Hi Mat Watson here. To all you doubters of my integrity I've done a short video wobbling some other cars' centre consoles to see if they flex as bad as the Stinger's ruclips.net/video/MCgZYhX9QnM/видео.html
MatWatsonCars :: look at his fake motions. He looks like he trying to shaking center console but look at his hands and fingers. Not even pressed! It is shame on him he even made this video, you should just say sorry. People make mistakes.
RAIZAL MOHAMMAD: Only poor people in third world countries stay 15 years with the same car, normal people exchange cars every 3 to 5 years. Never the less, there are MANY VW, Mercedes and BMW with more than 1000000 km and more than 2 decades still on the roads, there are Mercedes 190D with more them 2 MILION km still going strong, as a matter of fact there are Merdeces , Porches, VW on the road from even before Toyota was born ! So get some education and some knowledge about the automobile industry before saying bullshit !
I am a BMW fan but not everyone wants to get Bmw or an Audi.. healthy competition between car makers is always welcome on the market.. hats off to the Kia.
@@omarabdul2864 MASERATI use dodge buttons an out dated screen the base model LEVANTE doesn't even have parking sensors and they took a FERRARI engine and somehow made it even more unreliable and that's a MASERATI
@@omarabdul2864 and have you ever sat in a STINGER I've been sitting in BMW AUDI and VOLVO my hole life and this still feels good obviously it's not as good but not far off
this is the first time I am saying this " Mat, you were very much biased.. try an appreciate the efforts that the engineer have put in making the vehicle"..
the Stinger actually has 6.3 more cubic feet then the BMW and 1.5 more cubic feet of cargo space than the Audi sportback. So that statement you made about it being 20% less is false
"It doesn't have the German quality", well, that is a good thing because it won’t break down twice a year and even if it did, it won’t cost a fortune. German quality…
I LOVE CARS.. why is DeMuro rubbish reviewer ? because it show much more detailed all car's features ?! ha ha ha.. !!! obviously you don't know what you say here.. (>_< )
I'm 184cm and my head hit the roof in the rear sitting in the same position I would sit in the front seats. If you sit really low and have your knees around your head you'll fit into any seat, sit that way for an hour and see how comfortable it is. Unfortunately asian cars are just small in the back, Hondas Civic and Toyotas Auris all had me hitting my head in the back.
Matt - Disappointing effort here. I love your channel, but not a big fan of you as a hatchet man. My family owns a E class, a C-class and an A4. None would pass the jiggling test, and all have hard plastics on the bottom half. Material quality wise, Stinger is pretty much on par, at least with the C-class/A4 and better than the XE. Where the Stinger loses out is in the coherence of the interior design, which does not have the same consistency in concept as the Germans. Also, the small touches like (for the A4) the virtual cockpit, the one touch lights, the capacitative buttons etc make a big difference in overall feel. On the flip side, the Stinger is faster than the 440i/S5 and on par with AMG C43. So there are definitely pros and cons. You have highlighted most of the cons, manufactured some fake relativities, and pretty much did not mention any of the pros from a relativity perspective. You can do better Matt. Don't need to be an advertisement for the big 3.
another biased viewer... Matt did praise hard on Stinger's handling and sporty look of it, what you guys want is Matt saying Stinger is the best fastback saloon in the market isn't it lol
Kia Stinger : 23.3 cubic feet trunk > BMW 4 series Gran Coupe : 17 cubic feet trunk. Matt thinks, SUPERIOR GERMAN car is somehow magically bigger. He shouldn't be doing car review, if he can't get the fact right.
I dont know why people dislike KIA so much. I had 3 KIA's during my lifetime and it never had any problems and that 7 year warranty is amazing. I had the old first gen Kia Sportage then I changed to the second gen and I gave that car away to my girlfriend and bought a Sorento. So far no problem
He is just plain lying about the rear seat room. Audi A5 Sportback is 3/4 scale of the Kia in back. ALL such cars in this category have sloping roof and compromised rear headroom, Kia is no better or worse. But legroom, knee room and width are just simply a step UP in the Kia, not a step down- the Audi is just plain more cramped, not less cramped. And try that "grab the center stack and shake it" in the next BMW 3 series you drive and watch it flex.
I just watched Doug's review on this car and it honestly was much better, he reviews the car for what it is and not totally based on the brand itself. You didn't even mention the style of the car or the safety equipment.
Go and watch comparisons where carwow features audis - matt always mentiones the negatvies of the cars, like the looks and the distant driving experience
Because that´s the task the stinger has ahead of him for that price point. Since the car is no bargain you have to compare it to it´s rivals, which mainly are Audi, BMW and Mercedes.
Free4Noob: 10 k cheaper than the standard price of a comparable Audi, BMW or Merc...and fully equiped in standard guise. You'll be paying at least 15k £ more for one equally equiped. But than again this is not half the car because the cupboard cover is slightly harder plastic than in a German one. And here I was thinking cars were about getting from A to B in a pleaserable way...turns out they really are about how many dead cows were fitted in there.
