Great review Pete. Careful about composting dog & cat poop - should be fine for flowers & trees, but I wouldn't suggest adding it to a vege garden. Hi love you and your videos. Would you include links to the knives you are showcasing? Sometimes I can’t find a source for further exploration. Thank you!
Figured I’d chime in with my Quiet Carry story… or maybe nightmare is more appropriate. Bought a G10 Drift when they came out (liked the look and the Ti version doesn’t have lefty carry). I must’ve got a lemon because boy howdy out of the box it was awful. The head from one of the scale screws was broken off in the box, the backspacer rattled like crazy even though the screws were tight, and it was crazy off center. So I emailed them and they promptly emailed me back and told me I was lying and their machining was too good for the backspacer to rattle and just didn’t acknowledge the broken screw. So went back and forth and sent pictures as they told me I was fabricating my issues. After a whole lot of arm twisting they finally took the knife back… and charged me a restocking fee to boot. All that being said, I’ve come across two other people with the same sort experience with their customer service. If you get a good one out of the box they seem like great knives. If you get a bad one, prepare to deal with nightmarish customer “service”
Hey Pete, enjoyed the review as always! However, everything I have read says QC Manufacture in Taiwan? I won't have PRoC Knives in my beloved collection so I hope the you are off Target just for once?!?..... 👀
I believe they are comparable steels given that Pete said Vanax cut like M390. Since 20CV is an analog to M390, it’s roughly the same cutting ability. Of course, always depends upon the grind and blade geometry.
15:42 that’s the irony. As you get more exotic materials that perform better the price goes up which in turn means you are less likely to use that knife. So what’s the point 🤣

I've noticed the more knives I use and carry, I hate thin knives. I'm not talking bladestock thickness but I'm talking scale width and height. If it at least isn't at least ½” thick, ¾" tall (large chamfers and contouring are a big plus) and at least a 4" blade, I immediately lose interest in it because at that point for my hands you are sacrificing ergonomics for aesthetics. Like you said, you are trying to find a balancing point of compactness to fit more items in it's shared pocket against general usability and comfort. I was at that point until I realized I wouldn't have those same restrictions if I just moved the knife into a pocket of its own so now I just right-hand back pocket carry all my knives and it's one of the best things I've ever done.
The problem is you would rarely find a knife with thick nice handles and thin slicey blades. It doesn’t work for tolerance so it’s not only about carrying the knife. Thin handles mean thin blade stock if you care for that, otherwise if thin blade stock isn’t a prerequisite so the entire knives world is yours 😂
@@mmikee407 proper grind is honestly more important than overall bladestock. Only knife I have in my collection that goes against what you are saying is my Cherburkov Kasataka. 0.61" thick titanium framelock knife with only one side having carbonfiber contoured scale, 4.45" full flat blade of M390 that comes down to an extremely thin edge comparable to that of a kitchen knife. It's difficult to find more pieces like this but I'm always on the lookout
Dig those worms in lower maybe? Had no idea you could use cat shit. Good for you. Might prefer to use my own shit. I'll stick to canna Vega bio for now 😅
I’ve always wondered: what’s your day job? Kind of a nose-y question, but I feel that this knowledge would be a crucial piece of the puzzle that is Pete. A riddle hidden in a paradox, wrapped in an enigma… or something like that.
Oh lord, Pete’s slicing cheese with a hollow grind again. Lol thanks for another great review man. The Quiet Carry lineup sure is handsome but they’ve never had that x-factor for me. By the way what’s the opening song on this one from?
I like the Quiet Carry Drift's design better (the thumb stud version). Whether it's different enough from your TRM Neutron to justify the 250.00, i don't know.
Price and amount of cuts vs S90V from spyderco (like my sprint run carbon fiber Native Chief) i personally feel like my spyderco is "better". Being that it looks good, cuts extremely well especially while cooking, and literal every day carry. People think its massive but i have fairly large hands so it looks like a mid size folder in my hand. I get some knife prices because i have custom knives but sometimes a production that cost much less make me more happy. For instance my Tops Prather War Bowie is my absolute favorite outdoor knife but is far from being expensive in my eyes.
I have the same native chief, it’s amazing. For a linerless knife, carbon fiber is literally the perfect material (or laterally😉), the thin stabby spear point blade from S90v is everything you could ask for. Although I’d prefer k390 or Rex, it’ll look the same for its whole life. I’ll probably give it a regrind. I think this company makes its money off yuppie, apple laptop, type 20 somethings. It’s a cool package. I’m thinking about trying to make a line of rust proof knives to compete with these companies.
@@lindboknifeandtool A line of rust proof knives would be great. Just saw the Timascus pocket clip on your Chief and it looks awesome 👍 S90V was a new steel to me and felt like a new learning curve over Elmax, 204P, and M390. Trying to get a keen edge kept leaving a crazy burr that i couldn't get rid of. I ended up changing the apex and used much less pressure on a red then green DMT then used my .2 micron strop (im weird and free hand sharpen my knives). I've gotten use to sharpening S90V and it holds a fantastic edge but i do think it holds a better working edge when it isn't pollished.
@@r1w3d thanks man! Much appreciated! I also freehand and had the same experience. Stubborn burr. I try to get as small of a burr as I can on a coarse diamond plate, then remove the burr with edge trailing strokes on a fine diamond plate. A couple swipes with 10 micron diamond paste to finish. Definitely a different steel to sharpen. I just think the toughness being close to D2 at 60-62 hrc is crazy.
