- Today, we'll take a look at a knife that's an amazing EDC choice, and also coincidentally happens to be rustproof and slicey as heck, the QuietCarry Waypoint.

FYI, QuietCarry has now confirmed to me and added to their website that the knife is made in Taiwan. Good news, Iceland-haters!
We are dedicated to making premium knives with a focus on intricate details and product applications. We use premium steels that are sourced from Austria, Sweden, and the United States. We manufacture parts in the country of Taiwan with multiple partnerships using only the best processes. Some processes are done in US such as finishes and heat treating.
Thats great to hear. I don't at all consider Taiwan a shameful place to get something made. That said I am one of those people who critiscised Chi.. sorry Icelandic knife production. My apologies if I stated anything unfair.
I can't find any mention of Taiwan on their site. Are you sure the "confirmed" that they added this information to their website?
@Nick have you been able to check out the changes on the Drift? Wondering if some of your suggestions were taken into account with the thumb-stud drift.
Spyderco has sold me on Taiwan production long ago. Thems makes good knives
I can confirm that knife was indeed in Nicks shower on 14 of the nights I accidentally happened to be in a blimp nearby his house with the binoculars mounted to the blimps viewing carriage pointing at his bathroom.

I've had this knife for months and I adore it, gets extremely sharp, holds it well and cuts like a dream. I have to say that though that with all the use I've put it through it's developed a small amount of play vertically at lockup. Overall in my opinion it's without reproach.
you know the knife is damn good when the only real bad thing Nick has to complain about are Shallow screws.
Just picked up one of these in blue G10. WOW. The G10 is really super well done, the blue is very classy, and in stock now, FWIW. Mine has perfect action out of the box and came hair shaving sharp. Superb quality.
I’ve had this knife for approximately 3 months and it’s one of my favorites!
From the action to the slim and relatively lightweight design (2.7 oz) and the wire deep carry clip just fantastic!
Being completely rust proof is a big bonus.
The Vanax blade came very sharp is very thin slicey.
At $300 it’s not cheap and the only “negative” thing about it...but I guess you get what you pay for.

It's looking like this Quiet Carry Waypoint is going to make Nick Shabazz's Top 10 Knives of 2020. Great review video about a great knife. I've really liked the design/look of what Quiet Has put out so far. I haven't owned one yet but definitely hope too.

When I first got this knife I knew it would be a Gem 💎!
The design and materials on this knife are a huge win. The price might seem a little steep at first, but when you compare it to what Spyderco is charging for some of their Taichung made knives it's not too far off. The warranty only applying to the original owner is kind of lame though.
The thumb stud was more difficult for me from the left side at first, which was annoying as a lefty. Once the knife broke in a little it got much easier.

Nick, this is the first knife you’ve reviewed that has impressed me in a very, very long time. You can keep the incessant number of boring slipjoints and CRKTs that have “graced” your videos for far too long. This knife is worth the time, breath and bread.
I put a KWIK Thumb Stud on my Quiet Carry Drift and now have the best of all possible worlds. I can Spydie flick it with my middle finger and I can flick it with my index finger. And now with the thumb stud I can thrust it open like Nick opens the Waypoint. It only took me 8 months to figure out to do this but I have a whole new love for it now.
First, really been looking forward to this review, i love the looks and idea of this knife, I may have to pick up the one with the golf ball ish texturing
I have vanax 37 (an older version of vanax super clean) on my Shirogorov jeans but that is a big blade, it would be nice to get it on a Slicey version of it!
As someone without the time or skills to maintain a needy EDC, this will definitely be a prime choice for me. That total rust resistance is unbelievable.

I love the blade shape on this. It reminds me of the Benchmade 940 which is one of my favorite EDC knives. BUT... had some bad experiences with Benchmade over the last year and have decided to no longer buy from them. I love the axis lock but the blade profile and size vs how it carries is my favorite part. Have to do some reading about Vanax, I know very little about it.
the four dots on the side look like the old MacBook battery indicator LEDs haha

I’m so glad I pulled the trigger and bought this knife earlier this year (also after seeing it in a Slicey Dicey video). I love it. I hope they will make more for those who can’t get one at present.
I would like to see a G10 version replacing the titanium scales. Hopefully cutting some of the price down a bit. Maybe even "standard" steels so that it is no longer rust proof...but most people really don't need that. Other than that it checks so many boxes: thin blade stock, washers, thumb studs, liner lock and wire clip. So great, just so expensive due to the rust proof thing.
Resident Lefty. No issue with thumb studs. Absolutely love this knife. My only recommendation for improvement is lightening the handle more. it feels a bit tail heavy.

Was going to say it's hard to get. Guy said I could sleep with his hot wife if I sold him mine, Had to decline his offer, but it's vanax and you know how people get over it. it's an amazing knife flys out like it's assisted.

Nick you’re killing me here!!! It’s a great knife I love everything about it especially me being a lefty not many of the great knives are ambidextrous but they are all sold out!!!
It's ambidextrous to an extent. The scales are different to accommodate the liner lock making the "left" scale more flush with the thumb stud. It's still deployable with left hand but much more difficult due to the lack of purchase one can get on the thumbstud.

@@grimreaper6042 I am not a lefty, no. I can still get it to snap open, but it's certainly more difficult. Most knives that are ambidextrous I can deploy with both hands. I work from home and use knives like a rubbing stone or fidget spinner.

Have you noticed any blade play in long term use? I got mine a week ago and there seems to be a bit of vertical play and that has me concerned. Do you think I should contact warranty support?

I absolutely will be buying one of these when they become available again. I’m always around water I love my dragonfly h1 but the edge retention isn’t great. Vanax steel seems to be an amazing steel.

