I saw an SNL retrospective, and Norm was talking about his Burt Reynolds impression. He did this version of Burt because it was his favorite. He said that Burt got a kick out of it and was going to come out as a surprise and act even stupider, but Norm was fired before it happened.
I love Norm’s Burt Reynolds because he doesn’t know (or care) where he is, or what he’s supposed to be doing. My favorite is when he requests non-existent categories for absurd dollar amounts and then ignores Trebek’s response. 😆
I showed these to my mother a few years back and she wouldn't believe that this was Norm and not Reynolds. She passed away 3 yrs ago so when i watch these it's so bittersweet.
From what Norm's said, that was intentional as kind of an F you to SNL for firing him so he decided if he can't play Burt there anymore, he'd just do the act somewhere else.
For some reason the "Hey, look at this 😏👇" in the beginning took me tf out 😂. I'm honestly so mad I stumbled across Norm after his passing.. RIP to a real legend, man.
That guy in the audience - his laugh. He must work at SNL as a writer. I've heard him laughing off camera before. Steve Higgins is a Great one to listen to for off camera laughs at SNL!
Being the culturally clueless person that I am my only reference for what Burt Reynolds sounds like is Charlie from All Dogs Go To Heaven, and Norm sounds exactly like him!

The whole point of Norms impression was to capture Burt as he was at his peak in the 1970s. I don’t think he was on Friends but a guest spot on some sitcom wouldn’t even be in Burt’s Top 20 things.