That's because GT is the performance so compare to an S5 base model is the correct move. A base GT is nothing but a piece of junk like the Kia Optima. So I don't know why you want to like the Kia more than an already establish luxury sport coupe like the Audi S5. This Kia is clearly a step up from your normal Kia, but that doesn't mean they're better than German cars that's been working their magic for the past decade in Motorsport industry. Kia can try, but they will always be a cheap solution to something else better. Come back and read this in 10 years, Kia will still be granny cars.
re AutoBum The most expensive Stinger in UK - 41,140 GBP Basic S5 Sportback in UK - 49,495.00 GBP If you add stuff you already have in 41k Stinger, S5 is 57,500.00 GBP. 41k vs. 57,5k. thats the point, its not that close, so trashing Stinger in video for pricing is lame.
You may dislike the car and not feel that posh but I wouldn't regret it for buying it. Today's cars are mostly short lived until a breakdown occurs. Kia vehicles however, are one of the most reliable ones today.
Every part of the review had to mention, "Comes standard... IN A KIA?!?" as though it were a surprise that other brands can make decent sports cars. No, a Kia is not an Audi A5 Sportback, but the car has its own merits and I feel like this particular review couldn't get past the brand-snobbery.
FrenchCrazy Name another Kia that has been made that has the credentials of the Stinger. If you can’t understand that this is a game changer for the brand, and he was using artistic licence to illustrate this with his comments “in a KIA?” then I suggest you touch up on your comprehension skills a tad.
Cris L they’ve been making great value cars for years now. Even as far back as the mk2 carens you got more than you paid for, and even the option of a merc engine. The pro-cee’d gt was fantastic from the start, the optima looks fantastic and in some markets could be optioned with that v6. This isn’t a game ‘changer’ as such, just another improvement to their perpetual growth
kind of agree. Highlighting too much of the very few defects and not enough of the pros such as the 7 years warranty (briefly mentioned) or the fact that it comes with everything in pretty much. There are only a few secondary options. So to be fair the price comparison should have been made with all options in for the Audi as well.
Matt - Don't think this is a fair review. Try the jiggling test on the VW Arteon, Audi A4 and the Merc C-class and you have the same issue. Plus the lower plastics on the C-class/A4/3-series are similarly hard. You make fair points but the relativities are off, per above. As it is, this comes across as a hatchet job more than an objective review.
NZsarge1 Then he should've done that wobble test on every single car he's in. This is the first time I'm seeing him yank the center console on a car like that. He's never even do it on an economy car before.
I do not know where the evidence for some of your claims come from Matt. The Kia Stinger has a 23.3 cubic feet trunk whilst the BMW 4 series Gran Coupe, you quote as being larger, only has 17. Please check your facts if you are going to give consumer advice. John
Doug Demuro does a more unbiased review of that car. The KIA stigma has to be gone to make a real review because this is actually a great car! For the price and all the equipment it has, I´d go for one of these with no problem! KIA is a brand that is not falling behind!! I have a KIA Forte for 4 years now and I think, for the price I paid, it's an incredible car, well built even.
4:44 How come he doesn't grunt and complain about having to reach in to lower the rear seats in the A5 like he does in this Kia? Should watch his A5 review right after this one. Totally biased. I think he's sore that Kia entered this realm.
+Joshua I did not say such a thing. I said it's better than the S5 and 440i, not that it beats them. It's slightly slower than the Audi and a bit faster than the BMW but I still think the Stinger is the better deal. Stinger starts at 38k, vs Audi at 54k and bmw at 50k. And then you'll need to add the necessary options.. we all know the germans are going to be well above 60k in the end.
If you spec Audi or BMW same as this top range KIA, they would be double the price Mat... be the way here in Australia is much cheaper then rivals.... + you get V6 engine...
I mean, Yes, it's not on the level of Audi and Mercedes on the interior quality, but it won't cost an arm and a leg to fix when it breaks down. Which won't be often... unlike Audi and Mercedes
@@kristians2704 Its overused because its so true, I had friends in the past who complained about money all the time, but would still repair their old wornout German cars instead of buying smth more suitable to their budget, saving up, investing, etc, to not have money problems.
Why would you make it sound as it has the similar price as S5? 10K isn't a small difference in my book, even for a 40K car. Yeah, you can compare baseprice audi vs range topping kia a bit better, but that doesn't make much sense either
First time I have been very disappointed with carwow review's fairness and information. Prejudicial and judgemental even before getting in the car is not how I would expect to see a professional car reviewer. I hope there will be another chance to review again, without the "but it's a kia" attitude and review the darn car.
Typically when a Carwow review highlights a car, they focus solely on the car and then create additional videos to look at the head-to-head comparisons. Instead, Matt jumps right out of the gate and spends a good chuck of this video talking about Audi and BMW?
Been following Matt since his carbuyer days...But this review really put me off...This is such a biased review and not a standlone review but felt more like promotion video of german brands like AUDI and BMW. And no I am not defending KIA. I drive BMW myself but credit has to be given where its due!!
@Nagato is better than Punk Naruto Well sir, im shure you know more about cars than i do, i mean i had my first car not far away, ist was 1972 and it was an Amerikan car Dodge Dart - 65. I been driving lot of cars since then so i talk nonsense, i know! In my country where i born we have only 3 Formula 1 World Champions and in Rallye only about 15 of them! You have more im shure! Im old racedriver my self!
I've never seen you manhandle the console in the beloved German cars. And many of those have scratchy plastics down low, which seem to get less comment than here. How about the warranty difference?
Man I think people should shortlist it. it's such a brilliant car looks so fine and also it's so practical and those 7 years warranty is such a great bargain. thank you for the amazing information.
