Ever since Hillenburg passed, SpongeBob has felt very corporate, and it’s really sad to see that as someone who grew up with the show. It’s technically always been that way due to the marketing ability of the character but it still felt like the show had its own soul. Now we have episodes that are just all basic wacky random humor instead of the clever dialogue based jokes mixed with childish charm that seasons 1-5 did (and yes, I like seasons 4-5). SpongeBob got as popular as he did simply because of charm though, and when you take that charm away, the show is nothing. This is what’s happened.
Spongebob was a subversive show critical of authority and inequality. One of the main characters of the show is a greedy capitalist exploiting the people working under them with no remorse. Like, he literally sells his employees sould for 38 cents, that's as subversive as is gets for a children's cartoon. Nowadays though? There's nothing left of that.
Spongebob lost everything that made him great in recent seasons. The worst loss was Spongebob's personality. Back then he was a kind hearted guy who looked at the positives in everything and tries to help anyone he can, but he had his limits like in Stuck in the Wringer and Can You Spare a Dime. Now Spongebob is just your friendly unlovable idiot who seemed to have lost most of his brain functionality over the years
I actually like the premise and the idea of Spongebob babysitting three younger, more naive characters. But that would require the season 1-3 Spongebob and the nieces to not be awful, brutal and mean. I feel like a lot of ideas, not all, they have for newer episodes are quite good. But they require the amount of talent they had showcased during the pre-movie seasons, which means that most of the episodes are simply either boring, cruel and/or painfully unfunny. TL:DR: I like some ideas of modern Spongebob, but the execution is so horrible that it ruins it for me completely.
Agreed, an episode of Spongebob babysitting Sandy's nieces probably would've been fun if they weren't made out to be absolutely horrible people with no likable traits
As annoying as it is I did enjoy Patrick not willing to put up with the nieces like everyone else and actually embarrassing them. Modern SpongeBob would usually resort to having Squidward be the one to get annoyed, act like he is the bad guy for being annoyed and therefore torture him even further.
That was probably my favorite part as well. I just found it frustrating how the next scene after that is them running crying to Sandy about how mean everyone was to them. But yeah it was a different take on the usual *character not putting up with other character’s antics*.
@@awespongebob I found it satisfying because they gave up and left town. Though that was probably because the episode was over. I did feel terrible for their mom when they came back, seeing her lose her one relaxing moment in years was really depressing.
Late comment but my least favorite SpongeBob episode is A Pal for Gary. SpongeBob is absolutely atrocious and annoyingly and terribly oblivious in this episode, Puffy Fluffy is a disgusting little devil of a thing that that is literally torturing Gary for no reason for so long, the Gary torture itself is just disgusting, and the ending is just plain stupid.
Yeah I think that is the worst episode from the first 9 seasons and the reason I can tolerate Pet Sitter Pat and I Was A Teenage Gary. The Gary torture in that episode just goes way too far and Spongebob is at his most unlikeable.
I've owned several pets before, and I like this episode. It's a cautionary tale. Some pets just don't get along with each other, like hamsters and mice. If you cage them together, no matter how innocent or cute your hamster looks, it will brutally hurt or even kill the mouse. It's an animal instinct thing. Worst thing is, this happens often. This is parodied in the show. A dad buys pets for his son at the beginning of the episode for example, not because of the responsibility of watching your pets grow and all that complicated stuff, but because he thinks those pets are toys. This is parodied with Spongebob himself, too. Some pets are completely fine alone. But owners may subject human emotions in them, buying them a new "friend" because they think they're lonely. It's one of my favorite eps because it teaches an important lesson. Please do your research before buying a pet.
