THanks for the great tips. I like the X idea. I might just do a dot of some kind so as not to lose so much screen. But I use the Prompter a lot more for video and not meetings. In defense of the Camera Hub app, the killer feature for me is being able to control the transparency of the prompter text. That way I can put my Ecamm preview on the screen and still read my script. I did have trouble with reading too far into the corners the first couple times I used it, but I pulled the margins in and that seemed to help. I wish the app had a line you could use to keep your reading place like some teleprompter apps do.
True. The same way camera hub can overlay the text on any background using the opacity fairly easily. I guessed the video was made before that latest updates
You are one of the more creative people using this prompter, and it appears you are teaching me more. I'm using MAC, and I want to make sure this will work well for me. I only have my iPhone SE2 right now and I dont have a mirrorless or smaller camera. Eventually, I will get a PTZ camera. What do you suggest?
First Elgato has the beta 1.9 beta camera hub out that works pretty good! The only thing is the scrolling will change speed on its own. I’ll set it where I want it then while recording but it will usually slow down on its own. Also, I use the Elgato Pedal to control my prompter. I sit back a bit from my desk while recording so I can’t use the mouse or keyboard. However I’m not sure if the pedal will work with other software…But as I said, the beta camera hub does work quite well especially when pasting in scripts! It recognizes spaces between sections now. So you can just copy and paste your script in and not have to paste each section one at a time.
Hey Meredith, wanted to say thank you so much for your two videos. One on the other teleprompter you had done and another talking about getting the Elgato prompter. It pushed me over the edge and pick it up. I've used it for the first time on my latest video and it's totally changed my workflow - which is brilliant. I would always follow a point form script and fill in the details on video. Ugh, so I had a lot of editing time after. Now, I write my whole script and just add small things on the fly. It's helped to streamline my video and also reduce my editing time significantly. So, thank you very, very much.
Hello Meredith, will the prompter stay stable on the lens if I manually adjust the focus with a remote control and I use the ring adapter? I have a Canon with a fixed 50 mm lens. Thank you
Hello, thanks for the tips. However i’m facing an issue with my Elgato Teleprompter setup when trying to use it with Skype. I can move Skype into the teleprompter’s display mode, but once it’s there, I’m unable to interact with the main Skype screen. I can open the menu bar options, but nothing in the main area (like chat or calls) is responsive. Plus, I can’t drag Skype back to my main screen afterward. Any advice or similar experiences? I’d really appreciate any help or suggestions!
I bought mine and it's been giving me a little trouble, first was launching the display and now since yesterday, it's displaying the prompter horizontal,so its reading my scripts from right to left instead of normal vertical.
This is excellent information and your style is very good. I have 2 questions for you. Do you think that we will soon see a big brother to the Prompter? My last question is I use large monitors (over 43 inches) I can't lower them, do you think the Prompter will help me with that. Thanks in advance for your help.
Are there Smartphone fittings with the teleprompter so vertical recordings can be done whilst using the elgato prompter?... I want to make content for Social Media... b roll / reels etc. I cant see any demos with this option anywhere. Is there a solution for that you can suggest if there isnt .
Oh good question. I think that little platform where you mount your camera or phone can be lowered enough to accommodate a vertical placement of your phone.
Love the content - just wanted to make one side note Elgato Prompter beta version does allow you to create a center point for the lens and allows you to move it around screen and have that marker spot be software base you no to mess with the screen. absolutely love the engineering on your part though - well done! 🎉
Awesome tips, that I haven't seen elsewhere. The most recent version of Camera Hub software, lets you add a custom center point. It also works much better in a Mac now. I'd also add. If you have the Mac dock on the right, don't arrange the prompter on the right (in Mac Screen settings), otherwise the dock will appear on the Prompter. Also the new Camera Hub software, has margin options, to reduce the width of the text.
