Ram has small trucks for sale outside the US. Just because they aren’t here doesn’t mean Ram doesn’t have any. Ford sold the current body style Ranger in Mexico long before it came to the US market.

They need a truck that has a usable bed. Nearly all trucks have a bed that is chest height to a person that is 6 ft.

I always liked that the old Dakotas were slightly larger and more powerful than the Ranger and Colorado. I would be disappointed if the new models are smaller.
I had a 1992 5.2 V-8 4x4 regular cab, I wish I still had it. Best 4x4 I have ever owned.
Dodge Dakota was branded as the first mid-sized truck.
There was nothing small about that fire-breathing 360ci V-8 that was offered as an optional power plant.
The 4.7 one I had was pretty damn awesome. I miss it, but it was never made to pull a 30 foot RV.

I waited and waited for Toyota to launch a small truck.
I needed one, I bought a Maverick, so far I’m very happy with it.
Being so small they should make a two door model too so the bed can be useful.
Electric work trucks are such a great idea. Taking three days to haul a loaded trailer or a boat 300 miles is just brilliant. Who needs to get there in a single day anyway? Also having a service truck unavailable for an after hours call because it's recharging sounds like a great convenience. Replacing a $35,960 battery after 36 months will also be an economical alternative to gas or diesel. Anyone who has used battery powered tools can tell you the run time never diminishes over the life of the battery, so I am sure your range will not diminish as the battery ages. As for a four foot bed I guess you can just use half sheets of drywall and plywood.
Ford has a winning combination because of fuel economy and all wheel drive at an affordable price. Make one that does the same for less and it will sell like crazy. Make one that costs more and you will have to give them away. Keep the frills and the extra stuff that runs the cost up. If I want lights in the bed, etc.. I can add that myself for a fraction of the cost. We want affordability in a down scaled truck.

My 1999 4WD Dakota SLT with the 5.2 is running strong and pretty darn reliable and still turns heads with over 200k on the clock. Plenty of guts and doesn't burn a drop of oil. A classic and the best of its time. Been waiting for the reboot, maybe even hybrid, and look forward to checking out any version that is a real truck on a real frame.
Bought a Dakota in 2005. Had it until last year. Had it for 17 years. Great truck. Inherited a F150. Sold the Dakota to a young couple. It has the 4.7 v8 with 130K well taken care of miles. Still see the guy I sold it to. He loves it
Love my Ram 1500. If they come out with a Dakota that competes with the Canyon, Ranger in that size with 7,000 pound or more towing capacity I’m in. Put a 2.7 turbo or 3.6 V6 in it. Anything smaller and I’m changing brands.
The new Dakota will probably be FWD being that the Ford Maverick and Santa Cruz are the benchmarks it's aiming at.
I had a 2000 Dakota with a v6.. it was a work horse ,ran excellent and decent gas mileage.. if they put in a 4 cyl I don't want it.. I've had problems with any 4cyl I've driven.
Dodge is usually pretty good at not obeying to these tiny lil engines

The new Dakota needs a few things to make me happy again. It needs to resemble a mix of the 2nd gen Dakota and the current Ram 1500. It needs to be both a crew cab and especially an extended cab which is the one I intend to buy. It needs to sit as the same height as a 2000 Slt 4x4 so I can easily grab my things out of the side of the box without my armpit touching the box side but has a good amount of height with good stance. I'm 6 ft tall and this would be perfect. A v8 would be wonderful or at least something with 300 hp and 300+ in torque. I hope there is a trim level that fits everyone perfectly. I've owned about 5 2nd gen Dakota's. And I don't want a large truck. The 2nd gen was absolutely perfect for my needs. So please Ram make this happen 🙏

If Ram can can make a comparable model to the Maverick with the towing and HP capabilities along with an AWD plugin hybrid it would give Ford some very needed competition.
Nah, awd plugin hybrid would be above the maverick so it wouldn't compete w it. Maverick costs less than a Prius.
Tbf, Ram would have to compete with the Hyundai Santa Cruz over the Ford Maverick. Santa Cruz has higher towing and HP than the latter. Additionally, the Hyundai brand still has an unbeatable warranty. I think Ram could do it but then it comes down to "where are we starting at as far as price?"
I am a self admitted Ford fan boy. With that sad, I hope Ram pulls this off in spades. When the market is chocked full of competing options, the consumer wins.

