Just got fit into these yesterday and wow was my dispersion amazing. They weren't even on my radar when I went into the fitting and the fitter said I just want you to try these. Tried Apex Pro, Mizuno Forged, AP2, and Z 785 that was the fitters choice and hit them in that order. Apex Pro I loved the look and feel as well as the ball flight. Did get a bit more distance but dispersion was not great. Didn't get along with the Mizuno or or the AP2 at all. Then came the Srixon...the dark horse. 11 shots smoothing a 6 iron 165. 3 yards front to back dispersion and none were more than 5 yards off target line. Hit the 12th shot and said right away it was a bit off the toe. Turned around and my fitter was just smirking and said...it's right in the center of your dispersion circle. Sold! Went back to the Apex Pro a couple of times with different shafts and tightened up the dispersion a bit but still no where near the Srixon. It was an outdoor testing and I think i was really seeing/feeling the benefit of that V sole. Get custom fit and go in with an open mind! I really wanted to Apex Pro but numbers don't lie. Srixon has great feel and is quite forgiving actually. Wasn't hitting the ball great and only pured 1 or 2 of the shots but they all hit my distance. Not going to leave anything drastically short and won't get any jumpers either. Can't wait to get out and play em once they come in.
i game the older version ... aw - 6 745 .... 5-4 545 ... 23* driving iron u65 18* driving iron u85 .. and drop 5wood and 3 wood .. and only driver ... loving the feel of them
Here is the thing with spin numbers. What the launch monitor does, is calculate spin from the angle of the face, the compression of the ball and club head speed. It CANNOT see what type of grooves are on the face, which all of the newer clubs have the best grooves ever these days. It also cannot see the dimple pattern on the ball, which does affect it as well. Some balls spin better than others. I ignore the spin numbers on launch monitor data.
Can anyone explain why loft gapping is less for the longer clubs and more for the shorter clubs? I would have thought it's more advantage the other way ie more options for different distances, more accuracy for shorter shots? I would have thought 2° at the top end would not give much variation/difference between 2/3/4 irons...????
In my eyes the 785 looked much better behind the ball than 585. Especially the longer irons 585 did look too bulky. On a 7-iron toe miss I lose maybe 5 meters and heel 10 meters which is more than fine. I have 5-iron to PW 785 and U85 2-iron and 4-iron. All clubs are fantastic. About 10 meter longer shots than with my Hogan Apex Redlines from the late 80:s. If I remember correctly those Apex were 2 degrees stronger loft than standard from shop.
Hey buddy .... can u do one thing even as an average player ... hit 15 balls... first 5 just normal shots .... next 5 with club head just a fraction open in setup .... last 5 fraction closed ... very minor .... then u will see why those instead of 585 ... control it is ... also u can try this test on those ;)
Andy didn't you think that the sole on the 585 was noticeably wider than 785? I thought for sure you would have picked the 785. If an above average golfer like yourself wouldn't play them, then maybe I should rethink my options. Loving your channel.
Isn't TP5 quite a low spin ball generally? Plus were the clubface and ball totally dry..just wondering if they'd been washed and still damp so perhaps that's giving slightly less spin rate numbers?
I think some irons just look right. For example, original eye 2s just suit my eye. Not really that "forgiving" but I strike them better than G series or i series...
Hi Andy, a great review as always. As you know I have the 765s as you did. I can't see much of a difference to upgrade...I actually think these look slightly worse than the 765? I do enjoy mine and can't me changing soon. Looking forward to the reviews on the woods.
@@ianharris32 How is the distance control/consistency on the short/scoring irons? I'm a 10, and debating going all 585 or splitting with 585/785 somewhere in the set?
Great review. Srixon is the new black. Pretty good distance control though given your strike reservations? And dispersal great. So the data contradicts your thoughts about it? Maybe the “look” just is more intimidating?
Yes for a while, I think I could game the 785's but I feel the 585's would give me more help and I would be giving up very little in terms of profile and feel
you want to see the ball start lower and a more penetrating flight. The pros like Rory or Tiger hit crazy high shots because their ball speed is so high. Their shots start low though but rise forever.
I'm going to have to go off watching videos until ballflight gets added back in. Watching someone swing towards me and with nothing to see makes it useless. You might as well not swing at all just throw data on screen and end it.
Who is this dude? Why would I listen to someone who has a golf swing like a beginner? His feet are moving all over the place, has no extension or lower body into any of his shots. What a joke.
You would think the point of the average golfer channel would be to have testing done by someone with a swing comparable to an average club golfer. Derr.

Difference is in the sound and feel which is MAJOR !!! Get a clue.
I’m an average golfer. I love my 785s. Only the body is forged on the 585. I have mine with aerotech s i80 shafts.
Lovely clubs and I am sure you will enjoy

As I say ive never had an issue on the course and I will be surprised if I did with these
Great review as ever Andy, I have to say that these new Srixon Irons look stunning!

I have a mixed set..4, ZU85 , 5,6,7 Z585..6,9.PW Z785...they look and play great and I'm 68yo..nothing like forged clubs..
your sense is that there are more mishits with the 785's. What does the launch monitor show? Sometimes, feel is not real....

would u say these are less forgiving than the p760 or the 770 that u are using Andy?
No not less forgiving, I've only tried these once and would need to try more often to give a fair answer

Yes your right and this could be an issue which I need to check

If your strike is centre then nothing else matters in terms of forgivness

I would not change John, very hard to notice any difference
Great review as usual Andy, I haven't been able to hit either of these yet but in your opinion do the 585 have a bunch of offset?
not something that I really picked up on
Minimal offset.. I’m a plus handicap and prefer the 585s!

It performed very well David just didnt feel like I got the 'middle' as easily as I did the 585's
Maybe 585s for the 5,6 and 7 iron and the 785 for the 8,9 and wedge?
@@davidgroom9667 I think combo sets are a real option
The Average Golfer - thanks - useful info - just need to find where I can get custom fit near south london
Weren't you playing the 765's, any reason why you no longer think you can game the 785's? Can't but too much difference in the two sets
Yes for a while, I think I could game the 785's but I feel the 585's would give me more help and I would be giving up very little in terms of profile and feel
how would you compare the Z765 of two years ago to the 585 & 785's..?
Minor differences, I think the big improvement is in the 585's
specifically what is the improvement, Andy?
Funny how amateurs go on about lowering their ball flight, yet, when I go to PGA events the pros hit towering high iron shots !!.

Harder greens need higher flights
Nice Review, Srixon make great gear.
They do Jim
How do they compare to the MP5 Andy in terms of feel/forgiveness??
Similar feel, slightly bigger profile and maybe more forgiving hard to quantify
@@TheAverageGolfer Cheers. Great vids at the moment BTW 👍

Good club review. Thank you
I have these. They're awesome!
They are beautiful irons

Why don't you post your own video of your swing and let us judge you Mr pro.

He is the average golfer you dickhead. Not supposed to have Rorys swing. Actually his swing is one of the simplest I ever have seen and it works.
I like him!
