why are you looking down here. Видеоклипы
"cover me up, scotty- " i think that's the line. Mandela effect 'innit.
edit: ah sheet
Its weird to me that you mentioned Johnny Cash's version of Hurt and Anderson .Paaks Cover Art and didn't mention "Heart of Gold" at any point. Written by Neil Young and coming from Harvest, the song has been covered by so many artist that its franly astounding its been around for only 50 years. Even moreso, I think what draws me to it as the pinnacle of what a cover song is, is its simplicity and the power it derives. Depending on the artist the song takes on such a different feeling and I've seen someone comment before that the country versions done by Cash, Young, and Willie Nelson all feel like the same person singing the song at vastly different points in their life. Adding other versions like Anderson .Paak's and Charles Bradleys soulful rendition, its a song that has a beautiful legacy. All of theme are worth checking out.
jibber jabber @@pet-purple-panda1634
You never even mentioned children of bodom who cover really different music which i thought would be interesting. Also johnny cash covering hurt is too easy, he should have done "head like a whole" now THAT would have been interesting
You forgot to mention about how many covers there are for come together by the Beatles
Listen to me first and the gimme gimmies
Nirvana covered the song "black girl" which they renamed to "where did you sleep last night" but black girl was a cover of "in the pines" which was a cover of a folk murder ballad
then, Kid Cudi covered "Where did you sleep last night" in his band WZRD
I feel like its not a cover instead its more like a telling of a story. Folk songs are readaptations of folk tales and are told differently every time.

One of the craziest things about covers, that I think most people don't know, is that as long as you credit the writers and pay them a fixed amount for every sale, no one can stop you from making one. Unlike samples, you don't need permission, even if the original artist hates what you've done with it. Want to do a ska version of Imagine by John Lennon? Nothing can stop you from doing it aside from common sense
as estelle types this out, the realm of parodies beyond human comprehension, far outside our universe, rumbles. some minion of the dark, observing our world, will quickly teleport into this twisted inversion of reality, hurry himself into the great throne room of his god. he crawls towards his master, scroll in his hands. the man takes one languid glance at the text, before dissipating the scroll into the air. "good job, dear minion," he says, smiling, and the little goblin grins, scurrying outside the throne room, and weird al rises from his throne. "good, good.” he says, standing triumphantly amongst his goons. “minions, we have done it," he booms, "we’ve the formulation to destroy the universe." his little goblins cheer in unison, and somewhere on spotify, in three minutes, estelle will have summoned it: the great ska cover of imagine by john lennon, and in three minutes the universe, as we know it, will cease to exist.
(yeah i know his big thing is polka but i think he'd do a ska cover of imagine by john lennon if he knew the world would collapse. mister yankovic would willingly implode our universe for giggles and chuckles. and i'd laugh. i like him a lot.)
But what if u cover like a riff from another song and use it as a sample un your song?
@joaquinkurozaki2624 this is called "extrapolation". It's trickier because you do need to credit the composer(s) of the song that has the riff as well as the composer(s) of the rest of the song, but how much of the revenue goes to whom is usually handled by lawyers and depends on several factors, like how much you took from that other song and how prevalent that part is to your overall composition.
It's something that does come up often in cases of plagiarism, where usually, it's only a portion of the song that is lifted from another composition. When the people who believe their song was plagiarized win the case, they will have their names in the credits alongside the other composers.
So you don't technically need approval, but if the composers of the original song believe the share you're giving them isn't enough, then can sue you, so most labels will reach out to them to negociate a fair share in advance.
Note that all songwriters of the original song need to be credited, even if you only take a riff that was actually created by one of them.
@@estellegrignon interesting, the only time i've seen this is with tributes to other artista, thanks for the info
if you're awesome and you can do it without crediting the original artist and without paying them a fixed amount
Denzel Curry’s cover of Bulls on Parade by Rage Against The Machine is one of the best covers I’ve ever heard. He completely takes ahold of it and does his own thing.
i greatly disagree. I love zel, i love Ratm, but he doesnt really do anything new with it, other than the rap verse. Same delivery, instrumental, everything.

I absolutely love Björk's cover of "It's oh so quiet". The fact that the original was made in the 50s (iirc) and it still sounds fresh to this day is just amazing to me. Also the song itself is really really good. Love the dynamics and how they fit the lyrics
i was just gonna mention it's oh so quiet! such a great cover
Paramore’s cover of Drake’s “Passionfruit” is really underrated. Should be talked about more.
