The knowledge that I gained from this tutorial has been invaluable to me, and I have been able to apply it to my work in so many ways. Man! Im glad you mention about getting lenses. There are youtubers that recommend buying lenses!! Which is insane because iphone 13 and others have 3 LENSES THAT HAVE TONS OF OPTIONS AND SETTINGS!!
I've always advocated using a recorder when tethering might be an issue. The best suggestion I can give when doing so is to have the recorder and camera next to each other and clap your hands loudly. This will produce a spike on both soundtracks, allowing for better synchronization.
Props to you for recording the whole thing on your phone! Truly showing us how it's done as I watched the whole thing. Quality content is quality content - esp with the tips you gave. Thanks 😉
13:38. If you're on Android you can mirror to almost any smart watch excluding apple and any other computer, tablet or smart tv, excluding Apple. If you don't want to deal with wireless you could simply use USB-C to HDMI and hook up to any monitor or TV. Any feature apple has android has had for 3-5 years, apple just doesn't introduce it until they've found a way to monetize it.
As much as I love Android devices, not all have usb to HDMI out. I just suggest people verify that function is an option before trying to shoot something serious. I've seen people not prepare and then have this assumption bite them come shoot time. Know your gear folks!

You mentioned in here that you could stream your phone camera to your computer or iWatch but said there was nothing for Android phones. Step 5: there are great wireless options that are a lot cheaper. Comica Vimo or Ulanzi are just two, for example. Ulanzi is about 50, the Comica for USB is about 100, for the iPhone about 20 more. I have the Comica because it has on-board gain and ability to monitor sound. Oh! And dead cats. Killer deal!
Great tutorial. One of the most helpful aspects was also showing how you positioned the phone relative to you and the table. That is left out of so many tutorials like this.
Thanks for the tips, Anthony! I just bought the Rode Smart Lav+ and the Zoom H1N as you suggested! Just a PSA for some people: you need to also buy a TRRS to TRS adapter to connect the Zoom H1N and the Rode Lav+✌
I love the content my man! I havent quite been able to grind out the 14 day filmmaker course in 14 days but I am still chipping away at it! Theres a lot of extremely valuable content offered within the course that will jumpstart the content creation process for most anyone in the beginner to intermediate stages. Thanks again!
Oddly enough, right next to the PoP mic on your amazon search was the maybesta wireless lavalier mic. At 29.99 that thing is amazing, theres a reason it has 4.4 stars across 2.5k reviews. And while that one is lightning, for the iphone, they do a USB C one, but also do a multi adapter version that works in all phones and on digital cameras. And for about $10 more, theres a version that has a built in recharge case Hands down the best mic on a budget. So I would argue that mic and decent lights over the Rode setup or the DJI (even though, of course, they are better sound) :)
This was incredibly helpful. Thank you so much. it has answered my questions and taken the fear out of creating videos. I'm so grateful that I found this video!! Huge thanks
Excellent delivery and video. None of it was new to me, but I still stayed because the script, delivery, editing, and content were so fantastic. Kudos.
I’m not even done watching the video yet and it’s already been so helpful that I had to pause and comment. This has to be the single, most helpful video I’ve ever watched for how to film content for beginners, especially because it’s specifically for using one’s smartphone, which even tho must of us are in this early stage, most videos for beginner content creation don’t focus on it. I’ve watched hundreds of videos at this point since I started a couple years ago, and if I had only watched this single video and none of the others, I would have all of the information I needed. Long story short, thank you.
Hello! As I understand it, the video was shot on an iPhone 13 or something like that. Maybe I'm wrong, but in my opinion the face looks quite flat. Is it possible to somehow set the lighting to create volume? How can you do this during the day, when the sun illuminates the entire room, and in the evening, when you use artificial light?
I shot this video in HDR and then edited in premiere pro which doesn't play nice with the HDR footage. In hindsight it would have improved a ton by NOT shooting in HDR so silly me for leaving that feature on. Additional time spend on lighting would also help
I always get excited to see a new video from you! So knowledgeable and easy to digest 🙌🏻 I would absolutely love to see more videos on your video editing process, the effects you use etc. Your editing is always on point 🔥
❤ As a English student I want to thank you for this video, it is so easy to understand, not just explain what you need but why with examples. I feel your course can be very helpful because you talk normal, (others give me anxiety) and it is so easy to understand. I really want to learn Final Cut Pro and how to store my content. I don’t have a computer but I want to buy Mac can you please let me know what aspects the computer need to have. This is the first video I watch and you have a 😊 New subscriber ❤
This was very helpful thank you! I am just starting to do some content and hope to grow my audience and I’ve been trying to learn as much as possible! Very helpful 👊🏼
What a serious eye opener. I thought i needed an expensive camera to have quality content 😊. This video is so informative , excited for the actual 14day filmmaker
This content is very much appreciated, Anthony. I’m a total newbie and your content demystifies the steps to making videos without spending a fortune. I love that the macbook can show the phone screen image… can I ask how you propped up your MacBook like that?

