Great video and detail. If I didn't already own one it would certainly help with my decision. Mine is a 69 plate so slight update. Better exhaust note and an improvement to the sunroof rattle, now only in extreme temps of 30 plus it creaks and that's only the seals.
I'm glad you included details about the servicing, and compared options with the competitors as so many seem to miss this out.
Mine is a daily, average 11-12k a year. Now the only car in the house so averages 25.8mpg with the missus's commute through town. On a run best iv had is 38mpg and iv added a dreaded towbar and it doesnt notice the caravan when towing and still returns 25-28mpg over 100miles.
Best car iv had, come from audi a5 and then bmw, missus loves the stinger and I get to stick it sideways when on quiet roads with no worries about it ending in a ditch.
For me best car by far, and would recommend to anybody even looking for something close to this.

I agree..its a shame this car didn't sell well but on a positive note, it means that people like me, who are not perpetually loyal to a brand or are unable to understand that people and brands CAN evolve, will have access to an excellent and modestly priced vehicle. 😊

I really liked them but if I was gonna get one had to be the GT2 but 50k for any car for me just couldn’t do it and to drop that on an untested new car I couldn’t bring myself to do it maybe I missed out but maybe I can still snag one for a steal or maybe they come back I think the reason they didn’t sell was the price point honestly if this came out under 40k they would be everywhere

@DemonTime08 You know, this kind of decent car cannot be sold under 40k. Kia sold such a high quality Stinger just at 50k and almost did not make any profit. They had sold it only to enhance their brand image.

I’m on my second brand-new Stinger now. I bought a 2018 GT2 AWD and just traded it in a few months ago for a 2023 GT2 AWD with the Grand Tourer Package. I love this car so much that I had to own the final model year for it. My favorite car I’ve ever owned - reliable, unique, fast and fun, comfortable for long drives, and spacious.
I hauled my twin babies and all their gear for 3 years in my 2018 and I was shocked at what I could fit in the back with a big twin stroller, two playpens, several suitcases, and other stuff for a trip we took.
I’ve never been a brand snob with anything and I love the fact that it’s a KIA; I’m proud of what Hyundai/KIA/Genesis have done. Before I married, I leased several fun BMWs but I always had a slight feeling I may have appeared pretentious to people I didn’t know. They were great cars, but I leased them all so they were under warranty while I had them.
As far as reliability, check out this video of KIA’s engine torture testing. They run all their engines nonstop at Redline for 300 hours straight and only stop to change the oil! That’s like running the 24hrs of Le Mans for two weeks straight 😳

It confirmed many rumors I heard (Kia’s are reliable now for example)

Wish the Grand tourer model had been a thing in 2020 when I bought mine. That's the best package imo. Interior is really nice, has all the nice black bits but doesn't have the ugly 🦂 spoiler. I was looking at a indigo blue special edition model before I bought my car. Drove an hour a way, was told one thing over the phone, got there and it was a different story. The brown interior looks better in person and I love that color. Wasn't a fan of the brown steering wheel and the stock wheel design on that car but I wish those idiots had been straight up form the jump with me

I own a 2018 Stinger GT here in Australia, and in 3 days time, I will have owned it for 6 years. I just want to say its so satisfying to finally see someone call out Matt Watson about the shaking the centre console especially, such a dumb thing to do or even think about doing at all, as a Stinger owner that really left me frustrated, as if he was being a Kia badge snob.

i was in the market a few months ago for one of these, that was just a bit too much out of my budget from a kia dealership with very low miles but i was considering it. Despite only having less 12k miles and 3 years old - those years were over the covid time. So the guy who had previously owned had it serviced once a year only (remember how difficult it was to go for a walk even) and many will be the same. When i pushed the dealer he admitted the warranty was void as a result but i could put a third party warranty on if i wanted. Add the service plan which made little sense if kia warranty was void. Anyway when i did the numbers it pushed it way more than i wanted to pay/could afford for the few miles i now do (retired). I bought a Lexus instead. I will though go for one of these in the future as they are great and are becoming more affordable for me SO LONG AS it been kept under warranty by six month services. Check service record carefully.

