Thanks! This is the comment I needed right now.
My family has been pushing me to start an art business for YEARS and I think I might finally make the jump! Thank you for creating all this content to help other artists, you make the process seem a lot less daunting.
please DO .... honestly .... if there is anything we should do in life, its follow our passions and make money while doing it if we can lol !!! YOU GOT THIS NOW GO DO IT hehe
@@itsjessicahomann Thank you for your encouragement!! I’m still at the very start of the planning stage - school and work and life seem to be sucking up all of my time rn sadly. I know I have room to carve out for art, I just need to make it a bigger priority! It’s always helpful to have people like you remind me that what I create is important & has value, so I really appreciate your kind words.
yes and i love that you have a positive family support group
@@blackgirlemonight Aw thank you, I'm glad too! They really are my biggest fans, I'm grateful for all the inspiration & motivation they give me :')
@@safegourd You have an awesome family if they push you like that :) Believe me it's definitely worth it!
Honestly, I watch a lot of these videos from all kinds of creators. You're the most genuine and down to earth, honest one out there. All the best to you.
Absolutely agree. Even her affiliate segment seemed like I didn't wanna blow my brains out.
I like that you are using designer language and sorta translating it for artists. I'm a designer (branding and packaging), so I can definitely hear all that vocabulary and where it's coming from. Most artists are so small and isolated, they can really learn so much from designers about marketing, creating their own brand and products. You're doing good work.
Stumbled upon this video after being curious about digital products. Not only was this video helpful and easy to follow, but you have a charisma to you that's enjoyable to watch!
I’m so happy this video isn’t just “sell the most soulless content that’s AI generated so you can make the most money”
Because so many videos on digital products that I’ve clicked on have been like that 😭
But I’ve been subbed to you so I knew this would be good! Thanks for all of the tips ◡̈
That’s like 100% TikTok 😭 and it’s so disappointing to see
I cant stand ppl who hate on Ai...it is an amazing tool that can take some of the workload off us artists/creators
@@slimreaper3797Ai used as a TOOL to HELP artists etc. is fine (such as speeding up the process etc.) . But Ai generated art is NOT art. It uses stolen artwork made by real humans and churns out soulless slop.
@@slimreaper3797 we like ai but not ai art.
Thank you so much for sharing! It's so helpful. I've been in this world for almost five decades. I've struggled with chronic illness (including Hashimotos and major depression) most of that time. It took a long time to just admit I was an artist. So bravo. I've learned that being kind to myself is better for my productivity than bullying myself. I've been practically bed ridden for over a year and my brain is coming back online. I have lots of ideas but my body isn't always cooperating. I'm a photographer, painter, welder, landscape designer, etc. but it doesn't matter if I cannot create. I'm doing more stuff digitally and your content is just the things I need. Instead of using my little bit of energy on research, I can spend more time working on my plan to take over the world (lol), ehem, create. Bless you. ❤❤❤
Kelsey I just discovered your channel and what really struck me aside from your awesome content is how sincere you are in wanting to help us succeed as well. Thank you :)
I really enjoed your video after looking at so many other ones. I appreciate your authenticity and didn't feel like you were just constantly doing sales pitches. I like your humor too, when you said you file name should not be final final final and final that made me LOL!
Your content about online art careers is really inspiring. I drafted an entire tentative business plan in like 30 mins after watching some of your videos! Thank you and keep up with the good work!👏
Good for you kelsey! Keep on keepin on👏
Kelsey Thank you so much specifically not only for talking about your personal experience which is really important and valuable to all of us that are starting with our projects and products, but also for encouraging to start in a great way! I am planning to create a good product, I've always wanted but didn't know how
Wow, this came at the right time. I am enrolled in a course right now about marketing and sales and will be attending a social media marketing class later this month. Thank you for bringing this up Kelsey! I totally agree with what you said about, no matter how good the product is, if you don't know how to market it, people's not going to know it exist. All the best to you
Hi, iv been looking around for a course on marketing, i hope the one u had was good ❤😊 if u can share it here, thats be really great. Cheers!
Rooting for u 🙌🙌
Your explanation is on point. The way you talk & present it is clear. This is the video I've been looking for
I also just word vomit on a page because the visual outline is more important for me to get started than having the details fleshed out first. Concept 80% details 20%.
Luckily, i already have 10k followers on Facebook, so i can use that to my advantage. Im at the point where i can start focusing on creating the artwork/designs and start sharing. Hopefully i start selling soon. 🤞🤞
Lots of great info thanks....ps your thumbnail and thumbnail description got me
your videos always come at the perfect time!! 💚
Girl, it was hard to concentrate at the beginning, you're stunning, so pretty ! Thank you for the good content, it really helped me to understand a little bit more about digital products!
