It’s going to turn a lot better, and won’t run wide in turns like the stock set up which puts the axel at 12 o’clock in the hub, This puts the rear in the lowest position possibleX, with fork angle raked out mor, and an increased trail measurement of under 103mm, stock trail is just under 108mm.

-Bought mine about 3 months ago - my second SD. My son who's a natural on a mc and experienced plenty of my past bikes states this is the best one I've ever had. Only EVO's available at my purchase date - wanted manual adjustment. There's still some sorting to do on the electronics for on occasion a "traction control malfunction" warning comes on and it cuts off a chunk of my power band and slows me suddenly. I get suspension malfunction warnings as well. Also I get a warning of the keyfob being out-of-range and it freaks me out in thinking I've dropped or lost my key and I'll be screwed when I turn the bike off. I love the riding position and find it quite comfortable. I've seen some peeps have put SuperAdventure S risers on their handlebars but no need for me. There's also a micro fairing just in front of my instruments that for me keeps wind buffeting just a mild disturbance around my arms and upper shoulder. Works great. Here in California, USA I can split lanes so I have folding bar-end mirrors which clean up my forward view as well -Gives me the added perception of flying through space and time. Last downside: impatience can crop up in traffic and others seem to me moving incredibly slow.

I had from new a 2016 gen 1 1290 Super Duke R special edition, my first ever new bike, until I was T boned last year by a lad in a BMW, and the bike was written off, so with the insurance dosh I got a 2015 gen1 Super Duke R with some very nice mods done by previous owners low milage and I had new front discs and sintered pads put on,also a map and full Boddis system it sounds like a Moto GP bike, not ridden it yet as it's taken over a year to get back to normal, with titanium bits in me and lots of physio, but having a bike in the garage even though it's not ridden yet is my incentive, I need to be fully fit to cope with a modified 1290 SDR, been enjoying watching your channel must say, roll on spring and ill be out.😊😊

Great video. I’d ordered a new Pikes Peak last September to be here for March this year. This was to replace a V4 Multistrada as a do it all sports bike as I am of a certain age. I was then told that delivery was delayed and they weren’t sure when I would get it .I’d taken time off in March to ride it. A friend had a new Super duke R Evo which I loved the look of but had never ridden. My local dealer JD Racing had a deal on plus they would give me the tech pack. So I bought one thinking I would trade it back in as and when the Pikes Peak finally turned up. I absolutely fell in love with this thing. I’ve done a couple of mods to to it sensible things like rad guards etc. I already had heated grips and tyre pressure monitors fitted. I then had the SC Projects road slip on fitted which gives it a better sound and looks OE. The Pikes Peak eventually turned up which is also a brilliant bike, but I just couldn’t bring myself to get rid of the Super duke. I love that thing so much.. Hence forth I now have two expensive bikes in the garage and no money in the bank 😂😂😂. Still, you can’t take it with you!!! 😅

I am a happy third-generation owner. I have always had supersport bikes, but the fun you have on mountain roads with this bike is embarrassing. Last week I rode 1800 km in 4 days through the hills and mountain passes of Italy and I didn't have a half a pain in my arms, butt or legs... on Saturday it had been a rainy day, rain map and the delivery becomes a butter. Taking advantage of the engine's torque, the fuel consumption is really low. It's simply the bike that everyone should have in their garage. I'm addicted to it. I don't think I'll ever have an engine other than this under my ass again. Front tyre to the skyyyyy!!!! ❤

I've just completed my first year on the bike - my 12 mo. service interval. It may be the finest motorcycle I've ever owned. Issues of note for me are that the clutch flued somehow gains air over time and requires bleeding, the predicative estimated mileage indicator is not to be relied upon; the front break rubs the pads which one can hear when pushing the bike around with the engine off, and it does seem to eat a bit of oil and coolant over time, warning notifications come on unexpectedly when out in the field but will go away if the bike is turned off for a minute or so and, small niggle, the two oil drain ports spill oil directly onto the exhaust. I get much better mileage than with my previous MT-10 and Tuono's so, big power yet some range. It's my 2nd SD and I attest that the engine is way better around town at slower speeds. It's pretty much everything I want in a motorcycle and it will be hard to find anything else that is overall as competent.