But I want to do you tube video. Thank you Anthony you are great you are a keep it simple stupid that is what I love!
Hi 👋 mrpaul best advice ever for real bro ,i have several question ,1)what about youtube title and description and tagging do you focus at them or no,2nd do you know a site where we hire people do the vidoe for us and we pay them
I just wanted to say thank you for the informative video, but what I was most impressed with was the price of your program and your statement. "We want to make an affordable and informative program" that is awesome and much appreciated!
I have some questions. If I’m standing, should the camera still be at eye level? Should it be slightly higher and pointed slightly down? Is there a video where you demonstrate this more? Thanks in advance for your help!
That comes down to personal preference. I usually do eye level but sometimes I go above and below. I’d do a test clip each way and see for yourself which you like more.
This is one of the best videos I've seen on making better looking videos with your phone. Honestly, I'm not using any of the great tips you discussed here and yet I've still had people be really surprised to learn that I use my i-phone-and old one at that- to film all my content. In the 21'st century I just don't see the need for an expensive camera (for what I do, at least) to shoot great looking footage. I DO need to get a better handling on audio though, and the options you gave here were excellent. I'll be coming back to this video often man. I've saved it to make it easy to find. Thanks!
Hey guys... I bought the course a few months back, (love it,, excellent...), I wanted to know if the new things you added to the course are available for people like me that already bought it before...? thanks! cheers!
4K is great to shoot in because you can digitally zoom in without any obvious loss of quality. If you shoot at 1080p or less, digital zooms or "crop shots" tend to look unusually soft or even blocky. My 2c. :)
@@MrPaulXavier if I record at good enough resolution, my storage gets full so quickly leading me to not be able to film longer content. It kinda sucks having the tools but not really being able to fully access the benefits.
Great source of inspiration, Paul Xavier. A few weeks ago, I got an iPhone 15 Pro Max and I am shifting my videos from an SRL camera to my iPhone because of its versatility and light weight (I am mostly filming in the Alps hiking or ski touring and this is an issue). You seem to me a nice guy with a lot of true experience on the field so I am going to buy your course to learn more about it and take my productions to the next level. Thank you for sharing, men. If you come one day to Switzerland, just let me know. I know plenty of outdoors outstanding places to be shoot. Cheers!
Hi, I just purchased your course. What phone is the best for vlogging? I have an Iphone SE but I think it would be better to go for the Iphone 15 Pro Max?
What editing apps do you reccomend for those using an adnorid phone for video creation? Especially when connecting the voice over and video?:o for beginners of course and non tech savvy people
Capcut and VN video editor are both great. We have entire training series on editing apps in our program if you want to check it out! The link is in the description of the video
Amidst the chaos and disarray, One can still create content in a clever way. By following steps with compositional finesse, Your footage can surely impress. Pick your scene with interest and depth, And clean it up, don't be inept. Composition is key, fill the frame, With straight lines and eyes, it's not a game. Lighting is crucial, don't forget, Diffused and soft, not hard and direct. Audio should be clear and refined, A mic or transmitter, take your pick, be aligned. Settings are important, don't ignore, Cinematic mode can make your footage soar. Lenses aren't needed, just use what you've got, And shoot at 24 frames per second, it's not a lot. In conclusion, let's not forget, Editing is key, it's a safe bet. Follow these steps, and with some practice too, Your smartphone footage will amaze, it's true.
This has so many great tips that I will start using immediately - thank you! I've been wondering about placement in the videos for a while, and was happy to find a 'blur' option for video capture on my pixel. Thanks!
I spent a lot of money on my filming and audio kit, and although I did some great video with this kit, I tend to use my phone quite a bit and the video I get is perfectly adequate for youtube, so if anyone has any ideas about spending thousands on gear for RUclips, don’t, just use your phone
Great video. I've recently bought a condo downtown but it only has 596sqft. Choosing a background is a bit difficult. There's plenty of windows in this small place. The only thing I can think of for creating space is creating a background or separation between kitchen and litroom or using a green screen.
