  • This video shows how to make a DIY lightweigh concrete floating shelf. Start comparing quotes and simplify insurance with Policygenius: Policygenius.com/modustrialmaker
To make this DIY concrete floating shelf, I started by carving a mold from foam. I covered the foam mold / form with epoxy resin, and then sprayed glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) to get a smooth surface. I then hand-packed the concrete back coat to ⅝” so that this shelf would be lightweight and could be hung with a hidden french cleat, since having no visible hardware is necessary.

for anyone doign this - a few coats of latex paint is enough of a barrier between "hot" solvent based chemicals that may otherwise melt the foam, works with most foams.

if you paint the sides of the lettering on your sign black then the words will look more clear when lit up. in the video it looks less easy to read because light comes through the sides too and makes it look blurry.

I'm always enjoying your videos and appreciate the time and effort that goes into all of them. One thing I've noticed in several videos is that the clip on microphone you are using seems to lack clarity, so I have to turn up the volume of the TV in order to hear what you are saying. This doesn't seem to be an issue with similar mics used in videos from other content creators.

Mimicking something completely natural is the hardest thing to do, that's why most people will just caste it from a real rock. Your technique was awesome in all phases.

I left an honest comment about it. It is really hard to make rock look real, most people will just do a caste from a real rock, which is a pain, but at least it looks real. He would have been better off just using globs of concrete, like he did with the light fixture. His sculptor friend should have warned him, this is almost impossible to get it to look remotely real.
