Vinyls for me are like, "I love this album so much, I want it taking up space in my house"
Me and my buddy buy them just to frame them in the hallway. It's basically the same as a poster of the album art but way more expensive, lol
Worth it
You mean owning your music?
thats why I collect cds instead 😌
YES EXACTLY
I absolutely love CDs man. It's so nice when you've collected a bunch of them and can display them next to/on top of each other, whenever I look at them it is just a great feeling. I'm 15 year old so I don't have a lot of money and that's the reason why I don't buy vinyls, but when I'm older I wanna collect vinyls too.
Remember guys: buying music, in whatever way, is much better for the artist than streaming it or, even worse, illegally downloading it. Buying your favorite albums doesn't cost that much (if we're talking about buying them digitally or CDs) and can support the musician a lot.
i just got my first cd, and i am 14 lol
@@okayjango I got my first CD when I was 12, it was a shitty CD from a trash local rapper (I liked him back then for 6 months lol) which then I gave to a friend of mine who still enjoys his music but couldn't find the CD. I'm happy I gave the CD away, I don't want it in my collection anyway. But yeah, I also got serious about collecting CDs when I was 13, a few weeks before I turned 14.
Same, started collecting CDs two months ago
i wish i could buy another cd like pink floyd, but my mom will be angry bcuz the cd's were obsolete
@@okayjango when I started collecting CDs, I mostly bought Eminem's studio albums and I had to hide them because my father would get pissed, as he thinks that spending money on CDs is stupid lol
Physical media is something that i will always have a soft spot for. I remember getting a Motown single for 50 cents at a thrift shop. To this day one of my greatest finds
don't mean to be that guy but singles are dirt cheap, especially when they were produced in the millions during the period where that was how artists sold records. I have hey jude on single from the first year of its pressing and I would probably get a fiver for it max, and that's only if I could find an idiot willing to pay so much for a single
@@JALC-x i gotcha man, but to me its still cool since its the only single I own.
Macintosh Plus - Floral Shoppe on vinyl is one of my hardest flexes.
But I also have a couple of signed from indie bands.
i saw a sing and an alblem with the same name on it both at a thrift store with a sign saying all cds are $1.00 and 50% off on Sundays. why would you buy thew single over the alblem?
@toby wong nice! I found Daryl Hall & Oats: H20 and Huey Lewis' Sports for $6 yesterday (:
The only problem with vinyl is people price them way too high
Some of them are limited like 100-1000 copies (more or less ) so those are valuable. And ones that didn’t sell well but over time have become collectible
Too true. It feels like a real achievement though when you buy one.
@@NPGLAMB but those are the shittiest ones, lazy companies pressing bad records onto a wack colour and selling it overpriced because they forced a supply and demand imbalance knowing that people will fall for it

No cap. It's hard to appreciate album art when it's tiny af on your phone screen or on a CD. Vinyl covers offer a nice big canvas.
Idk why I collect them but I’ve been collecting for about 5 years now
Vinyl will always be my favorite way to listen to music, it's just a vibe ya know

Call them "records" to avoid pissing off the vinyl snobs.
To be fair you should probably already know that if you’re making a video essay about it lmao
no
Lol everyone who listens to records calls them that.
@@ryland923 yes*
I thought calling them "vinyls" is what pissed them off, since "vinyl" just refers to the material the record is made of
I used to prefer vinyl but now I started preferring cassettes. I love listening at home on a cassette deck or listening on the go on a Walkman. Making custom mixtapes is also fun but my favorite is going to shows for smaller bands and buying their cassettes, something about having a full cassettewith album cover and everything for a small band is really cool
Yea I've always preferred cassettes especially since you can record your own tapes easily and cause lots of blank tapes are dirt cheap
Cassettes are fun!
Except cassettes have less fidelity than records lol
@@liluglymane5676and a flac file has better fidelety then a record. your point is?
if i cared about fidelity over everything, then i would just listen to lossless audio files. fidelity isnt the point.
@@marblecar1162 that + you wont really notice unless you have decent headphones/speakers. and even if the lower quality is noticeable, it has to be HORRIBLE to no longer enjoy the song.
I always love music on CDs, despite what people say, if you keep them in their case and don't play them wrong, they'll actually last LONGER than records. In addition, CDs have higher sound fidelity and aren't prone to wobble.
Yeah, CDs are better in pretty much every aspect, I mean they _were_ literally designed to replace records. I would say the only better thing about vinyl is the bigger artwork
@@martina-dd6vb The BIGGEST thing for me with CDs is the ability to skip/loop tracks.
Same for vinyl records. If you prevent it from dust and not play it on a low quality record player for more than 10 times, you can get the highest fidelity of physical media with the proper equipment.
@@amazeyourself_ i mean yah but with a knockoff Discman and a pair of decent headphones you can get the exact same or better audio quality out of a CD
Absolutely loving this new series of videos. Great stuff.
really unexpected to find you here

Not only is the way that vinyl records amazing, but also the way cassettes and CD's work too. The music on cassettes is both recorded onto the tape and played off it using magnetic waves. Because of this, a refrigerator magnet can actually erase a tape. In fact, some old tape recorders had an "erase mode" which basically was just a little fridge magnet that would activate.
And the way CD's work blows my mind, especially since it's 40-year-old technology. It has a little red light shine onto the disc, the red light reflects onto a computer dire thing, and it picks up microscopic dots and dashes and turns them into 1's and 0's, like morse code kinda, and it somehow can turn those 1's and 0's into music.
Same goes for vinyl. It's just a needle being dragged through a cut groove in a piece of plastic.
why all these people livin in the 90's, we have streaming -_-
@@HyperDevvsome albums aren’t on streaming, also it’s just more special to have the physical media instead of just pressing play and move on.

