Hey Josh, not trying to be your mother, and I know this is several months old, but I can tell you that since you previously had cancer, you really should protect your hands with gloves. The chance that you get an infection or sepsis is pretty high post cancer treatment and we don't want to see anything happen to you. Talk to your doctor about it. I know you're an adult and you have everything handled, but obviously we want to see you around for a long time. I know gloves suck and theyre hot, uncomfortable, ungainly, etc.
I only just found this channel. You're an absolutely amazing host, and your enthusiasm is contagious. I don't even fish and I couldn't stop watching. There's something very special about being able to get people interested in something they previously had no interest in. And I respect the hell out of wanting to share that. And envy being able to do it for a living. I may have only found your channel today, but I'm glad you beat cancer and are back to living your life to the fullest. I don't know any details about the cancer other than surgery was involved. But I know it's a horrible thing no matter how it goes down.
The guy uses automated reels and keeps under sized fish. Not a great example for the fishing community. Sorry to hear he had health issues no one deserves that. Just not a fan of the fishing style
I love that your videos 1. Teach me about new fish/fishing techniques in every video, and 2. Show the joy and rush of fishing that gets you hooked. I love the channel and I’m so glad you are doing so much better!!!
I know I’m a little late but it’s great to see you back and doing what you love glad your health is improving and it’s nice to see some fishing from you again
Did you notice he said “especially for someone who just came out of surgery”? He was recovering when this video was shot… so yes, maybe for a typical casual fishing situation… but there are always exceptions
What is that some kind of rich man fishing, I would be bored out of mind fishing like this. I have been catching big fish in these waters most of my life and never once used an electric rod and just stood there pushing a button.
i was thinking i waas thinking im wrong for thinking that same exact thing. id rather break poles, come back next year and try again than do this everyday
Squid have their “brain” in a ring around their main trunk. Their “throat” goes through this ring. So if the squid takes a bite of food that’s a little too big, they can literally give themselves brain damage from eating too much.
😢 i dont see how any one could get off on this, like a massive sword fish that you would wall mount yeah but a tiny one just growing surely not , its people like this guy that ruin the sea 🌊
This is one of my favorite guides I've seen you go out to fish with. I saw a lot of ppl have commented that he's inhumane towards the animals but this is a man who's fishing to feed his family every night. To me it seems like he respects the fish and knows that most of these large squid and swordfish could seriously hurt ppl if not handled correctly. This is how he pays his bills and supports his kids, and you can tell the importance of it to him through how much he knows. Great video, I just recently found your channel again and I'm going to do some fishing this week for the first time in a few years.
I remember being out on the party deep sea fishing boats as a kid watching the older/disabled guys use electric reels. Don’t let haters hate, you just had a surgery. It’s about enjoying the sea and the beautiful life we can catch and eat!
Hey Josh, it's 2 am here, and it's been about 4 months since I last watched your RUclips videos. I don't know why, but suddenly, I was thinking about you. I just wanted to check in and see how you're doing. I hope you're well and that you've successfully overcome your battle with cancer. It's really great to see that you're doing okay.
3:04 speak of our hands. I can't tell you how many scars I have on my hands from tying knots, hooking myself, bite marks from monster Chinook salmon and so on. I have a small scar on my chest from where I was bitten by a Steelhead trout. I love every one of my scars because I was having fun when I got them.
If Dr. Marwan is an expert then should know that nobody should keep a swordfish that small. These slow growing fish grow to over 1000 lbs., its like killing a baby still in diapers. Blame yourself when they are extremely endangered.
I know you said that the electric reel isn't cheating, but where's the fun in just throwing out a bait and waiting, and then pressing a button. the most action you get is watching the fish fight the reel instead of you and then gaffing it. I get bored if I'm not doing the work of at least working a jig or something while surf fishing a live bait on another rod. Setting the hook yourself and finessing a bait is more than half of the fun for me. Technique and skill, way more satisfying than sitting and waiting. and then using an electric reel on top of that... I couldn't. And I also have a very messed up back with herniated disks. But that's just me.
Hey man, thanks for the content, I'm currently based in Saudi and have been missing the South African coastal fishing. Fantastic to see the activity in the red sea!
People who make comments that claim electric reels are cheating should try hand-hauling or hand-cranking line from 400 fathoms. Old-time bottomfish fishermen in Hawaii did it that way long ago, but no one even considers doing it now.
