  • Now that I've finished Starfield, someone asked me what exactly I loved about space exploration in Bethesda's sci-fi RPG. That's an easy question to answer, so let's dive into all the reasons why I love space exploration in Starfield (and other games!).

I also find it interesting that they made it so that after you have gone through a battle, there is often a "ship debris" (or whatever it is called) location on the nearby planet or moon. I have had encounters crop up after scanning a planet that I know had no points of interest discoverable from space, but the crash site/debris location was created immediately following or during the space combat encounter.

In terms of being a "space explorer" (with no main or side quests active), what I've been doing recently to have fun is:
Flying around and scanning, looking for "Civilian Outposts". You stop by and talk to everybody, asking about their experiences at the outposts. Then sometimes they ask you to go and take care of some threat somewhere else on the planet. They are usually pretty easy. Then when you go back to them, sometimes they give you more to do. It does seem procedurally crafted. But it's still fun. It's very random.
You can leave whenever you want and go explore for more. Can be good XP also.

I've also found a couple of them that have their own mission series and even one that had a mission board.

New sub... It's an age thing, at 60 I love this game. My rules: 1. Full survey every landing 2. Must check 1 Point of Interest every landing (beyond survey or active mission). 3. Build ship via Skill Growth on lvl 1 start, using first ship taken. 4. Play and Refuse to Join Factions... 5. Set up a network of bases unique to PC.

While there are a lot of barren planets - every once in a while you come across a world that is just beautiful - loaded with plants and wildlife just doing their thing.
(Not to say there isn't beauty in wandering around on one of the other moons/planets)
I should do more of the courier and survey missions - now that I've put so many hours into other aspects of the game.
I'm hoping that Bethesda puts in many more random encounters for when you're just seeing what's out there or on your way from one place to another.
Valentine and space grandma always make me smile, no matter how often I encounter them.
One day I may even have the minerals on hand to give to the roving scientist with the bad jokes 🤣
Of course - exploring space is so much more fun when you have your crew - onboard the latest ship you've built/stolen/bought.
Like say the Thunderbird 2 I spent 4 hours on last night and that I need to finish 😁

Renfail! I’ve been enjoying the starfield content you’ve been putting out! You’re my main starfield channel. Did you know that you can hold select while in your cockpit to hide your HUD for a more immersive feel, give it a try and let us know what you think! I believe you would love that feature, also you can completely remove HUD opacity on foot which is the way I enjoy playing the most!

Agree great (cus free) overview. However I just love every aspect of the game, it allows me to be the astronaut I always dreamed of being. Simply allows you to live out your desire to explore and experience space in what ever way you want. The games gives you a living world and whilst not perfect it's still one of the best games I have played (and I have been playing games since 1983 on the amazing ZX Spectrum)

So can we avoid fighting those spaceships as we keep exploring?
I want to role play as a mad scientist - going to worlds, scanning everything and maybe building a tiny outpost and moving on to the next planet or system.
Maybe put points into science in the skill tree.
Is it possible to play like that?
I may own a basic transport ship. Not a fighter. So I don’t want to do space fights. Can we just land on planet or hyper drive away when I encounter those ships?
I would appreciate your insights and I will get the game on sale.

I also like exploring, even if after a little while it become extremely repetitive with copy paste content. I like the feeling to be in space and if i can find a planet that has a nice alien look, it makes my day.
I have about 650 hours now and i still like to go on a planet and just enjoy the scenery and the feeling of being in space on a lonely world.
I don't do any points of interest as i have seen them hundreed times and the are just a few of them and they are an exact copy each time. Also the random encouter in space quickly gets old as they repeat again and again.
In fact this game is great for exploration when you just start in the game and everything is new but later it can become annoying if you are not into just enjoying simple things like a nice scenery, strange creatures roaming around and living their life. Or maybe you can have fun by searching extracting every ressource possible in the game and storing everything using the cargo ships and outposts. I have 50 tons of every ore, every organic material, every liquid, every gas. That was a loooot of work and for absolutely no use but it was fun to do it.

@@Renfail Just a little correction, when i said no use, it was wrong, you can sell all this and get extremely rich!
A good advice would be to find a planet with plutonium, extracting it and selling it. It's the most expensive ore (maybe vytinium is better, i don't remember) and you can get tons of it very quickly.
So you can be a millionaire in a few ingame days. The game allows you to carry tons of it in your pockets, you will have a very low health, blurry vision but you wont die and you will get rich quick! 😁

I found Starfield to be a slow burn of a game. If you try to push through the game you may find it frustruation. Take your time. Not every spot is going to be exciting gameplay. If you try and scan a planet quickly you'll most likely hate it. Take your time, take breaks. I found playing a few hours at a time was the best way to enjoy it.

You would think, with a title and thumbnail that expressly says "Why I Love Space Exploration in Starfield", it would be a given that the entire video is about space exploration in Starfield.
