  • Liz Haas demonstrates a double blast technique on powder coated tumbler to create a unique effect. The double blast technique is created using SR3000 Self-Stick photoresist film on a powder coated Yeti. Two images are sandcarved creating an overlay effect with a two-step paint process. Glad you found our channel. Sandblasting metal surfaces can be very rewarding, but it can also be challenging, depending on the surface. We do hope that the information shown has resonated with you.

    So. What did you cut the stencil mask with?

    • @Sandcarving
      @Sandcarving  7 месяцев назад

      Hello... thanks for your comment. The "stencil" is a photoresist film. This is an image transfer process, not a cut/weed process. Please see a few of our other videos on our Sandcarving channel for details. Also, see Rayzist.com for further details.
      Thanks for watching.

    Do you need to seal the paint?

    • @Sandcarving
      @Sandcarving  Год назад

      Hello Theresa, Thank You for watching. Using a quality material has an almost automotive finish and durability. There would be no reason to treat/seal the paint. We still do not recommend they go through the dishwasher; we would also recommend hand washing only.
      Check out some of the Learn Sandcarving playlist, there is a lot of coverage when it comes to painting.

    Love your work! I'm new to this. What air nozzle/gun do you use?

    • @Sandcarving
      @Sandcarving  2 года назад

      Thank You, Charles! We are glad that you are watching and learning something. We are sandblasting with our 2034VXA Sandcarving System. Which is a pressure pot blasting system; with no blasting gun, the media is propelled (under pressure) through the blasting hose and nozzle. There is an actuated foot pedal that starts and stops the blasting media.
      Please be sure to check out our Learn Sandcarving playlist on our Sandcarving channel and see our equipment offering at Rayzist.com
      Thanks again for watching.

    If you wouldn't have painted, would the etching look at shiny as the top and bottom of the cup? Or would it just be a rougher grey color? If that makes sense. Is there a way to achieve the shiny silver design with sandblasting?

    • @Sandcarving
      @Sandcarving  4 года назад

      You have it correct... sandblasting does not provide a high shiny appearance on metal as a Laser appearance would. The great thing about sandblasting is it does allow for color fill for contrast against the powder coated or the stainless surface.

    Hi, great video! How durable is the spray paint used to fill in the color? Does it chip off or wash off with time?

    • @Sandcarving
      @Sandcarving  4 года назад +2

      Thank you for watching our clip. The mural (graffiti) artist paints, Molotow or Montana, are very durable and will not wash, clip (in our experience). With any painted items, the dishwasher "heat" cycle could cause paint fractures and evidentially chipping at the edges of the design, so we suggest hand wash only.

    how did you cut your image and does this film work better that a vinyl

  • @ricardovillanueva4745
    @ricardovillanueva4745 4 года назад

    Will sr3000 4mil do the work for that type of surface?

    • @Sandcarving
      @Sandcarving  4 года назад +1

      4Mil may work for some powder-coated surfaces. Some manufacturers ' coating is not as thick as others. 4mil SR3000 will work if you are not blasting all the way thought the power-coated surface, rather just removing a few layers of the coated surface and adding a color fill for contrast.
      If the intention is to blast through the powder-coating, SR3000 5Mil would be most recommended for durability.

    What do you use again and where can I buy it. I use 651 vinyl but it doesn't stick to the powder coated cups.

    • @Sandcarving
      @Sandcarving  4 года назад

      Hello Tracy, we are using a photoresist film. The photoresist is an image-transfer process. As opposed to cutting and weeding vinyl, we print the graphic (artwork using an InkJet printer) and process the design with UV light and water to generate the "stencil." Please view a few other videos on our RUclips channel you will clearly understand. Ideally, anyone of the Virtual Trade show series, we make a photomask in each session. However, Session V covers blasting on metals.
      Getting the mask to adhere to the powder-coated surface is not always easy; with our product, we moisten the stencil, which activates the self-stick property and laminates to the surface.
      I hope this helps you in some way. Apologize as use no vinyl, completely photoresist film.
      Thanks for watching!

      Can I use a cricut to cut onto this paper?

    • @Sandcarving
      @Sandcarving  4 года назад

      @@tracyczerniewski2156 Unfortunately not. The material is spongy, and I don't think a Cricut blade will even cut our film, to be honest. You have to expose and wash our resist film to reveal the "self-stick" nature of the film.
      You would need to invest in a Complete Mask Making Kit. See this link:

      What media /grit do you use in your blaster?

  • @JustinHoMi

    Isn’t that rough on your hands? I can’t imagine using a media blaster without gloves.

    • @Sandcarving
      @Sandcarving  3 года назад +1

      Hello Justin, we appreciate you watching! Your thinking of this from an industrial standpoint where 'blast' with a very coarse grain and rubber gloves are a standard. Our system is much more refined, and we are using recyclable media, which is a very hard but rather small grain. When blasting personalization products, we opt for people wearing lightweight latex gloves, and some don't wear gloves at all. Not harmful, nor does it hurt.