I’ve flown out to Loretto Mexico to fish the sea of Cortez for giant squid to use as bait for catching “Dorado” or “mahi-mahi”, depending.. if you’ve never been, I highly suggest you go on a fishing trip lol The resort is five stars with your room sitting on white sand beaches with Crystal Clearwater by the way so it makes for a really Bitchin fishing/vacation trip. The fishing boats beach themselves right outside of your hotel room early in the morning to pick you up. You fill out a card the day before of what kind of lunch and drinks/beer or whatever snacks.(all of which is included with the all-inclusive hotel) you want on board for the day. It’s an absolute blast and I highly suggest it. I’ve been 4 different times because it’s some of the best fishing I’ve ever done.. there was so many squid that the captain told us do not fall off the boat because you will never be seen again! He said that they would eat you alive before you had a chance to climb back on board and he wasn’t joking. You guys seem to have problems with other animals, biting your squid we had problems with bigger squid, taking chunks out of the squid we had on the line 😂 those things have the biggest beak and they were big enough to easily chop four of my fingers off if I picked it up wrong! Sorry for the super long post, but I really think you should check the place out if you like Mexico, squid fishing and Dorado😂
Very interesting to see you fishing in Jordan! Just searched it up on the map. Crazy place man. To think theres water 2k feet deep there and able to catch fish. Wild
And I'm sure they cut the rope holding the concrete blocks used as anchor, so hopefully the rope will entangle a turtle or something else. Thanks to these fishermen!
Lol you'd need an international 120 wide or a giant everol you'd need a mile of line and a huge 30/0 hook and huge cable the big ones can bite clean through wire
We had the same joke with the hands working on aircraft engines, except it was that your hands would not just be calloused, but completely black with the oils and grease.
Just my opinion but that isn't fishing. That is dropping a bait down and watching a squid commit suicide, then pulling it in with a winch. Then using those winched in squid to winch in 2 small Swordfish.
@jamesm3268 ill watch whatever I like. And comment on whatever I like. Even watching a tow truck winching a car on to a flat bed truck is better than this.
You pull that squid out of the water and admire how incredible it is, yet you are killing it...for sport. You'll scoff and say whatever it is to legitimize it, but the squid is impressive, the Swordfish are incredible AND they have vastly shrinking populations, and you are taking pride in doing your part to continue that trend.People say, as you put it, that electronic reels are cheating. You reply 'Well they're not' with no reasoning behind that. I'm not a fan of any of this.
If you’re gullible enough to believe that swordfish populations are in trouble, I have some property beachfront in Arizona and I’ll sell it to you real cheap
I own a hunting fishing lodge in Canada. When guiding for Northern Pike, I expect to have “fisherman” hands at the end of the day, cuts and bleeding for sure. Jim L.
I dropped a 10 pound live squid to a finning sword off Cabo Pulmo once. Fish hit it so hard it flew completely out of the water with my squid across its mouth. Pulled a 15/0 J-hook out of his mouth after an hour, but that picture of him jumping out on the bite is eternally etched in my memory.

He yelled at those 2 squid as though he was trying to break up a fight between his own kids 😂😂
I was literally waiting for him to say “I will TURN THIS BOAT AROUND!” 🤬
THAT'S hilarious !
Josh, this is by far your best series!! throughly enjoyed it and glad your health is much better now.
Well done fishy one.
How can you possible say electric reels are not cheating?? I use electric reels. Of course they are cheating.
agreed. i can justify using an electric if you are just catching for food, but if you are just fishing for fun, there is not point.
I was thinking the same thing where is the Fun in that.
This is not that kind of fishing. This is 2k feet of water. 5 major league parks from home plate to center field
Did you notice he said “especially for someone who just came out of surgery”? He was recovering when this video was shot… so yes, maybe for a typical casual fishing situation… but there are always exceptions
@@sabrinariehl4379it’s definitely cheating. Fishing is a sport for a reason. You need to be in good shape for this kind of fishing.
New to automated fishing. About as exciting as watching tuna caught in nets.
Yea I love how he tries to say it's not cheating but 100,000% is cheating

those swordfish are absolutely tiny. smallest I have ever seen. No wonder you didn't have to fight it at all.