So I’ve gotten Vanax to rust by pairing it with titanium in salt water (galvanic corrosion). Is there a chance you can submerge the whole knife in salt water to see what corrodes first. Just asking in case you ever feel like it. Thank you.
@@Naftoor What I'm saying is it would be really easy to avoid...if the manufacturer didn't use two stain resistant materials that have a poor reaction to each other under conditions that would rust a blade. Like, what's the point?
Hi, can I ask you to test MKM mikro/makro m390 edge retention? I really like the knives, but I saw that the HRC is around 58/59, I’d like to know how “worse” it is as far as performance goes. It’d be really cool if you could do that since you are my go to guy as far as reliable source and knowledge goes. Thanks, wish you a good weekend!

@@anthonycampos7417 👍🏼Killer Whale. It's a Juggernaut knife. Exellent geometry and very tall blade and full flat grind.
What is your opinion on Vanax compared to Magnacut. I made my own Magnacut Bugout Reblade and heat treat it to 64.5 HRC.
Reminds me of the Kershaw skyline.
Why didn't use vinegar, salt and hydrogen peroxide mixture to test corrosion resistance? My thoughts thank you.
I just got the Lionsteel T6 in K490. Only 999 made. Will you get to review one?
The difference is that the water on the right is potable while the left is not.
I can't think why but I've got a feeling he's a paramedic or something like that. Unless I'm getting confused with his wife. Can't remember...
@@peteg22397 I think he has, at one time or another, suggested he’s some sort of first responder.
@@peteg22397 Tree is a nurse and has said in previous videos, Pete has said he has a first responder type role but doesn’t elaborate too much 😊
@@LisaInTheSkyMU cool, thanks for the info
Your dogs are so cute 😍
Looks like a skyline
Love all your videos
Wait, was that Chrono Trigger's music? Ok i'm subscribing rn
Just ordered a Waypoint, it is crazy that it is $200 less than a CRK... much better value.
What music did u use
Hi, Pete. Have you ever lost count? When I do repetitive tasks my mind usually wanders pretty quickly.
Keep circle-y going!
When the dozen Opinel No8s I have are worn out I may invest in one... ;o)
I want to see a review of the FAMOUS Ginsu knives....
Review scores? Nice!!!
This is like Microtech making knives in China fan base saltiness 😭😂
already laughing and i haven’t even started the video yet lol
Oh lord, Pete’s slicing cheese with a hollow grind again. Lol thanks for another great review man. The Quiet Carry lineup sure is handsome but they’ve never had that x-factor for me. By the way what’s the opening song on this one from?
the theme of Tantal from the game Xenoblade Chronicles 2, night then day theme
@@CedricAda thanks! I’ve never played any of the Xeno games, need to correct that
@@CedricAda did you get a shot at breath of the wild? It’s beautiful.
Gardeners Tip: add Dolomite Lime or garden Lime to compost, blood and bone is good but dogs sniff it out and eat it
600 cuts is years for city people
patina bros hate him
Pete, are you wearing Ugz FFS mate ? 😆😝
How many poisonous spiders do you run into out there? Love your channel.
Do you like the Quiet Carry better than the Spydiechef?
Doesn't sound like it.
I just can't get jazzed about liner locks and thumb studs anymore.
I returned mine for some of the same reasons and no transparency of origin.
They manufacture in Taiwan.
Needs a bit more Kapara but the shan't and shit made up for it. :-)
I like the Quiet Carry Drift's design better (the thumb stud version). Whether it's different enough from your TRM Neutron to justify the 250.00, i don't know.
Is the music in this video from Nier?
close! xenoblade but similar vibes for sure
Great video!!
From batoning to broccoli stalks.
Just saw the Timascus pocket clip on your Chief and it looks awesome 👍
S90V was a new steel to me and felt like a new learning curve over Elmax, 204P, and M390.
I was worried that I wouldn't hear any Chrono Trigger music and you wouldn't get a "like" click from me until about 12:45 ish
So I’ve gotten Vanax to rust by pairing it with titanium in salt water (galvanic corrosion). Is there a chance you can submerge the whole knife in salt water to see what corrodes first. Just asking in case you ever feel like it. Thank you.
The irony of using two completely stain-resistant materials to make a knife that corrode due to the other's proximity...
@@Naftoor What I'm saying is it would be really easy to avoid...if the manufacturer didn't use two stain resistant materials that have a poor reaction to each other under conditions that would rust a blade. Like, what's the point?
@@Naftoor Yeah, that's what I'm getting at. Look at the Spyderco Caribbean for a good example of how not to waste stain resistant materials.
Your "one" knife?!?!?!? Will you sell the whole collection?
As a non-salty microtech fan, the salty microtech fan comment had me rolling
Hey Pete. Your dogs are stupid cute. That is all.
Vanax isn't going to give off that beef jerky smell when you cut pineapple like carbon steels will. BOO!
microtech burn...ouch. Pour some of that saltwater in thier wound too.
Today we’ll discuss the waypoint knife and some dog shit in between …
My brother in rust...
I'll never buy a quiet carry again after the pos I got from them with the gen1 drift. Horrible horrible out of the box and poorly designed.
China probably heat treats the microtech knives better than microtech can. Show knives for people who like to spend money on jewelry.
Regardless the video was done exceptionally well.