I’ve got an EVO on order to replace my 890 Duke R. Weighing only 10 stone and being vertically challenged (28-29” inside leg) my biggest concern was would the suspension cope and the seat height. However, the EVO adjusted itself perfectly for my and running in dynamic mode it lightened the damping around town and dual carriageways but firmed up on the back roads. Test riding a BMW S1000R its suspension didn’t seem to vary for me in dynamic mode so guess I’m not heavy enough. It was a lovely bike but lacked the low down immediate grunt of the SDR. Another advantage of the EVO is that it’s possible to adjust the ride height, so it could be +10mm on sports riding or -10mm for motorways or for me U-turns. That makes the EVO worth the extra money for me.
Awesome videos keep them coming. And scratch your itch and buy the SDR 😉

The problem is you lower the bike with less preload, that not the way to do it. You bike is more into rear travel b4 you even hit a bump, it’s a compromised system, you can’t swap spring rate either as it’s algorithm is based on the stock spring rates.

    • @PatBloomfield
      @PatBloomfield Год назад

I don't think the height adjustment is done through preload as that should be based on your weight. As you say, the preload setting will affect your position within the suspension stroke so if you're close to the top or bottom it may be necessary to change the springs for a different spring rate. If the ride height is adjusted through preload that will reduce the useable weight range of the spring.@@bryansuperduke1290r

I got mine in June, Tank cap broke immediately but was replaced on warranty for a Technical Improvement part. Apparently they had a bad batch. Other than that, it's been a blast, turns heads everywhere it goes, have a titanium GP1RS slip on with colour etched logo and orange tip on the way from Austin, 10 week lead time, then it will be complete.

But I miss the madness of the Super DUke, and while the CB1000R has a nice scream, I miss the sound of the KTM's. I may have to get one...
Why did I get rid of it? Oh, right, I was getting in too much trouble with it :)

KTM do tend to offer decent discounts, the reason why there are a lot of bikes left, isn't that they're bad, I think they're great, but we're in a cost of living crisis and motorcycles are a luxury. If you have the means, yes it's a good time to dive in, but they depreciate so hard, you can get a good gen 1 for half the price with low milage, I'm still considering one, I was also looking at Ducati Supersport, also a lovely motorcycle, but the KTM is so much more bike for the money.

I agree with you as we have talked about before Chopsy, not only the superduke but all nakeds and sporttouring bikes should be more aggressive in riding style like the M1000R.
I testrode the 890 SMT and I did not like it that much which is a shame. The 890 Duke felt faster and lighter but yeah too small. The Hypermotard is better than the SMT, KTM should have made a 180 kg fully fueled 890 SMC-R with 120hp instead of the SMT to rival the Hyper, that would surely be fun bike!

@RikkyTang I am thinking of buying a Super Duke GT 2017 for cheap money next year.
It has everything I need, there is nothing really except maybe downblipper from the gen 2 that I need. Color tft and stuff like that is not that important. The new design is nice sure but not really needed.
The gen 1 Super Duke GT I can get for about 8000€ with around 20 000 km on it (12 000 miles) That is a lot of bike for the money as you surely know.
New bikes are getting crazy expensive, I have been thinking about it and a new Super duke GT GEN 2 for double the money than a used GEN 1 with not that many miles on it is just not worth getting the new GEN 2.
The GEN 3 will surely be above 16 000£ It is just not worth it anymore.
Will take several years before that bike will be worth the money used in my opinion.

I have heard people complain a lot on the S1000XR that it vibrates alot on the highway on higher revs I did not notice that neither. I find other stuff in bikes I dislike instead that you probably would never think of so I guess we are picking up on different things, people are different
