I love how Fran is in his own little world just vibing and bobbing his head to the song while he plays. You can tell he's having a blast playing. They all were!! This song will live on for Eternity!! Rest easy now, Brad, you did great. Rest In Peace!

@twincams350 this is Boston urban legend BS. Tom does not play all of the instrument tracks on this record except drums nor did Tom write all the songs on this record. All of Brads vocals were recorded at Capital Studios Studio C in CA. Let Me Take You Home was recorded at The Record Plant LA by the band as pictured on the back of the record. Barry plays electric rhythm guitar on Foreplay, Long Time and Let Me Take You Home. Barry plays lead guitar on Long Time, and he plays lead and slide guitars on Let Me Take You Home. Fran plays bass on Foreplay and Brad plays 12 string acoustic guitar on Let Me Take You Home. Producer John Boylan's interview in Mix Magazine is a good source. The legal documents for the law suits between Tom and Barry are a good source, and the liner notes from the 2006 Scholz remaster of the debut Boston record are good sources.
@@neechee5150 , I don't have easy access to the sources you mentioned, and perhaps that is by design? Numerous sources on the web, including wikipedia and an actual videotaped interview with Tom Sholz in his actual basement studio back up what I've written. Wikipedia is a well-vetted source, and includes references to corroborate everything in it. In cases where more sources are needed, they actually state that as a disclaimer (but no such disclaimer is given for their Boston entry).
Tom wrote all the music, all the lyrics, played all of the instruments, even created new technology for the amps and basically hired band members to play and sing his music. He could do it all in the studio to produce albums, but the music became big and there was a demand for tours, so he had to get a band. Brad Delp was a phenomenal singer. Boston is my all time favorite band.
The entire album is a Rock-n-Roll MASTERPIECE imo. Whenever I hear Boston I'm reminded how fortunate I was to grow up in the 70's. Such a great decade of music! I need to upload more Boston to my channel. R.I.P. Brad Delp and Sib Hashian
"Legend has it they still holding that note." 😂😂😂❤ When I saw that you were reacting to this song, I *knew* you were going to stop multiple times and run it back to hear it again. I'm so glad I was right. You represent ALL OF US who listened to it for the first time. Loved your reaction! Edited to add a Boston suggestion you asked for: Honestly? Their whole first album. You won't be disappointed. 😊
@@m.ericwatson968 13 year gap before Fear Inoculum to come out, which is what first got me hooked on them. So I wasn't one of the poor souls waiting that long, but I'd have to think it was worth the wait. Absolutely fantastic album.
The thing is, Tom did most of the instruments IN STUDIO, but when live, they had to hire in "extras" to play some of the parts, so it would be accurate to only credit the core members. So, you see why they could call themselves Boston ... they represented in the best way !!!
It's fun to watch people's first reaction to Boston. Every song on that album is classic. Whenever I'm in the car and it comes on the radio I always turn it up to 10
The 'band ' was formed after the album was released. The album was recorded in a basement and when it was successful a band had to be formed in order to tour.
The reason why it's 3 guys credited is because Tom Scholz wrote, performed, and produced all of the music except the drums (Sib). Brad provided the vocals. The other two had nothing to do with the recording. They were acquired to create the band for live performances. The recording you're listening to is the recording created and mixed in Tom's basement with he own equipment. Look up the story behind Tom Scholz, you won't be disappointed.
Craziest part was that not only did Tom write the songs and record pretty much all the instruments....but he was an engineer and built most of the equipment/gear he recorded it with. shit is crazy
Best time, to me anyways, to listen to this song is just as you are off work as the sunsets with the city night life set to wake up. Best time to play this song, it's a mood setting song.
Back when you reacted to Journey, you asked the MOB who else in Rock had a great voice? I suggested Boston. Some of the best rock vocals ever. Really nice drums too, love the triple-crash cymbals in the middle, and again near the end. This is a great all around band. "More Than A Feeling" is my favorite of their songs. Boston has a lot of other great songs. "Foreplay/Longtime" comes to mind. Also "Peace Of Mind". Boston is a great example of mid-70's "Semi-Progressive Rock", music that's skillful, intelligent, excessible, and popular.
