Bad lore is not uncommon. Many games have lore that is downright awful. But I can not think of a game that started off so good and then completely lost it's way to the tune of a triple A budget. When it comes to lore, @Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege is a very strange case. It's wonky, ineffective, and fails to reach it's audience. But before it's sharp decline, it had a promising beginning. In fact many still look back on it's old direction quite fondly. So what went wrong? This is how Siege's decision to abandon it's roots in favor of appealing to a non existent crowd caused it to write the most pathetic and forgettable lore in modern gaming. I'd be interested to know of a modern game that spent so much money on such a universally ignored universe. #rainbowsixsiege
Gaming

I always find it funny to imagine all the fans paid for tickets to watch a building, because there’s no indication they can see what’s going on inside the stadium building
This is hilarious
Best case scenario, you watch the game via the cameras inside the building. So you physically went to a stadium to watch the game on a screen.
@Noperare And said cameras get shot/deactivated all the time too
YO THIS BUILDING IS HELLA SICK BRO. WE SHOULD COME BACK NEXT YEAR!
Pretty sure it's implied that the body cams of the operators are being broadcasted...
this is essentially just like a high school drama anime but ubisoft did it so it's worse
Can't make something worse than the story in japanese cartoons.
@john-b2r9p i thought that… until ubisoft did it. Also tbh fmab was pretty good
@john-b2r9p you just watch the wrong anime respectfully
Underrated comment
It does feel extremely anime.
>this is why rainbow is formed
>this is what you all been trained for
>OLYMPIC DOORBREACHING
Major League Doorkicking
@bolbistroganofsky5946 literally what Streamer's think of swat teams dream after they got doorkicked
National Doorbreaching League
Go play ready or not
I really hate what modern shooters have turned into. Can I just have one semi-grounded FPS that doesn't have ridiculous Fortnite skins?
Best Part is that random chinese company who bought the rights to use Team Rainbow for a collab in their anime tower defense game (Arknights) took better care of the Lore of the individuals, their goals and ways than what modern R6 does with its cast.
Knew someone would bring up Arknights eventually
@swordmain1880 ofc
Small correction, Arknights is owned by a Chinese company (Hypergryph), not Japanese.
@erosthespy oh, you are right
thanks for the info
Lmao, team Rainbow with cat ears is still dealing with terrorism and protecting the innocents while these dumbasses are competing in a stupid Olympic with White masks presumably still around.
*R6 captures Deimos*
- So what you're gonna do? Kill me?
- Not that simple, Deimos. You will participate in our airsoft games now.
- NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
*credits roll and Linkin Park plays*
@DENOhritko so real
This is a fate worst than death
I mean Harry got killed so i am pretty sure that the airsoft games are over now (I am 2 months late on this comment)
@DENOhritko the best excuse I can give him is he is learning the operators tactics, but even that’s a stretch…
@DENOhritko Directed by Michael Bay
Deimos is real af, just said “Rainbow use to be cool and now it sucks” and kills the guy that made it the dumb Olympics
"In this fandom, Deimos is a hero."
@averymicrowave1713 yeah he kinda was ngl. Until they dropped the ball by having him get captured.
@ScoutTheSpartanman I came back to the game and immediately didn’t like him because he kicked Zero’s ass lol
@Azal423 not to mention that HE SAW ZERO IN A MIRROR, fisher would never allow that
thank you@captainslow_037
I love the idea that r6 matches are wargames, like when sledge caves the roaming cav's skull in, she's just playing dead, sure
Don't forget all the explosives.
@RUSTYTEETH8194 And it's 100% a "nonlethal" laser trip mine, trust me bro
When you get gassed by smoke you don’t get poisoned you just inhale green flour
Blitz getting nuked by a nitro cell is just a harmless firecracker, for sure
shooting .300 blackout because it makes the operators take a good nap
The White Masks, night maps, slow motion killcams, Article 5, realistic operator designs, Old Hereford, everything that made Siege dark and gritty is now officially gone.
@J_C_CH Take me back to Operation Health 😭
@Լiars For real.😞
@J_C_CH It's like the early 2000s having depressing, cynical reboots. Before the 2010s came along to make fun of said era, with irony poisoning.
@J_C_CH playing customs on house at night is an experience I would kill to do again.
You don't like the operator that presses a button to activate the nanobots in their teammates' bloodstreams, instantaneously healing them and improving their aim?
An anti-terrorist secret agency becoming airsoft sport celebrities is the dumbest story I ever heard. Like, not even fun B-movie dumb, just plain dumb.
its a game, not meant to be a movie
@michaeljoggerst1015 doesn't make it any less garbage
Actually I kinda can see a B-movie doing something like that.
@michaeljoggerst1015 Yeah, still makes the lore dumb
Someone should make a B-movie about it, and make it good.
i cant believe the "Rainbow 6 start a paintbull club" was canon, i thought it was some noncanon for fun event just for the esports or something 😭😭😭
I remember seeing the map description for the stadium and just thought "Oh, they use it for training, that's funny." Little did I know that was a major canon event for the entire game.
I feel like this was the biggest issue for r6, making stadium canon. If they needed a canon stadium, they couldve just made it an abandoned but polished stadium with no one there. It would also coincide well with the original lore for multiplayer being operators practicing against each other. And i feel like they shoulda just made a separate game for the pve and the story itself
I thought the White Mask group were the main threat, but the Multiplayer aspect was a War Games practice across various locations.
@smoketinytom at first i thought the multiplayer aspect were actual terrorist situations
Personal headcanon: siege is not canon.
The fact that this is all connected to the Splinter Cell canon and Sam is spending his retirement coaching operators for e-sports is also pretty crazy.
Definitely not canon for me.
Absolutely not canon for me
And Ghost Recon
Totaly canon for me.
Isn’t ghost recon also in the same universe are r6?
I have to applaud to Ubisoft for being able to make a worse lore than the current MCU movies
@Wally_West if there ever was a company capable, it's Ubisoft
@Wally_West Don’t know what the MCU ever did to deserve such an insulting comparison, Jesus.
