    6:40 I think they were laughing at Jane Curtin slipping and falling over the windowsill, getting up and then sort of walking out. At that moment, live, it was unexpected and very funny for Radner and Belushi...

    I was babysitting my brother and sister when this aired. Our parents came in to find us in hysterics- they sat down and laughed, too. Great tv.

    I just watched the movie version of The Coneheads, and it was amazingly good!! If you haven't seen it, it's imminently watchable. Great cast, underrated film.

      Movie was trash. Had lots of great talent, but they changed too much trying to make it more broadly appealing. I understand it’s difficult to make a sketch into a full length movie. The movie just wasn’t good, and seeing these old clips confirms it’s not just nostalgia.

    Even if FRESCA was a valid word in the Scrabble dictionary, the superior play would be FARCE for 2 less points, retaining the S, which at the start of the game is probably +7 leave equity.

      Agree, it was stupid to use the s, but even with your word you are putting an A in the 3x word column wich is bad defense, but I guess it all comes down to whether your technique is attack or defense. By holding the s, and being careless about the letter placed in the 3x column I'm guessing your more of an attack scrabble player

      1977 was the best SNL year . I'll never forget Jane Curtain ripping open her blouse and exposing her bra . That was so risque back then . Now you push a button and porn is in your face .

      SNL still has characters smoke sometimes. When Kate plays that Rafferty character who is constantly being abducted by aliens or ghosts, she is always smoking a cigarette.

      @@Crimethoughtfull The Conehead bits on SNL like this one were late 70s, early 80s. This particular one, per the description, was 1977. The movie was a bit of a throwback when it happened. Aykroyd also smoked prominently in Ghostbusters, which was 1984.

      Understandable mistake!
      It is said that a monkey was the only survivor of a shipwreck during the Napoleonic Wars. Since they'd never seen a Frenchman, locals assumed that the monkey was one, and that all the French must look like that. They put it on trial and it presumably didn't put up a good defence as they hanged it.
      (The story is associated with the people of Boddam in Scotland but was later taken up in Hartlepool in England, and people from Hartlepool are to this day called Monkey Hangers.)

    Belushi was a very underrated straight man. Everyone remembers him as a goofball but he could do serious foil roles well too. He could have ended up as a solid character actor if he had lived longer.

    Gilda Radner lost it at the end, which is priceless. Jane Curtin had issues following Dan and Laraine through the smashed window, and when she finally made it through, she dropped down in place, but her conehead was still visible. All humans love to laugh at the misfortunes of their friends. RIP

    I never was able to get into the Coneheads when I watched SNL in the 70s but I just re-watched two of their sketches (the other being the Family Feud skit) and really enjoyed them. Only took 43 years for me to appreciate them. I only remember them breaking character and laughing a small number of times back then (Candace Bergen mixing two names up was the one that stands out) but oh, poor Jane trying to get through that window.

    I had no idea the Coneheads originated on SNL, so I looked this up 😄 watched the movie many times as a kid in the 90's. I'm guessing this wasn't the first sketch with them?

    Posting this video made me rent Coneheads...I'm pretty sure I saw that movie like 2 dozen times in the 90s...Just because it was on TV. I don't exactly know what I'm doing...

    I never thought much of the Coneheads. I never say the movie until several years after it came out. Boy I enjoyed it. I liked the scene afterwards they were told being rescued was not forth coming so they had to blend in earth's society. Was funny when they had Paul Simon's Kodachrome. David Spade was excellent as the manipulating human.