Great information Kelsey! Keep up the great content :)
7:07 to 7:58 was something I really need to hear 🙏🏻 thank you for this and your videos 🙋🏻♀️
I've always wanted to make colouring pages or books. So I thought this would be a good start into digital products. When I looked on etsy what the competition looked like, I see AMAZING art colouring pages that's AI generated :/ It's so disheartening since the level is so high already and they can afford to go stupid cheap. It's holding me back, why bother, you know? I tried starting up with stickers but so far no one wants them. so I'm hesitant to really go for it.
Do it !
I’m so glad I found your channel! Brb going to watch all your vids
Thank you, your videos are very inspiring, there are so many different kinds of digital projects at the moment, and to do a good job you also have to be personally innovative, and your videos have given me a lot to take away.❤
You're so right about RUclips/audience building advice (and most business style content too, tbh) being lacking when it comes to artists. I've watched tons and tons of it, and almost everything is about education OR pure entertainment. I don't want to be a teacher and do tutorials nor do I want to be a comedian and do weird challenges. Nor am I a weeb and do just fanart. Tell me how to make engaging studio vlogs, how to attract viewers with fine art. Idk if it's just the problem of content over art: a 100 hour painting twice a year doesn't really feed the beast.
Show sketches, vlogs, your inspiration etc. THINK CREATIVELY...
I’ve struggled immensely with this same dilemma, and I have very recently come to a conclusion (I wouldn’t say it’s THE conclusion) that people consumer art BECAUSE it’s art. People will look/watch/read/listen to the thing because it is art.
This sucks when you try to apply it to the content model. Because like you said, two 100hr paintings a year are not effective as “content”. And so learning how to walk that line is something I’m learning about.
One thing I’ve been doing is finding artists online who make just art as their content and finding ways to be inspired by them. I’ve mostly found that those artists post WIP updates or they make tiny versions of their usual art.
Also a good podcast that helps is the Creative Pep-talk Podcast.
Same for me, except that I do want to make illustrations and manga in my own style. But like you mentioned, I don't want to do fan art unless it's just for the fun of it and just show it to others on social media if I wanted to. Not intending to have any art at galleries either since it's usually frowned upon, they may take a huge chunk of the money, and I'm not too interested.
You provided REAL value here! Another subscriber 💙 Thank you
12:57 "final final final FOR REAL FINAL" got me laughing out loud 😂😂😂 So true))
Amazing video!👍👏 I just began my comic book collection and found Toon Haven. They have an incredible range of digital comics for every genre, including the hard to find ones. Lifetime updates too!
Love you!!!! Thanks for sharing with us.
Perfect way to start the day. I’ve been wanting to sell my artwork for a while now and had no idea where to start. Once again Kelsey your content is always appreciated ❤
Very good video Kelsey. Clear and concise. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. Working my own digital graphics on my Etsy story and website.
Kelsey's smirk is art itself 🌗
Thanks for sharing this helpful info. Like to way you talked naturally.
Hey Kelsey! Great video, as always. I love hearing your thoughts on making money as an artist. Keep it up! (BTW. Just so you know, my sister just said that you are pretty😊 (she's 11))
Thank you. This was the boost I needed to get started
"I pinky primise" love you and your videos young lady. You are a well of information and thank you for sharing so much value.

thank you for another helpful video Kelsey! I always have to take notes when I watch your vids LOL
Thank you so much for this
😃😃
Thank you for this video. If you made a podcast about artist and RUclips tips I would listen!
Hey Kelsey! Awesome video, and thanks for the info. Was wondering if you could give some guidance on starting up selling digital downloads and prints as well please, I'd really appreciate that! Thanks in advance 🙏🏾
Thanks for sharing some great quality and sincere content. I’ll follow you.
Great video and insights as always. If we’ve purchased the guide before will we be able to get access to the updated version?
Absolutely! Whenever I update it I send out an email to all previous customers.
I appreciate you for sharing this, excellent!
Thank you for this video, truly inspiting and transparent.
I'm looking for an option to get there as well, I'm a developer, have some experinece in teaching others: did meetups at job
Do you think it's a good to start doing some courses for this?
Thank you ☺️!
Do I have to register my business before starting ? Also, how does RUclips work with a business ?
I love the way you talk
WOW Kelsey you are the bomb. Your idea for using Discord is real life changer. Thank You🎉.
of course! glad it helped :)
Ya know I feel hope when someone interested in my art like some want me commissions but not rn.
Im new to content creation and off the back you have great content with such a clear camera and the audio quality is great as well. I see that you have the equipment linked but what mic does you use or is that the camera?
The mic is the Elgato Wave 1 with a custom EQ in GarageBand!
Congratulations on your success.
Thank you for this vid!! I'm having a LITTLE trouble brainstorming. I've been working on these designs on these creatures/entities that all sold out to collectors/supporters. A long term goal I have is creating a comic (manga-inspired) that can MAYBE eventually turn into an animated show in the future.