Just a friendly reminder the main reason why you can’t jump in the game as a gameplay mechanic was because the original special forces advisors that Ubisoft hired to help develop the game said jumping was pointless because of all the gear you wore. This was back when they actually listened to military experts
then they added a dude who can jump thru hatches 💀💀💀
@Chustav0not only jumping in general but flying up into the next story is just crazy work
@Chustav0 to be fair he's wearing a tank top and booty shorts so it's not like he's got a 75lb kit on him
@ dude looks like an actual well fed crackhead you can met at the bus station
ready or not is basically now what siege wanted to be
Rainbow Six Siege is a game where most of the time I thought smoke's gas was the same as the white masks.
Fr. I figured they had an insider telling the white masks what rainbows next move was.
It would have made sense since in the Rainbow six book, the operators could never find leads on the people they were trying to track down until some guy working as a third party whistleblew on their operations.
I believe it was theorized that smoke is a rainbow operator but infiltrated the white masks. Was never confirmed or denied because they literally did nothing with the white masks since launch
it is (or was) he stole dat shit
@Padlock_Steve bro I've played this game for over 700hrs I was so confused LMAO
Sssssh...
An anti terrorist team being turned into a paintball esports team sounds like the plot of a south park episode
This was actually a small plot point in a boondocks episode. Wuncler hired blackwater mercenaries to play kickball lol
@Pierce1996h real
I feel like for South Park it would be the inverse, paint ball players forced to become an anti terrorist group… and then they’d die horribly because it’s south park
@Pierce1996h Still can't believe that dumbass bet all of Woodcrest's money on a kickball game
@Pierce1996h show with good writing does a funny joke, funny joke misattributed to show with slop writing.. lol
9:43 "This is rocket league"
The fact they wrote an entire explanation to justify having a super secretive elite military counter terrorist force be an esport team and use that as a jumping off point in the story instead of just saying its all non canon scenario is wild.
LOL
Yeah, like what are they smoking at the time?
@SirFailure nothing apparently. No doubt the executive thought it was a great marketing idea for esports.
What kind of drug were they smoking
Biggest falloff in history
You know what I hate the most? This whole stadium and operator vs operator escapade feels like the biggest cop-out in order to avoid any further PvE modes.
sir, the only PvE mode we ever got before the Tournament stuff was Outbreak. And since then we've recieved a literal PvE that allows you to play matches with actual bots + an overhaul of the Terrorist Hunt. Not to mention the entire game they made from Outbreak, that also released after the Tournament stuff. (Although it was in development before the Tournaments, plus its pretty bad). but overall, they've increased in focus on PvE stuff AFTER the Tournament Arc
A rainbow six game with no terrorist hunt…shameful
@-Alter- The new terrorist hunt overhaul mode is terrible tbh
@-Alter- you obviously are not a vet, situations were actually super fun and basically a better T-hunt
@acey6991 2 things bud. 1. I don't know if they've recently gotten rid of them, but Situations have been in the game for atleast 7 years. you don't need to be a "Vet" to have played them. 2. Situations were literally the games Tutorial and can all be recreated in T-Hunt. And although i've played since Velvet Shell, being a Veteran player literally has nothing to do with my reply. Ubi is a dog water company. But they didn't make a Tournement Anime style story arc just so they could have an excuse to not make PvE content.
"Most players are too distracted with the amazing gameplay"
Is this gameplay in the room with us?
I love it
Facts lmao
Guy hasn't played many games. Sad 😢
Even rocket league has more gameplay and epic ruined the game
I fucking hate it man, time to kill is almost instant, it's all about the reaction speed so if you're a half a millisecond slower, you lose
>character is canonically Jewish
>name her Ash
CINEMA
@Smonkus_ idk any jew with a red hair
@bravodefeated9193 you only need 1 jew parent to be a Jew. Maybe Paddy or Connor decided to sneak in on the way down.
@bravodefeated9193 Really? It's not uncommon but a few do exist, brown hair's quite close to red sometimes.
>counter-terrorism unit
>look inside
>terrorists
Team Rainbow is a bunch of countires working together to fight terrorism so the operators still serve under their respective governments. They wouldnt be able to just leave and join a PMC group while still being enlisted
based Sandstorm pfp
Yeah they'd basically all just be wanted criminals disobeying orders and committing treason lmao
Yeah they could, its called going AWOL it happens all the time
@CRCC-1 but then they'd be wanted criminals and the governments would be sanctioned to attack their pmc
@blinkachu5275 they're not just a few soldiers, they're elite members of a coalition anti terrorist taskforce.
Reminder that there is canonically a story in the R6 universe where Ash, Tachanka, Blitz, Frost, Ela, Iana, Fuze and Doc were transported to anime Narnia and Ash becomes a catgirl in that story.
Add the fact that almost all of the isekai Ops kinda jump start the world to space exploration and unknowingly rebuild a country
I've been out of the loop for years and are very confused
And it's better than the shit we get in rainbow proper 💀
@shoelessbandit1581Lets just say the Gacha game arknights creator is a huge R6 fan like really they have allot of inspiration to R6 the skill icons the enemies looking like white mask and they already have part 2 were they recreate the iconic R6 cover art
All in all they give respect to the source material while doing the Collab events and their individual story just screams "FREAK YEAH HUMANITY ROLES"
Yep, the tom clancy ip is screwed. It's joever
I miss when R6 Siege was serious. The cosmetics and crossovers are whatever. Ubisoft needs money and it's harmless enough, but the original operators with their intro videos went so hard. My favorite was Jeager's where he's so confident in his device that he just places it, walks away and has a tank round shot at him to be intercepted. It was serious, maybe exaggerated the tone a bit, but you got the message. These were serious people who didn't mess around. The whole stadium living situation just seems a bit forced.
Lmfao it never was serious. The last time siege was serious was the telegraphed demo before it released.
Imagine being an r6 fan from 1998 who read the book and played the first game. You load up siege and it’s a bloody sci-fi hero shooter
@lustrazor44 I miss rainbow six before siege
remember when ''Tom Clancy's'' meant grounded narative and feeling ''it could have happend '' ? been decades since i did
Sheesh, how old are you ?
I’d say the division hits that mark pretty well. The first one, anyway. Haven’t played 2.
