    I'm not in this category of club. I play the 718 AP1s and that's where I belong. Regardless, I watched this video from start to finish simply because I appreciate the knowledge you share with us. Keep the videos coming fellas. You all are the best on the net and gear heads like myself truly appreciate what you do.

    I went out on a limb and ordered these 785's without ever hitting or seeing Srixon irons in person before. I watched your guys first review of them and ordered them right away in a shaft I like. Needless to say I LOVE them. Played the p770's last year and these are bar none the nicest irons I've ever played.
    Ordered the 585 in my 4-5 iron and man are they sweet as well. Sounds like a fire cracker goes off when you hit them. Makes your good strikes feel extra powerful.
    I highly recommend Srixon iron to anyone looking at a new forged players set of irons. I'm a 6 Handicap and they are perfect for me

    Your explanation of sole width and turf interaction explains a lot as to why I always felt I hit my old Titleist Tour blades better than AP2s. Even with the higher lofts in the blades. I wish more fitters recognized this. I may have to take a look at the new Srixon.

    • @stuboy13
      @stuboy13 4 месяца назад

      Agreed. I've hit AP1 and AP3 before. They were ok for me, but for some reason I hit them thin or a little low in the face, almost all the time.
      I went to an old Titleist 735.cm combo set with CB 3i-7i and blade short irons and hit them further and cleaner, loft for loft. I am shallow and my miss on the ball is front to back - mainly hitting fat. I can't flush a wide sole such is my inconsistent ball striking. Even though I am far from elite, I somehow hit these heavy stiff shafted thin forged irons better than anything I've tried before.

    I got fitted for these 2 weeks ago. They beat out Muira CB, Taylormade P760's, Callaway Apex Pro, Titleist CB, and Mizuno MP-18 SC's in feel and performance for me.
    Absolutely love these!

    • @therealeb33
      @therealeb33 5 лет назад

      I hit the 919 Tour, P760, AP1, 919 Forged, Apex Pro and the MP18 SC/MMC. The SC/MMC ended up performing the best for me, but Mizuno stopped taking special orders for the MMC as I was fit into the DGX100 120G with Mizuno's shaft optimizer. I had previously bought 790's, but saw it was hard to hold greens with that type of shaft. My fitter picked out the 785's for the last part of my fitting, and they by far felt better and performed better then all of the clubs noted above. I can't wait for them to come in. Only regret is, I wish I would've hit the 585's for potentially having them as my 4 and 5 iron.

    Was waiting for your review on new Srixon'sI have combo set ZU65 3 / Z565 4-6 / Z765 7-AW. Really like the look of new irons, but I think as play in usually softer turf conditions in Scotland, and in mid 50's,the slightly wider sole in 765 series will fair me better.Once again excellent review

    I have the 745 irons. I was so excited to try the 765s, then so disappointed at the size of the head as it was bigger around the toe. Srixon seem to have returned to the smaller 745 size head with the 785s. I have tried so many irons, but so far I haven't found anything to replace my 745s, but the look of the 2019 Z Forged blade......WOW!!!

    Agree on the comments about 919. Have tried all 3 - Hot Metal took me a while to get used to but is impressive, Forged is the straightest iron I have ever hit but biggest surprise was the Tour. I am not the quality of player it is aimed at (sadly) but it is so easy to hit. Very difficult to find Srixon stockists here in the UK

    Very interesting. I just switched from a Z765 / Z965 combo to a Z785 4 - P set, and I find the new Z785’s softer at impact, smaller blade like look, more forgiving and easier to hit high shots with. I think Srixon took the best of both Worlds, and created a fusion of 765 forgiving, with a look, feel and shot shape ability of the 965...

  • @Raymond-sj7cn
    @Raymond-sj7cn 6 лет назад

    For me the Srixon Z785 were in the mix for my new irons but with the Miazaki and the Recoil 785 both in stiff the flight was very high. I have to go to new irons because graphite is better for my joints but the Z785 head didn’t work well for me with the two graphite shafts that were available . But the Z785 was a very good looking iron, supersoft feeling and very very very easy to hit... a pity that here in the Netherlands there isn’t a fitting facility like yours with 50-50 graphite-steel iron shafts because with the right shaft the Z785 would have been a great new iron. Now MP18 with recoil 95 F4 or Project X LZ tour graphite 6.0

    Great video! I would love to see Z545 vs Z585 because most of us steep players didn’t switch at the Z565 because they were so similar. As you both talk about shallow swings on the 785 benefiting you both think about if the 585 will benefit us 545 players want to switch because we waited a few years (4)but is it worth the switch?

  • @devinwright131
    @devinwright131 6 лет назад +1

    As a 2-3 handicap with strengths in iron play I can't recommend 785's enough! It was a little leap of faith coming from the P770 but I'm getting more reliable distance and I can actually consistently fade the ball to target when I need to with the Z785's (naturally a slight draw player).
    However, I would highly recommend testing the long irons. My 5i-4i gap tightened just a little bit when I switched from the P770. Unfortunately I'm a lefty so there's never a full set to test anywhere. But if you're a righty, give the 585 long irons a try! I'm probably going to buy a 585 4i soon just to see what happens....