I hope they keep that option for V8. I got a 91 Dakota v6 and it pulls pretty good for its mileage (290+miles) I would like to swap in a V8 in the future. All these newer cars are just getting faster it’s gonna need to keep up 👍🏼
I continue to own my 1998 Ram 1500 and as I am in my 25th year of ownership I have been nothing but pleased with this vehicle. This new Dakota is going to put my new truck selection on hold as it may be worth the wait and a top contender in this class of truck! As I am now retired, if you guys need a test subject and an honest review, send one to me. I'll be happy to put it through the paces for a year and give you solid and honest feedback.
Yes I'm retired I have a 1999 Dodge ram I love it I will not give it up for another new vehicle. I used it to tow the camper and where I need to go
all new trucks are plastic junk these days keep your 98ram and put the money for the new one in it and it will serve you better and longer trucks today as well as cars are made to fall apart after 5 years and repairs cost a arm and a leg there's not a car or truck today that will last 25 years i guarantee
I still own a dakota v6 5 speed manual. It's old it's tough and it still runs. The big 3 need to do this again. I would rather have a manual option all the way around. Windows, doors, tranny, this is what a truck is.
The Maverick is popular because it is a nice looking, comfortable, high mpg, low cost vehicle that isn't the size of a dump truck, and happens to have a bed large enough for an occasional run to Home Depot or a trip to the mountains with bikes and gear.
The people buying it aren't buying it because it's a truck. They are buying it because sometimes they could use a truck rather than another SUV. They want what could be called a Cross-over truck vs a cross-over SUV. They aren't planning on towing a 10,000 lb trailer or hauling 100 bags of concrete. They want a small SUV, but with a truck bed.
BTW, I loved the looks and size of the older Dakota, but it got like 12 MPG: No thanks
Yeah Stelantis or whatever they are called never had good mpg in their pickups and IMO is their downfall.

I have an F350. It is utterly ridiculous size being 4WD, crew cab, long bed, has a Warn bumper/winch combo and a V10. Bought it from my friend's dad's estate for less than half of book- more than what I need most times, but it's not a daily driver. I did put Gibson headers, SPD Y-pipe kit, and a Gibson side-exit exhaust on it. I get 10 MPG and the heaviest I've ever had it on the scales at? 23, 556 pounds, trailer & all.
Had an 04 with the v6 magnum. Never had any issues with drive train . My only complaint was corrosion , but it was comfortable and easy enough on gas . Moved up to full size GMC and still regret not keeping my old Dakota

I have a 2019 1500 big horn ram. I had a 2003 dakota I loved it. Built a dakota plug in electric with independent suspension and and a interior light my 2019 Ram and I'll buy one tomorrow
When I heard that the Dakota was on the way back, I was excited enough to start planning on buying one. And then I found out, thanks to this and other videos, that the Dakota nameplate was going to be stuck onto a mini truck, I started looking at used Jeep Gladiators. The second-best pickup I've ever owned was an '01 Dakota with the V-8 Magnum engine and extended cab. THE best pickup I've owned to date is a 2014 RAM 1500 5.7L, quad cab, 4X4 that is currently parked behind my "beater" '05 Chevy Colorado Z71. I was looking forward to a new, midsize Dakota to at least equal the '01 I basically drove the wheels off of. Now, not at all.
01 dakota is very dependable, starts up in any weather. 6 years owned, used.
I purchased my 2003 Dodge Dalots quad cad with the 4.7 V8 new and just went over 100k a few months ago. I have not had to do anything other than change batteries and tires. I love the truck...

Must have a forward tailgate that folds forward to connect the truck bed with cabin to make camping and long items possible creating many new uses and fun.

I think that it should come with the V6 3.0L ecodiesel option. Even better would be a smaller ecodiesel maybe a 4 cylinder 2.0 version or a small 1.6L ecodiesel hybrid.
And offer optional AWD or 4x4. AWD for city drivers and 4x4 for those wanting to go offroad.
Another option could be the RAM 700 hybrid which would produce enough power for the US market.
They need to drop a hellcat engine in it. It’s the dodge way.
EcoDiesel is dead. They're not putting them in Rams anymore.