In the 70s there were 7 of us and our girlfriends and whenever Boston was in concert within 250 miles of us we went to the concerts. I saw them numerous times in Raleigh and Durham, NC, Charlotte, NC, Atlanta GA, Bristol TN and Nashville TN. Back then in the mid to late 70s there was no "white and black music. It was just (our) music. Our music then as now only had positive meanings. It's great to see all these podcasts finding out now what we have known for almost 50 years. And what you heard in concert was exactly what you heard on the radio, LP, or 8track. It's refreshing to see today's generation learning the positive meanings of our 60s and 70s music.
Boston absolutely qualifies as one of the biggest bands of all time, they invented sounds and techniques that are taken for granted today but everyone uses. They fundamentally changed music as we knew it. And god DAMN could Brad Delp sing.
Tom Scholz recorded most of this album by himself playing all the instruments and Brad Delp did the vocals. When they toured they used different road musicians so they could put on concerts.
@@ZFlyingVLover Tom auditioned for Barry's band back in 69/70. Barry introduced Brad to Tom in 69/70, and Brad, Barry, Jim Masdea and Tom played what would become the songs as we hear on the record live in clubs and they did demos of these songs for years before this record was recorded. Barry plays guitar on three tracks on this record. Barry plays electric rhythm guitar on Foreplay, Long Time and Let Me Take You Home and Barry plays lead guitar on Long Time and lead and slide guitars on Let Me Take You Home. Tom had to be more clear, more upfront and obfuscate less when it came to release the 2006 remaster of this record. After the lawsuits between Barry and Tom occurred, Tom had be much more careful when he put it in print and published how this record came to be and who did what on it.
I was born in '90. I grew up listening to this song since my earliest memories. I knew BOSTON existed before I knew Los Angeles existed. Lol. This is my all-time favorite song. My six year old loves it, and we still jam it in the car to this day. Don't worry. Boston reps Boston well. 😊 I've loved, not just their title tracks, but also the rest of their music as well for as far back as I can remember! This band shaped my childhood right up there with Journey!
On the original recording, Tom Sholz played everything himself in his home studio. He wrote and played all the instruments and Brad Delp sang the vocals. When they got a contract, Tom Sholz got together a band to play live.
I came here just to see your reaction to Brad Delps vocals, in particular his high notes. Was not disappointed. Your reaction was 1000% the proper reaction on a 1st time listen and it never gets old 30 years later. His voice BLENDS PERFECTLY with the guitars where you can't tell if it's him or the guitar! Check out *RICK BEATO* channel review of this song, he singles out the TRACKS and you can hear how PURE and PERFECT Brad's voice is. As good as MANY other vocalists are I've never heard them match an instrument like Delp does.
30 years later? I was a teenager when I listened to this song, I’m 67 now, I think it’s close to 50 now. Still a great song. I love this whole album, it takes me back to my youth days. Especially when I close my eyes and reminisce I feel totally like I’m back in time with my old friends.
Tom played acoustic, electric and bass (and organ) 18:06 on the album. Sid played drums on the album and Brad did all the vocals. Fran and Barry were part of the touring band only. Tom played electric guitar and organ live.
FM radio started to become big, and college radio is where I first heard of Boston in the fall of 1976, attending a mid-west co-ed school... after Tom turned his finished master in to Columbia Records, the suits needed a band for a tour, hence who you see here...."no static at all"⭐
It was also when we started having quadraphonic broadcasts. Many of the surrounding type effects were for that purpose. It’s part of why bohemian rhapsody was so popular. It moved around your car. I don’t know the technology, I just remember the experience and when it all started.
