14:33 Except for the fact that it's significantly faster at literally every other task in Premiere. Unless you are using the machine as a dedicated export/render box, this is very much the wrong take. The Turing NVENC encoder on the RTX 2060 can be used instead of Quick Sync in many places as well. Also, the quality hit with Quick Sync is the highest.
Engineers: "We made this just as good as premium Intel laptops!" Asus exec: "What?! We can't have that! Cut the USB speeds!" Engineers: "But..." Asus exec: "DO IT OR YOU'RE FIRED!" Engineers: "..." Asus exec: "Also no webcam."
No webcam is a bonus, not a downside. Sick of taping over it, even then they are all pretty crappy and force larger bezels. People are always complaining because a product isn't 100% tailor made for their ego, sorry maybe just maybe this wasn't made for you.
They should take the exact same spec, put it in a 15" chassis, bump up cooling pipes and battery capacity. Would make an incredibly silent, long lasting, all around high performing notebook. For me, the perfect one at that.
Yeah, I'm also hoping for such a device as I really wanna go with AMD for my next laptop. Also, a full size RTX 2060 would be a good addition in a 15" chassis.
I guess they're still testing the waters. I thought it would've made sense to release a 15" alongside the 14" notebook. Personally, a 14 incher is perfect because i commute to school daily.