The 03 Dakota is a great truck 3.9 motor and a 5 speed trans . It has 389500 miles on it now . great truck . Still running great
I have a 2006 Dodge Dakota v6 love it around 160 thousand miles.Has not been rebuilt. A very reliable truck use to own fords. Hope the new ones have a good v6.If so count me in on a new one.

Some people don’t like EV due to it takes 3 things to make a battery so you have to dig for the elements that means you have to strip the land to get it so make some gas types 4 an 6 ci
I own a 2002 Dodge Dakota and bought it when it was new. I have not had any major issues with it except for gas mileage. I only average around 16 to 17 mpg because of its low geared rear end. However, I still love driving it. I have over 210,000 miles on it and it still runs great. I have never had a problem with it passing smog. I have been waiting for a new Dakota brand to hit the market so I can have one last nice truck to drive before I leave this earth. I am excited and anxiously awaiting its arrival.

As a Brazilian, I can give you a general idea of what is already known about this new RAM Rampage.
Its platform is based on a compact truck that we have in the domestic market, called Fiat Toro (which is sold in some markets as the RAM 1000), being a platform derived from the Jeep Renegade/Compass.
From the Teaser images, you can see various elements of Jeep and RAM in various ways. It is being well expected here in Brazil, especially due to the strength of the RAM brand here, with great appeal and popular prestige.
It will be presented in full on June 16. From the leaks, it is already known that it will have two engine options, both being 2.0: a Diesel option (by great demand in our country), derived from the Diesel version of the Jeep Renegade, with 170hp and 380nm of torque. And it was announced by Stellantis itself, about a month ago, that it will also have the option of the new 2.0 Hurricane-4 engine, coming from the Jeep Wrangler, with an exclusive arrangement for our market.
In Mexico I saw several small pickup. Ram, chev ,Vw and one from I Nadia.2 dr with 5ft bed.
I’ve seen small New Ram Trucks in South America named the Ram 1000. Wouldn’t surprise me if they rebadge it to Dakota and sell it in the states.
It will come out in March here in Brazil using the same platform as the Fiat Toro. This platform is the same used for Jeep Renegade, Compass and Commander, all made on the same plant.
Love the dodge Dakota when we had it I hope they bring it back with one last time with v8 5.7 before electric comes are way😊making it affordable to fill up
Ram does a great job for the creature features, so that isn't a big issue. They could defiantly make sure all the electronic bugs are out of the system, my 2014 Ram 1500 has a few that are still not addressed. But most importantly it will be the engine and the performance to gas milage. There was no mention about the inline 6 they are working on, that would be a great option power and pull capability in a small factor truck. Personally I'm a Jeep guy and I'm waiting to see if that engine is coming out before I trade in my 2015 Jeep.

I had a 2018 Frontier, now in a 2021 Titan. Upsized as we bought a travel trailer. No issues with either vehicle. Well, one, Nissan needs to market them more!
Oh, the Titan has a 5 year/100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.

Nice to see all new affordable more efficient little trucks but they have a lot of work to do to compete With the Ford Maverick hybrid I've had my Maverick hybrid almost a year 23000 miles and I love it Only issue I ever had with it was it went stone cold dead on a 7° night . I charged the battery for an hour started no problem since dont think i could have left anything on
I would like to see the new Dakota come with an option for the Hurricane 6 cylinder option with 370 HP or more. Make it about 10 to 15% larger than an Canyon/Colorado. Then I am there for sure.
Used to be a Dakota owner for years until they came out with the V8 that had less torque than the V6.

I had a 1993 Dakota Mark III. Hunter green with real wood trim, sliding Rear Window, and upgraded stereo. Beautiful until my Ex decided to drive it into a very large Oak Tree. The Tree won.
The truck they're describing is the Ram Rampage that was just released in Brazil and is not slated for North America. I have read that the Dakota is suposed to go directly at the Ranger/Tacoma/Colorado market, so unless Ram has decided to reverse course and just rebadge the new Rampage as Dakota in North America, I don't believe that this is the Dakota we have been waiting for. It seems to me that a lot of these channels are just pushing out videos for clicks without verifying the information.
And when did you do make it have it that you can still have the 4x4 and tow behind the RV

I owned a 2001 Dakota for 18 years. 4.7, 3/4 ton, 3.91 gears. The only problem I had was the suspension was rusting off of it. Body/ frame showed no signs of rust. Traded for a new 19 Ram. Won't be in the market for a Dakota for at least 4 years yet. Let's look at the prototype first.