I’ve never heard of the brand, but I just looked them up, and you get what you pay for more times than not. The designs are all ripoffs and I wouldn’t trust a brand without a reputation with really low prices. But honestly, they’re all cheap af, if you want one just get one to find out for yourself, you don’t really need to ask for someone’s opinion.

Hey can anyone tell me the difference between all the Waypoint knives on their website? They look the same but one says SWSW and another says SWSA and one says BBSA.
Is it the Waypoint or the Drift? I don't know what to believe anymore.

If QUIET CARRY READS THIS-PLEASE MAKE A LOT MORE! I promise they will all be sold. If you want happy customers make more than enough. I have a feeling if you made 1 million of them, you would still sell out! Please make a lot! I want one. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing OUT OF STOCK! Make more of the drift too! I didn’t pull the trigger and I regret it.

That left hand thumb stud cutout shouldn’t be a problem in my experience.

On mine, the pivot likes to unscrew itself if I flick it open like that. Besides that, I really like it.
I threw se locktite on mine for just this reason and it has stayed right where I wanted it. 10/10 recommend, lol

@@bryanstone7237 that “voids the warranty” if you take any screws out. I heard they check with a microscope to see if you disassembled it…
Didn't realize the weird pivot design and asked Quiet Carry for help with the pivot loosening. He pretty much told me that since I took it apart it voided the warranty and I was on my own. Once I figured it out it was an easy fix. Poor customer interaction and service. I can't endorse a company that treats its customers so poorly.
Hey Nick, do you review fixed blade knifes?
I found that I prefer carrying the Atom over this knife. M390 is still very rust-resistant, especially with edci. The slim handle design and stiffer detent on the Waypoint ended up being a combo that resulted in disaster for me. I didn't find it very controllable when opening the knife slowly because of the detent. The slim handle offers little grip, especially with the slick surface of the titanium. One day I was using it in wet conditions (like what it's made for), and when I tried to open the knife I bobbled it in my hand which resulted in me almost cutting my finger off. Had to get 11 stitches. I never felt confident in the purchase you get when gripping this knife, especially in wet conditions. I did feel it was only going to be a matter of time before I would drop it and break the tip. If the handle and blade were both increased in their height, and the Ti frame had milling, this would probably be my perfect knife for EDC without question. Unfortunate.
I'm afraid I have to agree with you after carrying the Waypoint for a couple weeks. Surprising that this is never mentioned in any of the reviews but the combo of thin, slick, long, sharp detent, and freaking laser sharp is problematic. You CANNOT use this knife with wet hands. It is 1 degree away from being the perfect EDC but that 1 degree could result in an emergency room visit. I think you are exactly right that it needs a little blade/handle height or texture or both to add a degree of confidence and safety.
I have a G10 waypoint, it is too small to control with the barrel opener. A flipper would be perfect, I have a Mantra 3, just as small, easily controlled opening…

This is largely academic but Uddeholm claims that Vanax has the same corrosion resistance as 316L, but that's probably when it is in an annealed state, which is still really impressive considering 316L is an austenitic stainless, but isn't technically "rust-proof".
A bit off topic but I know that you appear to favour phosphor bronze washers. My Maserin Nimrod has teflon washers and I was wondering if the 2 types were interchangeable????
Teflon washers are perfectly fine if the knife has proper tolerances. Teflon has a lower coefficient of drag than PB and has other benefits over PB as well (but both are fine and have their advantages).
All these nice, aesthetically minimalistic, titanium handle scale pocket knives seem to be freaking impossible to get ahold of. I haven’t been able to find a standard small sebenza 31, quiet carry waypoint, tactile rockwall (thumb stud), etc. It seems like none of those or similar styles ever seem to be available.
Get on knife swap on Reddit. I just got a waypoint off there and I’ve seen at least a dozen rock walls recently

All waterproof stuff aside, they just make a handsome knife.
I'd be all over this knife if it were around the 200 mark. Considering I've never had any of my knives in the shower for a month, Vanax just doesn't appeal to me that much. If I could get this exact design with something like s35vn for $100 less, I'd probably buy it twice.
Cammon man, custom bugout is 100$ less then this, a lot spydercos are 100$ less than this. But one is far better then those knives for thar 100$ difference.
I love that someone is making knives with thin slicey blade stock. Small folding knives don't need 3-4mm stock. No one is battoning or prying with a $300 knife.
Also big props for the liner lock. Frame locks are ugly and compromise ergos.

Looks nice. I have a large Sebenza and if I ever wanted a smaller one I might look into this instead. I don't like the secrecy around the manufacturer though.

Very nice. I bought the first drift I could get my hands on from urban edc supply and was so disappointed in the action, and the rolled edge that it put me off of quiet carry. The waypoint does interest me quite a bit though. I wish it was a little larger but it would be a great smaller edc.
Too small for my hands. A spyderco para3 is the smallest I can use one handed, I think because the hole works on a small knife. The barrels not so much
the pvd coating on the iq i purchased a while back was scratched to hell when i got it in

Just ordered the waypoint, the renegade gungnir, 2 pro tech exclusives and a spyderco shaman.... I’m going to have to take out a second mortgage if I keep spending like this....
Quiet Carry should pay Nick for this review. Last smaller company that had a review like this, was TRM and it is now very hard to get a Neutron or an Atom. When they go on the used market, they are always full price and sell immediately. I've had a ton of offers for my BNIB TRM Neutron.

I have had a LOT of trouble not carrying this instead of others for the past 4 months. It was like, made for me.
I think it's pretty cool how the thumb stud seems to travel along just the edge of the handle. From a distance it looks pretty much like a boring Swiss Army Knife. It's a little large on the blade.
Just checked the Quietcarry website to check out the other finish options, and lo and behold, they're all sold out except for the black on black. I wonder why that might be? 🤔
