    We’ve had our 4xe for about 8 months now and with my wife’s 10 mile round trip commute and charging at home on level 1, we went over 1,200 miles before topping off the tank and still had 1/4 tank of gas. We finally topped it off because the refresh gas/oil mode kept kicking in. So as a daily driver with a short commute, it’s basically an electric car.

    So spot on. My 4xe Rubicon is on order, but we bought a Pacifica Hybrid in Jan. Our first tank of gas was with the level 1 charger and we got about 750 miles on the first tank of gas. We had the level 2 installed and went about 1350 miles on the second tank! Third tank now the weather has warmed up (cold temps reduce your battery life in the Pacifica Hybrid) and she is over 1500 miles with over a 1/4 of a tank still left! Amazing. Should make it to 1700 miles. Because so many of our trips are 25 miles or less round trip we are able to charge in between. With the level 2 that means about 70% charge in an hour or full charge in about 1 hour 40 minutes.
    This is the benefit of EV. If you don’t plan on charging much, or drives lots of longer trips, the 4xe may not be the right Jeep.

    I own an Sahara 4xe for 6months now and I commute daily 70miles exact from my driveway to my work parking spot "one way" in California, from central valley to the bay area. Full charge gave me 28 miles range. Full tank of gas at 389 miles tops by far. I'm going over 3 hills driving anywhere from 73-80 mph. Once i get to my destination, it took 1 gas bar if you look at your gauge. This only happens if you fill up a full tank. Other then that, it's almost a quarter tank one way trip for me. Long commute not worth it especially if you drive over 65mph. You get more miles depending on your driving conditions and keep it under 65mph and if your driving less then 13-15 or so miles one way. That way you save more on gas and set on electric mode if possible. Tire pressure plays a role also and weight of the vehicle. Hope this helps. Jeep could of gave us 80 miles range on charge would be nice.

    Plug-in hybrids excel at commuting to work during the weekdays with overnight charges. Plug-in hybrids generally do worse when you're travelling long distances (interstate driving) because regardless of the vehicle, the milage will ultimately depend on the fuel efficiency of the gas engine. So if your driving pattern is mostly daily commutes to work nearby, then a plug-in hybrid is a good fit. However, if you travel long distances frequently and you insist on lowering your use of fossil fuels then diesel is the better choice.
    In most cases if the goal is to save money over the time you own the vehicle, you may be better off getting a standard powertrain available since at least with today's fuel prices you won't recoup the upfront costs of diesel or plug-in hybrids.
    That said, you may have other reasons to choose diesel or PEV and pay the extra costs. If you need the extended range and torque for overlanding and won't be able to charge regularly while away then diesel may be worth the extra money. If you want the ability to traverse a trail in almost complete silence with more torque than available on gasoline-only vehicles or your daily commute is around 20 miles or so and you like the convenience of not having to purchase fuel as often then the plug-in hybrid may be the right choice for you.

    Thank you for this very insightful video. The answer to the question that I can't seem to find is: what approximate distance, using gas and electric combined (on a single charge), might I be able to travel? In other words, what distance in miles might I be able to expect to be getting that ~49mpg before I deplete the battery and it reverts to the all-gas mode? Everything seems to default back to, "well here's what it can do on all electric..." or "here's what it can do using just gas..." However, I'd like to know how far I can travel getting that ~49mpg if I, say, jump on the highway for a long road trip. Has anyone seen a demo? Would welcome the link to that. Sincere thanks!

    • @Michael-li3id
      @Michael-li3id 2 года назад +1

      Here's the best answer I got.
      The 49mpge range measures how far you can go on 1 full charge + 1 gallon of gas. This does not get 49mpg 24/7.
      25 miles on all electric.
      17.2 gallon tank that gets 21 mpg = additional 346 miles assuming you ran it down to almost empty and used 16.5 gallons out of that 17.2
      Additionally, during that journey, the gas engine will charge the battery through regen and allow you to drive an additional 25 miles of battery only.
      25 + 346 + 25 = 396 miles with a full charge leaving the house and using 16.5 gallons of fuel = approx 24 mpg plus the $1.50 in electrical costs to initially charge the battery.
      This doesn't shine on long highway trips. It shines on

    This is a pure cheating. Because the hybrid system simply doesn’t work if the battery is discharged. My avalon was not plugin and was regular hybrid. I was getting 40-45mi/gallon. This jeep simply shuts off the hybrid system once the battery goes -1%. There is basically no difference between e-save mode and hybrid once the battery is down. Also despite I set e-save mode to battery charging it does nothing to charge it. On a discharged battery, in “hybrid” mode the jeep is giving 15mi/gallon in city (like fort lee, without any traffic) and 20mi on highway. It’s brand nee and I have only 153mi on it. I will update a week later. I will travel to DC from NY this weekend and will see the consumption.
