    Considering it's a two-hand opening operation, it doesn't matter what side the clip is on as you are going to be readjusting your grip a couple times either way.

    Agree the 0.115" stock is too thick, but being hollow ground helps a fair amount. I also agree that the bead blast finish and the snail trails are, apparently, an acquired taste once they get worn (e.g. the Sebenza)... I happen to find it a touch annoying. Note, as of June 2022, Quietcarry makes the West available in other handle finishes now that should wear more acceptably. Great review as usual Nick.

      Not that much more for the m390 blade too. I'd rather have great steel with an aluminum handle instead of fancy titanium and d2.

    • @BadP0tat0
      @BadP0tat0 4 года назад

      Richard Cannon for sure. I got Alu version as I do not need it to be “fancy”. Black Alu version is classy and lighter. I was worried about the clip and how much effort would it talk to put it into pocket, but it is flawless and this clip holds knife securely. Only thing to it’s knife is that it could be more rounded at the end. There is a bit of square thing sticking out of your pocket :)

    Where are quiet carry knives made?

    • @thomash4578
      @thomash4578 4 года назад

      Their website does not address this, which makes me think the components may be foreign made and the knife assembled in the US
      Which is not necessarily a bad thing

    • @JustIn-op6oy
      @JustIn-op6oy 2 года назад

      @@thomash4578 I believe they are predominantly assembled in Taiwan and have the final finishing work done in the states. Judging by their advertising copy and what I have seen on various sources I think the country of origin depends on what model it is.

    Hey Nick. I have a West too. Initially I was weird out by the thicker stock too but over time, it cuts very well anyway so I think it's not as much a hindrance as you expect. I'm also surprised you didn't list the disassembility as a plus since that's not common with slipjoints.

    You should check out the Real Steel Luna. In many ways seems like a similar design to this, but better executed, directly addressing a lot of the concerns you have with this.
    Granted, it has a fairly weak backspring, but some people (myself included) have a preference for less stiff springs on slipjoints.

    Slipjoints are fine knives. Not sure why anyone would be putting pressure on the back side of the blade while using it. My grandpa never had a locking folder, and somehow never had his Case or Old Timer close on his fingers. Go figure.

    • @BadP0tat0
      @BadP0tat0 4 года назад

      drameday , that is what I thought. But It is a case of being used to locking knives. Today, I had a nice slipjoint on me (lionsteel thrill) and I did nice cuts etc. but I saw that one pin, holding my phone was loose and O wanted to press it in. It was between housing and clip so I needed something thin - something like a blade :) So without any thought, I opened my slipjoint and O started using its tip to press that metal pin into plastic housing (with a hole) and my slipjoint closed on me. I kept my fingers due to halfstop. I just got so used to locking knives that I forgot about potential risk. Slipjoint a are fine, but locking knife is an upgrade 100%

    • @davidmarshall7752
      @davidmarshall7752 4 года назад +1

      @@BadP0tat0 But it's as much muscle memory as anything. If you're used to using slipjoints it won't be a big issue, and frankly I've had folders ~ *good folders* ~ with bad lock geometry fail. A knife that is supposed to lock but fails is far more dangerous *:* you expect it to lock and then it collapses on you, and the energy stored by a locking blade that unexpectedly closes is much greater, potentially causing a much worse injury.

      Slip joint knives are not high speed low drag killing tools.
      But for most cutting purposes that do not involve taking down Tangos, a slip joint is just fine

    Good review. Keeping in mind that it is a slipjoint traditional, snail trails to some are called patina and as you said the blade will close without a blade lock. The main differences between this knife and a regular traditional knife is the steel (d2) and a pocket clip. Price is comparable to a Case or GEC or other high end traditional

    It’s a small, smart and surprisingly useful knife. The hollow ground D2 blade is a genuine pocket scalpel, but stout enough to work well. I’m in the Uk, so need non-locking knives and this fits the bill so well. My only complaints around the clip. It was way too tight (easily fixed) and the screw isn’t countersunk. If that’s the worst I could see, then it’s a great knife. As a result, mine is rather more pocket-worn than yours! The left/right clip isn’t an issue with this as it simply won’t fall open... and I’m a leftie! "I wish it was a little slicker!’ Really? I’ve over 100 slip joints and, even in this company, this is a super slicer! I did a very early review of it: ruclips.net/video/YzX40JZJZZA/видео.html