2:28 OMG I’m so glad someone finally pointed this out. SpongeBob in Randomland is literally a lazier written episode of Squidward in Clarinetland. 1:58 The only family characters that actually do reappear in the show are SpongeBob‘s parents, SpongeBob‘s grandmother, Squidward’s mother and Mr. crabs mother
There are so many tropes in cartoons (and live action shows) that I can't stand. One of the worst ones is having the main character "babysit" someone or something and it turns out the kid (or something else like a pet) is a menace, but in the end, the kid or the pet does not get punished for their actions. The main character gets tortured for an episode for nothing. This happened a lot in Drake and Josh and iCarly, too, which really pissed me off because it seems like producers think torture comedy is funny if done incorrectly, but in reality, it's really annoying, and it makes us feel bad for the character when they clearly did not deserve any of the shit the "babysat" person or thing does.
Reminds me of the Tom and Jerry bit, where the baby keeps crawling everywhere while the actual sitter is chatting on the phone(leaving Tom and Jerry to worry about the baby) Only time the sitter does something is when she spots Tom as he's putting the baby back in the crib, mistakes Tom for pestering the baby, so she whacks him with a slipper
To be fair, modern Spongebob does deserve this torture for all he does nowadays with Squidward. At least Squidward had a break in this episode, even though they did mock his looks and mustard'd his face, it ended there and then and he wasn't hurt. Still a very horrible and uncreative episode though.
Specially when the ones who left the baby or pet with them could perfectly have chosen someone else, who might have been more prepared/qualified. Looking at you, _A Flurry of Emotions_ from MLP:FIM.

THANK YOU. I can't believe Modern Spongebob fans will actually try to make excuses for the current state the franchise is in. It's the worst it'd ever been and destroyed nearly everything that made it what it was.
Facts. At least some people out there understand why SpongeBob was so great before season 9b. I feel like it’s just because Stephen came back and all of a sudden people think it’s old SpongeBob again. The only thing old about modern SpongeBob is how much they reference old SpongeBob. It just gets annoying how much they try to shove it in your face. All it does is make me want to watch classic SpongeBob instead of this garbage. Season 6-8 weren’t too bad in my opinion, and a lot of the episodes weren’t as good as seasons 1-3 and yeah there was a lot of gross out but there was gross out in classic SpongeBob and people never seem to point that out. Even in modern SpongeBob. I absolutely hate season 9b-12 and it doesn’t deserve the praise it gets.
@@funnyword8084 Hillenburg's return had to be what gave this idea that the show regained its quality, and sadly it feels like the creators saw how gullible fans are to anything that has Stephen's name on it that they slapped it on Kamp Koral's creator credit when he didn't conceive that spin-off. I can't watch anything past season 11 half because it's a brainless mess and because that was when the continuity was split off thanks to this new writing staff. I'm a Spongebob fan writer/roleplayer, so I'm one of the two people that actually give a crap about Spongebob's characterization and the lore. I did notice at points, though, that it looks as if they're covering up the errors Kamp Koral introduced. Such as I believe Pearl was initially Squidina's age in the Patrick Show, but I saw a clip of her recently and it seems she was bumped to 12-13? I don't know if Nick is distancing Kamp Koral's continuity at all, but that'd be the only thing that would get me to go back to regularly watching the show. It's refreshing to see someone else who agrees reboot SBSP is a cheap, manipulating facade. I appreciate seasons 4-8. The worldbuilding and character development in those episodes alone (flaws and all) put them above this crapshit spin-off/multiverse period we're in. Effort was put into them despite coming off very low-budget at times.
Season 12 has, without a doubt, the most split reception amongst the fans of the series. There are a lot of people who absolutely adore this season and consider it one of the best the show has to offer, while there’s a bunch of people who feel the complete opposite way and hate it completely, and think this is the worst season of the show. You rarely ever see someone in the middle with this one.
I agree that most people go to the extreme with this one and I kind of see why. I think it all comes down to season 11. The people that liked season 11 will most likely have love for season 12 while for the people who dislike season 11, season 12 will just feel like an extension of a bad thing and therefore will consider it one of the worse seasons. Season 11 and 12 are VERY similar so it makes sense.
