I now use a cast iron tortilla press for "rolling out" all of my pastry dough and I can't recommend it enough! You place dough between parchment or plastic and you don't even have to clean the press either. So fast and easy!
My favorite homemade pop tart, that I still remember from decades ago (boomer here) is a pecan maple bacon one. One of the neighbor's mom's made them and there were only a couple of kids on our road that liked them..the bacon freaked em out a little. I think it was a maple cream cheese filling or maybe a maple cooked custard, with pecans. and I know it was candied bacon and nuts on top.. under a royal icing back and forth drizzle on top. No.. decades ago, it was not even close to keto.
I looked up the standard maple cream cheese filling recipe and it should be easy to make keto since half the ingredients already are (cream cheese and heavy cream) and I found a recipe for candied bacon so it should be possible to recreate your childhood ones as a low carb version!

I would suggest swapping the lilly's peanut butter cups for quest peanut butter cups. The calories are slightly higher, but the macros are better. Thanks for the recipes.
When I was a child, I used to get $1 from my gramma for my birthday every year. I would use it to buy a box of Pop Tarts (at least until they started putting the frosting on it). Once a year; that was it.
Blueberry WITHOUT frosting slathered in butter right after toasting...yum! The last time I had one it tasted awful...too many chemicals and preservatives.
Oh yes! I loved the strawberry and the cherry with no frosting. I would break them into pieces and nibble right up to the edges. I didn’t like the edges which I thought tasted like stale saltines.
Generally, when making regular tarts, you’re instructed to dip the fork into flour. Perhaps dipping it in almond flour might work. I will probably find out today as I picked about a quart of raspberries yesterday. 😋
I have - using a bit of sweetener and vanilla in my ice water to give a bit of flavor to the crusts. I used homemade alternatively sweetened jams as the fillings. I also glazed rather than frosted because it was too sweet. I have made them several times and even non-keto folks liked them. The crusts need to be returned to the fridge to firm if they get warm and delicate, but that was the only issue.
Frozen Berry Medley at Aldi! Strawberries, blueberries and raspberries!! And I was thinking the same thing that there's gonna be a lot of seeds in those frozen raspberries!
Congratulations on your ride Wes! Thank you for this video! This is something Ive wanted to make for a long time but I’m always intimidated by the dough. It actually looks pretty easy as long as you keep it cold enough. Both recipes look phenomenal!

Hey Wes great video. Victoria just did a pastry crust maybe hers would work for this recipe as well? Keep the amazing info coing, your amazing. Congrats on your ride.
From Kindergarten through 3rd grade I ate a bowl of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies for breakfast with half & half and one inch of sugar on top, waiting to eat it until the sugar absorbed the cream and cracked all over the top. From 4th grade until 7th grade I had one can of Campbell’s Chicken with Rice soup - mixed with 3/4 can of water instead of a whole can - for breakfast every single morning except on Sunday when my Father made pancakes. From 8th grade until my Sophomore year of college I ate two Raspberry Pop Tarts and one envelope of Mocha-flavored Instant Breakfast in a glass of milk. Every single morning. Since my Junior year of university I have coffee with Coffeemate and no food until lunch. They stopped making Instant Breakfast. It was a personal crisis. 😳😬I can literally call up the taste of the Instant Breakfast and Pop Tart with great longing. This video is going to be my effort to master: Keto Pop Tarts. 😂 Please reinvent Mocha Instant Breakfast now so I can be happy again. 🤪🤣😂🤣😂 (If you detect OCD, you would be correct. Don’t you feel sorry for my Mother, RIP, who dealt with 18 years of the pickiest, most obsessive eater ever?? 🤎😂😂 It may be genetically passed on because God blessed me with an OCD picky eater of my own. I learned scientifically that a little boy actually can survive to become a star athlete in high school living solely on cheese pizza, chicken nuggets, strawberry yogurt, and water!). 💥
I really wish you would have tried Victoria’s keto Kitchens pastry dough to make these. I cant do coconut flour and both the recipes have coconut flour.
I have a brother-in-law who has done the ALC several times. We always went down to the VA Hospital in West LA there to cheer everyone on as they came in. What did you think of "The Evil Twins" and "The Quad Buster"? My BIL said there were some who would do those hills multiple times!
That’s awesome! It was a wonderful experience! Luckily, some of the hills we trained on here in San Diego were equally (or more) difficult than Quadbuster and the Evil Twins. That helped, but they certainly weren’t easy! Haha! (And you’re right… it’s become popular to do the bigger hills multiple times on the ride. Some folks have donors that will give them $1,000 for each time they make it up Quadbuster, so they livestream it and rack up huge donations.) LOL Smart!
I actually have a "pop tart" crimper that my daughter gave me several years ago. The peanut butter one sounds disgusting to me, but that's because I can't stand peanut butter. Not even when I was a kid. I hated PB&J. So, the raspberry ones intrigue me. I'll have to try them out and see if my crimper would work, or if the pastry dough would stick really badly. It also makes them the correct size, so at least they could potentially be more consistent than I could roll and cut them myself.
