Is insane, like, bro, how am I gonna 'know them for long enough' IF I CANT EVEN LISTEN TO THEM (BY YOUR LOGIC) BEACUSE "You're not old enough!!" And that's I don't really regularly interact with kpop group fandoms, besides Skz and Xdinary heros. Not saying that all kpop group dwellers are like this, but definitely watch out.
Kpop is a really funny genre to get elitist about. Like it's just pop. It's pop in a language you don't understand. Sometimes they rap badly in english. All these groups are built and owned by profoundly evil corporations and their songs are written by at most 3 guys. The hipster mentality is grating, but usually it's directed at something that's actually obscure or against the mainstream.
Woah I didn't know this. I used to be a 2nd gen kpop fan and there's no such gatekeeping before. You have a slight interest in kpop? Good, you're our buddy now. Here's some groups you might be interested in. That's when kpop isn't really mainstream worldwide yet. I mean, yeah lots of people know it but not like bts or blackpink level of mainstream. It's ridiculous to gatekeep something's mainstream. I could understand gatekeeping if it's a niche music genre.
Honestly, yeah. I do lived that "enjoy whatever you want" kinda mentality because if I open to listen something that was intrigued, I might leave the expectation for what am I about to listen. I'm more of a Rock kinda of guy but I do step in to Hop-Hop, IDMs, and Electronic a bit and it was fun.
I hate that my family laughs at me because i like music from Japan, and never tried to listen so now i just tell my music taste online or with friends. I hate this type of people, like, it's just a band that sings a language that you don't know
I remember in the comments section in one of your videos someone said they'd recently started listening to music (i assume they didn't listen to music before) through artists like taylor swift, olivia rodrigo, melanie martinez and also kpop. First reply called their music taste bad. It's such a puny thing to get mad at people for. My favourite artist(s) are BTS, and people make fun of me for it a lot. I have literally written thousand word essays on their lyrics and the evolution of each member's songwriting style (yes, they write their own lyrics 90% of the time) bc I find them so moving but they all assume that I'm only into them cause they're hot. Their work has been my main source of joy for the past year, I don't see what's wrong with that.
Omg I just got into BTS not too long ago, a rap fan reactor (Anthony Ray) got me into them lol. It was his Outro Tear reaction that got me hooked. It's a shame so many people will just make judgements and miss out on great songs and artistry.
My first thought whenever someone said that they like something really popular is "basic" but it's not like being basic is a bad thing. I mean, I like basic stuff like MCR, One Ok Rock, Metallica and Avril Lavigne. But I do listen to some less known artists (mostly korean artists because I was a huge 2nd gen kpop fan). It's not like I love their entire discography but I have my go to songs. Just to name a few, Aziatix, Kris Leone, NELL, Broken Valentine, Epik High (this one is probably the most popular out of all)
This video is hillariously accurate and I can laugh at myself because some of the things apply to me but I think the video itself proves its own point because I recgonized the song from the Donkey Kong Country Map screen in it lmao

