@@SuperAlittlebitcrazy Absolutely!! And I love how the lead vocals trade off between two lead tracks allowing the phrases to bleed over each other. They were even able to do it live thanks to Barry Goudreau's voice being so similar to Brad Delp's. Most bands would have just cut each phrase short and had one lead vocal track. It's possible for one person to sing lead, but it doesn't sound the same. It loses a lot of richness.
The band Boston was "THE" band that carved out a whole new ultra musical sound (nothing like it) and genre of their own. The bands leader Tom Sholtz was the mastermind behind the whole deal. Of course when he found Brad Delp as a vocalist it sealed the deal to everyones great pleasure. It wasn't magical it was a miracle in music. Mind blown the first note....... perfection is an understatement on this one. No kidding....... no hype.

You guys should learn more about Boston. I think they are easily one of the greatest bands of all time.
One thing that is really special about this song is the clapping that goes along with every beat in the chorus. It lifts the song in a way that is hard to imagine, and it is just a very simple element! Brilliant!
Agreed totally. This album is up there with Rumours, Zeppelin I-IV, Animals & Wish You Were Here, Paranoid, RATM... Boston is on the shortlist of flawless industry-changing albums.
"We probably owe you guys another song" ... Cue a million other recommendations, all different. lol! They don't call it Classic Rock for nothing. Thanks for the jam, guys.
Can you believe that Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Metallica are also considered classic rock these days? I'm old enough to remember when they first came out. Very different mood and melody, but still, classics will always be classics, yet other eras of rock will eventually join them. Funny enough, I can't think of anything from the 2000s era that deserve to join those ranks... on that level at least.
Thanks again guys, you nailed the review. Boston took the mid-70's era by storm on FM radio, especially on AOR stations in the northeast, probably country wide as well. I highly recommend reviewing their song "Amanda". Thanks again.
Not touring wise obviously. That and lack of records is probably what is keeping them from Hall Of Fame. So much time between records. Stellar studio band.
Boston were one of the first "arena rock" bands, which was a genre of harder rock bands that could play arenas. Journey, Styx, Foreigner, Kansas and others had big arena level success in the second half of the 70's and into the 80's and Boston's debut sort of launched that genre.
Boston were originators. When this album came out it was considered one of best produced albums of all time. The founder, Tom Scholz, has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. He built his studio in basement and basically recorded the entire album himself. He brought in Brad Delp for vocals and other musicians for final touches (and also the record company needed an entire band for the marketing of the album) and for touring. This band held the record since 1976 until this year of being the biggest selling debut album by a band in the history of rock and roll. It just fell into second as it recently was passed by Guns and Roses' debut, Appetite for Destruction. If you all want to review another Boston song, I HIGHLY recommend "Smokin'", and then "Don't Look Back"!!!!!
I remember the strange feeling that I had the first time I heard that song on the radio, in 1976. Hard to describe, like if I already knew it (even at my first audition). I was wondering if it was a forgotten old song, or a new one. Indeed, it was new, but it was already in me. Probably the signature of a f***ing good song! In one word, for me it was... more than a feeling!
I will never forget our band, living in the BOSTON area, gathered around the record player and heart this together for the first time. We stood there, our jaws hanging open, looking at each other with big smiles on our faces. We tried to do it for a wedding reception soon after and could barely do it justice. Wonderful achievement!
I just requested the same thing. It's their best, IMHO. The lyrics match up with the imagery that the music invokes in my mind. It just feels like being free, driving down the road with no cares, soaring angelic.
Their first album gets all the love - rightly so - but the title track to the second album is my favorite Boston track. It’s everything you love about the band. Give “Don’t Look Back” a shot.
Kevin Kirwan I know I’m in the minority, but I actually like the second album more than the first. “Don’t Look Back” is a little more varied overall, as a collection of songs.
Boston's first album was a classic. It was pure magic that only comes around once every so often. I love all genres of music. Good stuff is good stuff.
@@gnarkilleptic4871 I suppose you have never seen the performance I am talking about. They have only played that song once live as far as I know and it´s very good.
I was 12 in 1976. The Beatles and Zep i'm sure had an influence both on Brad and Tom, but they put something together that was pretty close to being their own. Brad's vocals and Tom's classically influenced harmony guitar lines, which sound like 80 pound violins, are still to this day mesmerizing in my opinion. I've probably listened to the first Boston album a thousand times... Nice job gents. You're bringing everybody together, which is what music is all about. Thank you!!!
Finally !!! Such a great song!!!! Reminds me of laying out in the sun on Pensacola Beach Fl in the 80s ... no sunscreen, just tanning oil !!!! ON Q 100 ! Love you guys!!

