i bought the Elgato telepromter, and one of the thing i hate the most when buying anything, regardless of price is that it doesn't work the way it's supposed to. Elgato is absolute trash. I will never buy anything from them again.
This is by far the best DIY teleprompter tutorial I’ve found on RUclips, it looks really easy to make and the finished product seems pretty solid! I am definitely doing it! Thanks guys!

I swear, 24 hours ago, it hit me that I could use a cheap photo frame glass to make one of these. The black binder was a brilliant bonus. Would like to see the footage recorded by the camera through that glass though. If it's not anti-reflective, and that glass isn't low-refraction, I feel like there might be some ghosting?
Great project! Just a note: the current version of Apple Pages on the iPad has something called "Presenter Mode" that does the scrolling automatically.
James Eaton yes it’s working. I only need someone who is holding the button... or do you perhaps have a suggestion for that too?🤞 Grateful that you share this, time saver and money saver.🙏
@@PhiloKralen Touch the aA icon then set the scrolling speed touch the text to go back there touch the text to start scrolling touch the text to stop touch the text to start again I'm going to check today to see whether a bluetooth clicker will start and stop it. Oh man..... Thanks. I just finished recording 4 short videos. rigged my tablet by duct taping it on the wall behind my camera. Used MS word and a mouse to scroll.... What a pain. There is a reason you have the script roll Infront of the camera.... Live and learn everyday THANK YOU.... I love this.
I totally agree! That is why I am watching your video today. I know more about sewing alterations and repairs than most sewers, but as soon as I look into a camera, even my name eludes me.......not really but you get the idea.
Hi! Just needed to drop by and say I made this today and it works beauuuutifully. Thank you so so much. My channel will benefit a ton. Love from Jamaica!
I just wanted to comment to say I used this video and made one!!! I did it for a project and stuck it on something taller and used my laptop as the camera! I also just left the binding one because I was not strong enough to take it off and it works fine leaving it on also! But it worked really well! The app they used you have to pay for now but there is a parrot app that is similar when you look up the same thing that works the same way!
This was the best direct set of instructions. I made it and added bumpers to the side to keep the tablet from sliding off. I used unsharpen #2 pencils wrapped in black duck tape. COOL STUFF!
OMG this video was so useful. although it actually cost me $9 to make, I can't believe how well it worked! I wish i could do more than just like and subscribe
Great video. No one seems to talk about this problem. Brain freeze on cue. I was wondering how many videographers are using teleprompters just like any TV personalities. You answered this question elegantly.
Sam.....just wanted to say: You have an incredible head of hair. You may not realize it because you have always had it....but it's incredible. The 'red' may be a cross you have to bear but, believe me, it is well worth it. Lucky you.
This is awesome! Thanks a lot! Yes, if I were to record videos of me talking on a daily as part of my business, I’d likely invest in a “professional” setup for the sake of having it all as a set. For the couple times a year I do feel like recording a personal video just for the fun of it, this DIY solution is awesome! Thanks! :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial. It was exactly what I needed at a price point in my budget! My local Dollar Tree was out of everything - but even at Walmart, it came in under $10. The hardest part was finding a glass picture frame, there's SO much plastic out there. I ended up grabbing black duct tape though, the electrical tape would shrink and release, The duct tape holds much better.
I don't get it. So the "picture" goes through the glass with the letters running on it. And you don't see the letters on the video...? I wish they actually showed it on camera how it works in practice...
@@thehappyhippie3826 I've used it, so I can tell you how it works. With the glass bent forward slightly, you place your tablet with teleprompter app underneath. Then, you place your camera behind the glass and cover the back of the teleprompter and camera with a dark sheet. The glass reflects the screen, and the sheet allows your camera to record without any of the words getting in the way.
Take a look at PromptSmart Pro for iPad. It uses voice recognition to move the text. Also, I made one that I thought was budget, but it cost me like $30. Of course it is on a rails system and uses a latch to hold open the picture frame from the glass, but it's essentially the same. Here's a tip. Use a black t-shirt for the fabric. Put the bottom around the teleprompter glass and the head hole around the lens.
Oh wow! I'll have to look into that voice recognition! A black TShirt would work well! We thought about that too! But just kinda used what we had laying around
@@samdezao I just found a 3D printed one (that builds off of DSLR camera rig rails, too). Since I just got a 3D printer, that's something else I'll be trying.
I can’t wait to try this. I get lost and fumble too when trying to look at the camera and speak. Thank you. Awesome. I also love that it’s not expensive to make.
I seriously do too! I'm getting better though! With time! I'm about to post a video about being confident on camera! Hope that is helpful to you as well Kimberly!!
Made this today! Even had all the material around the house and saved a trip to dollar tree. Thank you and Mina Studio both for this budget friendly solution! Awesome!!!
I did this too with a picture frame, but I added a hinge and so used the "inside" of the frame as the iPad rest, fitted with a screw to an old camera tripod. I like your approach - it's even cheaper than mine :).
I just watched and made one. Thank you SO Much! The only issue I ran into was when I cut the binder, there was no loose vinyl to put the glass in but no worries - I just taped it up good all around and it's fine! Thank you!!
And even that, in a certain sense can be simplified further. Thanks for the video I actually happened to have the perfect sized 8 1/2 X 12 picture frame with a glass frame and I used the black backdrop as the bottom of the binder. Works great, you saved me $150 bucks today!@!
Hey Sam, could you reveal a link or brand name for that solid-looking monopod you are using to hold the camera? I could not find it in your kit-list. Was it RONIN...? How to google that thing? Cheers bud.

I tried to build a teleprompter a few years ago to much failure. This method is much cheaper than what I tried. Thankfully I still had the picture frame glass from the first failure. It initially had the same issue that my first attempt did, the text was way too dim (a problem I also have), I bumped the brightness up, and it's very easy to read now! I figured I couldn't get such results without buying beam split glass. I just spent a lot of money on the iPad, and I figured I'd have to wait a while to buy even a cheap teleprompter. I had to separate the vinyl from the cardboard because I bought the cheapest one I could find at Wal Mart. Apparently I shopped at too high end of a store, because the vinyl was adhered to the cardboard. But my X-ACTO Knife fixed this quickly. I'm sure it had been mentioned already, but I love to use the app called Prompt Smart. It's $20 for the pro version which will mirror the text, but both the pro and free version uses speech to text technology to always move the text as you speak, which is awesome. Though of course, it doesn't always work. My reason for a teleprompter is I always have to record multiple takes, then I forget if I said a certain point in that attempted recording, or if it was the previous one. I found even an outline didn't help for the same reason, I'd skip around and lose track!
