    A lot of people don't understand that the thin-and-light gaming laptop segment of audience are different than those who are seeking for pure performance.
    They're well aware that there can only be so much wattage for the GPU in that chassis, and they're well aware that the biggest chunk of what they paid here are portability while still being so capable. Comparing thin and light gaming laptops with pure performance gaming laptop will never be fair & can never be called a scam.

      Thanks, yes!! The only thing where I get the remarks for, is that the g14 was always a pure gaming machine, but pretty light for its class . They had the flow x13 for the thinner / lighter class. So this 2024 version makes the g14 a more expensive thin and light (but an awesome one!). For everyone waiting for a refresh of their beloved gaming series, it's a negative.
      I couldn't be happier with this design though.

Which makes it by far the most affordable laptop with a good GPU. On the downside, it is a heavy beast and the battery-efficiency is nothing compared to a Macbook (4 hours of max usage). I believe you guys mentioned in the video that the screen is updating 960 times every second, when it's actually 480, since the refresh rate is 120Hz. It's the Asus Rog Zephyrus G16 with its 240Hz display that technically updates 960 times every second.

    • @Hathos9
      @Hathos9 9 месяцев назад +13

      Asus' documentation, stream, and Notebookcheck's measurements say 960hz. It was only the one dude in the LTT video that said 480hz. That said, I can't say which is right.

    • @jorismak
      @jorismak 9 месяцев назад +14

      The brightness calibration is 960hz. That's the PWM that's detected by notebookcheck and others. It basically means every oled pixel is 're-pulsing' at 960hz. Note that this is completely unrelated to 'screen refresh '.
      Dropping brightness also drops the PWM by the way, so this 960hz is only true at 60% brightness or more. You get a popup when lowering it below that.
      Armoury Crate also has a 'software brightness ' slider, when you can limit the brightness while keeping the panel at full brightness / refresh.

      I bought through a reputable boutique in the US and I had them repaste it. That way my laptop and screen has been tested for function. I've had zero issues with it (well the Asus keycaps are absolute instant scratch off shit. I took too long calling Asus to get a replacement keyboard.) Considering when I did this it was really impressive that I basically got normal price and service from a small operation, during pandemic pandemonium. Although to my way of thinking, the 1660 Ti probably counted as $300 of the price, but that was still up to $100 less than others were paying for that level of performance whether in or out of a laptop.

      Have you tried partnering with another repair place who can service them faster or may be able to ship or turn them over better, even if it's paid ala carte? There was a time I was one of two Apple repair people in the whole state I live in (in the 2010s) which is as large as Germany and I used to be expected to beat the genius bar or any shop that mailed stuff to a central hub because a lot of Apple branded repair places would just drive them over to us. We did PCs too obviously. We'd repair them quickly enough and had an official parts supply chain that the other shop could get them back and circumvent their own hubs/mail outs. I used to know so many model specific fixes for Toshibas, Asus and HP because they let us at least try to escalate which led to us being able to always escalate.
      It might never actually be cheaper than just writing them off honestly cause you'd either being paying out of pocket for this or passing that expense on to the client, but it can be done, it is done every day all over the world even internationally. and it just makes you look really competent and tuned into the consumer electronics beat.

Can do practically anything that you can throw at it however there are two issues that I have with it so far. First is the WIFI card, going between accesspoints REALLY SUCKS. Sometimes I have needed to reboot for it to connect to wifi around campus. Second is the battery life, It is great and will get you through a days worth of note taking and normal web browsing but if you want to do anything more demanding then that, dont expect it to last a little bit further than a hour. Hope this helps anyone that wants to purchase this laptop in the future!

      @MojeidaNeMoje421 its a high performance laptop. If you want good temperatures buy a desktop. Mine has the Ryzen 9 and when pushing it the temps go to 90-92 but never above it. Thats the max. While heavy gaming it stays at around 85 at the cpu, 80 at the gpu.
      I have custom fan curves and changed them to have less noise. I can push the fans more and have better temps. However, 80-90C on a powerful gaming laptop this thin is actually amazing. It never overheats, never thermal throttles.
      While doing light office tasks in balanced mode the cpu hovers around 50C and its very quiet. On battery the fans almost never turn on.

      Yes, AMD needs to have a way to allow more RAM for the dGPU. With Macs now having unified memory and 36GB of RAM on the M3 Pro (similar pricing), nearly all that RAM can be utilised for GPU-intensive workflows. People complain about the base MB Air's 8GB of RAM, yet this issue of the 4070 having only 8GB is far more relevant as it is in a machine targeted for GPU-intensive workflows.

    I have the 2021 G14, and the soldered memory on this new one is a big negative (as well as the cap at a 4070). I upgraded the RAM on mine recently from 16 to 40GB. Heck, also I love the fact that mine DOESN'T have a webcam, putting it on the newer ones is kinda lame. I'd rather have smaller bezels. Also that proprietary power adapter...but why? Is this something that's going to be a constant over time, or just dropped and changed in the next iteration? What's wrong with a standard barrel-pin plug?

It has been sent back and forth to Asus but they haven´t solved the problem. I´ve been in forums, testing tweaks, drivers, apps and registries but nothing has fixed it. 3.0000 USD flushed down the toilet. So don´t do the same mistake as me.

    A word about the Mediatek vs Intel Wifi drivers:
    AX210/211 cards from Intel don't support Wifi 6 AX hotspots due to the regional lock implemented globally, even if you're using allowed channels on your country. The Mediatek ones are not hard locked behind a closed implementation that can only be removed through Intel's signed firmware. That matters a lot if you're looking to use something like a Meta quest and don't own an 6e/7 router, it's not close to the pc, or are in another house. Kind of a d move from Intel.