Thanks for reminding me of this type of cunts I used to deal with on instagram lol. This also reminded me of when I was in class, and I was showing one of the guys videos of a concert I’d been to recently. I saw Poppy and I had a really great time and I wanted to share it. He didn’t know who she was, he asked if that was Weezer, cuz Weezer has that song “I just threw out the love of my dreams” featuring a female singer. I said no and showed her Spotify page. Later that day I had a moment of realisation, I reacted so calmly to that moment, I didn’t go BRUH HOW TF DO YOU NOT KNOW HER BABABA, I probably would’ve back in my Hip Hop Instagram days. I used to ask these questions online when I was new to music, and people were so rude, and I didn’t wanna turn out like them. I felt good, a sense of maturity idk lol.
I've found that the issue is actually much worse in real life, as opposed to what the video says. Both there and in the internet though people will clown on your music taste. I've always had to not tell about my music tastes because pretty much all the time I do it turns out awful. It feels like everyone listens to the same few artists, just like the video said. Some examples I've seen are Radiohead, 10000 Gecks (or something like that), MF Doom, Death Grips, but after listening, they're just really not something I'd listen to. I just like niche artists and niche games in general, some of my favourite artists are popular within small communities, specifically artists like Myukke, Frums and Ebimayo who are popular within rhythm game communities, but outside, no one knows them, and since they've never heard of the kind of music these artists make, they tend to hate on it. And that's sad, I just want to enjoy the stupid music, I don't like "real" music, simply forced not to share music opinions
in august 2021, i started my first ever music playlist. by may 2023, that same playlist only had 180 songs. at that time, i would’ve said my favorite artist was the beatles, but only because i had like 5 of their songs in the playlist. during may of 2023, i converted my playlist from youtube to spotify and started using spotify for my music listening. shortly after that, i listened to a full album for the first time ever. never in my life had i willingly listened through the entirety of an album until that moment. it was Let It Be. so fast forward 7 months, it had gone from a single youtube playlist with 180 songs to a spotify wrapped with 890 songs total. as of now, ive added around 40 albums to my spotify since my first album in may. i have to thank my sudden increased interest in expanding my music to radiohead. i got hooked on them in june, and they’re the only artist that i’ve listened to the entirety of their studio albums (except for nirvana but they only have 3) im still trying to expand my music taste. i’ve never listened to the lonely hearts club, i’ve never listened to MBDTF, ive barely listened to the wall. i only have 5 rap albums in my spotify. i got a long way to go.
Recommendation for rap album: D-Day by Agust D. He's a big Korean rapper, also a really good producer and lyricist. My favs on the album are Snooze, Polar Night, Huh, and Haegeum (title track which he wrote, composed & produced by himself).
Great video, I saw this in my recommended. I believe instead of people being elitist on the artist they listen to, they should recommend the artist especially if the artist is niche. Gate keeping is quite a harmful thing.
I hate when people say "you have bad/good music taste" like to each their own, music is music, and it's all opinion based anyways so there's no "good' or "bad"
only small bites: that's how i consume music. like i'll listen to 1 album by an artist and then move on and come back in like a month and listen to another record
Haha, yeah. Paul Malburet (born April 10, 1985) also known professionally as Incredible Polo and sometimes just Polo is a French self-taught musician, songwriter and the face and voice of Incredibox. The genres of music he makes are alternative, electro, progressive, and pop. He is also one of the three members of So Far So Good. In 2013, he silently released his first Album "Abissama", with little acclaim. In 2016, Paul released "Ma Hill", his more known album featuring the song "The Ship"
I see this not only online but in real life too. Frequently I'll bring up an album or a band that I like and immediately I'll get scoffed at or made fun of for liking it. Like, The Beatles might be super basic to be into but why's everyone gotta be so negative about it? I also really hate when people say you're not a real music fan if you're not into super obscure underground artists who have like 5 fans total. To me it doesn't matter how popular an artist is, if I like the music then I'll listen to it and more often than not try to share it. Rant aside, I enjoyed this video and I'm glad there are people in the world who are more open-minded to others' music taste
I have a playlist of like 7k+ songs that me and most of my friends keep adding to so we can share and experience new music without the hassle of each of us trying to find music alone
My man uses Animal Crossing GC, Michael Jackson, DKC and Tekken 4 music... and has to hear things like "your music taste sucks?" Bro, your music taste in this video alone is DOPE :D
It’s amazing how many people online don’t understand opinions I don’t know how many times I praised an album someone comes along and shits all over the album and tells me how awful it is which I’ll usually reply with something along the lines of well I enjoy it no amount of convincing and criticism will change my mind I will continue to listen to it and enjoy it and a third person shows up and goes wdym bro that’s so ass☠️ like even when you lay out what an opinion is they still act like they are gonna convince you that you actually dislike blank record or have this weird ego over hating stuff good for you now you have less stuff in the world to enjoy where’s the glory in being a hater I don’t get it
This vid resonate with me so much, especially when I started listening and getting into Green Day and other punk artists recently, and I can't BREATHE on Twitter without some "die hard fan who defended father of all motherfuckers to death and went to all the live shows including the ones where Billie Joe start shouting at the fans" telling me I'm not a real fan lol edit: "bUt gReEn dAy iS nOt pUnk " Shut the fuck up 😍😍
I normally don't listen to artists, with vert few exceptions. I just think it's cool to think to myself "what would I like to listen to right now?" and search that on youtube or spotify to see if I discover a cool music. I don't really can't talk about any popular music artist cuz I don't listen to them, I might have listened to one, two maybe even three of their music, but it was for the music and not the artist. With the few exceptions of Yun Li/Yung lixo and Ace of Hearts I just listen to random music that I find and think is good :)
I don’t get gatekeeping obscure musicians because when I show someone something and they have never heard about it I get embarrassed because it’s probably not as good as I think it is

