  • How can we find inner peace and guidance? How can we let go of our fears and anxiety? Learn to develop calm strength and resilience. Open yourself to develop your inner resources. We all have them. They are dormant within you, waiting to be awakened and nourished.
This powerful and beautiful ritual of praying with hand mudras and offering our life so that conciousnes can manifest through us, was taught by Baba Hari Dass, Indian scholar and beloved spiritual teacher. Mudras mean "seal" , "lock." These hand mudras are practiced to awaken stillness and surrender to a higher purpose in our life. They "lock in" the union of our individual sense of self with the higher Self within us. These series of 24 mudras, or symbolic gestures represent the evolution of our spirit taking shape into a physical body and our conscious journey back to our divine source with the help of grace.
These hand mudras where initially taught accompanying the Gayatri Mantra. The Gayatri Mantra is a Sanskrit mantra that has been chanted for thousands of years. It was written down during the Vedic period (1500-500 BCE) and is considered to be one of the oldest known and most powerful mantras. It is said to contain all the knowledge of the universe.
The Gayatri mantra is an expression of gratitude and praise to the powers of transformation, inner growth, and self realization provided by the radiant light of the divine.
The beautiful poem/prayer in English that accompanies our praying in this video with the hand mudras, is not a translation of the Gayatri Mantra, but a depiction of the meaning of the Sanskrit name of each of these 24 hand mudras. I invite you to practice along and experience the openness of your heart and the grace and inner sense of safety and connection that emanates from this practice.
To learn more about these natural ways of cultivating inner guidance and resilience, we invite you to join the current course "Embodying Safety: Integrating Yoga, Qigong and Polyvagal Theory™" taught by Dr. Stephen Porges and Dr. Amelia Barili. The course is offered through the Polyvagal Institute. Enrollment is open until August 8th.