They need to. This is Intel's last true bastion when it comes to the consumer and business markets. If 1st line PC manufacturers like Dell and HP accept and push AMD CPUs over Intel, it will pretty much be the end of Intel as the big name in both Desktop and Laptop sectors, leaving only Server markets. However Intel has a lot of money and is well known for paying these manufacturers to ship millions of their CPUs preferentially. The main issue though is that AMD doesn't the capacity to produce "millions" of CPUs like Intel. And that tends to be a major bottleneck when it comes to these big companies choosing AMD.
Fernando Cárdenas considering AMD can do it as faster or faster at lower TDP and lower prices.. vendors will jump at this quickly.. cost-to-profit is king in business.
This video convinced me to go with the Asus over a Razer Blade and I couldn't be happier. Between a bloated EliteBook I have to use for work and my personal PC (a surface) I honestly never knew a laptop could be this FAST. Thank you for the advice!
watch linus's video on the laptop.... maybe just a copy paste on the text they used to show times, and the bars are correct to the source input numbers
Highly considering switching from my surface book 2 to one of these beasts but I really need to read up on screen specs and wait for reviews on it because I really value a good screen for the type of creative work I do
You're probably going to have to wait for a Surface Book 3. Microsoft spent a lot of time and money designing custom displays just for the Surface Book. I always wondered why MS didn't use the same display on the Surface Laptops, turns out they couldn't have been price competitive if they did. Maybe look at an MSI Prestige or Acer Creator notebook - or dare I say it, MacBook Pro 16. If you want a display on the same level as the SB, you're going to have to pay a lot and it's not going to have a high refresh rate.
depending on the content creation I wouldn necessarily go with one of thewese G14. They are ggreat performers but for Adobe apps they fall behing (thats adobes fault but still). Usb ports are all slow and even the type Cs are just 10gbit. Idk about you but as a content creator I really value my docking capabilities, my desk set up with external monitors and fast external storage. Not to mention (this one is just an opinion and a picky one) i find it quite ugly even tho its better than most gaming laptops.
Easily the most in depth review I've seen so far, everyone else seemed to skip a lot of details. Wondering when the fully specced model will be reviewed/released.
@@HammieSiochi I bought mine a week ago from Best Buy as it was on sale. I am coming from a Lenovo X1E Gen 1 and I’m loving the ASUS so far. It runs cooler than my X1E but the gpu fans can ramp a bit under load. The portability and feel of the device is amazing and I’m impressed by the sound quality. The main negatives, IMO, are the dim screen and no TB3 as that means no EGPU. My main uses are Unity dev and other software dev. I actually don’t game so I cannot speak there. Overall, I recommend the device.
So I bought this laptop 2 weeks ago from BestBuy in Chicago, and I'll go ahead and input my experience, so far, with this, trying to reflect what these reviews say (you may see my comment on other videos, like Jarrod'sTech). I bought the 1080p 120Hz version with RTX 2060 Max-Q for $1,449.99. Everything this review is saying is 100% true: the magnesium chassis feels amazing, it's not heavy but heavy enough to feel strong and sleek. It's lightweight enough to take to school in a backpack. Typing on the keyboard feels fantastic. The trackpad feels the same as my MacBook Pro 13" (2015). The keyboard lighting on my keyboard is well-lit throughout the entire keyboard. Reviews mentioned how it's spotty and not thoroughly distributed, but mine are. They're not as intensely bright, but that's ok with me. I've played World of Warcraft (both classic and retail) and both run smooth as heck. Temps < 75C. FPS > 120. I've played BF1 on Ultra settings and runs smooth as butter. Temps ~ 79C. FPS ~ 100-110. I'll soon try Cyberpunk 2077. Since I can type out all the amazing things about the laptop, it's easier to point out what I dislike (assume everything I didn't mention to be 10/10 in my opinion). Cons: - The fingerprint scanner on the power button doesn't always work, and I think it's because of my oily fingers. My fingers have to be completely 100% try for it to work 100% of the time. - There are only 2 USBs on the right side, which is not a huge deal but I wish a third was included on the left hand side. - When the screen is down, there is no battery charging indicator visible. The battery charging light indicator is on the top of the keyboard, so you'd have to open the screen up to view that light indicator. That's it. Such minute cons make this laptop such a fantastic machine. Everything inside is so powerful, it's insane. If anyone has a specific question, feel free to message me!
I definitely didn't expect those gaming benchmarks. I guess when you place thermal and power limitations on the CPU (ie, when it's in a laptop) the efficiency of the Zen2 architecture really shines
I had a 2012 ASUS ROG laptop from 2013 until 2017 and it was one of the best laptops I have used; the only issue was that it was so large, heavy, and clunky. I'm super excited for this laptop because of how thin and light it is with even more power than the HP Omen I got to replace my ROG. And I love the white lid combined with the silver and grey on the rest of it.
I really appreciate the idea of a laptop that can function for 10 hours when you don't have that load on it, yet it can handle the load like a champ when needed to. this was always my issue with Gaming laptops no matter how cool they were they would last a couple of hours maybe 4 if lucky. this laptop is amazing, and all thanks goes to AMD for their awesome cpu and Asus that showed us how cool they are. hope this trend goes fast and popular to all manufacturers.
I've been an AMD fanboy for years. So glad to see them do well in this space. Just too bad they weren't out when I bought my new laptop in December last year
@@andrescarrasco1248 lol I got a Asus TUF gaming laptop w a Ryzen 5 3550H like a month ago (which I love actually) but I'm tempted on selling it to get this bad boy. That new Ryzen CPU is insane and its not even the "H" version
Why is that a deal breaker? You need more than 16-24 GB of RAM on your laptop? You need faster RAM? How much porn you watching on one screen bro? lol If gaming, do it on your desktop to do it right
Thank you for this review. I have always watched this channel and I have been so back and forth on what laptop to get since I have needed one recently. I picked this exact model up (1tb m2, rtx2060 max q) for 1190 on sale. I could not be happier, this thing is a beast!
With the kind of performance this thing offers it’s actually amazing to me that they don’t also offer 32 GB of RAM... I mean it’s legitimately more or less a mobile workstation
Wow. This looks great. I've been looking for a new laptop and this checks all my boxes. I wish it did have a webcam given that work from home due to quarantine might become a way of life now but it's not a deal breaker for me at the moment. Great job AMD and Asus! I think I'm in. I'll wait for some production model reviews first though.
