The original cast was the absolute best.
Yup....every year after that was just a little bit....not sure the words....Cheaper, dumber, more ghetto, more........sucky!!
And always will be the best
Except for Chase.
@@alkohallick2901 Agree! That guy was/is really talentless. Tried to make a career out of trip/falling?.....NO!, just NO!
It's been downhill ever since
The golden age of SNL. What a cast! It just doesn't get any better than this!
only thing better is if we couldve had belushi and farley at the same time- OMG!
@@tommurphy4307Samurai visits his close friend “Who lives in a van DOWN BY THE RIVER!”.
The golden age of racism, bigotry and misogynism. Wonderful isn't it....
Just one skit like this shows you how far not only comedy but all the arts have tanked.
Tony you want to dance
For the love of God, keep that sword away from the Juice.
Lol, good one
💯😮😮
Belushi doing Travolta as the Samurai, opposite OJ Simpson, in front of a poster of Farrah Fawcett. How much more 70s could this be? None. None more 70s.
You forgot to add Pre-Stabby OJ.
This sketch goes up to eleven.
Even my Nephew had that poster of Farrah.
I had a Farrah poster too. Used to stay up to watch SNL back then. That original cast is legendary.
If they could've thrown in some Star Wars jokes.........
Im 65, who ever thought we'd miss the 70s?! Today blows.
Same here buddy.
One yr up on u and yep you're right. 70s in the Bronx there was nothing like it. ✌️
R.I.P to the legendary John Belushi. He was comedic royalty.
And Gilda !
Never forget Gilda! r. i. p.
May her memory be a blessing
Without question, by far the best cast ever on snl. Period.
Except for the cold blooded killer
Those were some good times even without Jmmy " JJ " Walker.
It was fun watching this show live, when it first started!
racism, bigotry and misogynism really that rates highly with you?
@@Me4-gc8qs Hopefully you are up to date on your booster shots!!.... We need more people like you (woke puppets) to lead by example!! Thank you
Belushi's biggest talent was his ability to keep a straight face despite all the nonsense he was doing or surrounded with.
Which is not little talent at all!
like on the ladder in Animal House, when he looks back at the camera and does his eyebrow thing.
@@jimmashek6455 Exactly! Nothing has ever made me laugh so much as when looking at John Belushi's face (not to mention when he wore that Roman dress at the party.) Sometimes his mere presence was enough to laugh, and the fact you didn't know what crazy antics he had in store for you. A true genious!

Plus, eating spaghetti and meatballs with chopsticks!
I didn't know that I needed to see Belushi dance to Staying Alive as a Samurai. But I definitely did!
This video may have cured my depression
Yea, It tells you a lot about Brooklyn.
I know that I needed it then and still do!
"Well, you may not be the only bad boy around here soon." Prophetic words from OJ.

