Brad Delp could hit it like no other- RIP
Best voice ever. Period
*my Marianne*
"I see my Marianne walking awayyyyy..."
One of the best rock songs ever
The high pitched voice leading into the high pitched guitar...
"I don't want it to end" The whole world felt that way in '76. Boston's debut album just exploded on the scene. Nothing like it has come since!
It's one thing to hear a song for the first time and get blown away, but it's another thing altogether to be there to hear it hit the airwaves for the first time. It blew us all away.
@@MoMoMyPup10 Not just a song, an album.
And to have it STILL blow you away to this day!
The fade-in makes the song never age. It's fresh every time I've heard it for the last 45 years of my life.
Think what we went thru. Before CD’s, before cell phones, way before something called the internet lol 😂 We had to scan all the FM Chanel’s. Figure out what in the heck was that. Blew our early teenage years in 78.
KZEL & KGON Rocks was our go to for music (rock that is). What an era to grow up n.
Say what you want but we had the most AMAZING music back in the 70s.
Truly! ❤
Best music, best parties, best cars, best campfires, best fun............all before the interwebs..........
Amen to that!!
Ditto!
Fun Fact: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson married Lauren Hashian, daughter of Boston drummer Sib Hashian.
Mary Ann was a much older cousin of Tom that he had a crush on when he was a child. It's very endearing.
There can never be a Boston tribute band because nobody can sing like Brad Delp. Nobody.
Try the Hindley Street Country Club cover. It will shake your resolve. seriously.
The band Smokin/Renegade band does an amazing job with Boston and Styx I was super skeptical too
This song should be seen as the anthem of classic rock in the '70s/early '80s. Brad Delps had the best voice in rock. A true loss that he passed on so young.
The band was so great, they named a city after them.
Brad Delp, R.I.P. - one of the greatest voices in the history of rock 'n' roll.
@@isaackovitz4791 can't delete
Brads voice is on a whole other level!
Boston "Smokin" great tune❤
RIP BRAD DELP You gave us amazing music. You left too soon.
Boston - One of the gold standards of Rock.
This album played in our College apartment…24/7 in 1976!!!🤣🤣👍👍👍
It is absolutely impossible to not get a shot of serotonin when you hear the riffs with brads voice. Ahhh. Such a golden tune. I honestly wish I could hear it for the first time again. Absolute MASTERPIECE. There will never be another one like it.
That's how it felt back in 76 hearing this the first time . For Sure . I think I was 13 .
@@nomasker1360 That's amazing!! ❤❤❤ Had to be such an epic moment in time. Thank you so much for sharing that memory with us. 🌹
Brad Delp and Ann Wilson. The two best voices in rock and roll. Period.
Indeed!
I would add Roger Daltrey, too.
As much as I love them and Brad and agree with you, I can’t help but think of Miljenko Matijević of Steelheart when I think of the greatest male vocalist
Gotta add Steve Perry to that list.
Agree totaly👍
Don’t forget Chris Cornell
How Brad Delp hits that super high note after you've think that he has already maxed out - classic vocal moment in rock and roll
Reaches the summit then goes further.
Yes, windows down, hair flowing, a summer day. So great, it totally rocks
No song reminds me more of my teenage years
For me it's *just* pre-teen. My older brother had 8-tracks of this Boston album, Styx (Pieces of Eight), Eagles, Kansas.... My mom would let him play them when we went places and omg, this music. It just takes me back. (I still find myself waiting for the fade-out/track-change/fade-in sometimes).
I was only 10 years when this song came out . I was at a young age getting into music. My dad was playing guitar for Barbara Mendrel and Mell Tilles and other famous country stars. He played in clubs in Germany for the G I's stationed in germany . l like country music from the the past but nowadays it's what it just to be. I listene to classic rock and heavy metal. But Boston is still one of my favorite bands.
🦋 I Was born In 76' and Absolutely Agree! 🙌
This should have so many more likes!!
Just like Steve Perry for journey Brad is for Boston one of a kind voices.
as clear as the “SUN” on a summer day… that note he hits on sun is simply amazing
Something About You is great and often overlooked
They were really good in concert. Sad day when Brad Delp died.
1976, the Bicentennial. In my opinion the greatest year in rock music. Boston, Kansas, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton, Bad Company, Blue Oyster Cult, Heart, Steely Dan, Steve Miller Band, Queen, Thin Lizzy, Eagles, Rush, Boz Scaggs and the Doobie Brothers would all release killer, classic albums in 1976. Unfortunately, on the horizon was the darkness we would come to know as Disco which would pollute the airwaves for the next 3-4 years.
