WOW, watching this video reminded me my mom used to make these a lot with applesauce on the side! I am definitely going to make this! Thanks for the memories!
I think we'd be best friends lol.. Imma southern girl too but was never really taught how to cook many things so here I am trying to learn (@54yrs) because it's too expensive nowadays to eat out. Thank you for your channel and for the bites (even though sometimes I think you are just teasing all of us with a spoonful of food)
Amen! Me too although a tad older than you. We were Yankees who moved to the South. My best friend and I would trade houses on Sunday - she’d get French bread pizza and I’d get an old-fashioned southern Sunday dinner with homemade biscuits, venison, okra, mashed potatoes. We’d shell peas and pick corn from their enormous garden, but I never learned to cook any of it until much later.
Looks delicious. Thank you for sharing. Lately, I've been making a lot of potato pancakes and regular pancakes. Having adopted an off grid lifestyle, I no longer call them "griddle cakes," but rather I refer to them as "off griddle cakes." 😊
Just like mom made for me when I little, I'm 60 now and mom has passed. I'm going to make this for breakfast tomorrow morning and have fond memories of her. Thank you.
This was one of the few things my great grandmother made that was decent lol. She passed away a couple months ago but wasn't able to cook for the last couple of years. I was thinking about them today. Thanks for sharing!
We’d eat ours with ketchup - like tater tots. But whatever you add to the recipe just find something to compliment. My mom made these from a family recipe book (she was born in New Orleans) and she’d add cheese, crumbled sausage, or anything else from the “leftover bowl” in the fridge. Anything she didn’t use went into a stock pot with broth or pasta sauce to make soup.
Once again you nailed it with your way of cooking it's simple and fast, since you give measurements as you cook It makes your recipe easy to follow being we can cook as we watch . l will be making your potato cakes with pork chops and a vegetable for dinner tonight with some apple sauce on the side. Thank you for this easy recipe!
I'm really grateful fr this, but i have one question, do you have to use Mazola oil? can you use like olive oil? im not that big of a cook so i just wanna know :)
If I were you I would not use olive oil because I think it would add a stronger taste to the recipe. Probably any milder tasting oil such as corn oil or canola oil. Hope this helps and enjoy your cooking. It gets easier with time. These videos on RUclips are very helpful!
I was raised eating these. My mom would whip them up often! I’ve made them using instant mashed potatoes many times as my family loves them for breakfast topped with fried egg over medium. Good stuff. Though I do season mine a little more w and fry w a pat or two per cake of real butter! 😁..
Young lady, your husband is a blessed man as am I with my wife , i am 61 yoa, very nice recipe these look delicious, God Bless you all & Merry Christmas
Looks delicious! My husband's Mamaw in WV used to make potato cakes when she had leftover mashed potatoes too. Are you from WV too? I like your accent!
Potato pancakes are NOT American in origin. They are European, and NOT made with mashed potatoes. The potatoes are shredded. Do some research on Polish or Slovak potato pancakes. Much better!!
I love how it takes an American to tell me how to make British food 😂 all ingredients pages I've seen is then bragging on about their lives and stuff and can't find a proper recipe for it. Thank you for this video!
Thanks for sharing. My dad made these and he passed away not long ago. I will try this recipe and try my best for him! Thanks so much 🥔🤎
Love potato pancakes!😋😋😋
FOR SUNDAY'S ST PATRICK DAY, A VERY EASY AND PRACTICAL DISH. 🤗
I made Colcannon Potatoes tonight for tomorrow, so using some of that to make the pancakes for St. Patrick’s Day morning’s breakfast. ☘️
WOW, watching this video reminded me my mom used to make these a lot with applesauce on the side! I am definitely going to make this! Thanks for the memories!
I hope you enjoy them as much as we do. I love the old ways of cooking. Thank YOU for watching! 😊
These remind me of my Grams potato pancakes, she always use to make with her leftover mashed potatoes!❤
You can substitute some instant flakes. I've had diced onions in them, too. Looks great!

Hi Joyce! Thank YOU for watching! 😊
Looks good. How would you modify if you wanted to bake them rather than fry them?
Thank you so much! 😊 I would maybe brush a coat of butter or corn oil in your sheet pan. Then bake on both sides until brown.
My mom would always make these for me. ❤❤❤ Need to send this to my wife ASAP. 😬
Thank you. I believe that is the first potato pancake recipe that I will be able to remember. I’m going to use it the day after Thanksgiving.
Just like my mom taught me to make some 60 years ago... Sooo good...
Exactly what I was looking for
Wunderbar, das sieht sehr lecker und knusprig aus. Danke fürs Teilen und Alles Gute! 🙂🍀
thank you, I've been wondering how to keep them from falling apart once I got them in the skillet, The flour does the trick. Thanks again👍👍👍.
The only thing I would do different, would be to add chopped onions, into the mixture. We love them this way ❤
Big fans of potato cakes and perogies, no better way to use leftover mashed potatoes 😋.
They look absolutely georgus !!! and just the right size for holding mmmmnn !😜
Great video and love your personality. Love the spatula.
They look pretty good! What type of sauce if any, would you use with it?
I don't use a sauce for mine cause they're just that good. But you could use whatever you'd prefer. Thank you for watching! 😊

You are so welcome! Blessings to you too! 😊
These look great. I will try them, but will use butter or coconut oil to fry. Thanks!

🤤
Woof! Those look good! My mother also served these (like this) with some white chicken gravy, just the way I liked. 😊👍
I add cheese to mine so good.
💙💙💙
YUMMMMM!!! 😋
My mother used to add onions either onion flakes or diced green onions. Better than tater tots.
100% better! 🤤
Your recipe is very nice. Eager to cook. Looking lovely. 👌🏼👌🏼😊 Love from Mumbai, lndia. 🌹😊♥️

Hi Jacqueline! How did they turn out?
@@HowDoYouCookBackToBasics super delicious! My teen daughter loves them...we ate them with Spanish cream something similar as sour cream 👌🥰
@@jacquelinemarroquin1686 Thank you for letting me know! I’m glad you enjoyed them. 😊
I wasn’t hungry until I seen this video. I’m on the way to the kitchen.
Every other video..... avocado or anything fancy & expensive.
Her....grabs the Mazzola......😊
Can you use instant potatoes?
Thanks
Can you make these with the powdered mashed potato mix?
You could. But they won't taste nearly as good.
Hi! You could make mashed potatoes and try it. The taste will probably be different than the real thing. Try it.
Good job 👏 👍
Thank you so much 😀
I could smell it all the way to Canada.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm🥰🤪🤪🤪
Love them.❤️
I am going in the kitchen and cook some right now. 😊
How did they turn out for you?
👍 Gonna try but without the eggs
Add cheese inside and serve with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce...
🤤🤤
Have never used egg but add onions and garlic/spices,
I add mayo n garlic n Celtic salt n pink salt to my mashed taters.
I've never used mashed potatoes for the pancakes... I usually shred the potatoes lol...
You can thaw out the frozen kind too. Make good ones ❤🙏❤️
Wish this little firecracker was my nieghbor. Bet her kitchen smells fantastic!