Im in this position too, looking for one of these but noticed already a couple with missing services and therefore out of warranty. The facelift GT is +£40k RRP and therefore comes under luxury car tax 🤦‍♂️ whilst its much cheaper than its German counterparts, its still an expensive car to maintain

Been wanting to watch this for a while, but I'm still living the MX5 dream atm (not that I'm looking for an excuse or blame 😂). I purchased my MX5 off the back of your channel, and I've not been disappointed. Its small enough to work on and fun enough to enjoy on short trips to the supermarket.
Moving on to today... I've secretly admired the Stinger since I first heard one. It was an absolute headturning moment. A wow, what was that etc etc. If my circumstances were different, I'd buy one tomorrow. I can see why you have enthused about the car and share your disappointment that Kia haven't sold more units. I feel the Kia Stinger will be around as an 'owner's favourite' for many years ❤

The car is amazingly quiet on the road. No rattles or squeaks at all. You can tell the Koreans take a lot of pride in screwing this vehicle together. Put together as well as or better than any Honda or Acura I have ever owned. Hyundai/KIA/Genesis are knocking it out of the park. .

We bought a Stinger GT-S in April 2023 and have no regrets. It replaced an A3 2.0 TFSI quattro, that I absolutely loved but odd things kept going wrong and the dealers are just s**t. That replaced an A1 that also had a serious fault early on (fortunately fixed under warranty). Just after we got the Stinger, we asked the local Kia dealer to do everything they could and that was an expensive service but now we have another service coming up for much, much less money. So far it's been great and we're really happy.

He couldn't touch the price I paid, though. $29,941 for one with 48K miles. Beautiful Micro Blue. Keep an eye on the pricing. Especially with Kia discontinuing production. Considered a “ niche” following, the Stinger has rather a large following here in Australia. Apart from the Mustang, there is no other performance vehicle available.

It’s uncommon enough to be unique and a head turner, practical for a family even tho it’s a fastback and “ fun/ fast “ enough to get you in trouble now and then 😉

Now is the time? I've had my Stinger for 4 years already. Paid 36k brand new for the car in 2020. Very steep discounts on these cars during covid. I went the base awd gt route, which saved me a few thousand. Swapped in the nav and better screen out of the gt1/gt2 which only cost me $500 + sweat equity. Car has been nothing but reliable. Have only done routine maintenance and the $5 hatch rattle fix. I have replaced some tires though as i have a tendency to run over things, which isn't the cars fault. I run squared 18" G70 wheels with Blizzaks on it in winter. ❄️ A foot on April 1st 2023, the car did amazingly well. Ideally, I'd prefer to have a Grand touring model, cant beat the interior colors and the black exterior bits on the outside.

I think the Octavia wins for out and out practicality but the 2.0 Stinger wins for rareness, specialness, reliability, features, looks and a warranty that just keeps on going!
It'd be my choice but I'd totally get why the VRs might be the best car for a large family, for example.

That’s seven year warranty. You really should read the fine print. You realise that the seven year warranty is not exactly what you think it is. For example, the infotainment system in the car is only covered for three years. There’s a whole lot of fine print in That warranty read it.

I did actually know that it's not a full 'bumper to bumper' warranty but foolishly forgot to include that info in the review.
So far though they've been great, he's had to have the sunroof creak sorted and the rear view camera sorted a couple of times and they've just helped straight away.

Kia's 6 year/100,000 mile warranty doesn't transfer to the 2nd owner, or at least it doesn't in the US. The 2nd owner only gets a warranty for 50,000 miles.

      Hey Chris!
Thanks for your comment mate, and don't worry I'm planning on doing more frequent uploads ASAP. It's been my first full year of freelancing and work has gone a bit mad. So sometimes when I've been on 5 shoots in a week it's hard to choose to run out and spend another day shooting haha! But I really miss doing it and I've actually got a good few cars lined up, so I'll make a point of getting those done before the winter weather makes it tricky!
I'm afraid I have sold the MX-5 (reluctantly!) to help finance some extra video gear in the short term and to remove an extra cost over my head. I'm sure I'll get another one day or something of a very similar nature for some fun! I have bought a new car since the Civic too, so that'll be fun to review the 10 month review of that soon!

The reason the Stinger did not sell well here in the UK is because Kia UK did not promote it at all! The buck stops with Kia UK!!

    • @petrolpoodle
      @petrolpoodle  7 месяцев назад +2

Yeah to be fair I don't remember seeing enough promotion of it! That said, it was absolutely all over every single RUclips channel, all the big car magazines etc so I think it was put under a decent amount of petrohead noses. I just think too many people can't let go of what a Kia is the in UK.
The US love Kia and have less of a brand snobbery attitude towards it, it sold pretty well there.

Last year 2023 was the final production model year of the Stinger, hence buying a used one is not a good idea given that parts will be in short supply

    • @petrolpoodle
      @petrolpoodle  4 месяца назад +1

My understanding is that car manufacturers are required to produce spare parts for something like 10-15 years after a car finishes being on sale anyway, so it shouldn't be a worry. They're built so incredibly well I think they'll serve people extremely well for a very long time to come!