I thought for sure one of the recipes would be from: All day I dream about food.. She has a pop tart recipe too.. I haven't tried it though. All her recipes look delicious! Correction! She has Pop Tart bars.. they look fantab though!
i would be interested in a COST breakdown of each recipe , then the cost per serving. The chocolate ones have gotto be very expensive. My local stores price gouge Keto items and the Lilly's products are very expensive. Im talking $ 8.00 or more for that little bag of peanut butter cups. In this case, i am happy that the fruit version " won" because i wont be spending that kind of money to make 4 chocolate tarts.
Agreed that Lily’s has gotten to be so expensive that it’s just an occasional treat for me. (And what’s odd is that I feel like it’s gotten more expensive just in the last few years - right when they were bought out by Hershey!)
It’s in the linked recipe. Just the confectioners sweetener and 1 tablespoon of heavy cream. Super duper easy! Check the links for the complete original recipe. :-)
Congrats on finishing AIDS/Lifecycle! I used to volunteer to welcome y’all at the finish line and the snack/t-shirt tents. It’s an amazing event for a good cause!
Wes, I cannot believe we are still doing AIDS fundraisers! I remember when it was discovered, the devastation, Princess Diana trying to end stigma, Ryan White, the death of Freddie Mercury months before treatments were available. More power to you and the charity you raised money for!
So very true. People around my age (49) spent years learning about the dangers of HIV and how prevention was the *only* answer. It seems that now, because of the powerful medications used to prevent and treat it, the younger generation doesn’t fear it as much as we did. There’s a lot of education still needed about what these (miracle) drugs do to your body and how insanely expensive they are! Avoiding it is still the best option - and kids aren’t hearing that message today like we did. My generation and older also remembers losing friends and community members to the disease. Thanks for your kind words, Ruby.
Not everyone is sensitive to oxalates. And no studies have shown them to be a problem for people with normal digestion. They’ve just recently become the “boogeyman of the day.” (Our gut microbiome has a bacteria called *oxalobactor formigenes* that specifically digests oxalates.) So, I don’t generally avoid almond flour. If you are following a low-oxalate diet for health reasons, you may want to look for a channel that specializes in that, rather than expecting a low carb channel to focus on low-oxalate foods. Best of luck! :-)
OMG Wesley! Pop Tarts? Really? The p*rn of breakfast foods? Okay, I may have had one in my entire 76 years on this planet. I'm trying to open my mind. It just seems wrong but perhaps I'll give it a chance 🙂
Thanks for the tip! Should have done that instead of trying the oil. (Others have mentioned cold water on the fork as well.) Thankfully, chilling the dough again helped save my mess! Haha!
there as many diff ways people do keto as there are people doing it. honestly if you cant eat it, then dont. lots of people eat a lot of things that many cant... some have health reasons some dont. also: if you follow one person and just do what youre told without thinking and evaluating for your needs and situation, isnt that just being a follower? i mean..if that guy told you to not watch videos like this...would you still? at least learn to let other people do things differently than YOUR "guru" says...some of us follow others who say differently..and some dont follow any one particular person.
I became a Patreon Member to Your channel. I love how You try new recipes. Serious Keto has a recipe for a Ranch Dressing. Anyway, I hope that Everything is going well for You. Thank You for sharing Your talents with Us. Bless You And Your Family. 😊👍🏼👋🏼
Not everyone eats low carb and keto for weight loss. Many do it to treat illnesses like epilepsy (particularly juvenile refractory epilepsy), depression, migraine disorder, psoriasis, Alzheimer’s, Type 1 diabetes, liver disease and other conditions that aren’t necessarily related to weight or food addiction issues. If eating a pastry treat made of almonds, butter and raspberries makes them happy and keeps them within their health guidelines, who are we to judge? No one is here to shame someone for eating something they like. This recipe IS “real food” with “real” ingredients. It’s certainly healthier and more real than what is in the blue box on the shelves. In the words of a wise old friend: “you worry about what’s on your plate and I’ll worry about mine.” 😉

OMG Congrats on the big adventure! Your pix made my heart cry for home*💔
Great contribution to a good cause. Bless your heart in the best way! 💖💞💖💞💖
Thank you so much! 🧡🧡 It was an amazing experience!
GREAT video Wes....Great cause for awareness and help....All Day I Dream About Food has a really good Pop Tart recipe she came out with not too long ago I haven't tried it yet but seems simple and cant wait to try it and the ones featured on this segment ....God Bless you and all you do....Julianna NC
These look amazing! I loved pop tarts, would usually buy the un-iced strawberry, those were my favorite!! Thanks for sharing!
Looks delicious! I'll never make them but you are certainly entertaining to watch.
Cj's keto kitchen channel has a really yummy jam recipe. She also has a bunch of other delicious recipes!
The world is a better place with you in it.