The Late Great Don Pardo was the announcer and he lived to be 90! What a great voice!
He lived longer than 90. He lived to the ripe old age of 96 years old!!!!!!!!!!!
Shout-out to the actor who played Fr. Guido Sarducci making a cameo. He was one of my old faves. SNL was so innovative when it hit the airwaves.
I thought that was Don Novello, aka Father Guido Sarducci, sitting at the table! I’ve been watching his videos the last few weeks! Too funny! 🤣🤣🤣
I absolutely loved Guido Sarducci! Arrivederci, America!
"You may not be the only bad boy around here soon" I love the fact that Guido Sarducci is in this & not as a priest.
“•This• is the life! To be young, stupid, and have no future at all . . . I love Brooklyn!”
One of the great SNL lines!
until, yo, I'm gonna be somebody. philli
My wife is Japanese and the kimono Belushi is wearing is for an unmarried female. Ignorance is bliss!
@@grimreefer8561 or done on purpose.
Or the line from the college dean in Animal House--fat drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son
I love that line! Aykroyd killed it in this scene. The line and his goofy facial expression when he says it. Timeless.
And Belushi was definitely 'the shit'! 😂👍
I don't know how they managed to keep straight faces while doing these scenes. I would have cracked up long ago... Belushi is hilarious 😂
I was 17 when I saw this movie in a Long Island theatre in Christmas 1977. The Italian kids I went to high school with went WILD at the opening shot of Travolta walking down the street.
As an Italian American, but also a West Virginia hillbilly, this cracks me up. I can envision some of my big city cousins reacting like that. Thank you for sharing, Mr. Birkett. Respect and Blessings from Wild Wonderful West Virginia. 🙏
I was 17 in 1977, too. The movie theatre was packed, not one empty seat when Saturday Night Fever came out. I remember watching this exact episode on SNL when it originally aired. Always loved Belushi doing the samurai skits. Where did the years go??? 🤷🏾♀️
@Jim McCracken I grew up in a village on the south shore of Long Island full of middle and working class folks: Italians, Jews, Irish and blacks. My closest friend in high school was Italian.
@Jim McCracken I welcome your friendship. Many fond memories, including the disco dances in high school. SNL was insanely popular back then, much more so than today. BTW a lot of the mobsters in Goodfellas, including Henry Hill, lived nearby; I know many of the locations in the film and remember the Lufthansa heist at JFK in 1978.
@Jim McCracken life wasn't perfect back then, I don't want others reading this to misconstrue, but compared to today it is literally nite and day. The division, the hate, the ignorance, the envy, greed and selfishness is extremely disappointing. They existed back then too but not where I grew up and never this extreme.
"You may not be the only bad boy around here soon". Lol,such prophetic words.
If only they knew what was to come 16 years later
Yeah, very rare
I spit my drink all over myself when he said that!
I was thinking the same thing
Wuddu duuu
Alroyd, Belushi, and Murray, all in the same skit. Genius and classic SNL!
And GIlda! AND FATHER GUDIO!!

"Young, stupid, and have no future at all"...excellent quote
The original cast of SNL were the best! Coked up comedy writers and comedians coming up with great original funny stuff!
I was a 15,and I watched the first episode and was hooked!
Really? Wish i could see what you saw. I like belushi and murray...but none of these jokes are landing
John Belushi, and the SNL cast at that time, were geniuses.
They really were. When he died they should have just folded.

It's tragic that he always surrounded himself with white ppl.
He had an astounding career in football.
His Dream Team got him off unbelievably innocent. Luckily, the Goldman family got him convicted in their civil suit. Now the Juice is Loose. You don't hear about him anymore, but he's definitely living a comfortably secret life for sure.

He was acquitted. By a jury of 9 blacks, 1 Hispanic and 2 whites.

Watching Belushi manage his top knot was glorious.
It's November 2022 and I laughed as hard as I laughed when I was a kid and watched it in 1978.
Even Travolta couldn't't match Belushi's dance moves
Great skit!Long live the legacy of John Belushi!
Watched this live back as a kid in the 6th grade .. I don't know how Murray kept a straight face ... so cherished .. thanks
For those who are unaware, John Belushi was the first choice for the role of Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters but he died just before production. For me, that's always been a major "what could have been" moment in history.
Love these Samurai sketches. Belushi was a comic genius.
RIP John. So talented. So missed.
Wow amazingly great. I did not see this back when. One cool thing I noticed--Don Novello sitting with Dan Aykoyd. Must be pre-Father Guido Sarducci.
O.J. was really eyeing that blade…
Has everyone forgot about John. 42 years ago
This First Generation of SNL (1974 - 1980) was so Good that NBC showed Episodes on Prime Time in the Late 70´s.
I used to stay up late as a kid just to watch SNL because it was the funniest show on TV back then.
Belushi dancing in a white Samurai costume had me in stitch’s. Still hilarious after all these years. The original show was so damn funny.
Yes!! It’s the only thing I wanted to watch on tv!! There will never be another cast like there was at this particular time. Just classic
When SNL was a rerun, we'd watch "The Midnight Special". Hosted by Wolfman Jack and Helen Reddy

