Even with the cost of index12’s, valve cover, gaskets, water pump, hoses and belts, it’s a drop in the ocean to maintaining BMW powertrains with an ‘S’ in front! I was ordering my E92 M3 the day the BMW dealer received 2 1M's. Had the opportunity to buy one right then and there but my heart was set on the M3. I realize that the 1M has appreciated more but Im glad I went for the M3. I have enjoyed the sound of the sky high revving S65 far more than I would have the 1M!
This is similar to what I went through! Except I'd been looking to buy an E92 M3 for months, driving them all, an amazing car, but just wasn't entirely getting along with it (had to be manual). Then by chance, dealer had two 1M's coming in and asked if I wanted to try one. I did, and I signed that day. It was what I wanted my M car to be, punchy, rowdy, nasty and fun. I have a F20 LCI M135i xDrive, it even rips the front tyres out of corners, its insane how quick it is compared to much more expensive cars. It´s a classic will never sell it.
Beautiful backdrop to go for a drive in rare BMW, good and fun idea! Also, I like the course for more driving and project oriented cars, interesting to see what the future holds. For fun you could track down a diesel 1 series as a parts hauler for the workshop side of things. As always, thank you Shmee. Again, really good idea, ' Drive Cars By Shmee'.
Great video - I can relate to what you are saying about the emotional connection to one of the last cars of this type. I managed to acquire a low mileage F20 M135i a few months ago - N55 engine. It makes me look forward to my daily commute but at the same time I feel sad that more and more these cars are being shunned by society.
I bought a silver 135i auto Coupe about 18 months ago, the one just below this. Was a lot to like about it, but it felt over engined and a big accident waiting to happen. I never felt like I could push it too hard as it could bite. Also had a significant number of electric gremlins with it. It looked good and felt good, but glad I swapped it for a Golf GTi. Whilst not as special, it is so much easier to drive and still plenty quick enough.
I ordered one of these when new and for various reasons, it fell through. I bought the plate MC10UPE for it and then when the deal cancelled, I sold that to BMW Uk who then used it on various press cars. I had a z4mc at the time, with some modifications. I felt that the z4mc, with CSL wheels, Eibach spings, Supersprint exhaust etc, was a better car. Make no mistake, the standard z4m is not as good, it needs the mods to make it super special. I also had an m3 CSL and I maintain that the correctly updated z4mc is the best of all of them.

The 1m what a car! I had a 135i manual with the m sport package and the n55 engine. It was a truly great car and close to the 1m at least for most street driving. I had a Bmw Power Performance Kit (ppk) tune bringing up the horspower and torque a bit. The car wasn’t crazy fast but it was plenty quick and the 2-3 shift is a blast with the way the transmission is geared. I sold mine during early Covid days for significantly more than I paid for it. I feel as one day I will grab a 1m as that was and has been a dream of mine as well. Even though it isn’t the best content car I feel it would still do decent for your channel. The n54 in the 1m is extremely capable and you could do some sort of a build like your old AMG GTR or the red focus. I think you've been spending more time with Jayemm behind the scenes haha. But I do think more attainable modern special cars is a great shout for the channel.
There a few videos of these cars with tasteful upgrades. People claim this, with the correct mods, to be the best 'compact' drivers car they have ever touched. And from the videos I have seen, it looks to be an absolute blast to drive.
Agreed! The 1M came with the old Michelin PSS’s. With more modern rubber - like Cup2’s - more power is then needed to get the original chassis character and balance back. At around 500-550hp these things are an awful lot of fun 😅
She's really a cool car and u should consider her. It can even be as u said a project like an engine swap or something but not too crazy and it needs to be in a little rough shape ( not like this one) God the colour looks amazing 😍.
It’s interesting that you can get an M3 with a V8 for half, or less, what a 1M would cost. That tells you something. The 1M seems to be more the successor to original E30 M3, that I thoroughly enjoyed driving. I think you should get one. That’s my vote.

Great video I feel you like did a great job of highlighted the points of what makes the 1m a truest special Bmw.
Some old skool fast Ford's to the car collection and wee Skoda fabia vrs
Yes !!!! That's a magnificent car Tim !
You just described the definition of a car enthusiast during the show 🥺
Would be good to have one of these in the collection. I miss my M135i more than any car I've had.
Ahhh Memories, in my youth I had a 123d convertible any my mum had a 1M both such fun little cars, RWD Manual, what more could you want.
I never liked these till I watched this video! Great review 🎉
Awesome scenery , wicked video as always
Just bought a 116i. Great car
I've driven a friends in the US. awesome car. and the M2 Comp which he also has. BMW at their best.
Wise choice, these never even really depreciated.
Surely you saw my message the other day.. where I suggested doing an E82 project. What a coincidence 😲
I have a E82 125i M-sport. 6sp manual, slick top. I'm doing a few bits to it.. turning it into the 130i it should be. 😉
Keep it in gear on shifting forward, the map is reviewed for territory persuading comparing, gap analysis learnings from history, co drivers reminding about limited slip differential for four drive spare wheels for off road capabilities. Thanks for suggesting course corrections with co-drivers
What's that? A project car you say? I'm in! Can't wait to see what you do with the beast.
😁😁I know its not the same thing but I just bought a 2011 135i coupe what a coincidence that you're doinga video on this beauty just now!
The moment I saw those chunky wheels I knew what car it was!😆
Still a great choice, congratulations!
Yes find one in white this is my favourite bmw of all time modern e30
I remember you asking about your E82 Bluetooth issues on babybmw forum.
1M is an amazing thing. I was very lucky to experience on in 2011.
That's very fun you remember that! I had absolutely zero idea what I was doing with the install, but we live and learn.

I had a stage 3 135i and was on that forum a lot back then. I met my partner there too😀
I really hope you pick up a 1M and have some fun 🤩
I agree and the M2 non competition are the best M cars
You should definitely add one to your collection. They are such a rewarding car to drive. I'm never selling ours, if things got rough I'd sell the house and live in the 1M.
i had that button on my seats in my bmw 320si, very comfortable 👍🏼
Brilliant video. Definitely the way ahead. Like you say it's not all about horse power and million pound cars. More content like this please 🙏 👍👍👍
M lites with the N54/N55 engines are great fun and amazing price/quality!
The 1M is a future classic for sure
I have a 128i manual coupe and have to admit it is very fun to drive
Good, I will buy one of these too
Cheers for the video mate 😎 👌
I’ve driven a m135i 2013. Was my first ever sports car I’ve driven and it was truly amazing. Felt really fast even if it’s slow for this day and age. Perfect for me
Great thing about them is if you ever feel bored of the amount of power you have they are so tunable you can easily dial it up to 400+ hp
Owner of a few toys BMW E46 M3 convertible is my favorite daily driver 08 1M is as good but had to change turbos out. You MB black is finest car in your fleet
In my opinion the best modern BMW. I also own an orange 2012 1M with less than 3500 miles. If you really like it, go ahead and buy one ;-)
Finally,, mixing it up abit, with afew affordable classics,, be great to watch afew older greats 👌
This is truly one of my all time favorite BMW's. It wil be a perfect BMW for you
I think it would really be up my street