Very helpful! Will definitely be looking into the products you mentioned. When you mentioned the tiny mic, I started to hear a scratching / cracking that became noticeable. Probably just the mic itself.
I appreciated the great insights! Most were excellent. However, I didn't like the blurry edge of the subject against the background, that should have been sharper. The very first scene on the video, where you contast the footage of the $5K camera vs the iphone 14, shows exactly the difference am pointing out. The 5k camera had the sharp seperation between the subject and the background that I prefer, and that should be.
The truth is l stopped using my dslr to shoot my vlogs and podcast cos my iPhone 13 Pro Max and 14 has cinematic mode and it the best .. so you are right .. am your new subscriber love from Belgium ❤
What do you recommend for a selfie stick or gimbal? I have tried a couple of selfie sticks that supposedly have control buttons for start/stop video and/or zoom (built in and controlled by Bluetooth) they they don't work.
The rhetorical stage of learning - being bf able to communicate what you know is spot on! In our faith, in anything….when you truly understand something, you should be able to explain it to some degree. And if you can’t, you’re ripe for being manipulated to something else. Behind every subject, there are facts and there is a why does this matter. So many focus on the why and skip over the why does this matter. And why does this matter is what I, as a homeschool mom, am constantly asking myself. What actually matters the most? Don’t skip out on those things and don’t stress over the things that just don’t matter in the grand scheme. Unfortunately, as you alluded, we’re wired to focus on the things that don’t always matter. That’s the education system we were raised in. Meanwhile the things that do matter are slipping through the cracks……this…our society has been “dumbed down.”
Great video, question, I have my iPhone setting set for video. But wanted to verify, I did it correctly. one thing is are we shooting on 4k 60fps or 24fps. any other details I might need to know?
Talking about lights, i use a softbox with a 60w led bulb as key, and a ringlight in the other side, dimmered down. You can use ringlights and look more cinematic, but need to position correctly, using as a light not as a tipod
This is super useful!! Thank you! I've seen that when you mirror your iPhone camera on your Mac you actually have the Mac turned laterally as the mirroring screen is 9:16! I am getting crazy to understand why I can only see it 16:9, can you help? Thanks a lot!
HI Great video, what do you recommend for me ,i am using my phone to record videos on my youtube channel but not happy with the sound , i use backing tracks , they will sound great , but when i play along i loose alot of the backing track volume , ANY Ideas ? I tried many external mic's but returned all ...
Awesome content in this one. Super useful tips and it’s crazy to see that anyone can start their journey from a simple position. I started my channel recently and it was truly nerve wrecking to get myself in front of a camera let alone recording myself! The community so far has been very nice and welcoming and I really appreciate it thank you for these tips my friend 😁
Incredible vídeo man, I 've just subscribed..am I the only who don't like this cinematic future? For me is too much artificial..would be nice if you show the best quality on manual using the filmic pro
Thanks! Its definitely not perfect but I do think it’s usable and really helpful for people creating online content for social and YT - but definitely still comes down to preference! The biggest thing for me is it doesn’t really nail skin tones just yet
Have you figured out how to separate your audio channels when using the 2 wireless DJI mics w/IPhone? Or do you just record on each internal wireless mic, then sync in post?
If I buy the better mic you suggest, could I just use my smartphone and an adapter to usb-c to record the audio? I'll be using a DSLR for the camera so wondering if I can save on needing to buy the dedicated recorder? Thanks!
In the audio setup you'd recommend for 90% of people.. How would you record video if the mic is connected to the same phone? Do you mean use two phones?
I didn't notice that the bookshelf behind you was slightly tilted. Even after you mentioned it I was not distracted because the tilt was very slight so it didn't matter. More importantly, what you were saying was so interesting that the background hardly mattered. The tilt was to the right for the viewer so it looked OK, but if the tilt was to the left then it would have been very slightly distracting.
Would you ever recommend selling you M50 Mark II with a f1.4 lens in order to buy an iPhone 14 Pro for shooting RUclips VIDEOS? For me it’s about the depth of focus
The m50 will get much more background blur naturally. The iPhone can only so that by adding artificial blur with cinematic mode. Both great cameras though
Thank you so much for this video, it was so helpful, seeing some of your videos, and right away subscribed to your channel, And now at 2:30 am at night watching your videos Love from India 🇮🇳🙏 One question, can we mirror iphone screen on ipad, Pls guide how if yes 🙏🙏

Same here just chipping away
@@jttp362 It's a grind for sure. I'm just trying to hone in on one new bit of info every time get the camera out.