Shit last one I remember being okay was the one on the 360
Honestly it spiraled out way before Siege. The instant Clancy trademarked his name and different writers and sub-brands took off most of the stories became pretty stupid. I'd even argue Red October was Clancy's only good book.
Fellow old head here, Rogue Spear and Raven Shield were the true peaks of the R6 series.
You know it's bad when the gacha game collab has better and more thought out lore and personality for the R6 characters than the actual game
Average Arknights W
@motorsporttj1689 very real
Blue archive
Tru@motorsporttj1689
Yeah, the characterization is quite good, it is true that they take very well and somewhat quickly to live in a world similar but at the same time very different from theirs, with very clear similarities like Columbia, but Ash looked like a really cool leader. And it helped explain things on both sides of the games. I hoped the 2nd event expands on what they were doing.
Tom Clancy is rolling in his grave so bad he could probably power a whole country
Perpetual motion Clancy.
Yeah, the sellout hack of an author would probably be mad instead of spending the millions he got if he was still alive today.
Dude wrote 3 good books and proceeded to shit the bed by the time he wrote the original rainbow six novel (which too, was complete dogshit compared to the hunt for red october). He never gave a shit and saw the games as a way to milk more money from his work and nothing more. He would have been over the moon with siege and how much money it's been making.
@TheEFedsAreComin thats kinda gay
@TheEFedsAreComin that's a little homosexual
“Tom Clancy’s rolling body, Rainbow Six Siege”
16:52 Ubisoft naming a character Deimos in a game that ruine it's own lore is so hilarious that they decided to do it twice (AC Odyssey)
Look at old footage of the game. The game used to be dark in visual style, deep black shadows, no goofy Rick n Morty skins, clearing a building was terrifying. Now its just Overwatch with destructible walls.
I only think it was dark and gritty in its E3 trailer the cinematics were pretty dark but ever since beta it's been pretty light visually. Now that I think about it, we did lose night maps 😭
Isn't there was a huge discourse back in the days about how the game downgraded everything in its launch? 😂. like it looked or played absolutely nothing like the E3 cinematic trailer
thats what IM saying man! I remember being 16 playing this game back then being TERRIFIED of walking around a corner, head on a constant swivel. It FELT like a sequel to Vegas, kids these days dont even know Vegas EXISTED and how SLOW and tactical the game was supposed to feel. Nowadays you get spawn peeked by Rick or A fuckin hologram rushes the site even better A fuckin robot controlled by a lady in wheelchair is pixel peeking the main door
@v-trigger6137 that's pretty much every single big publisher game
@v-trigger6137 The beta, alpha, and first season of the game played largely like the trailers. Graphics were downgraded in some scenarios, but the game still had some of the best graphics of games released that year, there was a lot of interesting texture detail and microdestruction. That being said it became a competitive game, and competitive games hate visual clutter and slow paced gameplay. Players quickly optimized the gameplay into a fragfest of lighting fast executes and spawnpeeks, while ubisoft changed the lighting engine due to players hating the fact that they couldn't see jack shit half the time.
E-sports and it's consequences were a disaster to PvP shooters.
Not true
CS franchise
@catalintimofti1117 ah yes the OG of gambling in video games
@catalintimofti1117 tbf speaking as a CS player Counter-Strike is basically a one-of-a-kind anomaly in the gaming industry
If any other franchise had (more or less) the same gameplay for over 20 years it would've died, but it speaks to just how brilliant CS' gameplay loop is that it's still kicking around today in the big leagues
Also CS is synonymous with competitive grassroots gaming, even since 1.6 there were a shit ton of LAN tournaments being hosted
@jacobgriggs9673 one of my friends got 1800 dollar gloves
Which prompted one of my other friends into trying his luck
Truth
I need to say that, in regards to the stadium, having all the operators live together in one location has got to be the worst security risks I’ve ever heard of
The biggest security risk is the active broadcasting of their locations.
I mean in the original book they had two teams of operators living in military baracks at herford airbase so this isn't too far off from the original. After all they had to be ready to fly out whenever a major terrorist threat was going on somewhere in the world so they can't just be flown in from who knows where before boarding the plane together.
@tipiet560 It couldn't be further from that? A barracks wouldn't have live spectators and a broadcast of what's going on. Plus, I'd assume it's much harder to find a military base housing these individuals than a literal studio people visit to watch.
@theldapperapple2382 I didn't say anything about live spectators or a broadcast lul? I just told about the original book and that the operators are all stationed in baracks at hereford base. There are obviously no spectators or broadcasts because THEY ARE FUCKING CTU OPERATORS.
@tipiet1403 Whilst true, at least they wherent living together in a very public area where any terrorist could attack
It's absolutely pathetic when you consider the past games weren't big bombastic tales, but the gravity of the situation was there. The first game (based on the novel as you said) included the overall plot of ecoterroism conducted by a CEO and his cronies to release a modified Ebola variant to kill off humanity.
Not only that, something else I can't stand is the new "modern/realistic" aesthetic. As in the attire. Rainbow went from a uniform appearance to this CoD/airsoft mishmash.
This is happening to Ghost Recon too. No more soldier of tomorrow. Now it's the lumberjack wannabe and his merry band of part-timers with decade old M4s and T-shirts. Yet they apparently share a universe, meaning there's no excuse for this "modern day" nonsense.
Soldier of tomorror to Soldier of your dads cookout party
@ "I just want to grill."
Ghost Recon’s protagonist you call a “Lumberjack” actually makes sense as some spec ops operatives and special forces do wear jeans and civilian clothes to blend in with urban environments and are comfier, given the environment they’re operating in.
@atas2561The problem is that Ghost Recon, the unit this protagonist is part of, was originally made up of the créme de la créme of the US Army, and from across the whole of the US military by the time of Wildlands. In addition to the usual stuff, they are blessed with the privilege of field-testing and using the latest tools and toys before anyone else. (The XM8, Cyre's Cage armor, the CROSS-COM, optical camo, Cypher and M.U.L.E. Drones, etc.) If anything, they disguise themselves as other specialist units.
Even with the whole "dressing down because it's practical" thing, (which they did do once in a novel while field-testing the CROSS-COM) it's no excuse to not go out with tools that give you an extra edge like what was done in Advanced Warfighter and Future Soldier.