At 61 I thought I'd seen every Belushi SNL skit.
John Belushi was a national treasure, he left us too soon.
My favorite Samurai skit. John dances. It has OJ. WOW.
Description says "John Belushi takes a stab at Saturday Night Fever" and then OJ appears. No pun intended ?
Then shut up!
lol
SNL in its prime. What talent! Look at what they could do with just 7 Not Ready for Prime Time Players instead of the 17 cast members they use now. Belushi was a master at his craft. Plus a cleverly written premise with 3 separate complete sets in one sketch. Ultimate irony....OJ as a priest!
Gilda Radner was a genius . So sad that she left us so soon. Well, so sad for all that have left us Belushi and the rest ~ ~ ~ Sorely missed.
So sad OJ had to die for that double-homicide. Oh, wait ...
💯💯💯
Thank you for mentioning Gilda Radner, she was so hilarious in many of these classic SNL skits. I was made doubly sad when her husband and comedy film legend Gene Wilder passed a few years back. They are sorely missed. May their memory be a blessing.
Finally!!! I'm watching the classic Samurai Night Fever !!!!

That could work...
Father Guido Sarducci out of costume was great.
Lol! I knew I recognized that guy but couldn't place him!😂
Nice & Smooth !

So special a time that we just thought was just another day
Thank You for that trip down memory lane.
This was the first SNL skit I ever watched. The "not ready for prime time players" blew up that season and they made history. RIP John Belushi.
Yeah. and r. i. p. Gilda Radner
May their memory be a blessing
They were so funny back then. It brings back memories of such a great time
I'd come around to believing a stuntman did "Joliet Jake's" backflips and cartwheels down the center aisle of the "Triple Rock Baptist Church" in "The Blues Brothers". But now watching Belushi bust his moves on the dance floor in this sketch, I've circled back to believing he probably did that all himself.
Dang!
Yep, John B. Was one heck of an athlete, I couldn't believe it either the things he did in blues brothers, guy was a football player in hi School but his talents far surpass mere team sports!
John also did back flips when he & Danny were the "musical guests" on SNL back then. The show was live-can't fake that on a live show! He was an athlete in high school in my home town. This was one of my all time favorite skits of his! So much talent in 1 skit! I thought up a few jokes about the samurai sword & OJ--but they probably wouldn't get printed!
One night in Nassau in 1980, Belushi went on stage with the Grateful Dead for their encore, US Blues. And yes, he did a couple of cartwheels.
John Belushi was great! The seventies were magical. I miss those days in America.
John Travolta was the scheduled host and left everybody hanging on Saturday night. O.J. saved the show last minute and did a monologue almost 20 minutes long ( wearing a conehead!)while the writers furiously rewrote the show. True story.
I Wanna know ANYONE ELSE who could eat Spaghetti with Chopsticks besides Belushi! lol
What a talent! He made the whole world laugh until we cried.
Then he left us and we cried until we could laugh again.
He was just passing thru, staying just long enough to remind us just how absurd it all is, so laugh, enjoy, burn bright, and exit, stage right, before it becomes boring. I'm, just glad I was here to see it all first hand. There will never be anyone ever like him. And, there never should be.
Agreed 👍
He has a brother you know? Lol 😂 😎😎
Yeah John Belushi was the best! 🕺🏼👘🗡🤺🍝💃🏻👯

Too bad we lost John Belushi too soon. He was so dang talented and funny
Funny way back in the 70's & still funny now.

Still the best after all these years. Those were the years we could all laugh out loud and mean it.!
Ya and no one needed to be “canceled “ for simply making a joke
Boo fucking hoo.

This is the very first bit I ever saw on SNL. I had stayed up late one night while at my grandparents and this came on the TV. I was not quite 12 and was hooked.
Hey, oh!!! Murray's Italian accent is on point!!!!
@Roger Hammond , what's so funny? As an Italian myself, I found Murray's to be accurate. Are you commenting about the usage of " on point", or you disagree with me saying Murray's accent was believable?
better is belushi smothering japanese and italian together.

These sketches are meta on so many levels. Belushi's Samurai character was based on a character portrayed by Toshiro Mifune in Akira Kurosawa's film Yojimbo. Then he adapts it to topical scenarios with hilarious results. Belushi's comic genius never fails to astonish me.
And OJ killed some white people with a knife!