Thank you for putting me on
no
the way hurt transitions to a synthesized cover at 11:32 is SO COOL. the level of effort in detail put into your vids still amazes me
I think cashes hurt is definitely one of the greatest covers and also one of the greatest songs of all time.
Personally I love Marilyn Manson’s cover of sweet dreams. He really makes it creepy and to me it brings a whole new meaning to the song
you're videos make me happy, you're so very funny and your editing style and humor is so perfect.
My favorite cover is The Cardigan's version of "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath. Yes, the Love Fool people covering Black Sabbath sounds rather odd, but they're actually really good. It's a mix of psychedelic and indie rock and I absolutely love it.
For me It's Squarepusher's take on "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division. It has a bit darker mood and it's focused more on the instrumental side, but it's still true to the vibe of the original song. And moreover, this cover is a tribute to Jenkinson's friend who passed away and who was a big fan of Joy Division.
Squarepusher also did an insane remix of Pink Maggit by Deftones that I'd reccomend
Not an actual cover song, but I love how Burial often uses people's own acapella covers on RUclips as samples and dubs in his songs. For example his song Etched Headplate uses vocal samples from a RUclips cover of Angel by Amanda Perez, and Homeless which potentially uses samples from multiple different renditions of the same song. This is more akin to sampling than it is relevant to covers, but I thought it was a cool little thing that Burial does sometimes to really make the vocals feel how he wants them to.
Billy Cobb does a lot of cover projects, and I really like his cover of Dancing Queen because the energy is turned up to 20/10 and it's so much fun. I also like his cover of You Belong With Me since he surprise mixes in the choruses from Float On and MakeDamnSure and so it is also really fun.
He really turned Dancing Queen into, a Sonic track.
I was looking for a comment bringing up this guy
the Barbie cover with free bird was pretty cool
I love the Billie Eilish cover of the Strokes' "Call Me Back", and, of course, Valerie by the magnificent Amy Winehouse. Man, I just want to say I love your editing and humour, great stuff.
theres bluegrass cover of Valerie by the brothers comatose that's also really good
A really interesting cover album is chonny jash's "Chonny's charming chaos compendium" which is a 27 song tally hall cover album where almost every song has new / changed lyrics.
Axeties
I was just about to comment this, 10/10 album
i haven't interacted with anything tally hall related in a year, so I was confused when I saw chonny jash's names come up a lot, but now I know who he is lol. I might listen to the album you mentioned. sounds interesting
I'm sad you didn't mention the Hotel California cover. That is a certified banger and is pretty much the definitive version of the song.
I love Charles Bradley cover of changes from Black Sabbath. Such an amazing song and Charles is an underrated singer.
i was just about to mention this one!
I waited and waited for you to mention Hurt and was so thankful you gave it the place of honor you did. Thank you.
surprised no one has mentioned deftone's cover album. Their cover for the smiths and sleep walk are so good
Onlysmallbites, you are probably my favourite creator. Your editing is superb, your animation is amazing, and i just love your content. Keep making videos!
He needs to know about the new 'Hey There, Delilah' cover
the cardigans's cover of sabbath bloody sabbath goes so crazy, one of my fave covers ever
You mentioned it briefly but RUclips with covers has been cool to hear different takes om stuff you already mentioned Pentatonix, but I'd love to mention PostModern Jukebox. They take current and classic songs and spin it in a much older sound. Songs like Creep have blown up from them and it's cool to see how much effort they put into each song
A very VERY underrated cover is You Keep me Hangin On by the Supremes covered by Vanilla Fudge. The song became SO true to lyrics in terms of tone
I love those vids, thx a lot, that was hella fun
Your really one of the best RUclipsrs out man. Keep doing what your doing.
I already know this video is going to be amazing
Thanks man you always got some good song recommendations
PLEASE onlysmallbites… I only have eyes for you little big planet version ITS SO GOOD
Editing is getting pretty fire my man 🔥
I love SiIvagunner lol that’s all I listen to now… and your old droog… 🎉 great vid bitey
Johnny Cash is a king of covers - he did a cover of Beck's obscure tune Rowboat and it's fantastic.