Got the V6 and love it. I've owned it three months and every week I get a comment about how good or smart it looks with people asking what it is! Wouldn't get that in a 440i or S5!
I was expecting alot better from you Matt. Why are journalists impressed that kia do good cars now? They have been doing it for more thsn 10 years with the ceed, sportage and soul. Don't you guys go to auto shows?
Matts right for criticising the car people are going to be paying £30 000 for a car with shitty build quality, handling and interior of it wasn’t for it
swansea007791 Hey mate. Here's my Stinger and both Lexus RC F and IS I traded for it 😉 stingerforum.org/threads/would-you-trade-in-a-lexus-rc-f-and-is-for-a-stinger-gt-limited.1157/
Awfully biased, and definitely biased to the Germans. It actually is more spacious than it's rivals, cheaper, faster. And dare i say it, more reliable than it's German counterparts. And while he's talking about fake vents. Meanwhile Mercedes-Benz is doing fake vents, exhaust tips, noise pumped thru speakers and stuff. Point them out as well!
Been Matt's subscriber for a few years, and this is the most biased review he has ever done. Shaking a center console? Never seen him doing that on other cars. He even took off wheel cover for sake. Funny part is that Audi also make their wheel center cap 5-spoked just like the stinger. Not here to defend Kia but it seems Matt never took it seriously in the first place. Can see it all through the whole review.
Ugh Matt your Audi Sponsor is showing... That Stinger is so much more value than the S5. Try that quality test on the next audi aswell, I would like to see the result.
Hmmm...buy a German brand that will break down within 2 years or get the KIA which will last 10 years. He says the German cars have more space in the back and trunk? Since when? All the reviews show them have hardly any space in back and trunk? Goes to show that these Euro reviews of cars are totally biased towards the Euro cars.
Guess depends on the owner... My BMW 330i (E90) is clocking 148 000 km, spends 1/3 of its time around 200 km/h on the Autobahn... another 1/3 doing 80-120. The only problem it had so far was a gasket leak... kind of understandable when you spend a good 50 000 km over 200 kph though. Although when it comes to Merc's certain people did consistently have problems over the years. That being said though, Kia and Hyundai really are upping their game and 7 years warranty isn't a joke.
Literally from the 2017 Dependability survey: 1. Lexus 2. Porsche 3. Toyota 4. Buick 5. Mercedes-Benz 6. Hyundai 7. BMW Yeah they're so unreliable that they're on par with Hyundai (who owns KIA)
I was about to say that, also a lot of the engineering team were poached from Peugeot. I love how people are saying "look at Kia now, they are now rivalling the Germans", yet most of the car is designed and engineered by Germans.
fancy O no my mom works as a doctor in a expat clinic and once got a client who works for Lexus and he had some colleagues who were hired by Kia together with some Germans who were all fired after a few years
Schreyer was born in 1953 in Bad Reichenhall, Bavaria, West Germany[5] and began studying in 1975 at the Munich University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule München - Industrie Design).[5] He worked with Audi first as a student in 1978,[5] graduating in 1979 with his Industrial Design degree. Subsequently, Schreyer won the Audi Scholarship to study at the Royal College of Art, London from 1979-1980 as a transportation design student.[5] In 1980, Schreyer began working with Audi in exterior, interior and conceptual design. In 1991, he moved to the company's design studio in California.[5] He returned to the Audi Design Concept Studio in 1992, and the following year moved to Volkswagen exterior design department. Schreyer is known for wearing all black clothing, black eyeglasses designed by Philippe Starck,[9] and for his "competitive, inventive and analytic" nature.[9] A GERMAN DESIGNED THE CAR SO WHATS THE DEAL ABOUT YOU SAYING GERMANS DO MUCH BETTER IN DESIGN AND QUALITY?
I saw one of these on holiday recently , and thought wow what’s that! Never seen you review a car and bring the price of its rival up on the car wow website. Very biased, Big thumbs down for me.
it is pretty obvious that the competitors have paid some money to carwow for the review. very biased review from the start till the end. so embarassing.
Usually I really like Mat's reviews but this one was way too negative for a good car. There seemed to be quite some prejudice and a wish to make the Stinger look bad. Hope future reviews will be more objective again
kek not necessarily although there is some truth to it I admit. I just got the impression that Mat was more critical about the Stinger than he is with most other cars. It's trying to compete with premium cars so the Audi and BMW comparisons make sense but the critique just seemed not to be as balanced as it usually is. Not hating on Mat or carwow, they remain my favorite car reviews 😊. Just trying to give some constructive feedback
Taking nothing from Bmw/Audi or Mercedes I really think kia are up there , they make there cars really well if not better than the Germans and I know that after owning both a kia and an Audi.
I watched a lot of your reviews but I never thought I would stumble on something that is so explicitly biased... Nevertheless, it is a shame that the base Kia Stinger in the UK is the most expensive base version in Europe and the US, and that it is overpriced by a silly margin as Kia chose the UK price to reflect Pound Sterling to USD in January 2017 when it was at its lowest point, instead of like now when the Pound has recovered to the place it was before the referendum. The base Kia Stinger goes for 23 000 GBP in the US, unlike 30 500 here.
It's a funny thing you mention tariffs. The UK has a free trade deal with South Korea through the EU. The US places a 15% car import tariff on South Korea. I wonder how it can still be cheaper in the US by almost 40%.