Bought a 4.7 V8 Dakota new in 2000. Daily driver, plus tow a 2400# drag car on an 18' open trailer.It has 178K miles and still runs like a top with nothing more than 23 years of regular service. Great mid size truck. If they do it, they better not F' it up.
I still have a old Dakota, and it’s about time they release another, so this is exciting. Not excited about the pricing trends, though.
the Dakota was the first American Mid-Size p/u the Ram 50 was the Dodge Compact Size truck from the early 80s and the Ram and Power Ram is the Dodge Full Size p/u.
II am considering replacing my 2000 TD Ram 2500 Quad Cab to a smaller crew cab 4Wd pickup and would love to have another Dodge. Especially if it's a hybrid. Go diesel Hybrod and really make it economical to drive.
Since I retired I don't need to haul trailers that much anymore and would love the versatility of being able to run into town to the Big Box Stores and get stuff to do the upkeep on my home.
Being able to flat tow it behind my RV would be a big plus and I'll definitly buy one. My current "Towed" is a 93 4WD SUV and getting long in the tooth!
I have dogs and really dug the pass through bed in the Chevy Avalanche. If Dakota has a feature like this,I'm in. Had a SST ram when I only had one kid then traded for a Durango, then a town & country. For a minute, Dodge was using really crappy electrical components, looks like things have improved. If they get the Dakota right it'll be awesome.

Been a Mopar guy my whole life. Family before me too. Had 2 Dakotas over the years. Loved them. I would absolutely go for a Ram 700 or 1200 introduced to compete with the Ford Maverick. However, I would not brand it as the Dakota. Dakota should compete with Ranger, Colorado, and Tacoma just as before. It should spank the competition, and be a real truck. Not a Hyundai unibody Maverick. Please Stalantis, Fiat, or whoever owns them this year, don't ruin the Dodge heritage........make Dakota properly as a real mid-sized truck that spanks every other small truck in every category. NO ELECTRIC for Dakota either! Make it right, and it will sell like hotcakes. Think: "Jeep" Gladiator but a bit wider, with a base model v6, and an available all new 5 or 5.2ltr V8. Of course after 2 model years, offer the HellCat version too! ;)

I think that quating being last to market with fewer build and reliability problems is obserd. It's all about smart engineering and quality components.
I have had about a half dozen dakotas in my lifetime. There are two reasons. The first is size, but more importantly, like all Chrysler products. The optimal word here is “Cheap “. I’ll just leave it at that.
I bought an 03 Tacoma 15 years ago because everything else was too wide to fit in my garage. I'm not interested in a Pacer pickup or anything else over 66" wide, car or truck.
Make the Ram Dakota a hybrid like the Jeep hybrid and I will buy it.
Since Ram and Chrysler in general was bought by the Italians, there has been a quality issue. It’s not just about recalls. It’s about body’s falling apart faster than it’s competition. I have seen 2020 rams already rusting through the rear wheel wells and front fenders. Interior parts breaking from normal use. You can design a great looking truck but if it falls apart in a couple of years it’s not worth it. I have a friend who has had 52 recalls that were not programming issues on his Ram 2500. His Ram work truck that’s just used by him to drive around in gas had many switches for windows and licks just fall apart. His personal truck has 23000 miles on it and a major amount of those miles are driving 1.5 hours to the nearest dealer for recalls. Chrysler has this issue in all their line ups. Fix that and maybe you will do better. Ever wonder why so many 1-2 yr old Rams and Jeeps are for sale? It’s also why your Ram dealers have bunches of new trucks on their lots. Ford and GM can’t keep trucks on their lots. They are sold before they come in from factory 😅

I had a Dakota with a v8 years ago. It wasn’t very roomy in the cab, rode rough and got crappy gas mileage. My Chevy Avalanche had more room, rode better and got better gas mileage. I thought switching to a smaller truck would be better, but I was wrong.

If the Dakota looks anything like the picture in the thumbnail or the ram 700 I will cry and loose all faith in them.