I think Guns N’ Roses Knockin’ On Heavens Door is amazing. The heaviness gives the song this power and weight behind it. Besides, Slash’s solos are incredible
guns n roses best cover was mama kin. they ruined all their covers with live and let die tho.
great vid as always! the hotling bling cover by billie eilish is my current favorite, i wish it was like 5 minutes longer. and the lovejoy cover of los campesinos' song knee deep at atp is one of my favorite covers. the original is great, but the cover imo makes the song even easier and fun to listen to
That opening, made my day, thank you.
The definitive cover for me is Devo's cover of The Stone's Satisfaction. It's such a cool take on a classic. It turns a rock stomper into a weird herky jerky wild ride. Surprised it wasn't mentioned here.
The Ataris cover of Boys of Summer slaps. I didn't even know it was a cover for a while
Get this man his 6k likes, dope content as always❤
I love twentyonepilots cover “The Hype (Berlin)” on their own song “The Hype”. I like it way more than the original. They covered a few of their own songs of the album trench. It’s so impressive how a cover even from the same band can change the sound and feel of a song so drastically
It’s happening the Travis one minute! Also I’ve always freaked out excited when I heard a song that was “a cover” unexpected hit all points!
My fav cover OAT is definitely At Your Best by Frank Ocean. Comforts me on so many lonely nights (ENDLESS as a whole as well)
One of my favorite "cover of a cover" is Dave Matthews band's version of All Along The Watchtower
how could you not mention It's My Life by No Doubt being a cover of Talk Talk's original song 😭
My favorite covers have to be Van Halen's cover of Pretty Woman (Roy Orbison), REM's cover of Superman (The Clique), and JPEGMAFIA's cover of Call Me Maybe (Carly Rae Jepsen)
Both the original, man who sold the world by Bowie and Nirvana cover are masterful
That Earache my eye cover by korn is really fun too
I remember "Your Favorite Martian" doing a few covers of their own such as Biz Markie's "Just a Friend" and Rehab's "Bartender Song". Growing up they were dope to listen to and even allowed me to dive into some great music outside of genres I was maybe uncomfortable with or unfamiliar with at the time!
seeing 'do 4 love' show up shocked me, snoh's music needs to be heard more often.
I just love the jet set radio future in the video
The onlysmallbites universe expands
Woooo new onlysmallbites video!!!
yeeeees i love midge ure's version of the man who sold the world ❤️❤️❤️ PUNISHED SNAKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
love nsp's dont fear the reaper. they really made it fit danny's voice and then showed they do love the original at the end 🤌
soft cell’s tainted love is an iconic cover too
I love RHCP’s cover of Higher Ground, didn’t know it was originally a Stevie wonder song
Fujii Kaze’s help ever hurt cover album is really cool, releasing around the same time as his help ever hurt never album and having a lot of popular songs being covered
It feels that when you go back songs weren't 'covered' as much as they were reperformed. Back in the day songs were written as templates for any story teller to use such as house of the rising sun, however as music became commercial and profitable songs became property rather than collective canon, creating covers and publishing rights. This is why artists 'covered' so many songs as they were just preforming the same songs that they had heard and passing them on to the next generation
Anotha onlysmallbites CLASSIC
Barenaked Ladies' cover of Lovers In A Dangerous Time is one of my personal favourite covers
A personal favorite cover of mine is oingo boingo’s “you really got me now” a bunch of people have covered that song but boingo’s version is just so goofy and brings something new to the table. Highly recommend
I like the 8 bit version of I Wish in the background
Johnny Cash's "Hurt" was with me during my worst year... didn't think I was gonna live after 2012.
I'm super grateful that cover was made.
First covers I think of that overshadowed the originals to the point where people don't know they're covers are Respect and Hooked on a Feeling
Pentatonix cover of Hallelujah having more views on RUclips than Jeff Buckley's cover is cursed knowledge.
My favourite cover, off the top of my head: Metallica's cover of Astronomy (Blue Oyster Cult). Bonus! Melodic death metal band Zonaria did a cover of Tears for Fears' Mad World as well, and it slaps.