@@3PMedia exactly what I did this weekend. I'm just building my content library using the camera technique. Then I will focus on editing
@@jttp362 I think that's a smart move
nice
Oddly enough, right next to the PoP mic on your amazon search was the maybesta wireless lavalier mic. At 29.99 that thing is amazing, theres a reason it has 4.4 stars across 2.5k reviews. And while that one is lightning, for the iphone, they do a USB C one, but also do a multi adapter version that works in all phones and on digital cameras. And for about $10 more, theres a version that has a built in recharge case
Hands down the best mic on a budget.
So I would argue that mic and decent lights over the Rode setup or the DJI (even though, of course, they are better sound)
:)
Kudos.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing!@@MrPaulXavier
I always get excited to see a new video from you! So knowledgeable and easy to digest 🙌🏻 I would absolutely love to see more videos on your video editing process, the effects you use etc. Your editing is always on point 🔥
Will do!!
I agree!! I’m a 14 day subscriber and was watching this to see if any thing New had been added
true
❤ As a English student I want to thank you for this video, it is so easy to understand, not just explain what you need but why with examples. I feel your course can be very helpful because you talk normal, (others give me anxiety) and it is so easy to understand. I really want to learn Final Cut Pro and how to store my content. I don’t have a computer but I want to buy Mac can you please let me know what aspects the computer need to have. This is the first video I watch and you have a 😊 New subscriber ❤
We have an entire video on the channel about computers I think that would help you!
Glad it was helpful!
This is amazingly great content! Good job bro!
Great job! You squeezed all the essential info into a watchable length.
Glad it was helpful!
Fabulous concise overview, THANKS!
Thank you!
This is probably the best smartphone-to-RUclips video I’ve ever seen. Thanks so much. Subscribed.
That’s what I like to hear! Welcome to the community 🔥💪🏻
This content is very much appreciated, Anthony. I’m a total newbie and your content demystifies the steps to making videos without spending a fortune. I love that the macbook can show the phone screen image… can I ask how you propped up your MacBook like that?
Hi this may be a strange question but when using your phone to record, do you look at the screen or at the camera lens. Thanks
At the Camera lens😊😊
@@beautybyng thanks so much
I came by this video by accident! It is a wealth of information! I am NOT tech savvy! I always had someone do that for me I was a people person! Staffing for many years and oilfield sales. But I want to do you tube video. Thank you Anthony you are great you are a keep it simple stupid that is what I love!
Also i would love to learn how to use my camera correctly!
Glad you’ve been enjoying the content!
You're very welcome!
Thanks!
Love to hear this!
I noticed you doing a subtle zoom when you were at a main point of a statement or when you asked a question.. it speaks to people.
Those little editing tricks go a long way 🔥
My 2c. :)
The one thing I struggle with the most is storage, do you have any tips for this? Thank you so much for such amazing content!
What are you struggling with when it comes to storage?
@@MrPaulXavier if I record at good enough resolution, my storage gets full so quickly leading me to not be able to film longer content. It kinda sucks having the tools but not really being able to fully access the benefits.
Get an external hard drive and transfer the footage off of your phone!
Cheers!
Love it!
This was Awesome!💪🏾💯 This video was informative without the extra fluff; straight to the point. I'm a new subscriber!

What do you recommend for a two pack wireless lav. Microphone?
Hi, I just purchased your course. What phone is the best for vlogging? I have an Iphone SE but I think it would be better to go for the Iphone 15 Pro Max?
iPhone 15 Pro Max is my personal favorite!
Amidst the chaos and disarray,
One can still create content in a clever way.
By following steps with compositional finesse,
Your footage can surely impress.
Pick your scene with interest and depth,
And clean it up, don't be inept.
Composition is key, fill the frame,
With straight lines and eyes, it's not a game.
Lighting is crucial, don't forget,
Diffused and soft, not hard and direct.
Audio should be clear and refined,
A mic or transmitter, take your pick, be aligned.
Settings are important, don't ignore,
Cinematic mode can make your footage soar.
Lenses aren't needed, just use what you've got,
And shoot at 24 frames per second, it's not a lot.
In conclusion, let's not forget,
Editing is key, it's a safe bet.
Follow these steps, and with some practice too,
Your smartphone footage will amaze, it's true.
This has so many great tips that I will start using immediately - thank you! I've been wondering about placement in the videos for a while, and was happy to find a 'blur' option for video capture on my pixel. Thanks!