I'm having trouble figuring out what problems people may currently have with this line of entertainment. Currently my designs were digitally sold, nothing physically made as of yet (I may be doing trading cards (not a game, just collectibles)). Any ideas of potential problems people may currently be facing that I can work to try solving?
Thanks!
you just convinced me on doing it
First of all, thanks for the content. I have a question regarding digital products, do I need to register them so that I can sell online? For example, an ebook or a workbook?
kinda confused about what you mean but i didn’t register anything anywhere! you could file for copyright protections though if you wanted (maybe that’s what you mean?)
@@KelseyRodriguez Yes, that's what I meant 😆
I thought it was necessary to sorta 'register' for copyright protections. I have so many ideas for digital produtcs, thank you a lot for the answer!
You're automatically granted some copyright protections when you create a thing, but if you want additional protections you can go through here if you're in the US: www.copyright.gov. Generally I don't think this is necessary to start selling!
@@KelseyRodriguez thank you once again for the information!
commenting for whatever it helps with 🖼 🎨 👏
Pretty face to start my day ❤
& tnx for the video 👌
what platform do you recommend selling on or how to actually market and sell the digital product?????
Much gratitude 🙏🏾
What camera and lens do you use!? Your videos are very pleasant to watch plus the awesome information = win!
i keep meaning to make digital products to put up on places like creative market or make 3D bases to put on a few of the places that sell 3D products.
Great video!
Hi! I don't know if you've discussed this in previous videos before but it's been something that I've always wondered about when it comes to selling commissions and digital goods online--did you ever have to apply for a sales tax permit for your state/other states? (this is a very US specific question sorry oof). I want to sell but I get paranoid about having all the proper measures to do so, and I've gotten mixed answers from Google, and looking through the Comptroller's site [for my state] just confuses me on their parameters. If this isn't a question you're able to answer because tax advice and stuff is tricky, that's totally cool; could I ask what resources helped you on that front, though? Thanks!
honestly, I'd just ask a tax professional in your area and have them guide you through it. Also, don't underestimate the power of a phone call. When I'm confused about this stuff I just try to get a hold of someone that works at the state department of commerce, or even a city level worker, and they're pretty helpful!
@KelseyRodriguez thank you for the advice! Appreciate it a ton, your videos have been a blessing lol
Unless you’re selling on a marketplace (example: Etsy, Amazon, etc.), you don’t have to worry about taxes. If you’re selling on your own with your own site, then you do have to register with the state. Every state is different, so yes, you’d have to speak to a CPA.
Really need to meet you. I quit my 9 to 5 job because that made me overwhelmed and less appreciated. From the beginning of my life I always wanted to draw and spend my time crafting this and that. Now, I think I need to choose this as my profession but I am afraid of losing everything. Don’t know what to do.
As a note, it may help to have it not be an all or nothing set up. Sit down, review your finances. How much do you need to make? Then look at work options that allow you to get that baseline amount, but also let you schedule in time for creative work and development. It takes time to build up the path you're taking if you want it to be full-time. Keep that in mind.
Thanks Kelsey!

Please where exactly are you going to sell the digital products
my website. you could also sell on etsy, tiktok, gumroad, etc
Hi Kelsey
Please send me the link of your store.
Thank you
I'm so glad I watched this video! I admire how transparent you are about your journey
I low-key thought you were going to be sponsored by square space💀
I have a question, is there a possibility that someone will steal my account or even hack the PDF files that I sell, or is there a safe alternative other than PDF files?
Is it okay to sell different products but your target buyers are different from my other products? I've been told by someone that I should perform and create a consistency over my products so I can create a name (Or should I say "Value")
Added to Watch later for sure
Thanks for the informative video! 🤩 Where do I can sell my digital products?
I thought I was subscribed to you already lol wish you had a podcast just talking bout this
that’s a good thought honestly 👀
I realy love your video which encurage me to start online workl.
Valuable advice, thank you!! Im thinking about starting a template business as well using canva. Where do you think I should focus my efforts.....niche wise? Was thinking about creating templates for service based business, things they can use for their socials etc, but the amount of ideas and templates required is daunting. Any advice?
This was awesome, thanks for sharing.
The thing is I don't really want to like teach people how to draw or make like make a tutorial for anything. I'd rather just sell Prints and things like that on Etsy or my own website. Maybe you could make your video and how you get started with Prints there seems to be so many options with them so many websites.
I cover that a bit in this video here! ruclips.net/video/Nf0DgPtIymw/видео.html

I've tried advertising on social media, but I feel like a friend or family member is gonna have to be the 1st one to buy from my Etsy shop. Is that usually how it goes?
If I am just starting out and have zero followers on any channels.. can u suggest a way of marketing a $ 10 product?