So while others are comparing this kia to a porsche panamera v6 and a bmw 640i gran coupe, in 4 aspects (0-60 acceleration, cornering, slalom and closed course lap) the kia stinger won 2 of them over the porsche being second and the porsche won the other 2 over the kia, whilst bmw finished 3rd on all 4 of these aspects, you are trying to tell us that this car is only considerable and still not as good as the bmw 4series or the audi 5 sports... Even tho the panamera and the bmw 640i gran coupe both stand around 90k and the kia is only 40... And another question, i never saw you punch or try to move around the dashboard in a mercedes/audi/bmw, why did u do that to the kia ? It is so obvious that in this review you are favoring the germans brand just based on the fact that u like the brands more.. Nothing objective here because this stinger, for that price, blows them both away... Just saying
Exactly, i've heard so much great stuff about this car, i looked over the reviewes, even in Matt's review where he is clearly trying to give advantage to the German brands, the Kia look fantastic it's just very noticable that he prefers the German brands and won't give this Kia the credit it deserves, the car is practically a bagrain compared to the Germans, for what it has to offer... Not to mention the cars performance, which i actually did in the comment above, mind blowing..
The reason I watch your channel is because, you are probably the only host who doesn't get carried away by the brand of the car you are reviewing and gets under the skin of it to find out all the "GOODS" and "NOT SO GOODS". Simply amazing. Can you also review bigger vehicles too?
Man, the S5 sportback has scratchy plastic on top of and below the dashboard. It also has plastic paddle shifters and a tacky glossy plastic accent running across the dash. In fact, scratch that, nearly the entire dash in the s5 is plastic, and at least in this kia, the center console is aluminum unlike the plastic in the s5. Not to mention it can cost up to 20K more to be similarly equipped. The problem here is that the Germans have you so convinced that they are superior in quality that you don't even see the obvious when you step inside one of their cars. Of course, you're quick to notice any shortcomings from a brand with a traditionally cheap image. Cars like the 3 series, 4 sries, a4, a5 feel no different from a fully specced accord in terms of materials and quality if you do an objective comparison. However, the german's brand image has everyone seeing through rose-colored glasses. The only german cars from BMW and Audi that feel truly premium are their upmarket models. Mercedes and porsche generally have a premium feel starting at the low end.
I have an audi a4 2009 and the interior is still pretty good comparing to the teared seats and pale dash of an accord 2013 model , I live in Dubai , it's sunny most of the year and only a good quality interiors can stand the climate and stay on shape , accord is not their ,sorry .
another fanboy ignoring the fact that the review is unbiased and Matt is actually praising the car's handling and exterior. Interior and cabin space are truly Stinger's shortcomings.
I have a bone (well a couple lol) to pick with this is review. 1. "What if someone doesnt use an iphone or android?" What the fuck else is there? lol 2. "The speakers look like they copy mercedes" - i ve seen alot of cars you reviewed that copy the merc but you said nothing about them. Even the new lincoln navigator's speakers look like that. 3. You are complaining of the fact that kia claimed mpg was 29 but actually 24, you have reviewed mercs and audis with way worse mileage than suggested by the manufactures and didnt make much of a fuss about it.. This was a shitty biased review.
So the car is a riot, plenty of fun, has good driving dynamics but you only "consider" it? Also a lot cheaper but I suppose it's different in all the markets, a Stinger is only 50k$ while an S5 is 75k$ in Canada, both fully loaded. Talk about a bargain.
I'm a fan of Carwow reviews but the near constant comparisons in this video were too much. It's every other sentence. Just review as a standalone car. It's not a group test.
Owned 3 BMW's. All broke down. That's German 'quality' Own a Toyota Supra. 25 years strong. Own a Stinger.. 2 months but we shall see. But comparing it to German 'quality' it's doing better than at least one of my BMW's so far.
I cocked up when doing the bit to camera - just looked down quick and read the first number. Sometimes rounding while driving aint easy. And really what's 0.7mpg? Not gonna change anyone's opinion. It seems there is a lot of love out there for this car - and I understand it - Kia has been brave and done a good job. But let's see the sales figures, cos really it doesn't matter how many car fans like this car - if people don't end up buying it in decent numbers that positive opinion counts for zip. Take the Toyita GT86 as an example. Everyone loved it...apart from actual carbuyers so in the end it's been a bit of a sales flop. I'm here to advise car buyers, and how they should spend their money.
Would you please make the same "shaking" test on central console in BMWs, Audis or Mercedes? Never saw you do it before, so now I think it is mandatory on next reviews.
I love your reviews Matt! But you said the Kia Stinger Gt S is the same price as an Audi S5 sportback. It is not. According to their websites, the S5 is at least 9000 pounds more expensive. Let's be fair.
@@johnfrench9608 now you're just being biased. He explain that the price can be the same and you argue more about the warranty & equipment? That'a exactly what you're considering when you buy a car in term of price.
I think the S5 sb is a better car. In Sweden, the Audis base version is about 20 percent more expensive. When you start to mark all options you need to make it comparable with the Stinger (when it comes to equipment), it’s pricetag stops at almost 60 percent above Kias. I understand if you prefer the germans solid feel and all it has to offer in terms of premium values, rather than this Asian leep of faith. Personally, i would pick the Stinger due the Audis lack of character. The Audi could as well be an Arteon, a Superb Coupé or a Seat Antiklimax. The Stinger is a Stinger.
