Got to meet Reeve when he was filming in Boston. As a lifelong comic fan, meeting Superman was a great experience. But Reeve was also one of the nicest folks I ever met.
I have to believe that in casting him, part of the deal was that this guy is going to have to have a nice personality to play Superman. That he will be charming to the media and the public, which he was all the way.
Cool. I saw an interview with him about how it was to work with Marlon Brando, whom Reeve admired as an actor and with whom, as a young unknown, he was looking forward to working. He said Brando was a complete ungenerous prick. I think being decent to people was part of Reeve's life.
One of the few times I've heard of anyone meeting Reeve pre-accident in which he wasn't a horrible person. Most first hand accounts place him as being one of the most smug, impolite assholes of all time when the cameras weren't on him. There were people who hated him so much that they said his accident was karma.
Tom Welling was a great fit too, imo. Even though he never got to wear the actual suit. Brandon Routh fit pretty good. (just the movie bombed) But yeah Christopher Revve is the BEST fit.
That’s Rich Hall, my doppelgänger. He published the Sniglets books. Words that don’t exist but should. His best sketch was the supermarket door mats that he attached to his shoes.
That’s how loaded the ‘84-85 season was. This is basically that season’s B team on display but Kroeger, Hall, Belushi, and JLD were outstanding and very capable when given good material. There were loads of brilliant sketches that season and this is one of the best.
Honestly, and especially Hall, Kroeger and JLD would have fit right in a few years later when Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman were killing it. Super underrated performers. This season was a gem. It's too bad Brad Hall wasn't around for it, because he was on par with these guys as well.
The comedic structure on catching the bullet was just incredible. Subvert the first expectation by firing a real bullet, then subvert that by having the regular guy catch one, then subvert THAT by having the tryhard die.

Christopher Reeve was truly the best Superman ever. No person can ever be Superman as perfectly as Christopher Reeve. Christophere Reeve stood 6'4" just like Superman, and had the same weight, and the exact same type of look. His voice was perfect, too.
@@markv.5962 See, this is the stuff that makes me believe in the theory of the "multiverse" with an infinite number of parallel dimensions. I see that at "this" point in time, you are correct it shows Superman stood 6' 3" tall. However, this was something I had previously looked up in the past. I previously saw Superman was 6' 4" tall. This is not the first time this has happened. For example, Donald Trump originally showed up as 6' 2" tall. But now he shows up as 6'3" tall and claims to be 6' 3" tall. Jeb Bush also previously showed up as 6' 4" tall, but now he shows up as 6' 3" tall. There is one BIG problem, though. If you saw the debates from 2016, you could clearly see Jeb Bush was about two inches taller than Trump. So, the thought of 6' 2" for Trump and 6' 4" for Jeb Bush made sense. Anyone who saw those debates knows they are not both the same height. of 6' 3" tall.
More than his Subs i love the interpretation of Reeve‘s Clark Kent. Routh or Cavill were Superman with glasses! His Clark was the totally opposite of Superman. Another character. So well done! ❤
Typical of New York and Hollywood entertainment big wigs.. too busy with "the show" to be bothered with anything mundane like someone bleeding out on the floor.
So my friend grew up in Manhattan. He was 6 yrs old when Superman with Christopher Reeve came out in the theaters. My friends mom took him to see Superman. There was a really intense bully who would always intimidate him and sometime hurt him. One day he was in a A&P getting some candy and he looked up and saw Christopher Reeve in a sweater and glasses looking just like Clark Kent. Chris smiling, winked at him, bought some stuff, and left. My friend was jaw dropped the whole time. Superman not only lived in his neighborhood, but had his back! The next week, that bully approached him to bully him. Knowing Superman would obviously come and save him, he cold cocked the bully, jumped on him, and beat him until the bully begged him to stop. The bully never messed with my friend or his friends again. I wish Christopher Reeve could have been told that story.
That's interesting. There's a bully storyline in Superman 2. I wonder if that's what inspired him specifically or maybe someone from the film did hear about it? ;)
Christopher Reeve is and always will be Superman. He was the embodiment of him both on and off the screen. He was everything that a hero was supposed to be. He understood that.
Christopher Reeve was sent here in a small space ship to play that role. He was discovered in a field in Kansas by an older couple before going to Juliard Acting School and getting the part.
As a Chilean I miss Chris a lot he was really concerned about Chile situación during the Pinochet's dictatorship, he went to my country to solidarize with our people, thanks Chris for your concerning and friendship... You were a true Superman.