Great review! I agree the placement of the Type A USB ports is not great for external mouse users, but a 90 degree USB extension should take care of that issue. The lack of webcam doesn't seem like a dealbreaker, especially since most laptops come with crappy 720p cameras. A decent 1080p webcam is less than $50.
"$1,500 as of now but that can change in our current situation" When the dust clears and everyone is buried in debt and Jobless , they will sell for $59.99.
I bought the MSI Prestige 15 five months ago and was very happy with the performance. But this thing, damn. It's making me salivate. Granted they do target slightly different audiences, and there are compromises the G14 makes that P15 doesn't (e.g. RAM, screen, webcam, TB3), but the huge performance delta is so difficult for any other aspects of the overall package to make up for. I will certainly be looking forward to future studio-oriented laptops equipped with Ryzen. Intel's going to have a very difficult decade ahead of them.
Just bought a used 8th-gen Intel-based system because battery life and price were solid, but wow. Looks like I can basically have it all with the latest AMD mobile chips. I'm super tempted to switch to this G14, especially when I can get all that portability and battery life PLUS an strong gaming system in one. Way to go, AMD. Thanks for making the market competitive again.
What a great chip. Excited for those who will get it. But it does come with a hefty price tag. Once this releases I recommend looking at the 9880H laptops. As they will be "last gen" at the point you can start buying these, and will probably get a discount once intel counters with its 10th gen mobile 8 core offerings. Mine gets 4200 in cinebench r20 with some simple tweaking, and I've been rocking it for about half a year now.
Some things it doesn't have that I insist on: 1. all the RAM has to be replaceable, not this one soldered and one replaceable. I keep laptops long enough that the DIMMs die at least once or twice. 2. needs a user replaceable battery (no I don't mean doing major work on the laptop, removing 20 screws and voiding the warantee kind of battery replacement)
Wait what! I thought the soldered ram was 16 gb. I was really hoping to add a second 16gb stick. Isn’t 24 gb weird? Could you add a 32gb stick for 40 total? I thought having mis-matched ram was super inefficient.
Actually no, having the same frequency is more important. If you put a 16gb stick with the 8gb on board memory (24 total), you will still have dual channel : 16gb will be on dual channel, and 8gb on single, a hybrid mode. But that's alright, your system will prioritize the fastest and the difference with a dual channel is insignificant. If you add a 32gb, you will have 32gb as dual and 8gb as single. So 40gb is ok too.
@@LeBlafy thank you, that's what I thought but wasn't sure. Might have to look into buying a 32gb stick as I wanna use this computer for after effects and premiere.
This laptop's specs, battery, and size, Razer's chassis, and Dell XPS's 16:10 screen. Throw in Thunderbolt and a webcam and it would be my dream machine. I'm going to wait as long as I can for 2021 to see if we get something like that.
I'm looking for something to upgrade from my ancient Haswell laptop and I've been waiting for the new Zen mobile CPU's. I've gotta' say, even with the limitations due to thermals it's pretty tempting at the price. I really wish it had an SD slot, as I'd be using it for content creation on the go. But I get it... not a lot of room. Certainly on my shortlist right now. I'll have to decide if a larger model will be worth it. The added 10-key would be nice in a larger model as well.
What happened between 10:10 and 10:30?? At 10:14, you plugged in the white cable of the white mouse, but at 10:17, the video shows a black cable connected to one port, a SilverStone device in the other port, and the end of the white mouse cable is out of view, although the white mouse and part of its cable are visible, but you made your point. Since there is no port on the left side of the laptop, plugging in a thumb drive on the right could become a slight obstruction when moving the mouse.
Yeah dude also I'm waiting for this laptop to hit Malaysian market. I'll probably buy the 15'' version. I might assume the price according to the latest currency exchange, RM6000+ for this version. If it's less than RM7000 I might buy it cuz my max budget for a gaming laptop is RM6000.
If the gaming counterpart already have that good of battery life, imagine having an ultra notebook with double the amount of that battery life... I just creamed my pants. About time to upgrade my thinkpad carbon
Great review. I like the way you talk to camera, ie the viewers. No script or editing. You re doing better than Dave2D. Much more technical and data. Thanks.
@METhOdhowtoKilLnoObS I agree, I love what AMD is doing, but make no mistake, none of these companies are altruistic. If Intel keeps stumbling, expect the same price gouging from team red sooner than we can expect. Ironically, if you love AMD's price/performance ratio... you better start rooting for Intel to get it's act together.
@@melmagallon6233 They will, eventually, but for now I'd rather have AMD dominate every sector. Don't forget how massive Intel is, the only reason AMD managed to catch up is because on top of having developed an amazing architecture, Intel has been stuck refreshing Skylake for way too many years, but if Intel wereat 10nm with a new architecture, Ryzen 1000 would have really struggled, and even Zen2 would struggle if it were competing against 7nm Intel CPUs. If Intel catches up too soon and blows AMD out of the water, AMD will struggle to remain competitive, I'd rather Intel strike back once AMD has managed to secure a more stable position as a serious competitor, like having a 50% market share or higher on desktop, and a high market share on other sectors like servers and notebooks as well, at least 40% but ideally 50%. Right now AMD is destroying Intel in terms of offerings, but in economical terms, they're far from even catching up, let alone surpassing them.
This is pretty much on the top of my list, I've been looking for a fairly thin and light gaming laptop for a while now and this fits the bill perfectly for me, though i'll be going for the model with the 4600HS and the 1650ti personally since it is right on the edge of my budget (but for what i play that'll be plenty)
I’ve been looking for a light-ish gaming laptop for about 2 months now with the requirement that it has 16gb ram, weighs under 5 lbs, has as sleek of a design as possible, and is no more than $1500. This hasn’t come across my radar today because im only familiar with intel processors and havent even considered amd. Definitely am now for this spec sheet with a price
Nice review, I m looking to purchase a 15" laptop specially for photos and videos editing. I was first focused on i7 based laptops but by discovering this Pearl from AMD, i ll go definitely for an AMD Monster. Thanks 😉
At 14:27 you mention if you are a Adobe Premiere user to stay away from this laptop but there is a simple fix for this issue. You just install the free open source Voukoder plugin for Adobe Premiere which gives you hardware acceleration encoding by using the NVENC encoder for NVIDIA GTX graphics cards.

