Well, presumably, most of it was supposedly consensual. People in Slayer and Society signed up for this. But of course, he wouldn't be the bad guy if he didn't also do it against their will.
As far as capitalism is concerned, nothing is against your will as long as you agreed to it for money. If you’re stuck in that mindset, any boss’s treatment of their employees is ethically unassailable. After all, the workers agreed to the boss’s terms of employment; if anything bad happens to them, it’s their fault for accepting a bad agreement. Capitalist ideology is a hell of a drug

Idk if the shot at 12:51 has been edited for this video or if that's how it was intended in the original film but I actually do kinda like how creative it is. I have to imagine the players are sens capped to prevent these cases OR each player must spend hours calibrating their slayers and possibly days of free run/gun training for the slayer to adapt to the "strings" and for the player to get a proper feel for any latency issues. though, I also have to imagine it would be fucking hilarious to see that in person lul like, would the head turn too fast for the body and eventually just spin off in a gory spiral? would the torso be the cutoff point? what happens to the human brain if its mixed up at a Mouse DPI of 4200 and in game sens of 200.00? LuL
Not to mention "fragging" was supposed to represent killing someone in a way that causes their body to fragment. But that definition has been muddied over time.
Goddamn, the plot of this movie sounds like one of the most unique and fun ideas I've seen in a long while. Goes to show it ain't the idea, but the execution.
Even then there’s some cool ass concepts here especially towards the end. That one scene with the villain was well done like the guy said. Plus the end where kable was able to win because his player got control of him again was pretty well done
I mean throughout my whole life I've seen 6-y-o's (or basically just children and nowhere near being 18, if even teens) playing GTA XD Supervised and unsupervised. So a family sat watching Slayers doesn't seem that unusual.

3:32 You gotta admit, this is pretty accurate to how people name themselves in video games all the time (at least in games without regulations on what you can name yourself).
Debatable, 2009 is so far back that competitive e-sports had a much smaller audience, console gaming wasn't dead yet and game journalism wasn't the butt of jokes... I guess what I'm saying is, there hadn't been a "rise" for there to be a "fall". You didn't have Joker memes, and "Redditors" were more often called shut-ins. By virtue of that, I would say the connotation was still negative. In fact "Gamers are ultra violent" is definitely a sentiment that goes back to the 90's, though it was often games that were portrayed as the villain rather than players.

Billionaire: Controls humans against their will and gets rich doing it
Activist group: "We don't like you because you might some day eventually control people against their will"
Sounds like politicians in DC.

This movie is from 2009. Back then the word "Gamer" didn't have the same meaning we have now, so I don't think it feels forced in the movie.
The entire review misses the point just like the reviewers
Debatable, 2009 is so far back that competitive e-sports had a much smaller audience, console gaming wasn't dead yet and game journalism wasn't the butt of jokes... I guess what I'm saying is, there hadn't been a "rise" for there to be a "fall". You didn't have Joker memes, and "Redditors" were more often called shut-ins. By virtue of that, I would say the connotation was still negative.
In fact "Gamers are ultra violent" is definitely a sentiment that goes back to the 90's, though it was often games that were portrayed as the villain rather than players.
Console gaming isn’t dead lol