Really? How old are you? Your pic looks like you're about 22. Anyway, great memory you've shared. Seems we can all put ourselves somewhere at a really good place and time when reminiscing songs of Boston. 😀
C. Espi 1) Good Times, Bad Times (for Jimmy’s incredible and frankly, practically unplayable solo, and unlike 99.9% of songs, it has a different riff underneath each time the verses come back. Classic Zep) 2) When the Levee Breaks (For Bonzo’s unequaled awesomeness and unique beat, and the great riffs Jimmy goes into to end Robert’s slowed down bluesy and funky kickass lyrics.)
Boston was a once in a lifetime band . Masterful, just Masterful !!!! I grew up listening to the great 70's music, loved all of it, but these guys and their sound was just on a whole different level all themselves. Like there will never be another Jordan, there will never be another Boston..... love your reactions guys
BOSTON is totally original. Nobody sounded like them when they came out. Excellent composition in their music. Harmonies, orchestral use. Tom Schultz... MIT graduate developed the guitar sounds. The best concert I have ever been too. They weren't too flashy with there stage performance... just let the music speak for themselves. Although... they did have a huge pipe organ come out from the bottom of the stage to play on the Third Stage album songs. RECOMMEND - Cool the Engines from Third Stage album as something to listen too.
They had the cleanest recording sounds ever. Voice of Demp is legendary! Jamming album and definitely a crank up! They were original for their time and epic in concert. Thanks for covering! Try Smoking by them!

Scholz was also a genius electronic engineer
@@shmick6079 Agreed
Travis Lethcoe Titan up
All these years later I'm still astounded how long Brad held that last note. What an incredible vocalist he was.
From Tom Scholz interview: Marianne was a real person; she was a much older cousin that Tom had a crush on when he was a child, 8 or 9 years old.
Wow there's another one I never knew RUclips fans are awesome thanks bro
DUDES! Boston: "Don't Look Back"!!! Seriously, do yourselves a favor. You'll love it.
If they would react to the music video of the song, it would make it so much better. ruclips.net/video/2HuiH-0R6a0/видео.html
Agreed, that is a hell of as song.
"Don't look back" has some of the best dual lead guitar work I've ever heard
@@SuperAlittlebitcrazy Absolutely!! And I love how the lead vocals trade off between two lead tracks allowing the phrases to bleed over each other. They were even able to do it live thanks to Barry Goudreau's voice being so similar to Brad Delp's. Most bands would have just cut each phrase short and had one lead vocal track. It's possible for one person to sing lead, but it doesn't sound the same. It loses a lot of richness.
Yeah, those vocals are amazing. At 7:35 when you think he hit his peak he goes even higher. Damn
No kidding....... no hype.
Sib Hashian is one of my all time favorite drummers.
It was called corporate rock.
@@SophiaAphrodite Nothing screams corporate than recording in a basement.
I can't help but feel good listening to this song. It reminds me of my childhood.
Pretty much what the song is about. I totally agree, it really takes me back.
Reminds me of hanging out with my friends during summer vacation, smoking, cruising around town... A beautiful time! 🔥🔥🔥
I was born in 84 and it reminds me of MY childhood lol. Great tune
Just about every guy alive can listen to this and feel the emotion of that one girl that got away...so sad and sweet..this is a timeless masterpiece as is the entire album....
Peace of Mind, Rock and Roll Band, Smokin', Hitch a Ride, Feelin' Satisfied, Don't Look Back, Amanda, Let Me Take You Home Tonight, Something About You, Party, A Man I'll Never Be, I Need Your Love and many more!!!! All phenomenal!! Tom Scholz pretty much made all of the equipment and recorded this in his basement with Brad Delp. He is a complete genius and Brad Delp's vocals are impeccable!! You guys should learn more about Boston. I think they are easily one of the greatest bands of all time.
Boston Peace of Mind, Smokin or Rock and Roll Band would be right up your alley. That whole album is amazing cover to cover.
One thing that is really special about this song is the clapping that goes along with every beat in the chorus. It lifts the song in a way that is hard to imagine, and it is just a very simple element! Brilliant!
This album is a amazing landmark in rock history! 🤘🏻
You should probably just review the whole album. One of the few 5 star, start to finish, albums out there.
Agreed totally. This album is up there with Rumours, Zeppelin I-IV, Animals & Wish You Were Here, Paranoid, RATM... Boston is on the shortlist of flawless industry-changing albums.
The Graceful Savage glad you mentioned animals that album is a masterpiece and it’s sad it’s so unknown now days
@@JungleScene it's not classic rock but appetite for destruction should be on that list.