This episode couldve easily been better storywise if they had Sandy warn about her nieces before everything went down and had SpongeBob reply very full of himself and confident he can handle three little kids. Then all the chaos can ensue and as sponge is struggling eventually he would snap and put every one in line and then he could be the one person in the end who was able to babysit these kids. I feel that actually makes SpongeBob useful in the episdoe and Sandy not so willing to let Spongebob be tortured just for the sake of "Spongebob tv torture is funny now days"
I hate the annoying rhyme thing. They did the same thing with the Dirty Bubble which doesn't make sense because the Dirty Bubble didn't rhyme in any previous episodes.
I actually thought the joke when spongebob said he knows how to baby seat and then we see him holding Patrick I actually thought that was funny it just shows you that these writers are capable of giving us good jokes but in these most episodes they are just not giving us good jokes
You deserve a lot more attention than you get man. I appreciate the simple, chill approach you have to your videos. No need for anything extra or flashy. It creates a more personal atmosphere, like I'm listening to a friend talk about their interests
problem with modern spongebob is that theres no buildup. This episode is a good example. They could make spongebob and the nieces made up or something in the end. ofc the entire shit need to be change.
Ok I got to say, “SHOW ME! SHOW ME FUNNY!” had me dead, that’s a classic thing Patrick would say and do. That feels like it could be a joke in early SpongeBob.
I never seen that Family Guy episode except the one clip you mentioned. What bothered me about that is Brian doesn't appear before or after that scene and doesn't face any sort of punishment for that or even gets mentioned. It's as if the baby squirrel was suppose to be killed in a different way but the writers couldn't come up with anything better than Brian mauling it.
You got a point there, the worst part is that this is what I have seen people praise the episode for like “Oh yeah, Brian hates squirrels, that was smart of the writers.” When in reality any foreshadowing of him would at least had made the scene a bit less of a kick in the face.
This episode was a tremendous mess in every way, shape and form. There's nothing funny about any episode where characters are left to look after bratty kids and subsequently get tortured, unless they are able to get the upper hand in the end. This may seem like a minor nitpick, but, as per the moments at 0:49 and 2:50, SpongeBob seems to have become completely rock stupid at certain points in this episode, barely able to figure out basic things, which, as was noted, makes little sense because he was always at least more sensible than Patrick. What likewise was the point of them making Squidward look hideously ugly and dirty in this episode? Between this and the infamous moment from WhoBob WhatPants? you truly must wonder what the writers were thinking. On a more positive note, Patrick was the only highlight of this episode; the moment with SpongeBob burping him like a baby and the "SHOW ME FUNNY!" moment were truly priceless.
I really didn't get the episode and really didn't like these three since they are just absolutely horrible to everyone around them and have the nerve to run away crying when they can't push someone around Pardon my french but it's really no wonder their mother wanted to get rid of them by dumping them on Sandy, who herself spent the rest of the episode trying to send them back
Haven't watched a new spongebob episode since 2013 when i was still in the target age for spongebob, just stuck with the original 3 that everyone loves since then lol. But I remember my least favorite even as a kid was the episode where plankton tries killing himself, it was so unnecessary and sad. I also got so frustrated at that good neighbors episode. The episodes you show on your channel are just odd, it doesn't even look like spongebob anymore.
I remember this episode came out and all the moms wouldn’t stfu saying sandy was a mom now and she was a terrible mom and stuff. One google search to say they were her nieces. It turned me off from ever seeing this episode lmfao
I will admit, some of the clips from the episode you've shown in this video made me laugh or at least smile, mostly due to the faces the three kids make (like 3:35, 3:45 or 5:38; plus I like how Sandy looks in the opening scene). I also liked the "condiment costumes" from 4:46, but that's because I didn't know Spongebob has already done better imitations in earlier episodes. The acutal gags and slapstick didn't amuse me however, so I doubt I would've liked the episode had I actually watched it. Call me childish for this. You'd probably be right. I don't care. In fact, I assume you don't care either, since you'd probably be glad that I could enjoy this mess more than you did. Then again, I didn't _actually_ watch the episode, so maybe it doesn't count? Also worth noting that I _did_ watch early Spongebog episodes on TV and enjoyed them.
