easily one of my favorite youtube fishermen. you're so focused on what you want to catch it seems not even a rogue wave would curb your enthusiasm. i love it
Lots of medium size gar in the Trinity R. But for a giant, you need to south to the Nueces or Rio Grande. watersheds because the water is warmer and the gars don't stay dormant so long. Two gar have been taken over 300 lb from Lake Corpus Christi. One was taken by state biologists in a sampling net over 50 years ago. The other was taken with a bow a few years ago. The one taken by bow was 8 ft 2.5 in long and 67 in in girth. using the generic calculation of length times the square of the girth divided by 800, that tapes out to 552.7 lb. They bottomed out a a 300 lb scale with a third of the fish on the ground. Back in the sixties we kept getting No. 54 trot line cord broken there.
@@michaeljones5685 where are some good public areas on the river? I went down to trinity last year but didn’t have a boat. I caught a little 3 footer off the lake but most of the area I found was private property. I now have a boat though!! I’m really stoked and I’m coming back down at the end of the month. I live in Utah and it’s a 23 hour drive 😂😂Any info would help. There was a boat launch by a bridge on the way to Walmart, that I seen a lot of people taking off.
I'm glad to see your respect for this fish. Hunted out to the brink of extinction and despised by anglers in the past as a competitor and nuisance fish, these ancients are the most effective natives preying upon the invasive Asian carp that dominate many of our nation's rivers. Correct me if I'm wrong. How many good things have we destroyed out of ignorance?
Well said we have destroyed so many species out of ignorance. It is good to see these magnificent fish treated with respect. We need to respect these ancient species. I know we have other prehistoric fish which fascinates me.
I’m a huge fan of urs. I have all my friends watching ur videos. And without a doubt this is ur best video ever. The chemistry u have with the crew ur with, the fish u catch. It doesn’t get better then this. Awesome.
You know, fishing 🎣 is fun, relaxing, and time consuming. When you find out what your favorite fish is to catch, its a game of tug o war so fulfilling your dreams is exactly what to do.
just a suggestion but i would like at some point in the video you explain the fish youre going for. Fun facts stuff, origins stuff like that. love your vids man
it was cool to see you chasing a fish you didn't know about. we don't get to see you learn a fish like that ever. it was pretty cool to see your take on those gar coming from a big fish background. they are a bucket list fish for me also. it is amazing how finicky those guys are given their size. you would think they would just gulp the bait right down. can't wait to see you get on a monster!
good video thanks for doing all that to show us I really do appreciate it y'all do so much work to let us see fish. lake fork guy love his stuff. great guy I'll check out the other guys. thanks bro. god bless
Silvio Manuel ???? Rich people and poor people eat chicken, beef, rice, and Corn, so you can throw your logic out the window mate, theres plenty of well off folks that eat gar because they are delicious.
yo' @3:09 you blurred a logo, every cut afterwards that shows that logo is not blurred. Just a heads up, don't want the sponsors to freak out about it.
I sympathize with you guys. I have alligator gar around my dock. They are fun to catch once you hook them. However, it is frustrating fishing trying to actually get them hooked.
Went to blue springs in Florida a few days after seeing this video a few months back, thanks to these guys, when I was snorkeling I was able to identify a bunch of gar in the water so I panicked and jumped out of the water cuz these fish do not look friendly 😂😂
I've caught gar in SE Texas most of my life. The best bait I ever used was unraveled nylon rope. I used a heavy rig and put hooks in the nylon. unraveled about 6 inches, and let it lay on the water like a piece of dead fish. The nylon gets tangled in their needle teeth.
I caught a 6 foot 10 inch alligator gar that was roughly 200 pounds just two months ago. I caught it in the bay of Port O’Connor, Texas. The biggest fish of my life. It took over an hour to land by myself on a spinning rod with 30 pound braid. (Caught and released) It is on my Facebook page, for public viewing.
So, how many hours did you guys spend fishing and how many fish did you catch? I am always curious about catch rates for various species. Nice video....
Hell yeah my dream fish right here I live in southern Ontario and I don’t get much chances to fish for something quite as extrodianary as this but if I could catch any fish in the world it would be an alligator gar
Live Sun Perch works best on catching Alligator Gar. They love em. Just rig your line 2 1/2 feet below the bobber with the Perch swimming and catch more Alligator Gar. They'll hit the Perch quicker than chopped bait and take off soon as they hit the Perch not like they do running with chopped bait waiting to see if something is going to happen with a dead piece of meat. Hook the Perch right under the top fins on the back under the bone so they can still swim.
I wait till every Tuesday just to watch your vids they are probably my favorite thing to watch on RUclips keep it up
Owen Miller yea same these videos are great
Kyree Traylor quit bashing your head against the keyboard! God-damnit!

Now there's a true fisherman right there Lmao
Line snaps with no fight: "that was a big fish, it could have been 200 pounds."

100% agree. I think these fish should be protected as much as sharks in the ocean.
Plus they are badasses

I've been chasing them for some time now. Caught my first one this April in the Sabine River, most fun I've had. Good job on yours. Tight lines.

I watched my brother catch an alligator gar with his bare hands when we were little, playing in the canal. Never seen anything like it!
Catching gar can be a pain in the a**

Silvio Manuel Gar are also one of the best tasting freshwater fish, so...

Hunting, fishing, shooting, campfires. Doesnt sound boring to me. The good life