I have never met one person who didn't at least like this song and most love it as one of their lifetime favorites. I'm so glad I grew up in the Era of peak rock and roll. I might be an old man but I'm a cool old man who heard the best stuff as soon as it hit the shelves. A real masterpiece. Great reaction. You just earned a subscriber.
I love that you had to go back after the start. Yes, it's just this amazing to listen to today as the first day it came out. RIP Brad, you will never be forgotten and missed every day! ♥
Bradley Delp is the greatest Rock singer of all time. "A man ill never be" is a great song to hear him. Mickey Thomas is another incredible singer that you may like, hes in the band Starship! Great song from starship is "I didn't mean to stay all night". Thank you for everything!!
EVERYONE I have watched react to Boston reacts the same way. They start out listening with just a little bit of interest and then "BAM!" Brad Delp's voice and the band's unique sound just blows them away. Love it! All the songs on this debut album were incredible. More Boston, please!
He played everything on the Album, the band you see is the touring band and member that put some parts to some songs on the second album. Tom wrote everything, they did it live and they did it good. I saw them on the reunion tour in 86' and 87'. Great memories. Thamks
@joeheffernan5268 False. Tom did not play all of the instrument tracks on this record. Tom did not play a single drum track on this record and the record is so much better for that fact. Sib plays drums on all of the tracks except one. Barry plays guitar on three tracks. Fran plays bass on two tracks and Brad plays acoustic 12 string guitar on one track. The band as you seen them on the back of this record recorded the Song Let Me Take You Home before this record was finished and then released.
It took him five years because he wrote the entire album and played every instrument except drums, and recorded every track himself on every song. Brad was brought in to do the vocals. And even invented the guitar pedal that gives Boston its distinct sound.
Boston today is less a band and more a studio project that tours w/ session players, all directed by Tom Scholz (guitar)... Tragically, both original singer Brad Delp and drummer Sib Hashian (who played on the first 2 Boston albums) have passed away... Delp recorded a 3rd Boston album '3rd stage' in 1986 before leaving the band. He took his own life in 2007... Sib Hashian died in 2017. Tom Scholz was a genius student at M.I.T. around 1969 when he started work on music, playing guitar and writing songs in his basement studio that he built in the early 70's. He worked w/ Brad Delp (vocals) who also played guitar and future Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau to record his music... Scholz played guitar, bass and keyboards... When he didn't get the sound he wanted, he used his engineering skills to make the sounds happen w/ the electronics. However, the music industry rejected the Boston demos in 1973. In 1975, there was label interest, but Scholz did not have an actual band... So, he and Brad Delp got Sib Hashian (drums), Frank Sheehan (bass) and Barry Goudreau (guitar) to showcase the songs in a live setting and got a deal... Scholz insisted he finish the record in his studio and played most of the instruments on the first Boston album (Sib Hashian played drums and Brad Delp did lead vocals and some guitar). In 1976, the debut album by Boston was released and became a massive hit on radio - it would sell 17 million copies in the US to date and became a classic record... the band went on tour and were a sensation. With over 10 million copies of the first Boston album sold, the pressure was on to deliver a 2nd record, and the band delivered "Don't look back" in 1978... It was another hit and sold 3 million copies. However, Tom Scholz was unhappy w/ the record and felt it sold less because it was "rushed"... He insisted on taking his time for the next Boston album. Years passed and Boston were still in limbo... Goudreau, Hashian and Sheehan ended up quitting the band as Scholz switched labels and finally delivered the album '3rd stage' in 1986... it sold another 3 million copies, and Boston toured w/ new members... Brad Delp ended up leaving the band for personal reasons by 1990. Boston was also involved in a lawsuit w/ their former label in the 80's that was resolved by 1990 in Scholz's favor. Scholz recruited new musicians and singers for the 'Walk on' album in 1994, but even w/ Brad Delp contributing some vocals to the record, it was a commercial disappointment... Tom Scholz carried on recording new Boston albums w/ various musicians, released years apart (the next album 'Corporate America' came out in 2002)... There was talk about Brad Delp rejoining Boston (he would perform w/ them on tour from time to time) but he ended up committing suicide in 2007.