If you told me 3-4 years ago I'd be owning a Kia I'd have laughed at you. But I now own a new Sorento and I'm wanting a Stinger. I've owned Audi and BMW in the past. Kia are the most progressive manufacturer, much better than the bigger companies. Well done Kia.
Always seems ridiculous if someone reviewing a performance car but still moaning about practicality and fuel consumption... And yeah about the Brand. Well, open minded person will able to embrace the Brand because everything is evolving. And if we are smart enough we will able to see which product that will works on the market, and if it's actually good means you will become a part of history. Next 5 or 10 years when this brand become huge, you can proud to yourself because you already use this brand at the beginning of their fame....
Found this review to be totally biased in many ways . I’ve owned both German cars and currently have a Kia Stinger GT1 so I can’t comment on the 2.0 Turbo. Is the car perfect - no but as an overall grand touring it’s a wonderful package. It’s quick, refined, stable, comfortable and very practical. The warranty is first class and I’m not having to pay BMW / Audi parts/labor. It’s also rare and also a great looking vehicle. One of the greatest things is it feels special and unique. Some owners of the Stinger who use them as daily’s love them and they own brand new BMW M6, M5 etc. I’m the first to say I was a brand snob that when ever I would get a rental car (which was often) would take anything just don’t give me a Kia. This car doesn’t drive, feel or look like a Kia but more German. Just in the same way Skoda went from being laughable brand and now considered a reputable brand when brought out by VW. Kia are not the cars that they were 10 years ago. I purchased my Stinger with low miles and couldn’t be happier. If your a car enthusiast, enjoy driving and want a sporty car that is German engineered at a fraction of the cost then the Stinger should be on your list. Better reviews of the Stinger you can find on Carfection, Doug Demuro and google Jeremy Clarkson review on Stinger and Evo Car Magazine. In a market that is saturated with SUV, drag races where we know Tesla is King (until you get to 120mph) - the Stinger is a breath of fresh air. Thanks Kia for having the balls to actually risk a lot and bring the concept of the Stinger to reality.
German cars are shit boxes too, according to JD Power rankings. You just pay 80% on their badge and 15% on maintenance and repair and 5% on luxury features. I don't even want to talk about reliability issues.
I don’t think he was bias. He enjoyed the car, he just stated that it isn’t better than the Germans. This is Kia’s first attempt. I think they did a good job considering the Germans have been doing this for decades.
Pretty horrible review if you ask me. The basic gist of the review: Pros: X is pretty good for a kia You wouldn't expect X on a kia X is on this kia X performs well for a kia You wouldnt expect a kia to do X etc. Cons: X isnt as good as a bmw X isnt as good as a mercedes X isnt as good as an Audi X isnt what you'd expect on a european etc. You can literally find flaws on any car if you compare it to what's out there on the market Review it on it's own merit. This is one of the worst car reviews I've come across
I just took delivery of mine today. It’s not perfect but it certainly doesn’t have much of the problems Matt says there are. Furthermore, the drivers seat automatically moves to the furthest position when you open the door to get out. It doesn’t move back forward until a driver sits in the seat and then closes the door. Hence why Matt feels so cramped in the back - the seat is pushed the furthest back
Those who are critical of Mat, I get it, but I do remember an old review of Kia Optima where Mat says it looks as good as a Lexus! I just wish Mat was not critical of the car just because of the brand Kia... It's a common man's BMW!!
I'd love to own a stinger very few on a road I enjoy driving something unique... In Toronto where I live I see Benz Audi and BMW everyday... You know how often I see a Stinger like never...
This is the guy who blew up several Hyundai transmissions at nationwide "tuning" events, he is also the worse tuner of every forum he is/was ever a part of. All numbers and no reliability.
Well, 440i GC is the German choice I would go for here, but as both BMW and Kia owner, I would not have problem buying Stinger, you would save much more on the running costs too.
Oscar Dominguez lol german cars are not what they used to be 10 or more years ago! Koreans are kicking their ass with reliability and cheap maintenance
Good point. That apples and oranges price comparison with an Audi was utterly shameless. Does VAG advertising fund CarWow or is this just Matt's prejudice?
I think, that the problem with this review is the issue with "value-for-money". At 2:00 Matt says that this car (The V6 GTS) costs over 40K GBP. Let's say, it's 41K. With the GTS trim level, this thing is fully equipped, so it literally has everything (including the new active safety features like lane-keep-assist etc.). Then Matt points out, that through carbuyer, you can get offers from dealers, AND that (as he shows it to us) you can get an Audi S5 SB for around 43K. However. 1. Matt doesn't show us, what kind of discounts we can get for THIS GTS Kia. Currently it says 0,- GBP. Is it 0,- GBP though? And, the only option left to choose is a 650 GBP color... 2. The S5 which Matt shows us - (43K GPB) comes without a few things. And Audi options are expensive. For example: Audi HUD is 900 GBP. Kia? Standard. So... there is a couple of tousand pounds to spend. To sum up, I firmly belive, that the Audi or BMW is a better car than the Kia (the main reason is weight btw, which Matt also failed to point out... oddly). However, I think, that the Kia is better value at a cheaper SRP, longer warranty, but depreciation...? No idea. I would definitely recommend to try this thing out before buying an Audi or BMW.
