Jingles in fairness to the Vermont player, I think they were more concerned about dodging the two walls of torpedoes coming from the bow (which is why it was giving broadside) than shooting its guns at AsianDeathGod. Probably would have been better to fire and possibly take down the Sevastapol even if getting sunk by torps but in the heat of battle self-preservation even if momentary can take hold putting one in a very awkward or vulnerable position
when confronted with a certain outcome (the torpedo waves) and an uncertain once (dispersion from a ship on your broadside) - smarter captains choose to mitigate the certain threat while hoping the uncertain one sucks donkey balls.
It is funny though that at the moment jungles said that Vermont was ignoring AsianDeathGod, they zoomed in on the Vermont to see it have all 4 of its turrets, 12 guns of cruiser annihilating firepower aimed straight at the Sevastopols throat. But since the Vermont had just missed its earlier volley, it was stuck raging at his 30+ second reload.
I think better description of the sale of German 38cm weapons to the USSR is that they were to be DELIVERED by 1943, but the contracts, so to speak, were signed well before the invasion happened. Hitler must have been giggling inside as he approved the sale because he knew full well that his invasion would happen before delivery. The nature of Soviet-Nazi relations leading up to the invasion are extremely complicated, with both sides knowing the other was untrustworthy, but wanting to maintain the peace until they were ready for war, and so both were willing to continue to pretend that they were sincerely honoring the Non-Aggression Pact and trade deals. Strange things happen when you have two parties who absolutely don't trust each other determined to look as trustworthy as possible for the benefit of outsiders...
Actually Jingles the contract was not signed in 1943, but 1940. It was the German-Soviet Commerical Agreement. The Sevastapol was a total loss in 1943 after the Germans blew up her building slip and hull before leaving Nikolayev.
What Jingles was saying is the guns were scheduled to be delivered / installed in 1943, not that the agreement was signed that year. As he said, he who must not be named must have had his fingers crossed when signing the agreement.
3:35 No they really can't. The Schlieffen is no Death Star (that role goes to the Satsuma) but the Sevastapol most certainly cannot repel firepower of that magnitude. AsianDeathGod was indeed in a trap!
The correct name is 'Schlieffen', pronounced as 'Sh-leaf-fun' for English speakers. What you wrote would be pronounced as 'sh-ly-fun' and is more akin to 'schleifen': 'to grind, to sharpen' (as in an axe or a knife).
The Des Moines to the east was playing a very suspicious game, the hero of the video was undetected, yet the Des Moines was able to accruately shoot at him, and set him on fire -_-
Not really. Large ships have large turning circles and the hero of the vid was last seen sailing relatively straight, if you're referring to after he sank the sub, so getting a blind shot like that wouldn't be very hard. Or hell, the Des Moines has such slow arcs of shell flight that they likely fired before the hero went undetected and the shells only landed after. Not exactly suspicious, more annoying and good aim.

Negotiations began in February 1940, initially Stalin asked for Germans for the now out-of-production 283mm turrets, before being offered six turrets originally planned to rearm Scharnhorst and Gneisenau prior to the war, the reconstruction being cancelled before the war due to rising international tensions, before being earmarked for the O-class battlecruisers, which were cancelled in early 1940. The six turrets (for two ships) were ordered in November 1940, and were intended to be delivered between the 1st October 1941 and 28th February 1942 for the 1st turret, 2nd December 1941 and 31st March 1942 for the 2nd turret, 3rd February 1942 and 30th April 1942 for the 3rd turret, 4th May 1942 and 30th November 1942 for the 4th turret, 5th August and 31st December 1942 for the 5th turret, and 6th November and 28th March for the 6th and final turret. After Barbarossa these orders were obviously not going to be completed, and it was intended to convert Gneisenau with these turrets, but after Hitler's post Battle of the Barents Sea tantrum, these guns were instead used in Coastal Defences. Interestingly the Soviets began negotiating for the turrets before they had actually began design work to see if the turrets could be fitted to the Project 69s. Said design work only took place from April 1940 onwards, and the sketch design was only complete in October 1940, and the detailed design was not expected to be completed until October 1941, although both ships had been laid down in November 1939.
Airship escort missions are backwards. In reality it was the airships doing the escorting. Convoys with airship escort never successfully got attacked or lost any ships. The big slow airship would spot subs and send the escort destroyers to drive off them off. Availability and bad weather meant there were never enough airships to escort all the convoys. Airships could do something sea planes and destroyers could not. Move very slowly high up with 8 to 20 men watching the sea in all directions with very good binoculars. It was all about the angle and the relative movement. The subs even at periscope depth were visible as shadows with wakes. Or bioluminescent wakes at night.

Around the beginning of 1940. The Soviets realised that the 305's that they were originally supposed to have were lagging behind in development (maybe because of Stalin doing a lot of Stalin things just a couple of years prior), so they turned to the Germans to get the guns in a more easonable amount of time. They also suggested using 283s for it, but Germany had stopped manufacturing those, so that didn't happen. So yes, this did predate Operation Barbarossa if that's what you're getting at. Another fun fact about the 380's on Sevastopol: they were supposed to be fitted on to Scharnhorst to replace her 283s but those plans never went through because the Germans really didn't want her to be out of action at the time.

Sevastapol is, ironically for the name, an extreme case of Russian Bias if there ever was one. Speaking of why the hell do they keep naming ships after the city notorious for two bloody sieges and shares a name with a ship that got sunk and couldn't be salvaged.
The thing is, the Potential Damage counter includes everything fired at you, as in, the ship firing had you targetted. It doesn't just count damage you took from being hit by those shells/torpedoes/bombs. Everything that went wide, fell short, went long, or hit an obstruction, shattered, bounced, ricocheted, or non-pens all count. If he'd actually been hit with 2.5m damage, then he would have been sunk a long time ago. The repair partly and heals simply wouldn't have kept up. No ship in the game, could heal 2.5million actual damage, even if the CD was 2 seconds and not 1:30 plus like it normally is.
Cruisers had lots of armour when they were armoured cruisers but in the interwar years treaties limited the displacement for cruisers and armour is the easiest to sacrifice for weapons, speed, range etc. When the treaties were no longer imposed cruisers got pretty tough at least in theory just no one built many because WW2 was incredibly expensive.