@skootmeister3994Honestly? Looking back now at our comments, I just remembered that you can practically change our character’s clothing, and give them full on military gear.
It kind of makes both our arguments here seem kind of…pointless.
Baffled by the arena thing entirely. Dude saw 1 anime with a tournament arc pop off and was like yeah I'll do that
“It worked for Hunter X Hunter it can work for us as well!”
- The Writers, probably
I was under the assumption for a while that it only existed to bring hype for the esports invitational, but didn't have any correlation to the lore itself like Extraction
Which, I mean, tragically Extraction has a pretty good story (that I remember) but was abandoned by Ubisoft (as far as I'm aware)
So go figure ig
@whitetober7825 I actually didn’t mind Extraction at all, but they did fumble the bag on that too lol
@AraiDaiI plan on playing it soon but it's a bummer knowing Ubisoft just sort of threw it to the wolves
Back when the stadium cinematic dropped I remember thinking "oh that's cool, the Six Invitational is right around the corner, so they made this cinematic to hype up the event, having the pro players and their passion represented by the very operators." Never in a million years would I have thought that that was actually canon but here we are
@rbarzevedo SAME
I definitely thought the same thing, I feel like everyone else did as well because wth 😂
SHAAW!!
Remember when Rainbow was such breach of international law, that NATO and the UN would disavow them in a heartbeat if the world found out the true nature and origins of their organization? (John Clark specifically told you this)
Yeah, apparently Ubisoft forgot that part when they made Team Rainbow and airsoft team. When this first dropped, even I couldn't believe what they were trying. This was as far removed from the setting as they could get.
I had at the beginning thought it was less a sport team and more a team training/ it not being Canon.
Yeah that didn't last too long.
To add onto that, in the original Rainbow Six book, during the Olympic stadium section, I can't remember if it was Ding and Mike, think to themselves about how what they are doing could never become an Olympic sport, unless they brought back Roman Gladiators. And then reflecting that what they do isn't for sport and isn't "mass entertainment for a kinder world."
John Clark would be FUCKING PISSED if this is how Rainbow turned out.
@roningfroggy Yes, they use the excuse of "Training", but someone can't slam a sledgehammer into someone in "Training". So the excuse is null and void.
@collinmclaren6608Clark is still alive and kicking with the Campus so he’s probably seeing this now and wants to take back over
Imagine training hard your entire life, going through some of the worst experiences imaginable, then being awarded with the honor of joining the Rainbow Special Forces unit that's renowned for saving the world from Terrorist threats.
And all you do is play paintball
So you're telling me that while the Marine Corps were laying brass all over the Middle East, Rainbow Six was playing mock-battles in a stadium?
Basically, every other SOF/CTU unit in the world have been seeing actual action and stopping plots just like irl. Hell, a single Iraqi and Nigerian SOF who’ve been fighting ISIS for the last 10 years have more kills than all of Rainbow combined at this point
At least they weren't hurting innocent people for oil money.
Gotta keep the American characters human somehow.
@Jimpiedepimpie realest thing I’ve heard in a sec
@Jimpiedepimpie yeah the quirky scenes they made for them wouldn’t be so fun anymore.
@Thatguyduck-r4x yikes
Ubisoft has basically looked at the lore team and went: "yeah we'll just make new operators, you just do... whatever makes you happy..."
It's a shame they gutted Rainbow Six: Patriots to make this game.
Rainbow six’s lore was fine up until the invitationals when esports became the main focus
Its like if the Rescue Heroes stop doing their actual job and saving people to do a special training all the time
Or if GI Joe decided to host a field day and just let Cobra do NFT scams or whatever petty scheme they've cooked up for this week's episode.
@Calvin_Coolage exactly you could call deimos Commander Cobra of siege
And the same with the Decepticons
@beatit2464 And then Cobra Commander and Destro would occasionally train with the Joes because they agreed
You fail me yet again Starscream
Yo, rescue heroes was my shit.
I wonder what happens if you buy tickets to a Rainbow match and all of a sudden there an attack an all of Rainbow Six needs to go and take care of it. Do you get your tickets refunded?
You get on the helicopter
@TinnWard DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BAORD THE HELICOPTER!!!!
@RiTchieKII FOR YOUR OWN SAFTEY, KEEP THE AREA SURROUNDING THE MEDICAL TENT CLEAR FOR MEDICAL PERSONNEL AND THOSE IN NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION!!!
@TinnWard لا تحاول الصعود على متن المروحية
"Remenber no refunds"
There was a point in ghost recon wildlands where Nomad (the protagonist) asked Caviera about Operation Patriots, to which she replies, "it's classified." hinting that the events did indeed happen, the game just didn't.
The whole idea behind patriots would have made for one amazing game. I hope it gets ressurrected sometime soon and not censored in the slightest
Eh, I feel that was just a joke against fans basically teasing "you'll never know what happens because we aren't going to go back and do it haha"
@Savagem8 yea that honestly pissed me off more then it amused me. I grew up playing rainbow six on Dreamcast and went from there. And to not only have a game I had religiously been reading the game informer for cancelled for e-sports fodder, but then to taunt me with that? Suck my gooch Ubisoft
@Savagem8 yeah ubisoft is really snarky and loves to troll their playerbase, it's crazy
@zerozeroone4424from the leaks about the next ghost recon game it’s honestly going beyond what was even shown for patriots and going back to the tactical roots of the Tom Clancy series. It seems like Ubisoft is doing a complete 180 after their recent failures and are now listening to their fans.
Ubisoft Fortniteifying R6 will forever suck because from 2015-2018. IT WAS FINE. Now it became some cheesy lore with CONSTANT COLLABS
They really should have stated that Deimos is just a gameplay aspect and him playing along with their "training" is mostly non cannon. Heck they could have just hired a double for him and basically say "Hey, we think this is how this guy will operate. Play with/against him just so you guys can dip your toes on be ready when you fight him for real" Instead of basically saying "Yeah, this is the real guy. Why is he participating on the activities he hates so much? I dunno- I mean... It's some super secret reason, yeah. He's totally a 5head gigabrain and it is all part of his plan."