You got it!
Thanks for your video. Really great information. In the filming of this video, when filing yourself, did you use the front or rear facing camera?
I spent a lot of money on my filming and audio kit, and although I did some great video with this kit, I tend to use my phone quite a bit and the video I get is perfectly adequate for youtube, so if anyone has any ideas about spending thousands on gear for RUclips, don’t, just use your phone
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for this. I want to make contents for RUclips but don’t know where to start. This is great stepping stones ❤
You can do it!
Welcome to the community!
You can also use a mirror behind the phone to see what you doing when shooting with your back camera 📷
What do you recommend for a selfie stick or gimbal? I have tried a couple of selfie sticks that supposedly have control buttons for start/stop video and/or zoom (built in and controlled by Bluetooth) they they don't work.
Hi thanks for the video, may I ask which iphone lens did you choose to shoot? 0.5x?
Hey is the neewer teleprompter x14 good recording with iphone 13. Some reviews say the box gets in your shot what your suggestion for teleprompter
Thank you so much! I have a question. How to upload your iPhone videos to RUclips, is coming out in QuickTime format and I can't upload.
Great video, question, I have my iPhone setting set for video. But wanted to verify, I did it correctly. one thing is are we shooting on 4k 60fps or 24fps. any other details I might need to know?
We actually JUST released an entire video that covers all of the settings in detail. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/upCZ-FmApeg/видео.html
Hi, do you have advice for content creators that do unboxing, top down shots, product reviews??
Talking about lights, i use a softbox with a 60w led bulb as key, and a ringlight in the other side, dimmered down.
You can use ringlights and look more cinematic, but need to position correctly, using as a light not as a tipod
than u said the same in the next sec after i paused...
This was a HUGE help!…very easy to follow and no faffing about…you’ve got yourself another subscriber 😎 thanks a bunch
Glad it helped!
This is super useful!! Thank you! I've seen that when you mirror your iPhone camera on your Mac you actually have the Mac turned laterally as the mirroring screen is 9:16! I am getting crazy to understand why I can only see it 16:9, can you help? Thanks a lot!
Hi, May I know how many watt of LED light bulb should I get? 85W or 150W for soft light? Does it including the light setting in your course?
Great video!! Can you explain how you mirrored the iPhone camera to your Macbook? Thank you
HI Great video, what do you recommend for me ,i am using my phone to record videos on my youtube channel but not happy with the sound , i use backing tracks , they will sound great , but when i play along i loose alot of the backing track volume , ANY Ideas ? I tried many external mic's but returned all ...
Awesome content in this one. Super useful tips and it’s crazy to see that anyone can start their journey from a simple position.
I started my channel recently and it was truly nerve wrecking to get myself in front of a camera let alone recording myself! The community so far has been very nice and welcoming and I really appreciate it
thank you for these tips my friend 😁
Glad you enjoyed it!
i learnt more in this video than watch 30 other videos! Thanks for this. I use my iphone for my recording and this has been so informational!
Glad it was helpful!
I used iPhone 11 and it works just fine but I’m saving money for a iPhone 15 pro max and thanks for sharing your experiences with us 😊
Nice!
Do you use a teleprompter? Any tips on how you do the actual recording? Do you do it in one take? Or different layers?
Check out our channel we have a video on teleprompters!
At the end where you say editing is another video… one you’ve made or one we can hope to see in the future? Thanks!
Incredibly helpful! Thanks, lad!
What you think about to use led tubes for this video ? Would be the quality better or not ?
Have you figured out how to separate your audio channels when using the 2 wireless DJI mics w/IPhone? Or do you just record on each internal wireless mic, then sync in post?
If I buy the better mic you suggest, could I just use my smartphone and an adapter to usb-c to record the audio? I'll be using a DSLR for the camera so wondering if I can save on needing to buy the dedicated recorder? Thanks!
Yes absolutely!
In the audio setup you'd recommend for 90% of people..
How would you record video if the mic is connected to the same phone? Do you mean use two phones?
you can indeed mirror a samsung to a watch and control your camera from it, i downloaded an app to my galaxy watch to allow this
I didn't notice that the bookshelf behind you was slightly tilted.
@@MrPaulXavier Thanks! I've just wondered whether my RUclips videos will still look as professional as with a professional camera
Thank you so much for this video, it was so helpful, seeing some of your videos, and right away subscribed to your channel, And now at 2:30 am at night watching your videos
