The teleprompter is a love/hate relationship... after basically giving up trying to allocate a designated tablet for my set up (and all that goes along) i did a DIY version with my Atomos focus screen, which works great and all, but basically Elgato made one cheaper than my diy version and seem 10x better while being 3x times larger. I see you have an Elgato review... off to that video next, I am a telebeliever! (new sub here in case you can't tell)

Wow Meredith fantastic video makes it all seem so simple. I wish I had it when I set up mine a year ago. Anyway I am now settled and am using Teleorompterpad software and have added a remote. After a lot of tweaking as you said, I am managing my videos satisfactorily. Yes I still need to polish my skills a little more. What software are you using with the elgato? I am interested to use it. Thanks
Thank you 🙏 with the Elgato, I don’t need any extra software. Elgato has their own software for putting in your script, or you can just use it as an extra monitor for zoom or a browser window with your notes!
so u need an ipad/tablet, the teleprompter, and a camera? or can u use a phone instead of tablet/ or phone instead of camera to record?

You would need mirror the image on the display to work with the teleprompter
Love this set up and thinking about buying this but can I use something other than a camera? I really don't want to have to learn how to use another thing as I am just beginning. I've tried so many web cams and they don't seem to be as clear as my Mac. Can you recommend something for a beginner to use with this teleprompter
You can use a webcam or phone as long as you can mount it like a camera

Thank you Meredith for a great review, I was thinking about getting the NEEWER Teleprompter X14 PRO with RT-110 Remote & APP Control. But was wondering if the glass from the teleprompter with decrease the qualify of my videos? any help would be appreciated
If the glass is at the right angle, it doesn’t change the quality of your video. With the elgato prompter though (I did another video on that one) I found I have to keep the monitor dark (as few colors and white as possible) or else it casts a hue on the video quality

Great demo on teleprompters! Instead of an ipad or tablet in the front tray of prompter, I found I could use a 15 inch (diagonal measurement) USB thin HD monitor in the prompter tray (lots available on Amazon) connected by USB C to my laptop (no extra adapter needed to power the thin monitor) to duplicate the window of my laptop, as I use a Windows laptop. However I have a 16 inch teleprompter as this 15 inch HD monitor actual height is 9 inch so this fits into front flat tray on prompter.
There are also 12 inch thin HD USB-C monitors available (same thickness as a tablet). However this may require Neewers 14 inch Teleprompter to fit this HD USB monitor (similar design as 12 inch Neewer prompter).
Although, I agree that most content creators use ipads or tablets in the prompter front tray or phones with apps.

I checked Neewer on Amazon and they do carry a 14 inch Teleprompter (same design as 12 inch version) that would fit an 11.6 inch (diagonal size) HD USB-C thin monitor (which has 7 inch height x 11 inch wide). This monitor is as thin as a tablet and can be connected to laptop by usb-c and the screen duplicated and reflected on prompter mirror. So it works.
Can I use my I phone 13 and my I pad 12inches for this teleprompter? Do I need to buy another device?

Thanks so much Meredith, so so helpful! (I wasn't sure I wanted a teleprompter so I built a DIY just to try it out first, for like 15 bucks and I am so glad I did!) So now I have a fancy one ordered.
Also, your setup is totally great, but I have a question: when you use the duet app to and push up your notes etc, how do you get it mirrored? Is there a setting to do it automatically or do you do it manually. Just very curious...

Is there a telemprompter that can be used with an iphone as the camera and still maintaining eye contact?

I happily stumbled across your channel a few days ago and found this video. I am back because I wanted to see what software you used to make your iPad a second monitor. I was quite disappointed to see they Duet charges a monthly fee. I think I'd rather get the new Elgato teleprompter and pay my flat price up front and not have to worry about those surprise monthly fees billed annually. I am curious, do you think your set up work with a field monitor??

Hey, nice video. I use the x14. The neweer app does everything the teleprompter app does, and it’s better because the remote works. You can adjust the text and the margins in the neewer app.
I found the neewer app the be extremely limited but maybe it’s been updated since I last tried it

Hi Meredith - you're right about binge-worthy content because here I am watching all your videos 🤣 I already have this teleprompter and the same app you are using so I'm feeling validated haha, but... I'm using it on a tripod and would rather have a desk mount to save space and setup time. Knowing how HEAVY it is, have you had any problems with the weight? I'm super nervous about this thing sitting over my Mac with my ipad pro attached and I'm wanting to upgrade my camera to one of the ones you suggest - which will be heavier than my current one. All that weight on a desk mount is giving me the heebie jeebies! Since I have this teleprompter already, I'm not looking to get the Elgato one.
Haha 😛❤️ BINGE-AWAY!! 😍 I did worry about weight of the tripod too, and so mine was always resting on my monitor when the iPad was on it. I switched to the elgato promoter now which, after using it a bunch, doesn’t worry me weight wise at all.

Is there a scrolling app for the pc? I use a webcam so I’d rather just read off the screen but not have people see my eyes wander across the screen..

I want to setup a teleprompter in a church setting. Currently we use a 19 inch monitor for me to see my content I would like to get that into a teleprompter. Any ideas? Will be standing behind a stand. I would like to setup Picture in Picture.

Thanks for the great video! One of the BEST I've seen showing your setup. Is there a free option to share your screen from the computer to the iPad? Looks like there is a cost involved with Duet Air. Also, I would love to see your methods for creating RUclips videos using only non-subscription and some free services that newbies like me could use to get started. Everything seems to have a subscription cost these days and I find I am constantly searching for the free options. Can't wait to see more of your videos!
How did you get the Duet app to invert the image on the ipad? It looks inverted on my end and the text is backwards... can't read it. can't figure out how to invert that. doh!! also, why didn't you just use apple's built-in settings to mirror a monitor onto your ipad?
There is a setting in the duet app to make everything go the correct way for the teleprompter. The built in mirror monitor settings don’t for teleprompter unless they updated it recently

I can't find the setting anywhere on Duet to flip my screen, so it's still upside down. I've searched everywhere... have a Pro account too. Duet support says they have "teleprompter mode" but I can't find that anywhere either.@@meredithmarsh

Probably!
I like a teleprompter. But the position is sometimes challenging. If you position your camera higher than your monitor screen it is already high. A teleprompter raises it even further. In your setup I feel it is too high, you are really looking up at the camera very noticeably.
I get it. After this video, I got a new monitor stand that sits lower to make it work for the angle I was really going for. It's a tricky thing but it gives me a good reason to sit up straight :)

Since your camera is above you monitor and you are looking up, what is your thoughts on using a green screen at this angle?
I’ve never used a green screen so I’m not really sure. I have since re-arranged things a bit so my camera is no longer right above my monitor. Check out my elgato prompter video to see!
Thank you for the reply! I own the Neweer one already. I don’t really want to spend more to buy the ELGATO, as nice as it is. The Neweer is heavy but I have a large tripod that will hold it. My main concern is the tripod is not able to go on my desk so it will be farther away from me than I would like. I have never used it.

why use duet ? why not use sidecar for apple?
Because the image has to be reversed and sidecar doesn’t do that
For me it is more interesting to use it with Teams. So you can have eye contact. 🤔

I think your iPad can be a second monitor with out the duet app. I think it’s called sidecar.
It can, but it can’t be a teleprompter with sidecar. It needs to be upside down and mirrored.
Newer Apple Silicon Macs can control iPad with no additional software, using Universal Control! Don’t pay for Duet if you don’t have to.
Does it flip the iPad so it’s mirrored? The teleprompter glass reflects the iPad so it has to be mirrored.