(If you detect OCD, you would be correct. Don’t you feel sorry for my Mother, RIP, who dealt with 18 years of the pickiest, most obsessive eater ever?? 🤎😂😂
It may be genetically passed on because God blessed me with an OCD picky eater of my own. I learned scientifically that a little boy actually can survive to become a star athlete in high school living solely on cheese pizza, chicken nuggets, strawberry yogurt, and water!). 💥
I’ve never had a PopTart, these look good.
I really wish you would have tried Victoria’s keto Kitchens pastry dough to make these. I cant do coconut flour and both the recipes have coconut flour.
Yes!!
Those are beautiful!
🧡🧡
Holy cow those look good! I saw the Keto Twins make a Pop Tart using fat dough.
Thank you
Hey Wes… can you do a keto gnocchi battle? Thanks for all you do
Congratulations on all your accomplishments 🎉
Oh no you didn’t!😅😂😊❤ Not while I’m sitting here fiending for some sweets 🍭. Aaaaaaaaagh! 😅😅😅😢
Oh no! That would be the beginning of the end for me 🫤
I gotta try these
Make regular pop tart recipe, use victoria's new pastry recipe and a keto blueberry filing. Thinking that's what I'm going to do!
My thoughts as well but with ChocZero raspberry jam as filling.
Thanks for this test.
Those look so good. TYFS
As mentioned by another commenter, please try Keto Upgrade's version for those of us who cannot do nuts.
I'm normally not a big fan of pop tarts, I may actually give theses a go though.
Lookin good my dude!
I thought for sure one of the recipes would be from: All day I dream about food.. She has a pop tart recipe too.. I haven't tried it though. All her recipes look delicious! Correction! She has Pop Tart bars.. they look fantab though!
What about using a fathead dough?
Wow! You should be very proud of yourselves all of you... Our job here is to love everybody❤❤❤
YUM!!!! POPTARTS!!!
i would be interested in a COST breakdown of each recipe , then the cost per serving.
Did I miss the glaaaaaaze?!
I know! I was looking forward to the glaze recipe for the fruit pop tart. 🤷♀️
Yeah! 500 miles of bike ridin a day ain't no excuse for slippppin on the glaaaaaaze production!
It’s in the linked recipe. Just the confectioners sweetener and 1 tablespoon of heavy cream. Super duper easy! Check the links for the complete original recipe. :-)
1/2 cup powdered sweetener. 1 tablespoon of heavy cream!
Ok! ..but that's not quite as fun. I'll letcha sliiiide this time. Haha Thanks!
Dip your fork in flour, oat fiber comes to mind
Ahhh snap!!!
🙂
Congrats on the aids ride! I contribute every year and was glad that I got to contribute for your efforts this year! Thank you and all that you do!
@@HighfalutinLowCarb I used to say that being a teen in the 80's, HIV scared the pants ON us!
Dip your fork in water to keep it from sticking to the dough.
Almond flour is very high in oxcalates why u use it?
Not everyone is sensitive to oxalates. And no studies have shown them to be a problem for people with normal digestion. They’ve just recently become the “boogeyman of the day.” (Our gut microbiome has a bacteria called *oxalobactor formigenes* that specifically digests oxalates.) So, I don’t generally avoid almond flour. If you are following a low-oxalate diet for health reasons, you may want to look for a channel that specializes in that, rather than expecting a low carb channel to focus on low-oxalate foods.
Best of luck! :-)
Can you eat these when your trying to lose weight and not sustain it yet.
Chia seeds taste like fish to me.
I say that about flax seeds! Tastes like fish oil!
💜💜💜💜
OMG Wesley! Pop Tarts? Really? The p*rn of breakfast foods? Okay, I may have had one in my entire 76 years on this planet. I'm trying to open my mind. It just seems wrong but perhaps I'll give it a chance 🙂
These look great, but they would kill me. Too many carbs and calories. ☹️
❤️❤️
FLOUR YOUR FORK.
Thanks for the tip! Should have done that instead of trying the oil. (Others have mentioned cold water on the fork as well.) Thankfully, chilling the dough again helped save my mess! Haha!
That’s insanity. 2 normal pop tarts are 400 calories. For one of these is over 500?? Lmao I’ll pass.
supposedly if we are on real keto these treats aren't allowed this is what dr kelly said
there as many diff ways people do keto as there are people doing it. honestly if you cant eat it, then dont. lots of people eat a lot of things that many cant... some have health reasons some dont. also: if you follow one person and just do what youre told without thinking and evaluating for your needs and situation, isnt that just being a follower? i mean..if that guy told you to not watch videos like this...would you still? at least learn to let other people do things differently than YOUR "guru" says...some of us follow others who say differently..and some dont follow any one particular person.
Hi Wesley,
I love watching Your videos. I am excited about this recipe. I use to love Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing. Anyway, I sq
I became a Patreon Member to Your channel. I love how You try new recipes. Serious Keto has a recipe for a Ranch Dressing. Anyway, I hope that Everything is going well for You. Thank You for sharing Your talents with Us.
Bless You And Your Family. 😊👍🏼👋🏼
Please - let go of the taste addictions. People need to enjoy real food, real recipes. Enough with the subs. Sorry.
I'm in love with the faces you make 😂❤