That’s such a smarter idea
It's not like I want to participate in your stupid airsoft olympics B-baka!
At this point who cares about this games lore or about the game itself.Fk it.Theres literally skins of rick and morty,master chief and other goofy anime like women operators and people still cares about lore.Jeez.
Thats literally exactly what they did
Nope thats a lie. The developers definitely expressed that this is the real Deimos@mc85it26
Dude the article 5 cutscenes and original operator videos were so badass. After your operator walks out of the decontamination tent, grabs his gun and rejoins his teammates as the music swelled.
"Fookin Lazer sights.."
One of my “favorite” parts of the Nighthaven shit is that some R6 operators left with them…Government owned, Special Forces operators, being assigned from their countries to team Rainbow…just left on their own to join a PMC…are you fucking crazy?
A PMC that chills in the same Olympics arena
Isn't that technically treason?
@alloyspider1019 not technically, full blown treason, and dissertation
@alloyspider1019 not technical, full on, executed as a traitor against the state, treason
@chillyavian7718not treason. Why on earth would it be treason? Most countries define treason as working with enemies of the state. What traitorous actions did they take? They didn’t go AWOL since they were clearly allowed to leave with no issue.
13:48 kali clearly is smartest in the room simply for "maybe if i treat the game as a game im more likely to win" 😭
Jesus Christ, I had no idea where the lore went after outbreak
Oh God. Outbreak is another forgotten project.
@nobodycares3900 outbreak was one of the best dlcs. Too bad everything went downhill after operation parabellum
@ieatkatanas you know. I feel like operation para bellum was the last good update for rainbow.
@nobodycares3900 for real
@nobodycares3900 Fr game finally died for me in shifting tides, now I only return like every 6 months to play a couple games
I miss the old r6, when it took itself serious. Nowadays I'm fighting fuckin pickle rick
Yeah, I thought the games entire draw was that it was more grounded and serious than CoD or BF. Now it's just another shooter.
What sucks is that it sells. It all works still, so the machine continues to push on.
Don't get me started on the Jynxzi fans that make it worse.
They say that the servers are maintained purely by the energy created by the speeds Tom Clancy achieves by rolling around in his grave.
Lmaooo
Why isn't this the top comment
Why is this not the top comment
They have now turned his grave into a turbine type motor and is now powering up a town.
😂😂gold
Black Ops 7.
This is now on top in terms of "The Worst Lore in Modern Gaming"
I often think about how ace is supposed to be a natural disaster rescue guy saving people that works for a private mercenary group
He always was an egotist
I was never wrapped up consistently in the lore updates for siege. But I do remember thinking, why did they make the leader for rainbow a hippy therapist?
Cuz he looks like most videogame writers nowadays
Seriously John Clark would hate it
Just threw up from how accurate this is @cicadaknight3048
Because Angela Basset was too expensive
I don't understand why AAA games are so allergic to realistic / "mil-sim" type stories. The same thing happened with the MW reboot, they'll pretend to be serious for about a few months until they start adding in zombies, dabbing emotes and Snoop Dogg skins. It's not even that "realistic" games aren't popular, games like Arma and Tarkov are huge. I'm just so burnt out with how unserious most stories are in games now, it's sucks all the immersion out.
grit and seriousness diverts from the norm and that scares companies. also the masses who still watch twitch streamers for some reason and gravitate to valorant/overwatch (the big leagues of subsidised art direction in favor of e-sports) magnetise towards cartoon graphics and atmospheres with hyper-developed character personalities, who in turn generates fanbases whose only logical conclusion is fanart and porn. and cosplay too maybe, but that's probably still just porn. the answer is porn and money.
for obvious reasons, because they don’t make as much profit doing so. Microtransactions make fuck tons of money in live service games, and you can’t sell generic mil sim cosmetics, because the consumers don’t care for that. They care for flashy, over the top, colourful etc, that shit doesn’t blend with mil sim. That’s why Snoop Dogg is in CoD, it makes money.
Marvel movies happened
@vryyyx They should just start out as that then.
That's sadly a common plague that has been ruining every live service FPS games. They let the game live too long to the point they run out of initial ideas then start adding goofiest shit humanity never thought acceptable in something that marketed itself as a serious shooter.
Not only COD, it happened everywhere. Siege, CS Online, Crossfire. You'll always find a transformer looking gun in game and nobody thinks it doesn't match the game tone.
So how exactly is wrapping a sledgehammer around someone's skull gonna translate to a sport?
The moment that made me drop from the lore were when the ducking writers decided to pick up a elite anti terrorism unit and make them fitgh themselves in a damn stadium, where literally ANYONE can go in and watch their tactics and strategies, like you know what I will end this comment here before I say a lot of bad words.
"where literally ANYONE can go in and watch their tactics and strategies"
The internet:
Harry: “Hey guys, I have an idea to show the whole world our own tactics!”
T*rrorists: “I see this as an absolute win!”
@PINESMALL_NOTREAL so glad Harry is dead 😊
bring back john clark
I believe canonically only siege staff or smth could watch the event, but it’s still very risky
@GoldenRUclips0406 Why tf would they need a stadium for their own staff then!?
didnt even know siege had lore 💀
Gameplay = 🔥🔥🔥
Lore = 🗑️
@iAmLufa Gameplay = 💀💀💀
I wish it didn’t
@iAmLufait’s the non shinny metal.
Gameplay was pure trash, too many sweaty playerbase
I miss the good o'l days where I can fire up T-hunt with my friends and chat while we farm credits in a somewhat chill fashion
14:35 say that again..

@FullyflightedITS A HUNGRY WORLD 🗣🗣
I don't really buy that the stadium plot was to make the story more escalable. What I think happened was that they realized making a game about anti-terrorists is inherently political, and they needed to tip toe around a lot of stuff to avoid offending anyone. They want to keep the game as apolitical as possible to attract more players. Think about the backlash they could have gotten if they had released any of the Russian ops now with the Ukraine war going on. Or what if suddenly one of the units featured in the game gets involved in a controversial situation like violations of human rights? Then an ignorant news station could run a segment about the game that let's you play as them. That's why they stopped featuring real anti terrorist units in the Operator's background.
