This is an excellent comparison video!!! I am considering purchasing the foil quill to use with my silhouette and wasn’t sure if I needed to buy the starter kit or if I could use with foils I already have in my stash!! This answers all of my questions!!! Thanks so much for taking the time testing these products!! So helpful!!
Heather King - I'm so glad that the video was helpful for you! It's awesome that the Foil Quill works so well with a number of the foils on the market. :)
Marnasuegma - It's my pleasure! And thank you for your video about filling shapes for better results with the Foil Quill. It was really helpful. My fill results haven't been great, and I'll definitely be trying out that fill method.
Thank you excellent video - I had no success either with the deco foils (which I have heaps of in my stash) from earlier ways of foiling - but I could not get it to work either!!!! Sad about that!!! But your video was very helpful thank you
Sue Smith - It really is too bad about the Deco Foils not working with the Foil Quill, but I love them for the laser printer / laminator method of foiling!
Deco foil needs a medium to stick to not heat. The heat from a laminator heats up the medium used (like toner) and the foil sticks to the medium. The glimmer foils, todo brand, WRMK brand, foil press and others have adhesive on the back of the foil that is activated by the heat allowing it to stick to the paper. Hope this helps 😁
Im amazed you got any of the minc foil to transfer as it doesnt have toner. For the glimmer one, did it leave tiny foil specs on the black paper like the foil quill foil does?
MrsB8T - I was also surprised that the Minc foil transferred. The results with the standard tip aren't that great, but the results with the fine tip are actually pretty good. Doing a second pass definitely made a difference. The Glimmer foil and the other heat transfer type foils do leave tiny foil specks on the black paper. I can brush most of it off, but there are always a few glittery bits here and there.
I am using a Cricut Explore and the bold tip, dark blue. I purchased some Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil and it looks terrible! What am I doing wrong? The foil by WRM came out perfect.
Glennis, thanks for sharing! I've been hearing good things about the couture creations foil and really want to try it out. Hope your results with the Minc foil / fine tip combo are as good as mine have been. :)
😯you didn't test Couture Creations foil? I think I have mine upside down. ..it's counter intuitive 😐. .lets see this time!! You were a great help tho! At least I can get to foil that will work. .well now..tx!!!!
Donna Pierce - When I made this video, I wasn't too familiar with the Couture Creations foil but have since tried it out and love the results that I'm getting with it. Here's a video where I use one of the Couture Creations foils for a Foil Quill project : ruclips.net/video/ey2pgfheajA/видео.html
Is it just my imagination, or are the results within each type of foil a bit crisper and coverage a little better on the black stock than on the white? Obviously, the machine doesn't "know" what color is being used, so maybe there are subtle differences in each color's texture. Or maybe it's just an optical illusion.
Keith, the results do almost always look better on darker cardstock, both on video and in person. I think that a big part of it is that there's more contrast between the black cardstock and the foil, so areas where the foil coverage might appear light or weathered on the white cardstock look more filled in against a dark / black background.
*PLEASE NOTE* : After I recorded this video, I learned that many Foil Quill users are getting great results with much lower speed and pressure settings ( generally in the 3 to 5 range for both) than the default material settings that I've been starting with, so be sure to experiement to see which settings work best for you. Also, here's a link to a very helpful Facebook group for the Foil Quill for Silhouette users (lots of experimentation and good information being shared here) : facebook.com/groups/foilquillsilhouette/
Maria's Creations - Did you make a comment on this video? I checked all of my comments, as well as the "held for review" and "spam" areas, and don't see anything. I didn't remove the comment.
Maria's Creations - I think I found the missing comment! It looks like it's a reply under a comment on the fine tip results video. I'll post a reply over there. :)
You should try Force 2 and Speed 2 for the Foil Quill. The more force you use, the less shiny the results will be.

I just went to your website and saw your amazing foil quill designs. Will be ordering from you as soon as I get mine. Hopefully tomorrow.
Sharon Tucker Lewis - I'm so glad that you're liking the foil quill designs! Hope you get yours soon (if you haven't already) - so much fun!
Got it this weekend. Can’t wait to play with it. Joanne’s is allowing their coupons to be used on the foul quill.
It's great that Joann is now allowing their coupons to be used on the foil quill. Have fun foiling!
Will these foils also work with the foil quil freestyle pen?
Thank you this is very helpful!

I've tried couture creations hot foil using the fine tip with excellent results on a single line design, haven't tried the minc foil yet

Minc or decor foil does not work the same has no adhesive in it so works on toner or glue as adhesive.
