I bit the bullet on this one today because I absolutely loathe recording dialogue due to always having look back and forth at my script. I was hesitant because of the price, but the massive overload of positive reviews of this thing made me took the plunge. It comes next week, I hope I'm not disappointed. By the way, for only 176 subscribers, your quality is insane! Subbed for sure! Small creators unite!
Hello, my friend. I never tested the Elgato Promoter and I don't have one. But you made me curious about it with the new update. It's a little bit expensive for a prompter but having the dedicated display justifies the price. I will consider testing it in the future. Thank you!
Thank you my friend, you are welcome! Maybe the downside with the voice sync for you is that your audio needs to be connected to the computer for the software to recognize the mic, but I think it works really well. I record all my videos straight to my mac with OBS and camlink so I just choose camlink as the audio source in the elgato camera hub. Yeah the video quality is a little bit worse than sd card on camera, but it is easier and faster for me :)
Hi Tommy how did you fix the Mac getting disconnected issue? Also Mac OS do not work with Elgato camera hub as it is not finding the product. I also have issue on the light from the Elgato screen that reflects light to my camera. I haven’t really been able to use this without problem. Thanks for nice video!
Hey Winnie! I havent had a lot of problens with the prompter disconnecting. I leave it connected all the time. But if ive had some problems, i have just restarted camera hub. What mac are you using? I have a mac mini m2 pro. Everything is working on mac os. What comes to the light reflection, i just turn the brightness down on the prompter, from camerahub :)
Thank you! Happy you liked it. Lately ive been mainly using the sony zv-1f camera for my videos. I can attach it with the universal shroud backplate. BUT I also have used the prompter with the sony zv-e10, both with the kit lens and sigma 16mm f1.4. Works fine with all three in my opinion.
Hey Erik. I do have a video about the voice sync if you want to check it out: ruclips.net/video/nUKpJFCV7e4/видео.htmlsi=ir50IS8ojK4hfHV6 BUT to answer your question, yes. The voice sync saved the prompter. I would probably have sold it otherwise. Mac mini m2 pro. Works like a charm for me!
I’ve enjoyed the Elgato Prompter but I have found it takes a bit of testing to get everything right. So far the voice sync performs poorly for me. It will work well for a paragraph or two and then lag before catching back up, essentially rendering it useless. I’m hopeful that future updates will remedy this.
That is interesting! The problem is exactly what I have experienced, but not with voice sync, only the regular autoscroll. That was unusable for me. The start of the script had the perfect scroll speed, then at some point it started to behave like 10% speed. Even if it would be at 100% in the camera hub. By no means a perfect product (I dont know if that even exists) but with the voice sync working perfectly atm in my setup, it is perfect for me. But overall it need some updates to make everything work as intended.
Yes it does! I have used it a lot with the sony zve10. If you use other than the kit lens then you can attach the camera to your tripod and the prompter straight to the lens. But with the kit lens you just use the included mount to attach your camera to to the prompter itself. Then you put the prompter on the tripod. I have switched to a cheaper camera (zv-e10 --> zv-1f) lately and it doesn't have changeable lenses but i attach it to the prompter and it works great too!
Hi, Great and informative video! Im currently having elgato prompter and using it with mirrorless camera. I mount the prompter directly to the lense. I have no issue when recording in landscape (horizontal), the prompter cannot be seen in the frame. But Im having a problem when i use the camera in portrait mode (vertical), the prompter appear in my recording frame. My current lense is sony e 15mm f1.4. Can you please advice on how to solve this? Thanks and will appreciate your guidance.
Thanks! I also used to mount the prompter directly to the lens when I used Sony ZV10, but now i use zv-1f and it cant be mounted like that. Thats one thing I miss. I have never tried to use the prompter for vertical videos. But I think your lens might be too wide for the prompter for vertical videos. I have tried the prompter with gopro12 and even on linear mode which is least wide option the prompter is in the frame. Heres how i fixed it. I zoomed in in the edit until the prompter was not in the frame. I think you could try and zoom in a little bit until the prompter is not in the frame anymore on dslr and see how it looks, or in the edit but it depends on how much of the prompter is seen in the frame. If that doesnt work i think the only solution would be to record without prompter or changing the lens, unfortunately.
Hi Brandon. I just leave it on, since it is usb powered so whenever my computer is on sleep mode or off, the prompter is off also. Sometimes I use the displaylink software (that i had to install on my mac) to shut the prompter off if I dont want to have it on while my computer is on. Hope this helps!
Nice video - I've gone through 3 different teleprompters over the last few years and have finally settled on a good solution (for me, at least). I use the GlideGear TMP100 prompter. It's about $200. Then I added a dedicated tablet to it - just a cheap 10" Android tablet that was about $70. Lastly, I use 'PromptSmart Pro' software for about $30/year. The end result works brilliantly, and listens to your voice and tracks it while you speak. I have a small wireless remote that can scroll around, pause, and play. And another remote for starting/stopping recording of the camera. And yes, $300 is a lot, but worth it if you're doing professional videos. When I have additional talent on set, they appreciate it as well.
Thanks Bill! Yeah, theres alot of prompters out there and I think everyone will find whats the best solution for them. There aint one thats best for everyone. I will check out the glidegear online. For me the elgato is everything I wanted a prompter to be. Minus the problems ive encounterd. Unfortunately it is not perfect, but with all the updates it is good enough. I use the streamdeck to start stop recording now since the voicesync. Its not working to record on to the camera, just to computer via obs.
@@TommyEmEl I haven't, it wasn't out at the time, but seems like a solid setup. I have a bunch of other elgato gear (green screen, webcam, etc) and I've been happy with them.
Ive been thinking of a green screen. I am not sure I need it though. I just ordered one pack of the elgato wave acoustic panels in blue. Should arrive next week. I need some acoustic treatment, and I thought they looked cool. Im not sponsored by them, would be nice of course, I think they have great stuff.
Why are you thinking about a prompter? Are you looking in to elgato or something else?
Let me know, I’m interested in hearing about it!