Do you know where I can find a watch guide for post movie Spongebob? I haven’t seen a whole lot of season 4-6 Spongebob and I know almost nothing beyond those seasons other than movie 2 and the musical.
also do you said 4 months ago that Modern Spongebob is the worst thing ever and now do you upload ''Modern Spongebob is good again'' Fact: Actually, I really like Modern Spongebob.
I find all those episodes more watchable than Sandy’s Nutty Nieces, The Splinter is just a gross out episode, One Coarse Meal is mean to Plankton but has some interesting elements at least and Are You Happy Now isn’t even that bad, I think Spongebob trying to help Squidward be happy in the episode to be kinda endearing.
It actually makes sense that Spongebob didn't know what tool to give, he's a sponge after all And let's be honest, tools may be unknown to marine animals (If we ignore all logic)
Awesome video my personal opinion not the worst episode of SpongeBob I’ve seen I actually kinda liked it in a weird way I thought Nickelodeon wanted to do a SpongeBob and Sandy children episode but didn’t want to break Stephen Hillenburg‘s SpongeBob and Sandy can’t be shown dating rule I’m a bit jealous you were able to pick AWE I originally chose that name, but due to the existence of AWE games I wasn’t able to they were a development company for SpongeBob games
I always thought jokes delivered with a straight face and tone like that were somehow funnier, but I have a dad who always criticized such humor as being dry for that reason. Never really understood how it wasn’t funny and he never understood why I found it funny.
Right now I’m mostly working on spongebob content but I might branch out to other cartoons soon. For me The Loud House never really interested me as it’s not my type of show but who knows.
3:37 This shot here shows how cheesy and lame Modern SpongeBob is. The way the nieces faces are fused together lmao. Just shows how they now only care about cheesy facial expressions for little kids. Unlike the old seasons where the wacky facial expressions would help compliment or enhance the jokes. They were a vehicle for emotion and part of the gags. Now it's just about the wacky faces.

It’s the fact they have a new producer.
I was waiting for their helmets to break.
2:10 I remember I saw a comics with 3 Spongebob’s nephews back in the 2009. But it was only a comics
Let me guess, the reason why you hated that Family Guy episode is what Brian did to that baby squirrel?
I think the little texas accents are cute
patrick is the god of chads
I will say that is a clever name. Rosy Cheeks? Of course _I_ would say that. XD
Facts, bro this episode sucks. Glad to see people calling out season 12;)
Nice to see you here, enjoyed your videos on season 12 a lot bro
@@awespongebob Thanks, man!
I really didn't get the episode and really didn't like these three since they are just absolutely horrible to everyone around them and have the nerve to run away crying when they can't push someone around
Pardon my french but it's really no wonder their mother wanted to get rid of them by dumping them on Sandy, who herself spent the rest of the episode trying to send them back
SpongeBob seems more childish than Sandy’s nieces.
"Worst episode of any show"💀
Good video
Haven't watched a new spongebob episode since 2013 when i was still in the target age for spongebob, just stuck with the original 3 that everyone loves since then lol. But I remember my least favorite even as a kid was the episode where plankton tries killing himself, it was so unnecessary and sad. I also got so frustrated at that good neighbors episode. The episodes you show on your channel are just odd, it doesn't even look like spongebob anymore.
This is my least favorite season 12 SpongeBob episode after The Nitwiting and The Ballad of Filthy muck.
Wish the show but Viacom/Nickelodeon sees Money
i love modern spongebob,
Do you know where I can find a watch guide for post movie Spongebob? I haven’t seen a whole lot of season 4-6 Spongebob and I know almost nothing beyond those seasons other than movie 2 and the musical.
I usually just use IMDb to keep track, they have pretty short descriptions of episodes though
Sandy’s Nutty Nieces is pretty low mid for me
also do you said 4 months ago that Modern Spongebob is the worst thing ever and now do you upload ''Modern Spongebob is good again''
Fact: Actually, I really like Modern Spongebob.