I was six. I don’t watch Superman movies anymore. Even though I know that it was a role that many other actors played before him, and many others since, I just can’t get it out of my head that (with all due respect to their talents), they are just not The Real Superman. Always feel sad when I hear the name Christopher Reeve.
I was only 3 when Superman came out. But, what Christopher Reeves had was the ability to genuinely act shy and timid as Clark Kent and without effort was able to turn on the confidence and charisma of Superman leaving you with the feeling of having witnessed a real life man of steel
Jim Belushi was highly underrated during his tenure on SNL. I thought he was effing hilarious. So happy to see his modern-day success. It speaks to what type of person he is. As well as his partner Dan Aykroyd. MUCH LOVE!😊
Christopher Reeve was a great talent and performed the role with a nice blend of action and humor. What is especially memorable about him is the grace and dignity he showed after his accident. One very remarkable man! May you rest in peace.
@@josephedric4081 not even close. As Superman he is good. As Clark, he sucks. With Reeves...he was really good as Superman, perfect as Clark..and amazing acting completely different with the two.... just watch him in part 2 in the hotel room where he transforms from Clark to Superman in am instant, Henry can't pull that off.
I met Christopher Reeve after his accident at his book signing for “Still Me.” His wife Dana had pre-signed all the books prior. I didn’t see her though. He asked my name, and I introduced myself and explained how I was a huge fan and how I donated to the Reeve-Irvine foundation. Had a major crush on him since I was a kid. I admired him so much. His courage and ability to calm a young woman’s nerves meeting her super hero. :)
I was gonna comment on Chris too. I changed my mind. This is one of the funniest SNL sketches I have watched; maybe the funniest. I was on assignment in Denmark when this came out, so I am only catching it now. Thank you for having this up. What a genuine blast this must have been.

