  • I love it when manufacturers go out on a limb and give us something quirky. Products such as the Pontiac Aztek, Isuzu VehiCROSS and Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet are some of my personal favorites. So when Land Rover decided to build an Evoque convertible I was all in.

    This car doesn't get the credit it deserves. I hate that people always compare this to the Nissan Murano when it's only similar in that it's an SUV and a convertible. Steve I love that you love carmakers that take a chance because I do too. Everything can't be a RAV4 or a Camry. Another fantastic review Steve.

      Thanks, Craig! In my auto critic circles I'm always in the minority on these types but I could care less. We should applaud unique product so companies will feel empowered to make more. But all the big voices take these opportunities to rip them so they'll look cool with their peers. As you know, that's not me ;-)

    I think this is unique and cool! Good for Land Rover. Sick of seeing basic crossovers, but I'd let this one go ahead of me in traffic :)

      Fun for a cruise where there might be some off-road adventures.

    I would say who the hell would buy this thing but then I remembered my buddy owns a Nissan Murano convertible.

      Let me play devil's advocate for a minute; what are some of your favorite vehicles on the market right now - if you could have anything?

    Hey Steve. This was clearly an exercise in "lets see how many will take the bait."

    I will say this Steve always a great review and way better then most people saying ummmm every two seconds. As for all the negative comments by viewers at least you took the time to respond to their BS. Stick to what you do it has worked so far, so you have a good model working, as for the nay sayers FO.

    Has the infotament system crashed on you during its stay with you? I keep reading about them crashing and the BT cutting out on Land Rovers and Jags.

      Funny you ask...the connections between it and my phone were very inconsistent. That happens from time-to-time in almost every vehicle so I didn't think much of it.

    Can the top be opened or closed while the vehicle is in motion?

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  7 лет назад +1

      Yes. I tried it at slow speed. Worked fine. About 17 seconds.

      It wasn't the Rubicon Trail but I can extrapolate. I've also done RR Driving School and it's legit.

      What's your dream car?

    • @SSS-mp8th
      @SSS-mp8th 7 лет назад

      E63 S AMG Wagon. Jag F-Type Coupe wold be my two favs that exist.
      Dream car would be a Chevy Nomad with a 6.2l V-8 from the Camaro, TR-6060 manual and rear biased, non-brake based torque vectoring. How's that for specific :)

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  7 лет назад

      SS S The E63 is also one of my favorites! But let's take the F-TYPE for a second...a car I also love. It's expensive, totally impractical, really tight inside and is basically a one trick pony. But we love it despite...no, for its shortcomings. It looks cool, is exclusive and goes like hell. Now, this Evoque replaces the F-TYPE's on-road performance with off-road. Otherwise, basically the same thing. My point being is that the cars car people tend to love the most are also the quirky ones with drawbacks. Or call it personality.

    The word "macho" isn't used too often these days, but I'd say this SUV is lacking in the macho department.
    I wonder if it would be possible to use a Thule ski box on it with the top down? That would turn heads. Perhaps even cause an accident or 2

      I think if you guys saw it in a different color with the Black Design Package you'd have a different opinion.

      Objectively, I agree with your take on this car.
      Subjectively, It's not for me. That said, I'd like to be a passenger in this car, top down, with Cindy Crawford at the helm and Genesis pumping bodaciously (band, not Hyundai)

    It doesn't have enough power to justify the Land Rover badge or the price.

    • @stevehammes

      Mercedes A Class, Audi A3, Aston Martin Cygnet...feel the same about those?

    • @firefox39693
      @firefox39693 7 лет назад

      Yes. I do. You and I both know the Cygnet was a ridiculous car. It wasn't conducive to an Aston Martin.
      The S3 is perfectly fine. It has enough power to wear the Audi badge and command the price it has.
