it is the second street bike ive owned ever. the first was a harley davidson electra glide (old man bike) i purchased 1.5 years ago. i have owned the super duke that i bought new for 6 months and have put over 3000 miles on it and i am in love. and i can say this... this bike can be ridden by beginners (that have once learned the basics of how to operate a motorcycle) just leave it in rain mode and its very tame and very fast. no chances of wheelie even when you dump the clutch it will cut power so you wont kill yourself. but as soon as you go in street or sport mode with traction control off. for a beginner, all bets are off it goes from a very tame animal that will give you kisses and say oopsies and will help pick you back up when you mess up to a fire breathing snaggle toothed beast that does not care if you live or die and will put you on your neck the very chance it gets. i was merging on to an interstate and got on the power early in sport mode exiting a corner and thank god i had traction control on because it started sliding and i was about to release the throttle and start correcting it but it did it all for me. im confident i would have come out but just that piece of mind of the traction control that actually does something and helps. also the abs is amazing i know alot of people complain about bike abs saying its too much like a helicopter parent. on the ktm its only there when you are REALLY messing up and doesnt ruin very spirited riding but when spirited goes to oh SH!T its there. So basically if youre a beginner wanting to buy a superduke leave all the aids on. and i mean all!

@@ryeann2567 just got done with the first track day this past saturday on my heavily modded superduke (dyno tuned to 185 rwhp and 107 rwtq with oz gass rs-a wheels and dunlop q5 tires) i did great! the instructors bumped me from novice to intermediate class within the first two sessions of riding the track. youre right this bike isnt for beginners i will give you that. but im not in over my head i can assure you that. but i still stand by the fact a beginner can ride a gen 3 superduke with it in rain mode and be 100% fine. first i let them figure out the controls on another bike and once they prove to me they can take off smoothly and stop smoothly and maintain control of the bike i dont have an issue with them on my modded superduke (only in rain mode with all aids)

I am a pretty inexperienced rider. I picked up riding again 3 years ago after not doing it for over 20 years, and so my time on the bikes are limited. I went through several bikes before I ended up on the new 2023 Super Duke R Evo, and I can hand on heart say that I have never felt safer on a bike than I do on this. As long as the electronics do not fail (ideally they won't) it's very safe even for beginner riders. Add to the insane amounts of fun it is with this engine and the agility it has, I couldn't think of anything more fun to ride. It comes at a cost, but I am a big guy so I also would not fit in a lighter 600 or 800 bike in the same way. Absolutely recommend it.

Well, sort of a clickbait? Actually, it is easy to ride and many of these large engine capacity bikes are mostly more easier to ride than the small capacity bikes, I would say. We had 2 of the 1. gen sdr 1290:s for 7 years and for more than 30 000kms and because they were suitable for us and our riding habits (nice and easy, no hooligan acts for the most) and they were easy to do servicing we traded them to 2021:s in 2021... Not a bad word, only the wiring recall (which is not a large job to do but has to be documented by the official dealership, 3 small frame coverings to be installed) and lousy indicator cancels are aggravating (that is under importer consideration if it is a warranty replace issue or not, there seems to be an updated serial number on the spare parts list). This is more smooth to ride in street traffic - the earlier one were nice too but their balance was at the rear so the front tire was a little light in spite of setting the bars in the utmost front position. Otherwise the gen 1. was great for a 180 cm rider, just like riding a mx-bike... For us older persons and with a little stiff joints, the gen. 3 bars are slightly too low. Risers are available. To be seen if they help. Also, the suspension is on the soft side for a 100kg rider, stiffer springs are available on market but not tested yet.
Anyhow, cruise control is great - one cannot undestand the need for it before one tries it. Quickshifter is also great but it need a little development work - still it could be better and more flexible. The possibility to change the shift pattern to upside down without the need to buy any accessories is very good idea! The easy rideability, light weight and torque characteristics are the main reasons for having this bike. Nice bike but just for one, I think (if your lady is willing to ride with you, better buy two of those at the same time...).
Recommend? I do not recommend any bike to any person - there are so many circumstancial variables. Rider height, weight, roads and traffic... I just watched a video from Wales in where a 250 Triumph Tiger Cub was ridden - and thought there is no need for a larger bike at all. A KTM 390 Duke or Adventure might be great for those roads on that video.