I was 16 when my girlfriend bought me the Boston album. Slammed it on the turntable and cranked it up. First track - More Than A Feeling, followed by Peace of Mind then the epic Foreplay/Long Time. Blew. My. Freaking. Mind. (And still does). I must have played that trio of songs at least a dozen times before my mother cracked it and shut me down for the night. That first hearing of this amazing album is etched deep into my DNA. Glad to see people still having the same reaction nearly 5 decades later!
The three names you mention were involved in the recording of the album. The guys you see on stage were the touring band. Also note that the late Sib Hashian on drums was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's father-in-law.
Boston was always one of my favorites that i have enjoyed listening to over the years. so neat to see others first reaction to a great song and band, now that you know of them you can now enjoy there songs and music over the years as well, i think you will like some of there other songs as well.
Probably best concert I ever went to. They were incredible. The coolest part is you interact with their music. Certain songs have a clap in it. This is one. During the chorus, you can hear the claps.
Hehehe "Boston".. It was easy to take the name of the band for granted when the music itself was so incredible. I was a child then about to hit my teens when they came around. Very popular in dance parties. Good times... Oh... My... That is a good 'rabbit hole' to fall into... Enjoy!!! Thanks for bringing them back señor! ❤😊
Scholz wrote every song on the first album all by himself. He also played every instrument of every song on the album, the only exception is the drums, which the record company made him redo. He also built his entire studio by himself, including inventing new audio processing equipment which he sold as a guitar pedal for decades. When the album hit the charts, there was no Chicago, just Scholz and Delp, they needed to hire a band before they could tour.
Tom Scholz played pretty much everything on the album, but Brad Delp is the lead vocalist/guitars/keyboards, Sib Hashian-drums, Barry Goodreux-guitars/vocals, and Fran Sheehan is the bass player in the band in this video plus on Don't Look Back!

Each year that goes by ....this song just gets better.
Agree
I love this song and now that old song they used to play is this now Brilliant guys i love them !
This is the type of music that should end wars and bring peace to the world, lol
Great Musicians vocals!@@ I was a kid when they came out...i am 70!😂❤❤
"Legend has it they still holding that note." 😂😂😂❤ When I saw that you were reacting to this song, I *knew* you were going to stop multiple times and run it back to hear it again. I'm so glad I was right. You represent ALL OF US who listened to it for the first time. Loved your reaction!
Edited to add a Boston suggestion you asked for: Honestly? Their whole first album. You won't be disappointed. 😊
Guy, I loved your reaction to those high notes. Made my day. Great job on the video.
BOSTON:BOSTON is a must own, and is widely considered among the greatest debut albums in history!
When I listen to Boston it makes me so happy. This is my go-to cleaning music!
Everything Boston did was fantastic. Another great one showcasing Brad Delp's amazing vocals was A Man I'll Never Be.
This is such an iconic 70’s rock song. The song gives you a feeling and more…
They were the touring band you see. In studio, those three did everything.
All of these guys were so gifted. Good on you to notice this!
When Boston first came out, we all got hooked, wanting more, but they made us wait forever for a 2nd album
Which turned out to be Album 1, Part 2
We all got hooked, as a kid you couldn't escape it on the FM radio, and it was always welcome, never got tired of this song
There was only a two-year gap between the first two albums. Imagine being a TOOL fan waiting for their next album LOL!
@@PongGod I've been a Tool fan since Opiate, each in between took longer, then 13 years, I'd all but given up with Perfect Circle and Puscifer
@@m.ericwatson968 13 year gap before Fear Inoculum to come out, which is what first got me hooked on them. So I wasn't one of the poor souls waiting that long, but I'd have to think it was worth the wait. Absolutely fantastic album.
enough rock to melt your face off! prime air guitar and air drum territory
Whenever I'm in the car and it comes on the radio I always turn it up to 10
One of the greatest rock songs of all time!!!!!