I agree with you about disco polluting the airwaves! I know I'll probably get flack from this, but rap is worse in my opinion! I agreed with all of your classic rock bands you listed with the exceptions of Fleetwood Mac and Queen; I've never been a fan of either of those groups.
I was in Junior high when this song came out, I am now 61 and still rock out every day! My Grandchildren think i am a cool Grandmother, lol!
A sunny summer day song.
This is the album that stayed with my first car and was played constantly as loud as I could take it🎉😂❤
The world was such a different place than more fun
This song is just one of those songs that you Never get tired of! I could listen to it over and over again!
"Hitch a Ride" the outro is epic
i posted same thing before reading. Greatest outro ever for me.
@@atomicpunk520 Gotta agree with both of you! The guitar work is next level.
Hitchin' a ride.
Marianne was his cousin who he had a crush on when he was younger
Try reacting to Boston's Something about you', it's a great song, my favorie Boston song
Arguably the greatest debut album of all time.
While all time classics like More Than a Feeling are here…my favorite might be Hitch a Ride.
No argument here, my friend. No argument here. 😭😭
Good try, but Led Zeppelin 1 beats this my a mile.
"I see my Marianne walkin' away."... Every guy has a "Marianne"....
Sadly true for me, even after forty years! Unrequited love. Never leaves me, even having been happily married for over thirty years!
Fun fact: the backing vocals are all Brad Delp, too.
This is probably my favorite debut album of all time.
Without a doubt!
I saw them on their debut tour in 76. I was 13. I believe that they are the greatest band on the planet. It's almost a religious experience for me. Whenever I am down, I play Boston and I feel reborn.
Asked my mom on the way to the swimming pool as a 10yr to turn the volkswagon radio up.
I think that Marianne is his first love probably in his teenage years.
A masterpiece of rock n' roll ☝🏻👌🏻
One of the greatest rock songs of all time..
So damn sad that Brad took his own life. An amazing voice that will always amaze.
Tom Scholz was an Electrical Engineer and designed and made electrical equipment to modify the sounds of the guitars. This is why Boston had such a unique sound. They were the only ones with this equipment, and it was all in Tom's basement. When they recorded their next album in an actual studio Tom had to bring his equipment to the studio to get the same sound. Tom also wrote all the songs, words and music, and played all the instruments.
So they werent a band.
@@googlefashists4986 - In reality, no. It was two guys in one of the guy's basement. They had to hire other musicians to perform on tour after they got their record deal. There are videos on RUclips about this. There are interviews with Tom Scholz where he talks about this, and he even shows the equipment in his basement where this all happened. When they were ready to record their second album Scholz told them he would bring his equipment to the recording studio that the record company wanted them to record in. He was told the studio has their own equipment. Tom told them "Not the equipment that makes the sound that we have, because I made it. It has to be there." (Not an exact quote but paraphrasing) This is why nobody else sounds like Boston, particularly the guitars.
RIP Brad Delp
Great channel guys. I'm in.
Boston = Blistering Guitars 🔥🎸🔥
Nothing is ever perfect in life but some things are pretty close. This song being one of them. Wow 1976 was a powerhouse year for music.
Think summer 1976. Great song.
Well said Brad Delp was a national treasure. One of the best voices ever
2nd highest selling debut album of all time
The top of the UFO in the dome is the city of Boston on the cover..
New singer for Boston is really good but Brad wasn’t from this planet and he was one of a kind.
He was a gift
@80srocker67: Of course Brad wasn’t from this planet. That’s why he arrived in a guitar spaceship.
My absolute favorite song of all time.
1980's, driving to work in my van, framing homes, at 6:45 am in the summer, this song comes on, 6 speaker, 2 amp, 2 EQ, 220 watt sound system gets turned up(it was described once as 'sitting inside a speaker')....coffee in hand....ahhh those were the days
Perfectly said 👍🎶
Brad Delp (RIP) amazing singer and song writer.... you are missed.
This was one big reason u turned your radio up to blast back in the old days lol
And the bobble heads are back!! Yay! The 70’s had it ALL!!
More than a feeling was the first 45 of Boston that I bought at TG&Y. Im 60 now and I'll always love Boston!❤❤❤
The dream girl in this song, Marianne, was based on a real person. "She was my older first cousin, who I had a crush on when I was 10," Scholz explained. "I ran into her many many years later and she was very annoyed at me for mentioning that she was my older cousin."