There’s just something so special about physical formats of music, especially vinyl. There’s something for me to hold my hands on, and look back at, reflecting on the memories that album gave me. And while listening to an album, I can look through the art within the sleeves and cover for it.
I agree, I hate how people digitalize everything. It’s fun to hold something physical and cool looking again. Kinda like books, you’re more engaged when using something physically than on-line. Baby Boomers and Gen X also have experience with vinyl records, so it’s cool that our hobbies relate to past generations.
I agree. Vinyls have so many disadvantages in longevity and sound quality but there is something so charming and enjoyable about having a physical copy of an album, and the experience of getting it from the store, unpacking it, looking at the art, etc.

@@abccba928I am visual person. I like to look at the little booklet, lyric sheets, and stuff like that that comes packed into a vinyl record or cassette tape
For finding/exploring new music, streaming is great, but it’s when you rlly love something (or it’s marked down in price at the local goodwill) that you get a physical copy (vinyl/CD/cassette). It has that collector element to it that’s always prevalent in fan culture, yk? Not to mention the sonic differences per each medium
I mean, there are sonic differences that are relevant but usually they're just...you know, worse. Listening to an album on a vinyl record is fun and all but it does sound noticeably lower quality. Plus it skips and crackles and hisses, which is super fucking annoying. Cassettes and 8tracks sound better but they also have a stupidly low shelf life because magnetic tape tends to degrade so quickly.
I would say cd is probably my favorite format.I like it because it takes up less space,is cheaper, and I can pack as many as I want into a car!Although,I do also like cassettes and vinyls.Vinyls allow you to see the artwork and listen to it better, and cassettes are cute little tapes that you can play on cool-looking tape players

How do you choose which format you are going to buy your albums on?
sometimes i love CDs is because it helps me focus in the music that i am listening too, yes RUclips and Spotify is good but there just too much distraction.. With loads of notification and new music that keep popping up, i find it difficult not to jump from one song to the other, However listening to a CD it keeps me locked into the band and their music with totally no distractions from any other source. thus CD is why i purchase them it keeps me focus Stay safe
This is what I’ve always said too. I listen to trance/house/dance music and on the CDS, the songs are mixed into one another. This means I let it play out without interfering, opposed to imusic which causes me to constantly shuffle every few minutes.
Really helpful when driving/studying as you cannot afford to keep looking

I love CDs, there are a lot of em nowadays being practically given away. One that I found during a college event was being given away by the radio station amongst a bin of other random CDs, and it’s absolutely fire. It’s like this nasty album cover with jpeg compression around like a setting moon with papyrus font for its title, but the music is like… so evocative of that late 90s early 2000s jazzy spa almost vaporwave vibe. It’s impermanence by Michael Manson for those curious. Just some random thing that turned out to be awesome
Those MD sales were mainly from Japan. But I'm surprised it was only 22 million since everyone and their dogs in Japan had something to play MDs with back in the days.

Love the resurgence in vinyl popularity. Some old fellow sees an opportunity to make a quick buck, thrifts it, and I get my Van Der Graaf records for like $5 at best.
Then there's King Crimson which somehow never sells below $30
I also love the resurgence of vinyls, although I do hate how much vinylheads pretend as if they sound better. They crackle, they hiss, they pop, they have inner groove distortion and even when they're brand new, the end of the record always sounds considerably worse than the beginning. They're also fragile and they lose sound quality every time you play them. They're a ton of fun to collect, they're a real work of art, and I'm glad they're popular still, but people be acting stupid as fuck about vinyls.
@@HeartlessValiumWhore it all really depends on the record and the turntable, my copy of aja by Steely Dan after a quick clean sounds incredible(better than digital) with almost no background noise. My best vinyl memory came today. I was shopping in Target and i saw TPAB so I picked it up and payed for it. I then walked into Marshal's, which was where my mom was shopping. I was looking for her when I walked over to the fitting rooms, and the female worker had her coworker friends there. They struck a conversation up and we talked for 7ish minuets, and I looked down at my valued album, and I looked at the workers and in that moment i decided to donate it to them, so I asked the group "hey, are any of you a fan of Kendrick Lamar?" And 2/3 said no, the 1 that said yes, I handed TPAB to her and I backed up. Her coworker friend said "wait why did you do that?" I said "why not? Have a nice day." I have never seen someone so excited over a vinyl. Thanks for reading

I predict this is the start of “The onlysmallbites dynasty”
I will cherish my vinyl collection forever and always. It's a much more, for lack of a better description, "intimate" way to listen to music. It's always fascinating to watch that record spin as the needle vibrates between the grooves, through some bizarre science creating some of the best music known to man.
If it's brand new, and it's someone I like, I buy a cd. If it came out on cd at all and it's cheaper than an lp, I get a cd.

I love vinyl records but I hate vinylheads with a passion. They never shut the fuck up about how vinyl is the only way to "truly experience the music" and it "sounds so much higher fidelity than any other format" and yet you can tell they're just using the facade of audiophile as a personality trait because if they truly wanted high fidelity analog recordings, they'd be using open reel. But considering how infuriatingly expensive and inconvenient a reel-to-reel device is and storing giant spools of magnetic tape is, they'd never even consider doing so.