Naaaaah, theres so many great albums out there if you keep digging
@@slawaxas If you have to dig for it, then there aren't that many.
" Is that Freedom Rock?..Well TURN - IT - UP!!"
Great Song!
LOL
I remember the first time I heard Boston on the local "oldies" station, I was like, "well, damn." Now that same station is playing GnR!
@@DeathBYDesign666 I was almost in my 20's when nirvana made their first LP!
Boston were definitely Originators. Their sound was unique. Yall should try Hitch a Ride, Peace of Mind, or Smokin' next. All classics.
Thanks again guys, you nailed the review. Boston took the mid-70's era by storm on FM radio, especially on AOR stations in the northeast, probably country wide as well. I highly recommend reviewing their song "Amanda". Thanks again.
Boston had original sound back in the 70's. One of the great bands of the times.
Not touring wise obviously. That and lack of records is probably what is keeping them from Hall Of Fame. So much time between records. Stellar studio band.
I am 50 years old and I cannot tell you how many times I rocked this album. Alcohol had nothing to do with it either. 😉 Keep rocking guys.
I love this song!!. R.I.p Brad Delp😭. I'm from the 70's. Boston was definitely original.
Try "Smokin'" (yes!!!) or "Rock and Roll Band" by Boston. Did I mention "Smokin"? Yep, "Smokin" is the one you want.
A must
smokin' is the jam! long time is like seeing god
Absolutely. "Smokin'" is one of my Top Ten favorite driving songs ever.
Hitch A Ride by Boston. One of the most beautiful guitar solos ever. Give it a listen. I think you will be glad you did.
Yeah I think you're right
Omgsh you're so right
richs180 YESSS LOVE THE GUITAR PLAYING ON THAT SONG- BEAUTUFUL!!!!👍❤😎
Nailed it.
richs180 absolutely!! Amazing song & guitar solo!! these guys would love it!
Now you know why this was song of the year, album of the year, best new artist of 1976. They took home almost every award that year.
They got a song called "Amanda" and its great + yall probably havent heard that one. Keep that content coming, love the channel ✌
Boston were one of the first "arena rock" bands, which was a genre of harder rock bands that could play arenas. Journey, Styx, Foreigner, Kansas and others had big arena level success in the second half of the 70's and into the 80's and Boston's debut sort of launched that genre.
It was called Corporate rock . Arena rock genre started in the late 60's after Woodstock.
I knew the late Brad Delp personally when I lived in Boston. he was not only a real nice guy, he had an incredible voice
You guys should do the whole damn album. Is a masterpiece!! Also, Marianne must have had the Good, Good!😁
Was his older cousin he had a crush on when he was a kid. No BS seen him interviewed! Take care
Amen
Yes!!! Every....Single....Song!
@@lorihopkins6629 Hell yeah!
Lucifer Sam,
I agree 100%!
It can't be formulaic since it created the formula without even knowing it.
Exactly! What you are hearing IS "the formula". This shit was fresh as hell when it came out & will be imitated until the end of time.
@Get Real Politics "Arena Rock" I believe it's called
I will never forget our band, living in the BOSTON area, gathered around the record player and heart this together for the first time. We stood there, our jaws hanging open, looking at each other with big smiles on our faces. We tried to do it for a wedding reception soon after and could barely do it justice. Wonderful achievement!
If you want to do an Amazing Boston song that you may not have heard, try "Don't Look Back" from the second album.
That's an awesome song, one of my favs.
I just requested the same thing. It's their best, IMHO. The lyrics match up with the imagery that the music invokes in my mind. It just feels like being free, driving down the road with no cares, soaring angelic.
Don't Look Back was originally to be on the first album but had to be cut because there was no more room on the vinyl.
That song was my fave when I was 7!
It made the one hair on my left nut stand up!
George Strait
- The Chair
- Ocean Front Property
- Fool Hearted Memory
- The Fireman
- I Cross My Heart
GIVE THESE SONGS A LISTEN PLZ?
Chief Sosa The Chair is one of my fav songs of all time...the lyrics are incredible
Absolutely love this song and Boston. Even though they weren't allowed in my house during the Stanley Cup Final.
When I was a kid the Guitar in Boston was like the voice of an Angel singing pure sweet rock and roll to the soul.
Boston's first album was a classic. It was pure magic that only comes around once every so often. I love all genres of music. Good stuff is good stuff.
Probably my favorite song from Boston. Looking to do more Gojira reactions any time soon guys? :)
Born in winter!!!!
@@chubbysurprise4429 They still haven´t reacted to Where Dragons Dwell live from Hellfest 2013. That one would blow their brains away!