Back when we had great music to listen too!
I think you guys would love " A Man I'll Never Be," a real underrated classic..If you are suckers for the commercial ,top 40 , love ballad fare, look no further than "Amanda.". "Don't Look Back ," great tune , as.well.
Third Stage was recorded to fulfill their contact.
This....Their most underrated song. "Man I'll Never Be."
I love Brad Delp and I love you 502 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊
So lucky I got to see them live in my younger day (much younger days). They were incredible thanks for reviewing
Boston bangers!
🌟Smokin
🌟Peace Of Mind
🌟Don't Look Back
🌟Let Me Take You Home Tonight
BOSTON.....Legends
All the Boston songs on this album are great. Keep reacting to them. “Smokin”, “Rock and Roll Band” and “Peace of Mind” please
I love Smokin". Gets me fired up. No pun intended.
A great 80's song is Amanda. His voice was beautiful!
Marianne, is Tom Scholtz's first cousin.
GUY! You've taught this old man a lesson. I was 21 years old when this album came out. Just went in the U.S. Air Force Feb 77. You couldn't get away from this album. It was played everywhere including all the recreation centers at Lackland AFB. Every dance for the troops played nothing but Boston. Now the lesson you taught me at 67 years old. The way to listen to any and I mean any music. Get a good set of headphones. Find a nice quite place. Darken the lights. Grab a good glass of wine. Comfortable chair close your eyes turn volume up. Close your eyes. Get lost in the music. This is the way to re listen to these gems from the 70's. Thanks for showing me the way to listen. It moves the soul. Just like the first time. The memories come flooding back some good some bad. It doesn't get any better than this. Love your reviews and to see your reactions. They have me in tears
“It’s more than a feeling when I hear that old song they used to play” is exactly how this song makes me feel
Debut album.
the chair dancing to this musical enigma is just wonderful
Mind blowing is’nt? Look at that UFO.. a flaming guitar turned upside down! What an art!!
This album and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon are must own albums. Every song was great! 🎶🎵🎶
❤
LOVE, LOVE THIS SONG. LOVED IT WHEN IT CAME OUT AND HAS STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. STILL THE BEST. BILLY BOY
My favorite song!
When Tom Scholz was 10 yrs old he had a crush on his cousin, Mary Ann.
This song was on regular rotation on every rock radio station for a long time.
That voice 😍
Brad Delp IS the voice behind ALL the harmonies. Google Brad Delp Isolated Vocals for this song and hear what PURE talent is. No auto tune needed. Just talent.
Every day after school in 77 Boston on the Record palyer then Sweet Desolation Boulevard . You guys need to check that band and album out .
Another great song by Boston!
Mary Ann is Tom scholz' older cousin that he had a crush on when he was 9 or 10 years old.
I was sixteen in high school when this album came out, everyone played it all frickin year to this day I am still not tired of it. Such a good album.
LOVE THIS SONG!!! BRAD'S VOICE IS ONE OF A KIND‼👍
Marianne is Tom Scholz's cousin. She is about 10 years older than him, and when he was a young boy of 6 or 7 he had a crush on her. When they would come by to visit Tom would "See his Marianne walking away", down the driveway to the car, leaving to go home.
You guys remind me of me and my friends, when I was your age. I grew up with so much of the music that y'all review. Got to experience it, the first time around. Now, thanks to the 3 of you, I get to relive my younger days. Keep having fun.
So picture this. 1979 Texas Jam, 102,000 people in the cotton bowl, Its night Boston comes on as the huge pipe organ rises out of the stage with fog rolling off the stage as Tom has this long cape and playing it. Chill bumps. At the end the American Flag goes off in fireworks. It was awesome. Boston, in my top 5 bands of all time.
I graduated high school in 1979. This was my music along with Pink Floyd The Beatles among others glad you’re enjoying it. It was ass kick in there and it’s ass kicking now. Glad you’re enjoying. He’s talking about his second or third cousin that he may love to them and she just got up and walked away, and that was imprinted in his mind. That’s who Marianne was now you know
Man I'll never be is Probably my Favorite Boston Song.
It is mine.
White Snake "In the Still of the Night" "Is this Love" "Here I go Again"
Best debut album of all time imo
I grew up to this
Good one boys!
Love this song!
I get SO much joy watching you guys listening to Boston. I’ve listened to that album hundreds of times and it never gets old.
It does my heart good to see you young men loving music from my high school days!
You guys are awesome! More than a Feeling is amazing! Also more ELO - you guys are great thanks so much!!!!!