Deimos is an attempt to go back to the anti-terrorist roots, while keeping the conflict mostly internal. He doesn't really follow any political agenda, his whole motivation is focused on Rainbow itself.
I try to explain this all the time, this is a perfect way to describe this.
that sound kinda reasonable,i mean they cancelled rainbow six patriot for the same reason
Sad that games cant tell their own stories and create characters without having to limit and worry due to people not understanding the difference between real like and fictional worlds
@Mi_tala I’m really sad that Rainbow Six: Patriots got canceled, it looked like it would be a good game, it’s a shame
@mayochup4684 well since how soft people nowdays,it unfortunately not possible for them
The lore plays out like a WWE storyline between tag teams. They literally duke it out in the field, have beef when they’re not training, then they duke it out again.
Except with WWE, their storylines are atleast coherent
its so retarded that they try and make old ass military niggas seem like teenagers bickering and dating like some guys working at McDonalds
@mr5.00ops Kali has more face/heel turns than the big show.
Atleast you can embrace the goofiness of Pro Wrestling as a whole in WWE
so the devs made “Deimos” as the evil personification of the OG players who wanted rainbow to go back to its original form yet they have the guts to make him bad and then turning him into a just a regular airsoft operator.
*Deimos, he is called Deimos.
@ProbNotCross alright thanks.
@starsjosephfrostgood
Now don't make that mistake again
Really goes to show you why games are so bad nowadays. Its because the developers dislike the playerbase and want to drive them away for their own slop.
@jurassicarkjordanisgreat1778If I was a dev and my playerbase was anything similar to Siege's, I'd hate it too lol
The game is hilarious, going from realistic terror scenarios where you play as an elite special forces unit that can’t even jump because of the heavy gear, to absurd moments straight out of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, only to get one-tapped by someone in a Pickle Rick outfit. It’s a complete joke. I know some may have gotten bored with the repetition but how hard is it to make a group that were inspired by the White masks and to improve on the scenarios formula. I can already imagine Clancy turning in his grave if he ever saw this. Combined with the fact that a classified organization just all happens to be all in 1 place and all becoming celebs is absolutely abysmal, it really feels like every game is trying to become cod and lose all sense of identity.
Fortnite isn't entirely to blame but it is what started this trend of shooters being much more goofy than serious.
Also microtransactions that are mil-sim don't sell as well as the wacky cartoon stuff and out of touch execs are forcing their employees to follow market trends, implement collab skins, vibrant cosmetics e.t.c. whether they fit the game lore or not.
Rainbow Six never, ever should have become so unserious because it's *seriousness* is the very core of it's identity.
I feel you, man.
@LuckyNobody1 Fortnite isn't at all to blame, it got massively popular by younger audiences and the skins sell in the cute cartoonish build game, it's all fine and well and they deserve the success... Why would you POSSIBLY make a realism centric game with that model if that's what your company wants to do? Make Pickle Rick construct barricades with his laser gun from the start then! Why bait me with SAS operators using realistic mechanism first? You're catering to nobody at that point.
@JustShotsForMehHow can you deny the enormous impact fortnite has had on the gaming market? It is no coincidence that post-Fortnite gaming is often free-to-play with battlepasses, childish, cartoonish & pop-culture microtansactions e.t.c.
Rainbow six launched before fortnite! Ubisoft then saw an opportunity to make lots of money by copying the fortnite model and slowly but surely destroyed the design of the game! How can you deny this, it is obvious!?
@LuckyNobody1 I don't deny anything you said, I cling unto the word 'Blame', Fortnite did their own thing and didn't step on anybody's toes; Any company trying to copy their formula is the one to blame, not the other way around.
@JustShotsForMehAh I see. But do you not find the ways that fortnite made their billions wrong (overpriced cosmetics made for children and teens to become addicted to) or the cultural, societal and gaming market impact of that game's development annoying as hell and a net-negative overall?
It's important to keep in mind that the first Rainbow Six novel was about trying to stop terrorists from releasing a lethal virus at the Olympics.
For some reason, the writers thought it'd be a good idea to have the world's most dangerous task force in public, showcasing military tactics all under one roof at their own Olympics. Terrorists could literally just study Rainbow's tactics, or even better just kill all of Team Rainbow in one place.
Insanely stupid writing, even for Ubisoft. And then, there's Nighthaven...
The idea of making a PMC such as Nighthaven having any level of technological competition or sometimes being technologically superior to Rainbow is simply INSANE. John Clark said how difficult it was to get stuff to Rainbow, and even their heartbeat sensors were donated by the government or something. But nope, let's just see these bum-ass mercenaries outplay Rainbow like they're nothing.
Not to mention with those Olympics, Ding even thanks to himself about how what they do isn't sport and would never be shown at the Olympics.
@roningfroggy Ding and the other Rainbow members were literally undercover during the Olympics mission in Sydney. If I'm right, not even the Australian Police was to be informed that someone carrying a vial that cointained a lethal virus was around. Nobody even knew Rainbow were there. But nah, screw the novel, let's see Mira and Ash duke it out with a bunch of bums watching it from a stadium stand.
17:03 “You know-“ *proceeds to get an ad*.
@HonouredBrother-cv5lh literally just got that lmfaoooo
@HonouredBrother-cv5lh Got it!
Lmaaoooo saammeee 😂
Bro just wanted to advertise Black Friday deals at Walmart
Yes
Ngl I was so happy Deimos dropped Harry
1:50 Just in case anyone’s either too lazy to try to find out or really can’t wrap their heads around it, he’s Copper III.
5:40
Thank God Tom Clancy isn't alive to see the shit they did to his beloved franchise.
Its like America Veterans, Video : "We Haven't Got the Country We Had When I Was Raised': 100-Year-old Veteran Worried About America"
I can feel that man now... He would have said the same.
The best thing Siege ever did was trash that old loser’s legacy
@malaizze broski mastered the art of bait
@necrolepticc would have to make rage to be true
@malaizzebait so unbelievable you couldn’t catch trout with it.