    • @KrishnenduKes
      @KrishnenduKes  Год назад

That is a good question. The answer is not simple. And your thoughts are very legit. It can be a "do all" bike. But there can be some limiting factors for a few riders like I have experienced with some riders:
Experience: more than the number of years, what matters is the number of miles.
Conditions of riding: How varied has been your experience? What kind of conditions?
Personal build: If the rider is not very tall (short like me) or not strong enough to move around a "big bike", it can be daunting.
These factors are more important than the electronics package on the bike. That said, the electronics package can be quite forgiving.

I would love such a bike, but age is increasing and smart thought is to not go for a depreciating asset, but maybe I'll have one in life if I reach a place where we can actually utilise it, at least 50% if not 100%..
But for the long term, I think KTM should try to go 1390... they should aim the full faired variant of this bike at the 262 kgs heavy Hayabusa.
The 1290 GT already comes pretty close, half faired as it may be.

As a first bike for someone? definitely yes, too much bike. When I lived in San Diego I used to hear about Camp Pendleton marines that would go out and buy a Ninja 1000 as their first bike, ride like idiots and kill themselves because they did not know how to properly respect such horsepower or have the riding knowledge to know what to do. This bike makes an old Ninja 1000 look like a Vespa. In the hands of an experienced rider the SD is absolutely the most fun naked on the market, especially for the street. To your point though, not a smart first bike but this bike can be ridden tamely so a new rider can certainly ride it but its when you want to get nasty you better know what you are doing. I have owned over 70 bikes and the new EVO version is one of if not the best bike I have ever owned. Thinking about the 23 ADV-S as well. Z900 was a great bike to ride but I preferred the Z1000, I felt it had nicer ergonomics, and the bars were not as wide which made it easier to filter :)

@@mrnobody9821the wider bars on the z900 for me are more comfortable. And the 900 also feels more nimble and playfull.. the 1000 is basically a stripped out supersport.

Been riding the 1290 SDR since 2021, I had a 790 before. After two years it became just right for me in terms of oomph. A little bit more power would be great but I guess that's 300 HP club then. Everybody that says 180 HP on a bike is too much doesn't know how to ride a bike.

Been riding an R1 since 2006. Done half a million miles on more motorcycles than I can actually count. 180hp is too much power for folks who are starting out.

@@KrishnenduKes No it's not. Nobody forces you to open the throttle all the way. Beginners should get a real bike right away, than buying 12 different lawnmowers just to then end up with a 180 HP bike at the end anyway. You'll learn the basics just as fast or even faster on a stronger bike, without wasting your money on sub 1000cc girls bikes.

Definitely not a bike for tiny (rookie) manlets who can't touch the concrete with their heels.

2:00 "MotoGP pattern" doesn't mean anything, here. It's a racetrack pattern if you want, but MotoGP bikes use seamless gearboxes, and you go through ALL gears from 1st to 6th by shifting the lever down. On seamless gearboxes, you actuall need to push a button to get into neutral. Edit: also, what's with the subtitles? 2:52 "You can alter justice manually..." I think I'm done with this channel.

Say your review, while crouched next to the bike, is based around a Hypermotard not being suitable for beginners, lol.

You're either the wrong person to be reviewing the superduke or you need to go buy a cruiser. The 2023 sdr is the best bike I've owed hands down. Or your title is click bait and then you're a spud anyway. So three choices, you're a spud, a spud or a spud.

Thanks for your comment. Still would not recommend it to new bikers and beginners.
Edit: Btw, my daily is an R1. So...
