As we all know, a student pursuing a major or a degree in Computer Science just cannot get by without a good laptop. Although the primary criteria for most students would be coding, learning programming languages, concepts, submitting assignments on time, making projects, etc. the students could also do with some extracurricular breathers such as occasional gaming.
I’m going for a major in 3d animation so I’m really looking forward to this laptop

@@Siuulolñ It is the answer. Do coding classes which are heavier on the cou with the amd cpu and then go about studying with the 8 hour battery. And then play games in the library with laptop plugged in with the rtx 2060.

Can you please explain why at 6:58 you say "because its an AMD chip, you have to be running 2 channels". Is it important to add another Ram card? Thank you for your informative videos. Marios
Its not important but its very worth while
Regardless of manufacturer, its always good to have dual channel memory. But in AMD's case, you get a lot more performance with having dual channel ram. Note, the RAM should also be at a high clock speed to get even more performance. Sometimes you get between 10-20% more performance over single channel.
The technical reason is complicated. Just know that dual channel is better than single channel
Running your RAM in Dual Channel means that more memory bandwidth is available to the CPU. In case of Ryzen - which supports really fast DDR4 Ram speeds - these chipsets have more CPU cores and more threads and love to have more memory bandwidth to work with. You'll see a great improvement in framerates with dual channel ram.

@@willgagner8302 Go to Task Manager -> Performance -> Memory and note the Speed and Slots used. Make sure there is 1 unused slot (used 1 of 2). I'd recommend installing HWiNFO -> go to Memory and note the tCAS latency or timing (first number in the hyphenated sequence). On the G14 it is 22 for me. Now all you need to do is buy another SODIMM RAM Chip of the same speed, same size and same cas latency (or lesser/lower but not higher) as your first one and install it. Boot it up and your laptop should be running in dual-channel .(verifiable by going to HWiNFO -> Memory and the memory speed should read half of what the original memory speed was). Let me know if that helped.

Quick tip for new owners. The laptop can get way too hot in Performance and Turbo mode even with all your drivers that are updated including bios and the NVIDIA card ETC. Even with all that updated it will still run hot so to prevent this I recommend turning off the boost and you'll see a significant drop in temps the highest it will go is about 80 or even 84 depending where you live with ambient temperature especially in this summer weather. This will clock the CPU at about 3000mhz while gaming and you'll see a solid stability in FPS and performance it will run hot but the keyboard won't burn you anymore. I highly recommend this.
I like when reviewers are really critical of all aspects of a product; I want to hear them talk about details and everything they can talk about (normal content). This is what drove me to your video!
I also like it cause then we know if laptop is worth the price and what disadvantages it has.

And it's as amazing as everyone says. My first laptop ever (coming from a desktop PC) and I couldn't be happier.

coming from the Google pixelbook, after buying and returning about four or five different laptops in a 60-day span, this thing is my absolute favorite. if you can get over the bad key backlights then you will absolutely love everything about this little beast of a machine

Just bought it. You can connect your phone camera for zoom meetings if you download an app called Link to MyAsus. You don't need a webcam.
AMD is really giving both Intel and Nvidia a tough time, it's a really nice thing for us consumers.
I wouldn't say they're giving Nvidia a tough time, specially since this laptop uses either a 1650, 1660ti, or rtx 2060

Already got a monster of a gaming PC, just need something sturdy, powerful and slick for programming. Love the ROG keyboards and keen for something smaller than my old G15. And honestly, that grey colour... makes my mouth water. My entire set up and room is black and grey so that is perfect
I have never waited this impatiently for a product like i did for G14. So thank you for the review!

wait a little bit and there will be other models and brands that offer something per each person taste, HP, Dell, Lenovo,... and others are integrating AMD chips now but Asus got there first.

exactly... honestly I don't believe there will be a better 14 inch gaming laptop for the price(this is a light 1.6kg 14 inch laptop),of course the fact that it doesn't have page up and down keys itself will be a big deal breaker for people like me
@@anirudhmathur5555 Seriously how did they even think of skimping on page up/down keys and home/end keys? Asus shouldn't have done that. For someone who codes alot, its the worst thing.
Honestly, in a laptop, going over a 1660 is going to really add bulk and heat. Not only is the card bigger, but so is the cooling, and battery needs.
You can have a highly portable laptop OR a gaming laptop (pick one).
I think in a highly portable laptop, 4k display with 1080p gaming makes the most sense. 1080 to 4k scaling has a 4:1 pixel ratio, which means smooth & simple scaling. 1440p display may look just as good at 720p as 1080p for gaming, due to the way the pixel scaling works. (PS: good review)
The laptop has now a RTX 3060 ti, the thermals will be worse lol
For the keyboard backlight I support you 💯, i have n551jx from asus same issue I only use it when I sit higher than my laptop or I am using it in a very pitch black room for typing, otherwise it is beautiful in dark lol

If only they'd placed a webcam, this could've been the best all-rounder laptop ever ! It's light and portable, capable of editing videos, even has an exceptional battery life ! Hope the guys at Asus comes to their senses next year an inserts a webcam.

Hey man, in your opinion, what's the most bang-for-your-buck configuration of the G14 for someone who's not really a hardcore gamer?
I had a Zephyrus GM501, based on Dave and LTT's recommendations. Great machine, but their customer suport to fix a broken hinge cap was an absolute abomination. I could never go back to ASUS again after that :(
I admit they give a great product, but support in my country about ASUS is just non-sense, they even stole my 8GB So-Dimm slot and replace it with 4Gigs. So more consideration (currently on Dell).
Fajar Nazmi Don’t go Alienware; customer support went down the toilet and they solder on ALL of the RAM.
The same thing with my Dell Inspiron Gaming... Dell customer service is the worst... went through 4 months of hell just to get it replaced at the end of it... at least at the end of it all they sent me an upgraded laptop with more ram,storage,etc. Great product, but still bad customer support is such a turn off.

Dell is better around here at least. Never have anything weird when i complaint (on/off warranty).
Every country/reg has different CS i think, MSi is worse here and that's one of the reason i didn't went for it, Acer is good but when i tried to buy the product, it was out of stock.

Just bought one today (Ryzen 9/2060 Max-q). So far, I am really happy. The Trackpad and Keyboard are way better than My Dell XP 15 9560 the Asus is replacing. In fact, the trackpad is one of the best Windows track pads I have used to to date. The key backlight sucks, but I knew that going in. Thanks for the review Dave as it really helped me just do it.

Waited months for this device to be released, and when it finally did today, they're only releasing a single configuration with the GTX 1650Ti (not the GTX 1660Ti MaxQ!) in my country, and at S$2.5k which seems pricier than other counties. Really thought this would be the one. Bummed out!
Would you recommend this laptop for video editing? From the specs it seems pretty good for it.