Tbh the graphics for siege kind of went down over the year aswell as the story. Tactical shooter goes downward into anime drama levels of writing
Not the graphics, it was the lighting which i do wish they brought back
the lighting was so damn good before, ALSO NIGHT MAPS RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Which is funny that an anime game collab arknight treat R6 character better in that game than Ubisoft ever did. Probably help that Arknight developer is a huge fan of the game
@robertspeedwagon982 Night maps werent great since you could easily see the attackers in windows and some skins made it hard af to see attackers too
@bennetth.929 it's realist, it mixes up the way people play (and other games with competent devs made similar maps togglable for sweaty tryhards who can't enjoy anything)
They turned Rainbow...into a public sports team. WTF.
In summary: Just play Ready or Not, it's the game R6 was supposed to be
I think that Deimos killing Harry is representative of the devs attempting to go back to a more grounded story without the stadium and games bs. Ever since Harry was killed off, they’ve had a more direct story of Keres versus Rainbow, but I can’t be bothered to learn about it past the surface level because there’s no gameplay content to experience the story in.
Yeah, imagine if they made proper Rainbow Six game instead of shit like Extraction.
The "Harry" arc was the worst period of this dogshit franchise. "We should hire a psychologist to run an international anti-terrorism organization" what?
@hermitgreenn Because the thing you need the most during an operation is love and team bound, not tactics or actual skills haha
That cinematic gave me a ray of hope, and then next season came out packed with more cringe. Yeah, fool me twice ubi
Story is still gonna be shi. Same devs.
dude at 0:53 looks like Rhett from GMM
That’s the Observer from Dead by Daylight
@Finzombie Still looks like Rhett.
I love how in Overwatch, you can pair Doomfist, the main baddie that Overwatch is hunting down, with the Overwatch team themselves and nobody cares
One thing that I despise about hero shooters. It's immersion-breaking to see someone blatantly working with the opposing faction.
@MartyrOfMidnight immersed in overwatch lmfao
@OrionDawn15 the only thing about overwatch I'm immersed in is the VR porn
They also recently added the Omnic terrorist that spearheaded/lead the Omnic uprising, yknow, one of, if not THE biggest wars in Overwatch’s world? The war that Overwatch was created for? Right there fighting alongside Soldier 76. That game is goofy ngl
@scoobydoo7275 You can be immersed in... most games, under the right conditions. It's not unreasonable to want. Also I didn't specifically say 'Overwatch' now did I?
I can't actually get over the decision to have Nøkk be the one caught on camera like oh my god do they WANT all the operators to look like total losers? lmao
Arknights made a better story regarding (some of) the operators than Ubisoft themselves. They even care more about the IP of them being a counter-terrorism unit
I would bet my money that Blue Archive has more self respect than Siege
Siege Ops at launch: A former FBI agent volunteers for an International Legion of Anti-Terrorist commandos who specially assist in hostage situations
Siege Ops now: I was good at Paintball and I got drafted into the local SWAT unit
Im a cat girl who plays esports, im the perfect candidate for the team
Literally a bunch of clowns. Just like Ryder says in GTA San Andreas: "Weekend soldiers! Ain't no match for Grove Street OGs!"
Your profile picture says my feelings for r6 siege lore and gameplay.
@choppergunner8650 trained killers would get their ass kicked by a bunch of terrirorial morons
I wouldn’t even be suprised if that paintball story was a real thing they’d use.
Why this game needed more than "special forces fight against knock off KKK who gas people" for its lore?
Because they killed all the spicy air boys in article 5 and decided that they were cringe now.
What, at all, is the similarity to the KKK other than them being terrorists?
@moai6275out of all of my friends, I was the only one to actually beat Article 5, and it was absolute dogshit
@choppergunner8650 im not saying it wasn't, im just saying they killed them off in it
@choppergunner8650 I actually really liked it. I beat it a bunch of times. I kinda wish they did more pve stuff but probably never gonna happen.
Team Rainbow in Arknights has a more serious story with a more realistic tone. And that story starts with Ash, Tachanka, Blitz, and Frost getting Isakei'd into a world where they have to fight magic mutants along side a talking lizard man and cat girls
He was a good Doctor.....
It's kind of funny that it also still does world building for Arknights, namely what happens when someone dies of funny rock cancer (Oripathy). Also how Team Rainbow's firearms work compared to how they work in Arknights, and the potential shitstorm that could cause.
I only know of Arknights thanks to some fanart...is this legit the story?
@DakotaofRaptors yeah, in broad strokes that is their story in Arknights. And in like 6 months that story is getting a repeat and we're getting a second story where Doc, Ela, Iana, and Fuze are trying to find the lost four; also get Isakei'd to the same world; and get caught up in civil unrest in Not Cuba and have to fight terrorist dog boys
@DakotaofRaptors yep it is. And it's better than what Siege lore is nowadays.
I still can't believe they took out University but kept the Esports arena bullshit. I never liked that era of Seige when the devs leaned into Esports rather than the serious Anti terrorism this franchise is known for. Deimos is such a G for shooting that moron Harry and its easily the best peice of lore we have got in a long time.
Outbreak was fun and awesome, but it should have been done and moved on afterward. But no, Ubisoft had to be ballsy and lean into that nonsese as a whole game.
White masks magically being killed off randomly in the lore was infuriating. It feels like making a serious Anti-terrorism campaign is illegal.
2:56 AYE ACHIEVEMENT HUNTER
I grew up with R6 Vegas and Vegas 2. The switch from a grounded story of an anti-terror group stopping terrors to E-sports was like going from GTA 4 to Saints Row 3.
At least Saints Row 3 isn’t anywhere close to sieges level of cringe tho
If Deimos was a RUclipsr he'd be this guy
1:12
I'm old enough to remember when Halo wasn't an online shooter.
They could’ve just had the White Masks funded by a rogue state of Whateverstan lead by a charismatic dictator and have them be the main villains for awhile.
Or have Aurelia funding them to have both the White Masks and Rainbow at her beck and call.
truly the mediumest outcome
They found out that it was much more lucrative to toss out all the PvE and the writers and start shilling nothing but cosmetics and over hyper-focusing on the overly competitive scene.
Imagine if instead of a stadium it was all based around intense training in a covert kill house training ground somewhere. Surely someone thought of that instead to be more grounded and achieve the same thing
That's just old hereford base. Until they gutted it and made it into a villa
Ubisoft has this unique ability to make a pretty mid game out of a very cool idea then ruin it with updates.
