiste with the dramatic opening! Can't wait to see where your journey in production values takes you.
don't think the link is working, just redirects to the Sizzle homepage
I have entered another time, when there was no chance to win the $ 25 and feel a bit cheated now :D
Also, I wish it had some more not shooter games ^^
Can we just appreciate how beautiful and well crafted that whole intro sequence was 👌🙏
Getting it perfect took like 5 hours 🫠
@@Senpai it was worth it! Fantastic end result!

dude yes! omg that was fantastic
It was very MKBHD-esque and it was awesome!

Shouldn't you be happy that Elgato is doing it so that everyone can use it?
... kind of a shitty attitude foreal
What monitor did you use? Can it flip the screen so I'm not looking in the reverse?
Elgato always coming in to change the game!! I’ve been working with a workaround setup that does all the same but with like 5 cables lol

The opening shot where it’s zooming out to show the teleprompter and then you turn your camera to also show you by the teleprompter broke my brain 🤯
This sounds awesome. On a full scale display teleprompter… you might have get less perception of eye-contact because the speaker would potentially have to move their head and eyes further from edge to edge.
I wish it was not on back order until February- we ordered ours! Thank you for your great review.
This looks sick! Appreciate the quick video on it!

Am so amazed of how talented and creative you are the first section of this video is absolutely amazing. The cuts the scene is amazing.
Love your videos Harris, you have become a benchmark for me when it comes to new streaming equipment and advice ❤.
Almost certainly will add this to my setup sometime in the next couple of months.
Ordered one this morning. Excited for it! I've been waiting for something like this to try tackling my on-screen voice work
"It's going to get very parasocial in here" had me DYING.
I wouldn't mind having the eye-to-eye in meetings.

Scenarios using zoom and chat are really cool cases
Yes yes yes. XXL Prompter! a full size screen with a camera behind ❤❤❤

Elgato's #1 marketing resource, Harris Heller, has done it again. Adding to cart now...
Seems like a fantastic product, will definitely add it to my wishlist.
This is actually an incredible product, great examples. I'm sold.
That first shot with the tracking was cleaaaaaan.
So that’s what that was at TwitchCon Paris, I almost forgot about it by this time
Well... Imaging having a job interview over zoom call for instance. AI + this teleprompter + Linkedin profile full of fake experience = CEO
Killer if you use it with the Stream Deck Foot Pedal. Now your hands are completely free.
Your take on it being "Apple enough" is exactly right. There are millions upon millions of people working remotely, and WAY more that are very regularly taking on Zoom calls, even if they're in the office. Literally every single one of them is a potential customer for this.

Great video, Harris! I also feel a need to look directly to the face during Zoom calls.

Simple setup and use Teleprompter is GOLD.
This thing is so good and so useful...So many use cases and well thought thru.

6:35 Thought I was watching The Office for a moment.
I wish it had an HDMI input. I don't see myself running a feed through a computer when I just want to record a video.
I now want a 27" screen in my table and a teleprompter that shows it. And I do not even stream or do video calls.
My first thought when watching this was using it for twitch chat, but Im not sure how many viewers would be unnerved with someone staring right at them on a live stream while talking to them.
It is a great tool to have, i think i have something that will be one of my many goals to get in the coming time
Harris loves shotgun mics and it shows. 😁
Prompter XXL would be game changing if it could be a primary monitor for streamers
Things you didn’t know you needed.
In BACKORDER until Dec 2023 LMAO
Thanks for the video. I have often thought of getting a teleprompter. I study Japanese too.
It just works. Finally, a product for ONE things that solves most of our problems! Elgato is amazing.
I wish it had voice recognition to auto-move the text like other telepropmpter apps.

Watch Elgato do exactly what he said regarding the bigger prompter 😂
Problem is it's not digital nomad friendly. You can't transport it easily in a backpack with your computer.
Idk why but never really thought of a teleprompter as something a content creator might need. Makes sense though.
That's pretty convenient, that's a little more badass than the average "holy shit i want one"...... great video, 🤘😎🤙
This would be great for ad reads for podcasters! No more looking down at their notes!
Well take my money Elgato....
Love this! I wonder if it will work well with PTZ webcams like Insta360 Link or Obsbot Tiny 2.
Adding my vote for the Prompter XL. I've been looking for a full screen size teleprompter option for quite some time now! 😀
I’ve been on the fence about this prompter, especially since I use the Elgato Ring Light as my camera mount. Finally got mines, alongside the Facecam Mk2 and stream deck mini

Prompter looks cool AF, but one question... When using it with a phone is landscape the only way you can use it? Or can it do portrait as well?
How do you record the sound with that camera? I use DJI Mic 2... Or do I have to have a second file and then try and get them to match?
at nearly the price of a Facecam Pro, it is a tall order to justify for any small creator.
They should have made it HMDI, not usb. Would have worked way better with people like me who could have used it connected directly to the camera without a computer for client works
your favorite emoji
Love it and i think all of us who streams needs one to be honest😀
This is epic.
Yes, I want Camera+Monitor
I have a big teleprompter which will take a tablet, and this looks very promising will it be smaller then what I have got.
This thing looks awesome- I can't afford it and don't have enough space for it, but I would definitely use it if I had it!
Can't wait for this to be available! 😎
And great idea with a Prompter XL, will buy that in an instant!
I'm not sold on a Prompter XL because if you are not looking at the center of the (large) Prompter than you lose "eye contact".
I can only imagine how hard that first shot was to do. Just want to leave a note that I respect that you took the time to do it. Really impressive!
I'm guessing it was 3 separate clips... One where Harris introduced the product, one of a zoomout of the prompter (while it displayed the first clip) and then one panning to the side where Harris has the prompter in front of him. That's just my guess :)
💯
Quite easy. That's what makes it even more impressing and great handicraft. It's just three clips and dissolve transitions.
They have my attention. Definitely will shortlist when they get a 12-inch+ model released as that would be far more useful generally, IMO.
amazing video, can’t wait to get one of these
I use a 19" PrompterPeople one and swapped out the screen for a high bright Lilliput monitor. Its a full size monitor at this point.
I need the full monitor version. Like seriously. It’s a great idea! Please Elgato
@@travisminneapolis That's great idea. What exact Lilliput monitor are you using?