In general - you are right, and I agree. But there are exceptions. Like what Chris Harris said about the Lexus GS F. Or what Jeremy Clarkson Thinks about the Nissan GTR, or the Lexus LFA. And I would buy an N/A Mazda 6 before a cheater VW Passat anyday. People undervalue reliability.
I sat in one today. Not gonna lie it’s surprisingly nice. The wheel raises up and down automatically making it easy to get in and out. My dream car has been the Audi A5 Sportback but this i can get a dual turbo V6... decisions decisions. Also maintenance is more affordable
C'mon Mat, you know very well that people want this car because of the V6. Taking the V6 out of the Stinger GT is a bit like taking away the fish from fish and chips.
Ok Lorenzo Volvo are very nice quality and comfy indeed but are already quite expensive.. so, if you do that i think you could have 2 cheaper Stingers instead of an well equipped pricey Volvo..
kishan harripersad well people might rather have a lower spec A5 over the Kia. I certainly would. Buying the more expensive cars does mean less equipment. Look at an S Class standard equipment, then you will be truly amazed. Let’s just say that it doesn’t even have 4 zone climate control, only 2. For comparison an Audi A4 has 3 zone and the A6 4 zone as standard. Now that’s a joke at double the price at £71,000 compared to the A6 at just under £40,000
Where German cars like Audi, BMW will start breaking within a year of owning, this Kia stinger will be a solid performer as their after sales service is industry leading.
I’ve got a BMW M140i and this Kia looks like it’s replacement. For the record my BMW interior has not lasted well in its 3 year life, it’s no 7 series but the Germans do cheap as well
Hi Mat Watson here.
He´s pressing with his palms, he would not get enough pressure if he pushed with his fingers.
Well done Mat ! It's hard to some kia lovers to swallow the truth ... let them choke with your video proof
My 2003 Toyota Yaris will outlast any German made cars,.... 15 years....almost ZERO problems,...!!! My other car is A Toyota...
RAIZAL MOHAMMAD:
Only poor people in third world countries stay 15 years with the same car, normal people exchange cars every 3 to 5 years.

"It doesn't have the German quality", well, that is a good thing because it won’t break down twice a year and even if it did, it won’t cost a fortune. German quality…
SammyT Japanese cars surely are reliable for the latter
No one is sure what the reliability will be on this Stinger. It’s all new technology for KIA. Don’t speak so soon.
"German reliability" is such an oxymoron. I've been there and learned the hard way😂
Quality and reliability are not the same
This seems like an RWD car with build quality/design/materials of an economy car. It’s good for a Korean car, but that’s about it.
I have one. The same S model. It's an absolute joy. I've had it 3 months and still feels exciting every drive honestly.
So Matt who's 5 ft 10, complains about head room in the back but Doug who's 6 ft 3, says he fits there just fine.
ahvike124 Dougls a rubbish reviewer
he actually films himself in the back seat and he fits just fine
Exactly. I have seen that review just a few minutes ago. Even Motor Trend has no complaint about it except the hood.
I didn’t know I was watching an Audi review
Who pays the bills
Wow...this guy made his mind up before he got out of bed....I went out with an open mind....and bought one. It's ace...
Doug Demuro made a review for this car and it's a lot better and realistic than this one.
Very well said, lack of objectivity is an issue in this vid....
Zoltan Varga As if his other reviews don't suffer from the same sponsored subjectivity.
Meni Fo He's pretty entertaining, I'll give him that. And when he's comparing Euro to Euro, he's generally quite objective and fair.
Danny Lim How fair is it to compare the price of an A5 after the discount with that of the Stinger before the discount?
Carwow drinking game....
Everytime Matt says "German" or "German rivals" have a drink. You'll never see the end of another video. 👍🍹🍺🥂
This is a leap forward for Kia. In the near future will be equally competitive with German rivals, this is an excellent car.

Maybe not lying but mistaken
I just watched Doug's review on this car and it honestly was much better, he reviews the car for what it is and not totally based on the brand itself. You didn't even mention the style of the car or the safety equipment.
Matheus Carvalho Totally agree with you there, man. I watched his review as well before watching this, and I think his is much better.
True. He didn’t mention the styling, which he always does in other videos.
Doug knows nothing about cars.
He talked about *AUDI & BMW* so much I forgot this was a *KIA* review, (tut tut)!😨
Robert Bold clearly on Audi’s payroll, won’t say a bad word about them
Go and watch comparisons where carwow features audis - matt always mentiones the negatvies of the cars, like the looks and the distant driving experience
Because that´s the task the stinger has ahead of him for that price point. Since the car is no bargain you have to compare it to it´s rivals, which mainly are Audi, BMW and Mercedes.
Free4Noob Stinger is not in the same price bracket as the equivalent German with similar specs.
Ignore the badge. Its an amazing car. With a 8 year warranty
You’re comparing the base price of the Audi s5 sportback with the top of the range Kia, that’s an unfair comparison.
Yes. He compares the DISCOUNTED Base level Audi. But the Audi does have the class trailing 3 year warranty.. Ahem.....biased review all round..
re AutoBum
The most expensive Stinger in UK - 41,140 GBP
Basic S5 Sportback in UK - 49,495.00 GBP
If you add stuff you already have in 41k Stinger, S5 is 57,500.00 GBP. 41k vs. 57,5k. thats the point, its not that close, so trashing Stinger in video for pricing is lame.