Is the teleprompter software playing at a speed or is it controlled with a voice synch ? I heard that elgato had voice synch , I'm just curious as I'm about to use notion for all of my files
Great idea creating a second screen extended from your desktop into the Elgato display to bring in your text from Notion. This is brilliant. (some other creators complained about the Hub software, so using an alternative makes sense.) I am also looking at Notion for developing scripting ideas. I have created about six short RUclips videos for a client, however just starting my own RUclips journey so all these tips you offer are great. I wrote a book on photography (after being one for 20 years), so I decided to break down my chapters into YT videos. I like your 3x4 method, and will be producing videos soon. Thanks for your help. The best thing about Elgato is its small size with included screen and easy to setup with camera for recording at your desk.
I wanted to use the teleprompter and record vertically on my smartphone for social mediacontent too. Is this possible or must I add another attachment for the phone or use a different camera altogether ?
Great tips. Very useful info, as usual. I think Elgato was watching! My new Prompter just arrived with a soft dust cloth the exact size of the screen to place over the screen when not using it.
A very good video. But I've got a challenge no one has taken on. I need help with a big problem. I have the Elgato Prompter, Facecam Pro4K60fps, the Elgato Streamdeck plus and I cannot find a way to be able to read from the prompter or even access it from either Zoom or StreamYard. I have the Wavelink software and the camera hub installed, but nothing helps and I cannot find any RUclips videos that tell me how to put this all together and make it work. Thanks in advance.
@@meredithmarsh I had two conversations with them today and since I don't have an Nvidia graphics card, I can't use Elgato's background noise eliminator. My video looked like junk and it was as if I had an AC unit blowing, which I didn't. I'm beyond frustrated and disappointed.
@@meredithmarsh I have had two extensive conversations with them. I get much better quality videos using Zoom than I do with OBS, which is poorly setup. Thanks for your response, I really appreciate it.
I love your videos, but I have to take issue with the dust tip. The camera doesn't look through the screen. It looks through the mirror. It would not matter that the mirror is reflecting dust particles. It just results in less light on the mirror. You might see the dust, but the camera wouldn't. Think about it this way... You can put a quarter on the display and the camera would not see it. Why would it see dust?
I thought there was a way to blend the script with your camera feed so you can see both at the same time, I'm shocked this is not an option. I got everything setup and was bummed it's not possible
Hi. Did you see that Elgato added a camera overlay for your screen to see where the lens is? Now you can dispose of your little "post-it note" X. You can choose a camera, crosshair or snap icons. You can even add your own, so if you miss your yellow X too much, maybe you can even put it back digitally by adding your own yellow X .svg file. 🤣
OK, so I cannot speak for the Mac version, but the PC version has a couple of features that your system doesn't provide. Most notably, the text of your script can have a translucent background, so you can see the image (say your "comfort cam" with the text superimposed.... Also, I was REALLY confused by your comments about dust. Dust on the screen may affect the image you see when using the teleprompter, but it will have zero effect on the camera image, since it isn't between you and the camera... Other than that - great video!
Every single tip you offered is available in camera hub, without all of the hacking. I bought mine 5 months ago and it already has all of these features. Maybe you bought it much longer ago? Maybe time to try out the elgato software again.
@meredithmarsh I figured. Maybe they heard you!!There are issues I'd love to have resolved. Text formatting! Bold, italics, indents etc. It's annoying. But, overall, it's been a total game changer. If you know of an app that does all of this, please share!
🎉 I could not agree more about the Camera Hub App. Incredibly clunky, very hard to understand and set up, and I never had the confidence that it wouldn’t melt down while in use. After a lot of frustration, my Elgato Prompter is now up for sale on eBay, hopefully passed on to someone who does not get as easily frustrated. That said, I think the prompter setup itself, camera mount, mirror and monitor are top notch. They await matching software. Also, I just think that the difficulty in getting everything setup just right, made me reevaluate my “need” for a prompter - and it really just isn’t there. That’s something people should really consider before purchase. It’s not only a financial investment, but a learning curve and time commitment, as well.
This is the first video of yours that I have seen, and I already love you for your take on dust.

Keep in mind that Prompter does have crosshair capabilities. You didn't have to tape the X on the screen.

Didn't the new software update add an X function? I'm still waiting for my promoter to be delivered to try it.
Yes, the beta version of camera hub has that ability - but likely only works if you’re using the software.