    Curious about the spin numbers in the video for a six iron. Most fitting education I’ve received is to strive for the 1,000 equivalent to the iron (eg 6,000 rpm for six iron). Granted this slightly changes based on modern lofts, but I’m curious what spin numbers we should be striving for in a fitting given loft, launch, ball speed, decent angle, etc. Any chart I’ve seen online is either outdated (re Trackman) or incomplete. Keep up the great work fellas. Top notch content!

    • @grimwalrus9410
      @grimwalrus9410 6 лет назад

      Agree the spin seems a little low and it has done in other tests I've watched with the Srixons. The peak height and descent mean it will stop but I'd worry about flier lies. Is it just the shaft you've got in there dragging in down?

    • @PuFecto
      @PuFecto 6 лет назад

      I have the same irons & do find them to be quite low spin. I believe they're a hair stronger than traditional lofts which maybe nudges the spin down slightly

    The heel section of the z785 sole looks more narrow. I own the 765's and love them, but they have a tendency to go left ( right handed player). I've noticed this is some of the reviews, and with friends that also play these irons. Even offsetting this tendency with lower lie angel, it still loves turning over (my path hovers near zero). Whats your thoughts on this sole refinement around the hosel, did you see some of these tendencies in the older z765? Almost like the heel grabs a bit and wants to shut the face down.

    Good review but "Turf Interaction" when your club head speed with a 6 iron is around 100 MPH on indoor turf makes that a bit hard to comprehend. Do you think hitting off mats or indoor turf affects spin compared to grass?

    Hi guys! love the videos, so glad i found this channel! Been playing for just over one year now and got the HC to 12 using a borrowed set of mizuno JPX800 with stiff steel shafts. I've just decided to invest in a fitting in Scotland up at Archerfield performance center. My question is what i should be asking my fitter to get me hitting higher spin and apex shots. My irons at the moment have a low piercing trajectory which make it difficult for me to hold greens from distance on my home course in Spain. Numbers with 5 iron, 85mph, 165 carry, 5100rpm, with a 55ft apex. I do have a pretty steep angle of attack a -5 degree due to a little bit of forward sway. Any help would be appreciated! Subscribed and recommended to a few golfer friends!

    I am a little confused by the turf interaction comments. As I understand (from another one of your guys' great videos) it you don't really enter the turf until 3-4" after hitting the ball and the ball is only in contact with the club face for milliseconds. That being said, could you explain how the width of the sole and turf interaction has anything to do with shallow -vs- steep and contact?

    • @keithfinley2939
      @keithfinley2939 6 лет назад

      I think it's on fat strikes

    • @craigmenke1
      @craigmenke1 6 лет назад +1

      I can see that on an outright chunk but I don’t think you’d maintain that kind of ball speed on that strike.
      Also, Matty (I think we can cal him that) mentioned that he felt the wider sole may have cause him to turn it over more, which adds more confusion to this topic. I’m thinking it’s more to do with weight distribution heel to toe. Good chance to use the new tech and map this iron head!!
      It would be cool to see high speed camera setup in conjunction with everything else.

    I am in the market for new irons this year. Lots of great options out there, almost too many. Did Ian say that these irons would be comparable to the Mizuno 919 forged? These look more "Player like" than the 919 in my opinion, so I'm kind of surprised to hear that. If they play similarly I will definitely put these on the list to try, I love the look of these!

    Would the sole designs on srixon irons be bad for someone who picks the ball and takes very small divots if any?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад +1

      Not necessarily, that type of sole design is quite good for a shallow angle of attack

    Nice review. So is Matt getting new irons? Subtle difference with respect to numbers, but more noticeable in terms of feel and contact. Nice insight of impact of sole width and turf interaction depending on whether your swing is shallow or steep.

      Might be!

      Keep us updated. Would be nice if you could do a video on the more subtle influences on golf club selection from a fitters perspective e.g feel, quality of contact, tightness of dispersion, height, spin, predictability, etc.

    What makes one pick a "players iron" like the 785 vs the 585?

  • @glennsmith7897

    Love the comparison guys 👍
    I am considerinf upgrading from the Z545 to the Z785 as my swing has improved a lot since before I put the Z545 in my bag
    Do you think this could be a good decision? (I would be getting fit for them before any purchase)
    Thanks for the good info as always

      Certainly could be Glenn, go for a fitting with an open mind and see how they perform for you!

    So interesting how a good player like myself who isn't a great iron player, good but not great, would assume I need thicker bottom iron. However I am always shallow or thin & barely nick the turf. Could benefit with thinner bottom. Wish you guys had made it to Halifax a year ago like was showing promise. I'll try to make it when visiting back in Toronto visiting friends if possible