R1S0 well if you say tat big difference, in Australia that more like stinger gt 60k and base S5 mid 110, you can have stinger plus A4
BBBBBBBBBBBefw but you still have that goddamn engine warranty lmao
You may dislike the car and not feel that posh but I wouldn't regret it for buying it. Today's cars are mostly short lived until a breakdown occurs. Kia vehicles however, are one of the most reliable ones today.
@Yushiro Tanabe it's their(Korean cars, especially Kia) rather long warranty period that is more significant.
Danny Lim I agree
Agree 100%: don't care about Kia or ANY other car manufacturer but have he tried a similar "test" on any other car? Am I wrong? Ok, tell me...
I have an Audi and the centre console doesn’t wobble like that’s at all!
Shobin Drogan if he can do that it quite possible it’ll be something that will rattle or squeak or both, maybe not now but in the future.
NZsarge1 Then he should've done that wobble test on every single car he's in. This is the first time I'm seeing him yank the center console on a car like that. He's never even do it on an economy car before.
What that supposed to be a 12 minute advert for the Audi A5 Sportback?
I do not know where the evidence for some of your claims come from Matt. The Kia Stinger has a 23.3 cubic feet trunk whilst the BMW 4 series Gran Coupe, you quote as being larger, only has 17. Please check your facts if you are going to give consumer advice.

As a matter of fact, the Stinger has a lot of "German" in it. It is designed by Peter Schreyer and was engineered by Albert Biermann from BMW.
Autodevot yes! And it was built by KIA! It could have been designed by the Pope, but it does not mean it will become automatically celestial. 😉
I was about to say that, also a lot of the engineering team were poached from Peugeot. I love how people are saying "look at Kia now, they are now rivalling the Germans", yet most of the car is designed and engineered by Germans.
The thing about Kia is that they hire German car engineers, pay them twice as much and fire them when they don’t need them anymore. True story
Martin Ssempa are you one of the fired engineers???

Schreyer was born in 1953 in Bad Reichenhall, Bavaria, West Germany[5] and began studying in 1975 at the Munich University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule München - Industrie Design).[5] He worked with Audi first as a student in 1978,[5] graduating in 1979 with his Industrial Design degree. Subsequently, Schreyer won the Audi Scholarship to study at the Royal College of Art, London from 1979-1980 as a transportation design student.[5]
In 1980, Schreyer began working with Audi in exterior, interior and conceptual design. In 1991, he moved to the company's design studio in California.[5] He returned to the Audi Design Concept Studio in 1992, and the following year moved to Volkswagen exterior design department.
Schreyer is known for wearing all black clothing, black eyeglasses designed by Philippe Starck,[9] and for his "competitive, inventive and analytic" nature.[9]

so embarassing.
Usually I really like Mat's reviews but this one was way too negative for a good car.
There seemed to be quite some prejudice and a wish to make the Stinger look bad.
Hope future reviews will be more objective again
objective=agreeing with me
kek not necessarily although there is some truth to it I admit.
And far more affordable. I'd pick a Telluride over an endeavour or an x8 or a GLS anyday. Just Korean engineering making a new class of Asian muscle.
It’s just a Kia
I watched a lot of your reviews but I never thought I would stumble on something that is so explicitly biased...
Nevertheless, it is a shame that the base Kia Stinger in the UK is the most expensive base version in Europe and the US, and that it is overpriced by a silly margin as Kia chose the UK price to reflect Pound Sterling to USD in January 2017 when it was at its lowest point, instead of like now when the Pound has recovered to the place it was before the referendum. The base Kia Stinger goes for 23 000 GBP in the US, unlike 30 500 here.
one word: tariffs
This video brought to you by Audi, BMW and Mercedes.
another fanboy ignoring the fact that the review is unbiased and Matt is actually praising the car's handling and exterior. Interior and cabin space are truly Stinger's shortcomings.
thinmichael1 shut the hell up. Annoying as hell. Bashing on everyone 's opinion just cause it is different from the unwanted urs. Go away.
Totally
I have a bone (well a couple lol) to pick with this is review.
1. "What if someone doesnt use an iphone or android?" What the fuck else is there? lol
Talk about a bargain.
he is a britcars influencer wannabe, so ...
I'm a fan of Carwow reviews but the near constant comparisons in this video were too much. It's every other sentence. Just review as a standalone car. It's not a group test.
Owned 3 BMW's. All broke down. That's German 'quality'
Own a Toyota Supra. 25 years strong.
Own a Stinger.. 2 months but we shall see. But comparing it to German 'quality' it's doing better than at least one of my BMW's so far.
How is it after more than a year?
Mat, 24.7 mpg is much nearer to 25 than 24. You do this a lot in your reviews, and was wondering why you feel the need to do this?
rafflesnh because it doesn't matter that much tbh, 1mpg won't make a big difference
I'm here to advise car buyers, and how they should spend their money.
carwow Ford Escort sold lots was still a shit car lolol, sales figures only tell you so much.
That journos such as me as a waste of time....Maybe it's time to resign and go back to being a chartered accountant.