Honestly don't care about others opinions, been listening to Kanye and Tyler for years and I'm content with listening to all their songs for 10/15 more years
Tyler's a real artistic music genius & visionary sort of like the David Bowie of Hiphop. He's music is complete with humor, relatability + introspective lyrics and on top of that a good sound design/production so what's not to like about his music? I guess those are the perks of being both a skilled producer and songwriter
Had this happen when i didnt know what death grips is. They acted like i was crazy and lacked culture or something. And like i tried listening to it after. I dont really get it but thats cool i'll just listen to the stuff i like
They are experimental music, so it's understandable why it wouldn't be for you. I'd say look at other subgenres of the main genre you enjoy. It's how I found out about Power Noise for example (it's practically rhythmic noise).
ngl i wish i could see your playlists on spotify (if you have some) and i have a vivid memory that you said in a video that you use spotify but i cant find it, anyways, nice video!!!!
3:19 OMG i heard a friend from a while ago told me about their liked songs and it was like 13000 songs 😱. Props tbf, but like yea it is impossible to listen to it all. Also to that person idk how you kept track of all that music, but more power to you 🙏
Took me years to realise there are 5k+ genres seriously thought it was rock pop metal and anime or something and everything else was weird or crappy, now i listen to folk and whimsical songs i used to hate on and dont find half the popular stuff interesting anymore. I feel like when you are exposed to more types of music you kinda widen your taste and discover your own vibe instead of being stuck to the cycle of "popular" stuff
Ive only listened to obscure genres etc my whole life and i used to attach my ego to my music taste a few years ago. It was easy to imagine everyone else as a "normie" but it took me a while to realize people like what they like. What a simple realization that took entirely too long...
How people can't comorehend that I manage to like both Coldplay and Radiohead is actually pretty weird man, like they always acting like I gotta pick one (aka radiohead) and that I can't possibly be a fan of one and the other.
I'm into the Vocaloid community/just generally vocal synthesizers as a subculture, and I've seen a really weird sort of pseudo-elitism within people in the community regarding people ragging on others for having taste that's TOO niche? Sorta like how people do IRL except instead of pissing on people for nyot exclusively listening to Harry Styles, Taylor Swift and Drake it's pissing on people for nyot exclusively listening to Circus-P, Giga and Maretu. I really don't get it. Istg I'm like 99% sure the only reason it happens is because of kids who only found out about vocal synth through Project Sekai who used to shit on people who don't exclusively listen to Top 40 and decided to move to shitting on people who listen to too much outside of the top 15 producers.

Is insane, like, bro, how am I gonna 'know them for long enough' IF I CANT EVEN LISTEN TO THEM (BY YOUR LOGIC) BEACUSE "You're not old enough!!"
And that's I don't really regularly interact with kpop group fandoms, besides Skz and Xdinary heros.
"people suck" too fucking real

PREACH KING, PREACH!! On a real though I’m glad you’ve made this video, being a weezer fan is hard man..
Ok actually if you’re a weezer fan you deserve ridicule
Yeah must be hard being a bundle of sticks.
i love weezer
Honestly, yeah. I do lived that "enjoy whatever you want" kinda mentality because if I open to listen something that was intrigued, I might leave the expectation for what am I about to listen. I'm more of a Rock kinda of guy but I do step in to Hop-Hop, IDMs, and Electronic a bit and it was fun.
I hate that my family laughs at me because i like music from Japan, and never tried to listen so now i just tell my music taste online or with friends.
I hate this type of people, like, it's just a band that sings a language that you don't know
That's practically what KPop is.. lol. Well, attached least to me..
I understand you tried showing my mom a spanish song that I was deeply attached too and she laughed it off
I remember in the comments section in one of your videos someone said they'd recently started listening to music (i assume they didn't listen to music before) through artists like taylor swift, olivia rodrigo, melanie martinez and also kpop.
I’m gonna help you with patreon because honestly you have a clear and fresh view of the music stuff. Tbh it’s a lot to digest sometimes and even I don’t get truly the hype that some artists get on RYM or AOTY
So seeing like a impartial view of music it’s really nice