Just went back to my childhood hearing the bosconian theme 5:27
9:21 “YO BRO LOOK, ITS onlysmallbites IN THE LIVING FLESH” am I the only one who noticed that?
i liked not because of utopia in one minute, continue making great content onlysmallbites
Onlysmallbites is the Scott the Woz of music
Billie eilish's cover of bad for like a version (the one you showed like a gagillion times way to break my gatekeeping) is for sure my favourite
My favorite cover is Gin And Juice by the Gourds. It combines country charm with, well, Gin And Juice. I recommend listening!
I'm so glad you mentioned Chester doing Rolling In the Deep.
I didn’t even know streetcar was a cover from kanye’s streetlights. I’m glad daniel did his version, it definitely brings more soul and raw emotion
Osees covering blurts the fish needs a bike was so awsome
onlysmallbites never fails to cover me in his content juices
I literally have 2 silly rules in finding cover songs, 1. is it a band I like or a genre I like and 2. does it improve the original or is it unique enough. One of my favorite examples is Creature Feature, who does a bit more spooky chiptune like music, covering Bury a Friend and it somehow works? Another favorite, which I thought was the original for almost my entire life was I was walking with a ghost, specifically the White Stripes version. I didnt even hear the original until trying to find it on spotify and having the original come up. Sometimes a cover would be the most played version of the song because I've gotten so used to it that the original doesn't have that much meaning to me (in a nostalgic way).
I like how security called security he covered himself
My favourite cover is "Carol Brown" by TomCardy. It's such a different song than the usual tom cardy song and its honestly kinda refreshing to hear it in the mix of funny techno.
frank oceans "at your best" cover is beautiful
glass beach’s cover of csh’s beach life in death is one of the best covers ive heard
Everybody by Mac Miller, when I found it was a cover I was amazed at Mac’s take even more
For me, that was just a case of being disappointed in the original due to being used to Mac’s version.
the unseen by quasimoto is basically a full sampled/covered hip hop album based off of melvin van peebles’ spoken word work. i had no idea until i went looking for the samples that most of the tracks are basically straight rips of whole tracks’ lyrics, even borrowing the titles for some.
Nirvana's cover of love buzz on their album bleach is good.
Have to mention No Doubts version of ‘Its My Life’ because a lot of people don’t realise that it’s a cover of the UK band Talk Talk. Who are little discussed but very influential in their own right.
They started out in the 80s as a new wave pop band, which is when ‘It’s My Life’ was written. But they then made a dramatic change in style at the end of the decade with their last 2 albums ‘Spirit of Eden’ and ‘Laughing Stock’. Which were more avant-garde and often cited at the point of origin for the post-rock genre. Their story making these albums is worth looking into. Involving commercial disillusionment and battling with their label for artistic expression.
I think both versions of the song stand toe to toe, but I slightly prefer the original because of Mark Hollis’ one of a kind vocals.
an interesting cover that comes to mind to me is Birdy's cover of Skinny Love by Bon Iver. i'm more familiar with the original as i've heard it first (it's also one of my favorite songs ever with For Emma, Forever Ago being one of my all time fav albums) so when i heard that Birdy's cover is way more popular and checked it out i felt like it changed the pace of the original and therefore didn't feel as expressive. i could see what it was trying to do but personally i don't think it lives up to the same level as the original.
Cap'n Jazz has a really good cover of Take on Me
i really enjoy Alt-J’s covers of The House of The Rising Sun and Lovely Day, they’re so different from the originals but they’re so good
that one sound of silence cover not being here is crazy
frank ocean’s cover of moon river will always be a favorite of mine
4:39 bro hit ‘em with the clone high hands
nirvana's cover of where did you sleep last night is my favorite :3
I really like Benny Sing's cover of Drake's Passionfruit. I think it was the first song of his that I heard as well and have been a fan of him since.
Lori Lieberman's "Killing Me Softly" being covered by Roberta Flack, and then the Fugees is the first song that came to mind. All 3 versions are great in their own ways!
Girl Ritual's cover of Semi-Charmed Life is so different from the original it's low-key insane. I didn't even realize it was a cover of that song at first.
my favorite cover-of-a-cover, even if it's super overrated, has to be bjork's cover of "it's oh so quiet" fr. love how it was brought up in this video
I love Miley Cyrus covers!! With blondie’s heart of glass, her take w/ Elton John of nothing else matters (with that one I felt, going to the og song… doesnt feel the same), and Zombie. She does great covers! :D
I love how life is a highway is a cover and nobody knows it, especially as a kid who watched cars as a kid I assumed it was the only version