i have nothing against henry cavil but reeves performance simply defined what we think of superman. his calmn, stern, but kindhearted demeanor as superman and the stammering loveable doofus of clark is just perfect that i cant help but feel good at the thought of it. in my mind he wasnt the BEST superman, he WAS superman
I admire Henry as well, but Christopher will always be the Superman, people deserve. Now, as he moves on from the role that's memorable on the stoplight from him, I am absolutely excited to see his chemistry with Millie Bobby Brown in Sherlock Holmes's sister Enola.
I totally agree, maverick. As you say, we tend to forget how good he was as a lovably bumbling Clark Kent, too. That first Superman movie is just fun fun fun.
He just has that perfect, calm "Superman charisma", and is able to perfectly portray a self-confident guy who knows no one can hurt/kill him, yet can also perfectly portray a clumsy guy who can't help his clumsiness.
Christopher Reeves can never be replaced as superman he was so sincere as superman and as Clark.. gene hackman will slays be lex luther to me and Terrance stamp will always be general zod
he was a perfect pick for Superman, just like Lynda Carter was a no brainer for Wonderwoman, Adam West was an amazing Batman, etc. They did pick them good back then. We have great cast now for many of the heros, but you can't deny that those 3 were amazing originals.
Chris was great in anything he did but my fave movies Chris did was 'Some Where In Time & when he did the remake of Rear Window. It proves to me that not only unbelievably talented he was but also that he never gave up. A lesson for all of us to learn. He also had a remarkable loving & careing wife & kids. They should have margot kidder. But unfortunately didnt turn up.
Though to be honest, while Mr. Reeve always looked like a superMAN, he never really looked the part of a SUPERman...
N'way, Rich Hall was the best.
@fu ck but why?? Is he in hell??
Got to meet Reeve when he was filming in Boston. As a lifelong comic fan, meeting Superman was a great experience. But Reeve was also one of the nicest folks I ever met.
da Bunnyman thanks. Glad he was a good guy and not a prick like some stories you hear.
Very cool
I love Jim Belushi. Feel like he doesn't get enough love and credit sometimes. Loved K-911 and According To Jim.
He's also fantastic in Mr. Destiny.
And in The Principal
Yes. Whenever he would get to yell in a sketch or movie scene, he just made me laugh out loud.
Just watched him in Taking Care of Business last week. Such a underrated film.
He was great in the movie with Arnold
4:22 the way belushi drinks coffee after shooting the guy dead is actually pretty hysterical
It was nothing but an inconvenience
Christopher Reeve will always be the one and ONLY Superman!! This is why after over 40 years nobody else can ever fit that role!!
Well, Henry Cavill took over nicely.
@@jondunmore4268 He could've but they forced to be emo
Uh no. No he did not.
Tom Welling was a great fit too, imo. Even though he never got to wear the actual suit.
Brandon Routh fit pretty good. (just the movie bombed)
But yeah Christopher Revve is the BEST fit.
@@jondunmore4268 Henry Cavill lacks the charisma to be Superman.
The second guy caught the whole bullet with his teeth, I mean with the case and all.. Not just the projectile :D
That’s Rich Hall, my doppelgänger. He published the Sniglets books. Words that don’t exist but should.
His best sketch was the supermarket door mats that he attached to his shoes.
I didnt notice, good catch!
Christopher Reeves will always be Superman. !!!
No he won’t. Christopher REEVE is.
Christopher Reeve was the first Superman I saw on the big screen. He will always be the best Superman.
How do you not mention Julie louis Dreyfuss(Elaine from Seinfeld)?!
ditto
i think this the only skit she appeared in the whole time she was on the cast. she has stated that all but 1 of her skits got cut
You think this is why Jerry subconsciously picked Julia when the Seinfeld producers decided that they needed to add a woman to the cast after the pilot?
Because her name is Julia, not Julie.
@@THEChancell0r1 you mean Julia Luis-Dreyfus? It's a RUclips comment. It's not like it's something permanent like a star on the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame or anything...
www.today.com/id/36951082/ns/today-today_entertainment/t/seinfeld-actress-tickled-walk-fame-typo/
Christopher Reeve made me believe a man could fly. ❤️
Lies again? Audacity Module
But not catch bullets, his technique needs work
And let's not forget Julia Louise- Dreyfus, how is, you know... also there the whole time. Adding her in the description would have been a nice touch.
I did not recognize her at all, thank You!
She was not integral to the description of the sketch.
@@Fardawg She was involved in nearly every line.
@@Fardawg How was every man integral but not her?
Was thinking the same thing.
Christopher Reeve ruined Superman.
He did it by proving that nobody else could be Superman.
Long live the legend!
True that
Haha u got me on that
Reeve
Here’s a couple of idioms that’ll help you remember.
Christopher Reeve - the S is on his chest.
or
There’s only one s each in George Reeves and Christopher Reeve.
Christopher Reeve was such a great talent and the truest Man of Steel ever. So sad about his fate after
hollyvelocitygrl I agree
Yes, very sad. Being born in the 70´s he is superman for me.
You are absolutely right, Holly Velocity.
I've never seen this before and it was a joy to see both Chris and Jim together.
That was Jim Belushi.
Thank You for making me Believe a Man Can Fly, from the bottom of my Heart.
This is how I like to remember Christopher Reeves he didn't act like a star he was a star...
I hadn't thought of him for a long time. It is nice to see him like this. It was so sad when he had the fall from his horse and broke his neck.
Gotta punctuate, Tony.
Loved Chris Reeve in Somewhere in Time. Gone too soon.
That was my favorite film he was in. What a tear jerker.
Same here.
Yes, with Jane Seymour. I love that movie. Can't believe it was 1980.
Loved that movie too
EVERY time I hear the music used in the film, I cry and cry and cry.
I remember I showed my Grandmother this SNL with Christopher Reeve and she loved it and would watch it over the years 🥰🥰
16 years later, and I'm still not over his death. He was the first live action Superman for me, and still the best one.
"I also want to dedicate this award to a dear friend of mine. Chris Reeve, I miss you. And may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest sweet prince"- Robin Williams 2005
LMFAO When Jim Belushi pulled that gun out and shot it, much like Chris Reeves, I WASN'T READY!!! 😂 😂 😂 💀 💀 💀
It's crazy that Superman himself came to audition for the role.
and nearly missed to get the role!
But he couldn't control his powers. The other guy had all the powers of superman and he knew how to use them!
He did get some luck though. That cocky fcker dying and other dudes commitments.
@@neiljohnson7914 Too bad about that scheduling conflict though, huh? Still, we have that to thank for getting the Superman we ended up with.
Gotta hide in plain sight!
R.I.P. Christopher Reeves. The greatest Superman to ever put on the cape.
"I was practicing with my roommate." By the way, that roommate was Robin Williams
That is so cool!
Christopher Reeve was truly the best Superman ever. No person can ever be Superman as perfectly as Christopher Reeve. Christophere Reeve stood 6'4" just like Superman, and had the same weight, and the exact same type of look. His voice was perfect, too.
actually superman was 6ft 3 inches look it up
@@markv.5962 See, this is the stuff that makes me believe in the theory of the "multiverse" with an infinite number of parallel dimensions.
Good call on mentioning his voice. I think his voice has been severely overlooked. I'm glad to see that you mentioned it.
More than his Subs i love the interpretation of Reeve‘s Clark Kent. Routh or Cavill were Superman with glasses! His Clark was the totally opposite of Superman. Another character. So well done! ❤
Chris reeves and Tom Welling
R.I.P. Christopher Reeve
Unfortunately he’s gone. 😢 But he always the best Superman Ever.
Life is sometimes very hard with good people... rest in peace dear Christopher.
I keep laughing that they shot the guy and just carried on with him dead on the floor. Hilarious!
I thought the same.
Like the mafia/ Sopranos
His best acting!
He was superman. The teenaged version in the film
That's a beautiful story. The truth is Christopher Reeve probably inspired millions of boys around the world to be heroes.
@@nerychristian "... to beat up bullies." What might have been. 😉
What a great story👍
That's interesting. There's a bully storyline in Superman 2. I wonder if that's what inspired him specifically or maybe someone from the film did hear about it? ;)
Christopher Reeve is and always will be Superman. He was the embodiment of him both on and off the screen. He was everything that a hero was supposed to be. He understood that.
That was one of the best acting like you were shot performances I have seen. Great job Gary Kroeger!
Many have said it already, but I'm saying it, too... Christopher Reeve is *THE BEST* Superman!
George Reeves was better
But he can't catch a bullet, can't fly, can't convert coal into diamond, can't blow down a fire. They had to use special effects bc he lacked skills.
@@louistournas120 But George Reeves did not allow Lois Lane to be more masculine than Superman.
It's so great! I've never seen it before and it's kind of sad because Christopher's death, but He'll be the best Superman forever.
Christopher Reeve was sent here in a small space ship to play that role. He was discovered in a field in Kansas by an older couple before going to Juliard Acting School and getting the part.
I was at the studio for this rehearsal. Met all the cast. Personal tour by Belushi. I was ten. Over winter break. My teacher never believed me lol
It's not about you, Maurice. If you need attention make a crayon drawing for mommy.
Sure...
Wasn’t trying to brag. Was nostalgic. My uncle Nate Herman was a writer for SNL. Guess haters gotta hate... 44 yo now.