This episode isnt even worse than The Splinter let alone One Coarse Meal or Are You Happy Now
I find all those episodes more watchable than Sandy’s Nutty Nieces, The Splinter is just a gross out episode, One Coarse Meal is mean to Plankton but has some interesting elements at least and Are You Happy Now isn’t even that bad, I think Spongebob trying to help Squidward be happy in the episode to be kinda endearing.
The worst for me for various reasons is A Pal For Gary
@Thomas Fan140 For me A Pal For Gary is easily the worst episode of at least the first 9 seasons
@@awespongebob i don t know what episode i don t like
I don't actually hate this episode I used to despise it but I don't really hate episodes this one comes close however
It actually makes sense that Spongebob didn't know what tool to give, he's a sponge after all
And let's be honest, tools may be unknown to marine animals (If we ignore all logic)
Nah you can’t lie, you’re a pescatarian
2:45 bruh, since when did spongebob add family guy cutaway jokes 💀
Awesome video my personal opinion not the worst episode of SpongeBob I’ve seen
I actually kinda liked it in a weird way I thought Nickelodeon wanted to do a SpongeBob and Sandy children episode but didn’t want to break Stephen Hillenburg‘s SpongeBob and Sandy can’t be shown dating rule
I’m a bit jealous you were able to pick AWE
I originally chose that name, but due to the existence of AWE games I wasn’t able to they were a development company for SpongeBob games
I liked Feral Friends, why you don't
Season 12 it’s not garbage it’s actually improving
I like a ton of season 12 episodes actually season 13 is looking amazing
Nah. Watched it and there's way worse like A Pal for Gary, Choir Boys, That Sinking Feeling or Pet Sitter Pat.
You know you sound like my older brother where you from?
2:17 you just said the f word
Yea i realy hated that episode
This is irrelevant but I like your accent
Narrator should s t f up. I wanted to actually watch this whole episode without it getting talked over
0:48 e
I think your video are pretty good
Dude there's far worse episodes, this one wasn’t that bad you're overreacting.
I agree, even if this episode is still awful
Dude there's far worse videos, this one wasnt that bad you're overreacting
@@RordanGamsay He didn't say the video was bad tho?
@@Daniel_d573fjdi didn't say his comment was that bad 👺
@@RordanGamsay This Channel is overdramatic most of the time
I hate this episode!
Kala spongebob olin e mije
4:53 And... You skipped one of the best jokes of the episode.
I'm done watching these videos criticizing new episodes.
You hate this
And i dont
Thats is
"...and I'm a vegetarian"😂😂😂 Nobody talking about the dry delivery of his dark jokes? Guess these Americans just don't get our European humour😂
I always thought jokes delivered with a straight face and tone like that were somehow funnier, but I have a dad who always criticized such humor as being dry for that reason. Never really understood how it wasn’t funny and he never understood why I found it funny.
Also didn’t know that you were vegetarian Awe. Kinda surprising.
I’m glad I don’t give off the usual vegan aura I guess haha. I eat fish but for personal reasons I don’t eat any other animal or meat.
@@awespongebob cool. Well excited for your next video. You planning on making a video about the loud house.
Right now I’m mostly working on spongebob content but I might branch out to other cartoons soon. For me The Loud House never really interested me as it’s not my type of show but who knows.
@@awespongebob That’s ok. Tlh was good imo but it became horrible. Anyway, later man.
Later man i meant not mam.
Hey
WHAT, this is oficially ur worst video ever, no offense but how this can be worst than Ink Lemonade
Ink lemonade is bad, but not as bad as this episode and some other ones
3:37 This shot here shows how cheesy and lame Modern SpongeBob is. The way the nieces faces are fused together lmao. Just shows how they now only care about cheesy facial expressions for little kids. Unlike the old seasons where the wacky facial expressions would help compliment or enhance the jokes. They were a vehicle for emotion and part of the gags. Now it's just about the wacky faces.
