Well, welding the hooks risk throwing off the temper on the hooks. I can imagine a custom hardening/annealing isn’t cheap in a marine quality stainless steel. Marine grade steal cable. 12 pounds of lead. I feel like you could save money using epoxy or resin. Maybe even braise the hooks on with lead.
Lol maybe it was quite low to begin with. The video title pretty much summed up what you was going to be watching and yet somehow you was still surprised with what you saw?
Thanks for the comment, after him making a big deal about the 10lb weight and molds... I took 10 seconds to completely debunk it. Then now seeing this... Just skim this video people.
I know they must get a lot of flak for using electric reels but seriously, this really takes the fun out of fishing. No fight, no technique, no feeling the fish/squid pull on the other end, no adrenaline rush, no sense of exhaustion and then a instant feeling of accomplishment after battling a creature of the deep. That is fishing. This is not.
Take a 2’’ pipe take a cap drill a 3/8 hole through the center of the cap. Run copper tube through the hole and flare the end with a flaring tool. Now put that end in a bucket of sand and fill the pipe with lead keeping the copper tube in the middle. Let it cool and weigh it. Once you know how long 10 lbs is use lengths of pipe that size. Flare the second end of the pipe and you’re done.
This was exciting! Love the idea of going after huge squid whales cruise the Caribbean regularly so you know that there are squid in the depths and lots of them.. Squid will go after big bait like whole bonito a big fillet like 2.5' long or longer I would fish at between 1700 to 2500 feet in depth if you like you could use 2 rods with the other using a smaller bait if you like (a barracuda fillet sound tempting) Don't worry about the size of the bait a humbolt squid will go after a man
Squid don't have swim bladders. But if a fish does grab it deep,it will blow its guts at that speed of retrieval. In saying that, it makes it easier to retrieve because they literally float to the surface.
@@Menuki Im pretty sure you're wrong about that, their body is adjusted to the deep sea preasure, reeling them in quickly like that will still build pressure in all the cells in their body as gasses expand. It just wouldn't be as dramatic as in a regular fish.
@@truluverful na, he’s yanked up giant squid from 1000+ feet and they’re fine. Cell pressure is entirely water based. It won’t expand unless heated. Sixty years ago when I was a poor college kid, we used 2 to 7 lbs of lead shark fishing. We casted them by burying a professionally made weight into very slightly dampened beach sand. We used heavy wire to tie to or make spider legs to dig into the bottom.
quick mold for heavy weights find a beer can drink the contents, cut the top off 8 gauge fencing wire formed to whatever connection you want and then fill the can with lead peel off the can. you can make these up in sizes of 375 500 and 1 liter sizes. they work great. this was how I made my kayak anchor.
Hey Josh, Big fan of your channel, Would love to see you try again DEEPEST Bait I’ve Ever Fished Part 2, Now knowing what needed to be done. And if you guys actually caught a giant squid on that future video, the views will blow up instantly!! Love from Malaysia
idc what anyone says using a electric reel for something that deep should be required!! people always say oh your not a real fishermen for using an electric. you try reeling from that deep and lmk
I really want to see Josh and the crew take another crack at what lies beneath, but I feel like its going to take a lot of experimenting in order to get something from it.
Man, everyone is trashing this video. I thought it was pretty cool even if they didn't land anything. Getting huge rigs bit off is always spooky. I remember the first time a shark bit through some 80lb cable leader of mine, I was blown away that anything could bite through it.
Are you going to reel in 3,000 to 4,000 feet of line? It’s almost like some of you just say whatever comes to mind. Like you don’t ever stop to think about what you’re saying. It’s as if you have the cognitive capacity of a little kid.
Maybe the tension from the previous fight stressed the mono and caused it to break as soon as the other fish hit it? I know mono can break easier if stretched.
Once you get to a certain depth most fish stop being predatory and start to be opportunistic. They aren't 'hunting' their food, they are waiting for something to swim near it and then eat it. Think of the angler fish. it has the 'lure' on its head and waits for its prey to swim by then it eats it. so, when you are fishing that deep, there isnt much looking for your lights and bait.
Garret is the most dangerous animal to ever live. Glad i came to the comments before watching. Sounds like it would be a major waste of time. Thanks for saving me the time
Some fishermen here in Norway tried fishing in 1.2 kilometers(about 3900ft) depth couple years ago and got nothing. They tried to find out if there is some fish in the bottom of Sognefjorden.

$500 rig? That was a piece of threaded rod with hooks welded to it. Looked more like $20 of material.
VCM hooks and paying a quality welder, not $500 but not $20 either.

I can make you a new $500 rig, just give me a call. I will do it for $450. Whoever sold that to you for $500 is a great salesman

my god these boys must have been home schooled. "the pressure" lmfao

What if, since they’re so deep that when you real them up they actually just explode before they make it to the surface. 😂
Squid don’t have a swim bladder and basically built like a water bellows. There’s really nowhere in their bodies to hold pressure

One of the most rewarding things you can do as a fisherman is to host a big lead pour. Best part is that the house keeps 15 percent.

Incase you were wondering the deepest fish ever caught by rod and reel was 6.5km deep or 21,000 feet. Slightly deeper than you guys were fishing
No hate or disrespect here but whats the fun in watching a reel do all the work?
2 sets reeling that much line isn't fun hand cranking
Try to reel in that much line your hand will fall off😂
Try it, it is really good
Why did you feel the need to post this
I’d assume the curiosity of seeing what you pull up from that deep plus the difficulty of reeling up something from that deep
Maybe the tension from the previous fight stressed the mono and caused it to break as soon as the other fish hit it? I know mono can break easier if stretched.
Bird of prey tackle is a Florida local tackle maker that definitely has the deep drop weights you need…