Christopher Reeve stands at 6'4" and RIP Christopher "Superman " Reeve and I miss him dearly because he's so missed by all of us fans who remember him for the role of Superman in the 1970's and 1980's

I was six. I don’t watch Superman movies anymore. Even though I know that it was a role that many other actors played before him, and many others since, I just can’t get it out of my head that (with all due respect to their talents), they are just not The Real Superman. Always feel sad when I hear the name Christopher Reeve.
Big facts!
I was six years, or maybe 5 depending on when the movie was in theatres.
I was only 3 when Superman came out. But, what Christopher Reeves had was the ability to genuinely act shy and timid as Clark Kent and without effort was able to turn on the confidence and charisma of Superman leaving you with the feeling of having witnessed a real life man of steel
Stuck on a loop watching the opening scenes, particularly the death stare Reeves directs at the obsequious compliments and fake laugh
Truly gifted and genuine man
The world is a poorer place without him.
RIP Super man.
Love and blessing from Wolverhampton England to you all.
@john anderson They don't have screen stars like him anymore.
Like yourself I was enthralled with him majestic presence.
Best line in the skit. "We've ah narrowed it down to you two."
Christopher Reeve, the one and only true superman
Jim Belushi was highly underrated during his tenure on SNL. I thought he was effing hilarious. So happy to see his modern-day success. It speaks to what type of person he is. As well as his partner Dan Aykroyd. MUCH LOVE!😊

What a brilliant sketch. Never had seen this before
Wow, this was so awesome! So well written, so funny, so unexpected. Brilliant.
He destroyed the role, because nobody will ever hold a candle to him.
Henry Cavill is just as good and maybe even better. He's just hasn't been in the best movies.
@@Kevin-tz2lv It's called direction. Reeve (No S) had Donner and Cavill had Snyder.

John Borowski Reeve
By far.
How wonderful!