I KNOW ITS BEEN A YEAR BUT YOU'RE NOT ONLY MY FRIEND
0:34 Hey! That album is a Masterpiece!
0:24 happened to me 2 months ago because i changed from eminem and rap to weezer and alt rock
in august 2021, i started my first ever music playlist. by may 2023, that same playlist only had 180 songs. at that time, i would’ve said my favorite artist was the beatles, but only because i had like 5 of their songs in the playlist.
during may of 2023, i converted my playlist from youtube to spotify and started using spotify for my music listening. shortly after that, i listened to a full album for the first time ever. never in my life had i willingly listened through the entirety of an album until that moment. it was Let It Be. so fast forward 7 months, it had gone from a single youtube playlist with 180 songs to a spotify wrapped with 890 songs total. as of now, ive added around 40 albums to my spotify since my first album in may.
i have to thank my sudden increased interest in expanding my music to radiohead. i got hooked on them in june, and they’re the only artist that i’ve listened to the entirety of their studio albums (except for nirvana but they only have 3)
im still trying to expand my music taste. i’ve never listened to the lonely hearts club, i’ve never listened to MBDTF, ive barely listened to the wall. i only have 5 rap albums in my spotify. i got a long way to go.
Recommendation for rap album: D-Day by Agust D.
He's a big Korean rapper, also a really good producer and lyricist. My favs on the album are Snooze, Polar Night, Huh, and Haegeum (title track which he wrote, composed & produced by himself).
As a KISS, Pitbull and EDM enjoyer, I approuve this video. 👍
I approve this as I am a fan of Len Spencer and Byron G. Harlan.
I dont listen too much outside death metal and jazz
I would describe my music taste as my taste in music.
Daft Punk?
I used to be into future funk and no one knew the artists. Its more of an annoiance than a flex

Commenting to say I love your vids and the “tis the season” line made me crack up for some reason.
“did u know that tame impala is JUST ONE GUY??????” Is prolly the most common phrase in my vocabulary this point
Great video, I saw this in my recommended.
I believe instead of people being elitist on the artist they listen to, they should recommend the artist especially if the artist is niche. Gate keeping is quite a harmful thing.
you put 'another part of me' in 8/16 bit form (i dunno im not an expert) i love it
Dear fantano cultist....
I hate when people say "you have bad/good music taste" like to each their own, music is music, and it's all opinion based anyways so there's no "good' or "bad"
When an Onlysmallbites video doesn’t have a “package for uh, mister bites,” I literally cry. Jk this is a good video I love ur vids.
only small bites: that's how i consume music. like i'll listen to 1 album by an artist and then move on and come back in like a month and listen to another record
This shit crazy, who wants to keep the artists they listen to underground? I need everybody I interact with to listen to Jamiroquai and Igorrr

The super obscure underground artist part hit home, cuz I make music and I have some fans... but I just hope it doesn't turn into that bs.
YOUR SOOS IMPRESSION WAS AMAZING!
So you're telling me you *DON"T* listen to emotive 80s gabber rock breakbeat depth-math-core (with korean characteristics)? *Give you the look

( I swear I won’t judge )
"Your music taste is bad" is a sentence that only comes from people who dont even have a personal taste
It’s amazing how many people online don’t understand opinions I don’t know how many times I praised an album someone comes along and shits all over the album and tells me how awful it is which I’ll usually reply with something along the lines of well I enjoy it no amount of convincing and criticism will change my mind I will continue to listen to it and enjoy it and a third person shows up and goes wdym bro that’s so ass☠️ like even when you lay out what an opinion is they still act like they are gonna convince you that you actually dislike blank record or have this weird ego over hating stuff good for you now you have less stuff in the world to enjoy where’s the glory in being a hater I don’t get it
3:37 Didn't expect to see AJR get slightly involved in this video.
If you don’t listen to *insert underground artist from random unknown genre here* ,you don’t know music.
Somewhere out there in the vast sea of music is some unfindable artist that's never released anything who's probably the crown prince of hipsters
Underground music do be hitting different though.

I normally don't listen to artists, with vert few exceptions. I don't really can't talk about any popular music artist cuz I don't listen to them, I might have listened to one, two maybe even three of their music, but it was for the music and not the artist. They are experimental music, so it's understandable why it wouldn't be for you. I'd say look at other subgenres of the main genre you enjoy. It's how I found out about Power Noise for example (it's practically rhythmic noise).

Took me years to realise there are 5k+ genres seriously thought it was rock pop metal and anime or something and everything else was weird or crappy, now i listen to folk and whimsical songs i used to hate on and dont find half the popular stuff interesting anymore. I like both of them
I'm into the Vocaloid community/just generally vocal synthesizers as a subculture, and I've seen a really weird sort of pseudo-elitism within people in the community regarding people ragging on others for having taste that's TOO niche? Sorta like how people do IRL except instead of pissing on people for nyot exclusively listening to Harry Styles, Taylor Swift and Drake it's pissing on people for nyot exclusively listening to Circus-P, Giga and Maretu.
I really don't get it. Istg I'm like 99% sure the only reason it happens is because of kids who only found out about vocal synth through Project Sekai who used to shit on people who don't exclusively listen to Top 40 and decided to move to shitting on people who listen to too much outside of the top 15 producers.