I’m thinking about getting this . It’s on sale right now too so it’s a good time to get it. I’ve heard reviews about how the 120 Hz screen has a slight delayed response time. Is that any issue fo you?

sure but theyll have to sacfifice 40 gbit conection. Content creators love that stuff and its crazy popular and standard in content creator laptops. I myself love what AMD is doing and I still wouldnt consider it just bc of that. some people really rely on that. Id say that when you pay almos 2k ( which would be probablyy paid by enthusiasts and people that use tb3) for a laptop and you dont have the best the market can offer just sucks even tho its not amds fault.
I late last year got a HP 14s Notebook with a Ryzen 5 APU (3500U, VEGA 8 Graphics) that, for $350, is an eye opener. Fantastic value, coming from HP.
@Nathaniel Walker well, new ryzen kick intel in that area. Better battery life
14:33 Except for the fact that it's significantly faster at literally every other task in Premiere. Unless you are using the machine as a dedicated export/render box, this is very much the wrong take. The Turing NVENC encoder on the RTX 2060 can be used instead of Quick Sync in many places as well. Also, the quality hit with Quick Sync is the highest.

In my opinion this is AMD's next step in dominating the CPU market in terms of mobile chips like how they did in desktop chips.
Fernando Cárdenas intel sells like 5 times the number of CPUs as AMD. Saying that laptops are Intel’s “last true bastion” is kinda not true.

The Surface Book line of laptops are such beautiful machines imo. Waiting for the surface book 3.
There is also a 1440p display option that has better color accuracy, at least on paper.
There will be plenty of other manufacturers making the switch. The price is just insane.
depending on the content creation I wouldn necessarily go with one of thewese G14.

I just bought this. Loving it so far
How was it? Planning if this or g15?
@@HammieSiochi I bought mine a week ago from Best Buy as it was on sale. I am coming from a Lenovo X1E Gen 1 and I’m loving the ASUS so far. It runs cooler than my X1E but the gpu fans can ramp a bit under load. The portability and feel of the device is amazing and I’m impressed by the sound quality. The main negatives, IMO, are the dim screen and no TB3 as that means no EGPU. My main uses are Unity dev and other software dev. I actually don’t game so I cannot speak there. Overall, I recommend the device.
AMD: Ryzen 4xxx
Intel:
Payment to assemblers for no use AMD
Cons:
- The fingerprint scanner on the power button doesn't always work, and I think it's because of my oily fingers.
I’m also considering to get this laptop and was wondering if it could handle Valorant from low to medium settings

Oh my god AMD!

@@mudargamer okay!
What do you mean?

Some things it doesn't have that I insist on:
1. all the RAM has to be replaceable, not this one soldered and one replaceable.

Mel Magallon that’s if Intel learns to get past 14nm. They need better density to excel beyond where they stand.