Would you please make the same "shaking" test on central console in BMWs, Audis or Mercedes? Never saw you do it before, so now I think it is mandatory on next reviews.
if he shakes it on German cars it would break or crack
It doesn’t shake! Well mine doesn’t. 😉
Test drove Stinger. There is slight movement when you push really hard but i wouldnt be concerned no ones gonna push it like that
ruclips.net/video/MCgZYhX9QnM/видео.html Boi. Look at what he made for you! :-)
My dad works at Kia and I was the first kid to ride in it in Australia
It’s a bit sad that they won’t make another one😢
PhreshFunk 🤦♂️🤦♀️
I love your reviews Matt! But you said the Kia Stinger Gt S is the same price as an Audi S5 sportback. It is not. According to their websites, the S5 is at least 9000 pounds more expensive. Let's be fair.
+John Holst watch the vid.... With carwow discounts they work out the same!
And the Audi has the same spec? Who is to say you cannot get some discount on the Kia and it has a 7 year warranty
@@johnfrench9608 now you're just being biased. He explain that the price can be the same and you argue more about the warranty & equipment? That'a exactly what you're considering when you buy a car in term of price.
carwow yeah not specd the same, and why not look for discount on Kia?
@@carwow Now add the gadge to an A5!!!!!!!!!! and add that extra warranty!!!. THEN stick the Stinger into Carwow. FAKE NEWS!
Are you paid by German brands...?
he is biased and un r e l e i b l e
Really disappointed with Matt's bias here.
It's a shitbox. If you like it or not.
@@ajlee6933 I completely agree
@@IBo99608 loud mouth but no proof, a wimp's attitude
This car is amazing value for its money.
Pretty horrible review if you ask me. The basic gist of the review:
Pros:
X is pretty good for a kia
You wouldn't expect X on a kia
X is on this kia
X performs well for a kia
You wouldnt expect a kia to do X
etc.
Cons:
X isnt as good as a bmw
X isnt as good as a mercedes
X isnt as good as an Audi
X isnt what you'd expect on a european
etc.
You can literally find flaws on any car if you compare it to what's out there on the market
Review it on it's own merit. This is one of the worst car reviews I've come across
Kia Stinger : 23.3 cubic feet trunk > BMW 4 series Gran Coupe : 17 cubic feet trunk. This channel can't even get a spec right.
If you like this car, wait 18 months, and buy a low mileage used Stinger...and save half. There’ll be plenty available too.
golfbuddy1969 we need more people like you in the world
H DOLLAR hahaha! Just trying to save some folks some $$$$.
to buy used one is not the same as new one ;) I highky recommend to experience buying a car with 0 miles ;) you will be amazed how you will feel ;)
Can you explain why this would happen?
I just took delivery of mine today. It’s not perfect but it certainly doesn’t have much of the problems Matt says there are. Furthermore, the drivers seat automatically moves to the furthest position when you open the door to get out. It doesn’t move back forward until a driver sits in the seat and then closes the door. Hence why Matt feels so cramped in the back - the seat is pushed the furthest back
So much praise for the Germans and especially Audi. Let Kia enjoy it's moment.
Those who are critical of Mat, I get it, but I do remember an old review of Kia Optima where Mat says it looks as good as a Lexus! I just wish Mat was not critical of the car just because of the brand Kia... It's a common man's BMW!!
Dudes not even 6' complaining about 6'4".... LMAO 😂😂
Can you shake all cars center console in all your nxt videos pls...just that you stay consistent and objective across brands and reviews..
I've seen him shake other cars, they were fine. Stop being butthurt. It's a cheaply made car.
The fitting is still better than Fords, that's German
@@Hunter_Bidens_Crackpipe_ but kia fixed it in jan 2018 ;) its now stiff as hell ;)
It's a KIA, what do you expect.
@@titoyolo240 ford isn't german
The KIA Stinger is very much underated. We have one as a shop car, and have been modifying it with huge success.
Mystkal Diamond i have driven and even own a BMW, lol. I also own a Stinger, so thank you, bye :)
I'd love to own a stinger very few on a road I enjoy driving something unique... In Toronto where I live I see Benz Audi and BMW everyday... You know how often I see a Stinger like never...
Update on our shop Stinger GT... 455 WHP now. I wonder how many BMW's and Merc's will see the tail end of a "KIA"?
Tork Motorsports what modifications?
This is the guy who blew up several Hyundai transmissions at nationwide "tuning" events, he is also the worse tuner of every forum he is/was ever a part of. All numbers and no reliability.
Yes mat it isn't made like an audi BMW or Mercedes In that the electronics work on it and comes with a 7 years warranty.
Mat, that Audi with the same kit as Stinger cost like 20 000 pound more. Unfair comparison.
Doupik rather have base S5 than Full equipped Stinger IMO
KonkolyD man don't ever compare Korean norJapanese cars to bmw or Audi to true enthusiasts guys, I agree with you though
Garbage review tbh. Matt is boring in 2018. He's not enthusiastic anymore
Felix Chan put that v6 in new volvo cars 😂 they would be just perfect
Romeo bastard now I'm hungry
Ok Lorenzo Volvo are very nice quality and comfy indeed but are already quite expensive.. so, if you do that i think you could have 2 cheaper Stingers instead of an well equipped pricey Volvo..
How expensive is the v6 model in the UK. The base v6 model is €120.000,- in the Netherlands.
Nah nah nah. Chippy chips are fucking great so nah.
you should add options to that A5 and see how much it costs then... really disappointed by the lack of common sense shown in this review
kishan harripersad well people might rather have a lower spec A5 over the Kia.
Are the audi sponsored this test or vag?
Eldar R this guy probably is german like the british monarchy.
It's not because someone doesn't agree with you that they were payed for it.