3:38 I always thought of The White Mask as the prototype for The Wolves in Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Breakpoint is inferior Wildlands is just less buggy and has better gameplay.
@StinkoDeBoyo nuh uh
@Thedoppelganger-ih4dxwildlands is so much better no idea what Youre talm bout
Tom Clancy is spinning like a turbine in his grave. (Even his most ridiculous plot lines have nothing on this mess).
Deimos was the only good thing they added in a while and then they arrest and and take him in after just adding him in a trailer he ain’t even last a couple months 💀
Bro might be the worst mercenary of all time
I mean, he was first revealed longer ago. He just lost his first fight immediately😂
@Sprutky he sold
Hereford base assault and Keres legion coming in clutch
I don't think story is a main part in r6 because the target audience isn't interested in it. Like you said, they're in it for the gameplay, and the company notices that.
I would agree except for the fact that you can see Ubisoft has heavily invested in their story over the last 3 years, arguably more than when the game started. They care about building their story because they have made dozens of CGI animations for it, and they push those animations like through the map stadium. But the writing is bad
@iAmLufa I don't think that's really to make any player care about the world in a detailed or specific sense - Raycevick (forgive the butchered spelling) argued recently for Ubi really pushing spectacle in marketing, no matter if the rubber actually meets the road in their games - so it's possible that CGI and other stuff really only exists for the flashiness, and is hollow otherwise because they don't really care beyond the marketing affect.
W PROFILE BROOOOO
Its in a story focused series tf you mean?
GORILLAZ PFP
I love Deimos as a villain purely because his entire character in Siege has basically been the writers going "oh shit I think this was a really bad direction to take the story" so they made a character purely to reset the lore back to Rainbow basics
You can tell by character design when the story shift happened as well. You cannot tell me that those that designed and wrote ops like Glaz and Kapkan are the same people that designed Sens, Junkrat and Roadho…sorry, Mozzie and Gridlock, Osa, Azami, Fenrir, Kali, Amaru, Iana, etc…
At least they're getting back on track. Solis, Deimos to some degree I guess.
Oh God, Osa and Sens are the worst. Literally characters made to pander to a specific agenda. They would never get military training anywhere in the world, and even if they did, it certainly wouldn't be enough to land them a spot in the world's "best counter terrorist unit".
@choppergunner8650 bro gridlock weight like 2 tons, and is inside the best antiterrorist unit of the world, like wtf
@Dervitox yeah. Rapelling would be literally impossible (her body weight + all the equipment she carries would break her fucking back). And Aruni is literally handicapped (Capitão is handicapped too, but I guess losing an eye is definitely better than losing half a body), yet R6, which started out as a somewhat realistic game, wants us to believe that this woman can punch through wooden planks, can run at top speed and fire guns, all with prosthetics? Fuck off.
Most Siege characters are a joke nowadays. It's literally characters made to fit agendas, and not characters to fit whatever's left of realism in Siege. Gridlock's supposed to combat "fat shaming", Kali's bio is literally about "the woman, oppressed by nasty men in her society, built her own mercenary army", Thunderbird is supposed to represent Native Americans, Flores is supposed to represent gays, Osa is trans, Sens is non-binary/toaster/whatever the fuck... like, when you watch roadmap reveals, you see that operator's country flag and you'd start to imagine how the operator would be. I always imagined that the Croatian operator would be some huge dude, with 200 pounds of muscles, probably a veteran of the Yugoslav Wars, scarred by the experience, probably lost his family to terrorists, joined the anti-terrorist squad to prevent more innocent lives from being taken, and not "they/them grew up in a place full of toys and had identity crisis when a teenager". The absolute disrespect to what the fanbase used to be, combined with excessive uses of unnecessary rebalancing of operators, weapons, "give an ACOG to this weapon, take it away from that weapon", "give him C4 instead of barbed wire, give her frags instead of flashbangs", taking maps in and out of the map rotation, and always remaking them to the worst possible designs that would make an architect kill himself, always pandering to Pro League as if the average player is as skilled as they are... that's what made me stop playing Siege altogether and said "fuck it". Never playing this piece of fucking trash ever in my life.
Yup, the entire creative team was changed at around that point, not just the writers but creative director, artists, everything
i have been dealing with a migraine all day today and i genuinely thought i was hallucinating that lore drop for R6S. i know nothing about that game… but what do you mean they turned a secret society military force into a game show?? that feels like a slap in the face to the original works it was based off of 😭
Deimos is just a playable character he’s still a villain not on team rainbow
Yup that’s right. Same with Nighthaven except they’re not villains. PvP is not canon at all.
@eliteraider6187which is sad and funny because them trying to integrate the PvP into the lore is what made it ridiculous
@eliteraider6187 they tried to canonize the pvp
@eliteraider6187pvp is canon. It's considered a training inside the siege world. Even if it isnt, why bother with lore if its not even connected to single piece of gameplay? (singleplayer or multiplayer)
@gots0359 BF and COD much?
1:37 there are no zombies in ba sing se
@UndyingBaron you deserve a reward.
Ever since Fortnite and battlepasses became popular, the story which is true for other games as well is where games pursued the live service model which was when cosmetics and quirky characters were emphasized over realism and integrity.
Yeah all these live service games have the worst lore in gaming and I am so fed up with it. People need to call this out more. The lore DOES matter and gamers deserve better. I want the next generation of gamers to have storys as good as halo to play. Not this fortnite slop. Cause thats what it is, its slop and lazy.
Oh I don't even give the story any thought. There IS no story. It's literally just whatever improvised bullshit they can think of every couple months that doesn't completely derail the improvised bullshit they've come up with so far. I've never seen "Assassins Creed 2" level-lore from a live-service game.
Story in modern halo is ass aswell.
@jurassicarkjordanisgreat1778 Why bother with *good* lore if you're a glorified gacha game but FPS that is trying to attract whales for profit?
The first mistake was turning every second FPS into a multiplayer only competitive live service
@eightcoins4401Shit, you've got gachas with better lore than Siege.
You can see the decline of Tom Clancy’s games writing after the Authors death :(