True that!!!
Tom did everything in the basement for the recording of the album after that when they went to live performances the whole band played.
That was a display of vocal ability. Having fun and showing off. Just awesome.
Legit one of the greatest debut albums in music history. The entire album is absolute perfection.
I’d add Lou Gramm’s voice too. Perry, Delp, Gramm.
Now get in your car hit the highway and blast this song! Such a great feeling! Been doing it since my teenage years in the 80s’ this song is timeless!
Tom Scholz recorded most of this album by himself playing all the instruments and Brad Delp did the vocals. When they toured they used different road musicians so they could put on concerts.
goudreau, the 2nd guitarist, was in a competitor band to Scholz band and then came over to be in boston
After hearing this song for a million times times I forget how STUNNING this is for the first time listener! REALLLY enjoying your reactions!❤😂
On the original recording, Tom Sholz played everything himself in his home studio. He wrote and played all the instruments and Brad Delp sang the vocals. When they got a contract, Tom Sholz got together a band to play live.
You have to do more Boston reactions. Iconic band. Genius musicians and Tom is an MIT graduate.
Such an iconic group of my childhood!
Yeah, this is probably my favorite BOSTON song 🎵 and one of my Favorite SONGS OF ALL TIME. GREAT TUNE
The whole first album is truly classic. Listen to the whole 1st album and get ready to be blown away! The 2nd album is also very good.
I was waiting to see your reaction to this song!❤❤😂😂
Yeah dude, he DID hit that super high note.
We used to call Boston's first 2 albums, bostons GREATEST HITS volume 1 and 2.
Boston in 1976. Barry Goudreau, Tom Scholz, Sib Hashian, Brad Delp, Fran Sheehan.
I love your show , you make me laugh in a good way , you are fun, I loved that song to. 😂❤
Tom Scholz was a genius and Brad Delp's vocals were amazing. Boston was magic.
So glad you liked this amazing song. This is one of the greatest songs ever written. It's a beautiful rock song!
Boston, has arguably, the greatest debut album of all time. That entire Album is off the hook.
Love Boston! If you haven't yet...try out Kansas "carry on wayward son" the video of them singing.... you'll really enjoy that one.
He played everything on the Album, the band you see is the touring band and member that put some parts to some songs on the second album. Tom wrote everything, they did it live and they did it good. I saw them on the reunion tour in 86' and 87'. Great memories. Thamks
He didn't play the drums
I wore my LP completely out.
Tom Scholz was an MIT musical genius. He made the siren affects on the guitar in this song.
The three names you mention were involved in the recording of the album. The guys you see on stage were the touring band. Also note that the late Sib Hashian on drums was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's father-in-law.
When it was released, Boston was the best selling debut album ever!
I have some good memories from the early 80s where you had some good speakers in your car and crank up Boston and played it loud.
Every song on that first album killer. The 70s were the BEST.
The sixties were dang good too 😅
Hehehe "Boston"..
Had this great music on 8 track!! Played it all day every day!!
I still remember vivedly when that song, and the album came out. So very cool to see young people, like yourself, being mezmerized by it in the same way I was way back then.
Their masterpiece from this album is Foreplay/Long Time.
True. MTAF is my favorite emotionally but F/LT is 1st artistically & compositionally.
F/LT is a Gumbo of many music styles, classical, jazz, rock, country(hand claps), Metal, R&B, Disco...yes Disco!
It's been a long time is by Boston
Thank you for the instant respect when Brad started his siren song
I saw them in 1979 Texas Jam Dallas Tx cotton bowl 80 Thousand people Van Halen opened and Boston closed it was truly incredible I still remember it like it was yesterday I've got so many memories and so many cool stories it was the Best of the Best that era of Rock an Roll was the cream of the crop love your reaction now that's Rock an Roll JTH