No live songs please... How about just Esoteric Surgery or Oroborous
@@gnarkilleptic4871 I suppose you have never seen the performance I am talking about. They have only played that song once live as far as I know and it´s very good.
Esoteric Surgery or Born in Winter for DAMN sure!
I am also thinking Kansas like a few others... Carry on my Wayward Son.
Yes!!!!
Dust In The Wind
They did that one
Seen Boston twice in concert and this was the first album I ever bought! 👍🏻😁🎸❤
I have heard this song a million times and i will never get tired of it!!
One of my fav bands in the late 70's. Every song on their albums is good.
Finally !!! Such a great song!!!! Reminds me of laying out in the sun on Pensacola Beach Fl in the 80s ... no sunscreen, just tanning oil !!!! ON Q 100 ! Love you guys!!
Damn, bring back the good times. For me it was Daytona Beach. Those memories always return when I smell coconut oil.....and the Hawaiian Tropic girls handing out free samples.
Really? How old are you? Your pic looks like you're about 22. Anyway, great memory you've shared. Seems we can all put ourselves somewhere at a really good place and time when reminiscing songs of Boston. 😀
I was 5 years old when I heard this band...they were the originators of this clean rock sound.
Whether it was the late 70's or 80's, those classic guitar-centered songs just kick a$$. Timeless. Rock on!!
Amen!!!!
If you see this do more Alice in chains. Do Man in the box
They’ll go crazy over the guitar solo and his voice for sure
My man
Man in the box will melt their faces.
Or Angry Chair
Would. That bass
"Marianne put that THANG THANG on him..."
And that's how all great rock ballads are created. lol
You guys are authentic and genuine, keep keeping it real.
Request: Led Zeppellin
1) Black Dog
2) Trampled Under Foot
C. Espi
1) Good Times, Bad Times (for Jimmy’s incredible and frankly, practically unplayable solo, and unlike 99.9% of songs, it has a different riff underneath each time the verses come back. Classic Zep)
2) When the Levee Breaks (For Bonzo’s unequaled awesomeness and unique beat, and the great riffs Jimmy goes into to end Robert’s slowed down bluesy and funky kickass lyrics.)
They did some Zeppelin but it was chopped up because "Zeppelin" didn't approve. 😥
I love When the Levee breaks!
Zeppelin Fool in the Rain
You should checkout the cover of Black Dog by Steelheart. It is a masterpiece.
Try Smokin for some cool organ/keys or (my fav Boston tune) Hitch A Ride for killer f’n guitar
Boston was a once in a lifetime band . Masterful, just Masterful !!!! I grew up listening to the great 70's music, loved all of it, but these guys and their sound was just on a whole different level all themselves. Like there will never be another Jordan, there will never be another Boston..... love your reactions guys
Boston - Don't Look Back is another one of my favorites by them. The song and the Whole album.
Tom Shcholz did EVERYTHING besides vocals! GENIUS!!
They had the cleanest recording sounds ever. Voice of Demp is legendary! Jamming album and definitely a crank up! They were original for their time and epic in concert. Thanks for covering! Try Smoking by them!
The original mix of this entire album still holds up today. Such a masterful job of engineering and mixing.
One of those classic tunes I never tire of.
An absolutely musically perfect album ! Tom Scholz also helped invent the RockMan and the Kodak one step.
This, for my money, is the greatest male vocal ever laid to tape. In a basement home studio. Just crazy. RIP to the late, great Brad Delp. Greatest singer I ever heard.
When it came out we'd never heard anything like it.
This song still lives on because it’s more than a feeling
Boston is simply amazing! Tom Scholz, who created their sound, actually attended MIT! I appreciate the reactions to music I grew up with and so dearly love!
So thankful that I was born in '74 and that this was the music of my childhood, and that I don't know a world without this song, and all the music of that era.
Oh love me some Boston, got hooked in 6th grade by my best friend Tori Boston 😁. Y'all need to delve into some ELO (electric light orchestra) from 70s
Yessssss!!! Not (m)any RUclipsrs out there doing ELO. That's classic.
Quote: in an interview Scholtz was asked who Marianne was ? He replied “there actually is a Marianne . She wasn’t a girlfriend but actually she was an older cousin when he was 8 or 9 she was the most Beautiful girl he had ever seen and he was secretly in love with her laugh.
Boston IS EVERYTHING ABOUT CLASSIC ROCK!!! It was beautifully made with a lot of talent. Still rockin today! Just an all around feel good song with lyrics sung with emotion beyond their years!!! Love Boston here in Missouri!!! ❤❤❤
